- "Crazy Rich Asians" follows native New Yorker Rachel Chu as she accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young, to his best friend's wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick's family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country's wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick's arm puts a target on Rachel's back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick's own disapproving mother taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can't buy love, it can definitely complicate things. Constance Wu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding swing by BUILD to discuss the film.

A Hollywood Movie with an all-asian cast with no martial arts or stereotypes but just asians being bougie and rude and the epitome of style and class. i have waited my whole life for this! Y’all better not let this movie flop.
Tons of stereotypes in that movie and it was hilarious.
Chris Pontello right??? 😂 unfortunately it hit too many stereotypes actually
Newsflash: *It was no flop.* It's a great movie.
No stereotypes?!?
And no dry cleaner owner.
I am a Black woman who simply LOVED this film. I did a two day rental and then posted wildly about it on social media. Most of my friends agreed that it was just fantastic. I had to buy it because it belongs in my collection. The cinematography was great, loved the architecture, could actually smell the food - and the acting, superb. I get the representation issue - and am so happy for those leaving the theatres crying. I absolutely love this film. More, please!!
I felt the same way!!!
It actually ,add me emotional which not a lot of movies do
Absolutely amazing
Totally agree. And I want more. My husband and I watch it all the time. It does not get old.
Yesss one of Movies.Peace
Michelle Yeoh saying "Legend coming thru" is all I needed today
love how low key Michelle yeoh was humble bragging abt her credentials hehe. she's like the Asian Meryl streep!
(edit/i meant this in a positive way though. I love both actresses!)
Got to agree with you there! I cringed when she rattled off names of the films that supposedly made her a "legend". Michelle Yeoh (like Meryl Streep) is ridiculously overrated!
@@cottagerose she had acted as a bond girl before??? What more do you want from her???
Asian Meryl Streep?!!! Really???
Meryl Streep is the white Michelle Yeoh.
@@SuperSaverPlays I want to like this comments as much as I can
Awkwafina is a treasure
Super like her !!
Awk ward fina ?
Yeah right? I LOVE her.
@@dudedude869 woah woah woah
She is hilarious n cute! 😂
I could listen to Michelle Yeoh talk forever. What a talented, inspiring, incredible LEGEND! I love this movie and I love this cast. YES to the representation!
Cynthia Chan she is Asian she unattractive
@@tigercat418 you are White and boring
So true! The whole cast is just awesome!
:Great Cast! Great Movie!
Except for constance wu. Everybody hated her. She thinks shes better than everyone:

Michelle is iconic- wonderful life! Constance is very elegant ! Henry is very good at interviews. Love Ken, he's brilliant. Awkwafina has the best voice haha...
That’s exactly how I felt about this interview.😁
all their superpowers haha
@@look2012 the avengers of Asia lol
Shady bitch 😂
Best comment ! 😂❤️
I’m here for Akwafina and Ken. Can’t have enough of these two together
They are so funny, love them
Michelle is so down to earth, she's only the biggest international female Asian actress since... Michelle Yeoh. Sure there are other superstars like Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi, etc. but Michelle is the only one who's fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
Malaysian represent! Proud that Michelle is making Malaysians proud!
and she is the boss.
And I’m sure she is totally fluent in Bahasa Malaysia😶😆😉
Michelle Yeoh is a true Legend!! She is so polished and wise... and she can speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Singlish, Manglish, and many other language... such an inspiration....
@@vietnam891 who's gong li?
Michelle Yeoh just straight dropping knowledge yo! She's one of the few very in touch with both Eastern and Western culture and innuendos. Excellent casting of her!
Henry is such a leading man he’s gonna blow up I can’t wait
I thought he was one of the weakest actors in the film. Just kind of blah, and predictable acting. The actor who played Astird's husband was brilliant however!
The Provincial Gentry you thought wrong 🤷🏻♂️
@@JohnnyYCWang Really? It was a generic performance and having a mixed race actor play this specific role broke the immersion.
Johnny Wang yugguooiiuytre u. Yyipig
The Provincial Gentry have
I feel like the host was either new or starstruck, because that was a pretty awkward interview...thank goodness the legends have so much depth to their answers (like who doesn’t want to grab coffee and pick Michelle Yeoh’s brain??) also awkwafina hilarious!! Cheers to these wonderful pioneers in the movie industry :)
stardust54 It was really bad. She only hosted cuz she’s Asian too. They should’ve gotten someone else.
only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only only
stardust54 yes, the interviewer was terrible.
@@emotfarley and you think it's enough to just say that without exposing your reasons... like you would do better...you might even not be able to sit there in front of an audience without being overstressed.🙄🙄🙄
Lets all learn to be positive...she did her best...she will improve with time!!!
LEGEND COMING!!! YAS MICHELLE!
With a diva attitude to boot... Never knew that about her.
Just Funny, but she is legend for action
She mentioned Crouching Tiger and Memoirs, but I love her from the good old martial arts movies. Those movies are what makes her a legend in my mind.
Ya, thought that super funny ! She's hilarious here:))
I swear Michelle does not age.
Is it just me or Constance's voice is so good to listen to like it's so comforting and friendly like the kind of friend that you can chat for a long time:)
YES!
michelle yeoh speaks so articulately... what a smart woman!
Michelle is a Queen. Love how Henry mentions P Ramlee. THE Legend.
They keep mentioning "Joy Luck Club" and "Legends" and they don't mention ONCE that one of the actresses that was in Joy Luck Club was *IN* the movie! Lisa Lu who plays Nick's grandmother was in JLC and was Auntie An Mei. She's in her 90s now, RESPECT!!
thanks for that info :-)
I mean, I love the fact that this film is furthering Asian representation in media but almost as much as that, I'm just excited to see a big budget romcom. I feel like we don't get as many of those making it onto the screen anymore.
Yes, and this looks like a really good one.
YESSSS 🙌🏽
we already have so many rom com tv series and korean drama and jdrama and spanish soaps, the market is flooded. There never was any big budget rom coms to begin with, most of them are shot under $30 million
rurutu M How many people actually watch those things? I'm Asian but even I don't watch that sort of thing. How many normal white people do you think watches them? They wouldn't watch something like that but they can watch something like this.
and especially seeing an Asian man as a love interest [only two I can think of was one episode of Charmed (1998) with John Cho and Hayden Szeto in Edge of Seventeen (2016)].
And seeing a strong, smart Asian female LEAD not fall for some big, buff, Caucasian male savior.
This movie was amazing.
Henry's soothing masculine voice 😍
Awkwafina's sense of humor. 😂
Michelle Yeoh was my hero growing up. Her powerful characters were so great which made me love my Asian heritage more. And I like what she said that Asian mothers are the most strict of all mothers out there, but they are also the most caring and protective. So kudos to the cast.
The interviewer was very monotonous and didn't seem either comfortable or experienced.
I would gladly pay good money to see a spinoff movie about the Goh family (Ken and Akwardfina are hilarious).
And Michelle Yeoh is an utter queen.
The Gohs should be getting more screen time in the sequel
Yesss spin-off!!
+1 for Goh Family Hahahaha
Absolutely!!
Ken & awkwafina have such amazing chemistry. Love it
Henry Golding a candidate for James Bond 007.... just breaking the barrier here.
That Henry is the Asian George Clooney😍
I’m soooooo glad Michelle brought out about not being Chinese enough aka banana.White flesh but yellow skin on the outside. As Chinese Malaysian who grew up in KL, some older generations tend of tell me that I’m not Asian enough despite the fact I’m living in Asia most of my life. Anyhow, I’m excited that 2 Malaysians represent in Hollywood!
I get called coconut . Meh. Malaysia represent! ;)
Add Ronnie. He too is Malaysian.
🇲🇾🇲🇾
Me too!!!!
She was terrible!
Henry mentioned P Ramlee's name as Malaysia's most versatile artiste. 👏👏👏❤️
my only remark is on how gracious and generous the cast is with the host. they know very well how hard it is to be new and still learning the ropes (which i imagine is a sailing expression)
I appreciate this, too! Everyone was once a newbie in any industry!
Kryptonite yes, but I think Constance was starting to get frustrated judging from her body language.
Michelle Yeoh...Brava Diva. A true legend and pioneer.
Michelle wardrobe is so freaking HIP!!!
I know to dress up like her when I reach that age
chinita 67 Totally! Been meaning to get shoes like that.
Love her Stella mccartney shoes!
When Constance says "We don't have the luxury to fail" - that really rings true
The real crazy rich Asians among 5 people, is Michelle (followed by Ken). Love Michelle's acting n she speaks 4 languages - epically talented! ❤️ From Singapore 🇸🇬
I would pay to see any movie with the legend Michelle Yeoh in it. Everybody else in the cast is a bonus.
I've always love Michelle yeoh... I remembered when i watch Guardians of the Galaxy 2, I'm freaking shout in cinema as I can't believe she had a little cameo.. i wish she got more role coz i freaking love her..
lowstreamixx i remember that. People were excited about Slyvester Stallone appearing but I was like MICHELLE YEOH!
What role did she play?
Loved that Henry Golding name dropped P. Ramlee!!!
Michelle Yeoh is a true Legend!! She is so polished and wise... and she can speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Singlish, Manglish, and many other language... such an inspiration....
Ken Jeong and Awkwafina... I love them both so...
Michelle Yeoh is so cute omg 😂😍
I can't stop looking at Constance hair - so beautiful.
And Henry reminds of me Chow Yun Fat.
Oh my god I DIED when Michelle talked about moms talking about your weight or tan like that’s literally spot on
I cried when Nick proposed to you on the plane, it was absolutely touching.
Michelle Yeoh is a legend yet so down to earth. Awkwafina is naturally hilarious though. Henry is as Charming as usual
i want this movie to do well so bad
Just like the blacks were thrilled with the huge success of that action movie released a few months ago.
"the blacks" lol what
How about: "Just like African Americans were thrilled with the huge success of Black Panther, released a few months ago." Come on, "the blacks"??
@@mikayocc but blacks had their successful movies since ever.
I saw the movie a couple weeks ago and cried so much at the end because I've never experienced representation like this in my lifetime. I remember watching Joy Luck Club with my mom on the VCR as a kid, and I can't wait to watch this again with her in theaters!!
This is the best cast ever. Very genuine.
I wish Ken talked about his experience growing up Asian in a majority non-Asian country as well.
whenever Henry talks, I just become the heart-eyes emoji
Hearing Henry and his wife had a durian wedding cake makes me so jealous (wish I'd had the guts to do that to my guests!) and just made me fall in love with them! I absolutely love durian and thank goodness my husband does too. Even my dog loves it.
For some reason, I love candied durian but not fresh.
Taste better cooked like in a,cake than eating raw
I saw the movie tonight. Loved it! I’m Caucasian (shouldn’t matter) and what I saw tonight was a fun, romantic, funny movie with wonderful characters. There was music in Chinese - didn’t care (in fact enjoyed it ). The were occasional subtitles - didn't care. The movie was an all Asian cast - didn’t care. What I did care about was that the movie I was watching had a great story, something that touched the heart, great film making, characters I could indentffy with cause who can’t identify with love, family, and being an outsider at some point in their lives? I’m very happy that the movie is doing well ‘cause maybe that’s a sign others don’t care either.
Omg...I just MELT every time Henry Golding speaks! (THAT ACCENT!!!). 😍. Can’t wait to see the movie!
I can't thank you enough for this, what a wonderful piece of art 🥰🙌🏾
Can’t wait to see it :)
I just love the cultural interplay and nuance between these amazing actors.
Michelle Yeoh is utterly hilarious. I didn't see that coming. hahaha
This was such a fun interview to watch. The cast is amazing.
I enjoyed this very much. Interviewer asked some brilliant questions. Great job!
When I saw this movie, I thought it would have once again martial arts and fights, but to my surprise this movie it's now one of my FAVORITES! Excellent job guys! All the cast was awesome! Congratulations!
I loved this movie so much, my husband who doesnt really care for movies actually fell in love with this movie! He said "Babe! bring more movies like these around!" We're so excited if it gets a sequel :D
Love it! Michele is such a delight.
Highly recommend watching this movie!! I despise weddings but that HAS to be the most BEAUTIFUL wedding I’ve ever seen.
Although, I am sad that it's been a long time coming. As a person of color... I can't express how happy I am to see this movie happen. I want to challenge us, as humans, to continue to bring about many more opportunities for such diverse, beautiful, & interesting cultures all over the world. Good Luck to you all!!!
just saw the film and i'm soooooo happy it was actually so GOOOD
Funny, I just saw the movie and I fell asleep within first 10 minutes, woke up midway through then basically fast-fowarded through most of it. As brutally mediocre a production as anything else Hollywood is capable of.
Excited for this movie. TAKE MY MONEY NOW!!!
I already loved Asians, but this movie made me appreciate them even more. That's why it's so important to have representation in Hollywood
Anxiously waiting for the movie......... hopefully it hits BIG and goes on ......
Michelle Yeoh is so correct on so many ways about the Asian families especially about the words like "I Love You" phrase, that is so true!
This is one of the BEST RomCom I’ve ever seen...and I’m not even Asian!
Visually stunning production, awesome actors, great story Etc etc! Well done you guys 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for breaking the stereotypes around Asian films. This was one of the best films I have ever watched. Looking forward to the sequel.
The host was either new or incredibly nervous..can't blame her. I'd be nervous too
I read the book before seeing the movie and was excited to see who was chosen to play what character. To truly represent the book I see now would've turned into a 5 hour movie, but the movie was very well done in my opinion and I hope we see more. On another level, as a Black woman in America, it is so refreshing to hear the perspective of other persons of color about being under-represented. I feel like there will be new synergies between cultures/nationalities as a result of this film because of basic, real knowledge and understanding of other people's perspectives and experienced. Thank you for helping to remove IGNORANCE of Asian culture and provide truth and knowledge. I personally want to know more. My fav actor is Michelle Yeoh because yep, she's a legend! But what a fantastic job all the cast did, and it's nice to see who is following in her and other Asian actor legends footsteps. Kudos!
Yes ! Amazing film. Crazy rich Asians 2 must be in the works. Please
cant wait for part 2!
Awkwafina is everything!!!! And Ken is I swear the most hilarious person ever!! Such an amazing cast!!!
Constance Wu is so pretty
She's hot as hell 😍😍😍
This is a movie you can watch over and over. Loved it!
I had reservations about watching the movie but omg I loved it 😍 can't wait for the sequel im hooked!
From the Joy Luck Club in 1993 to this... Crazy Rich Asians in 2018. A leap like that can give anyone a hernia. Let's keep it going so we don't have to wait another 25 years. Constance Wu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Michelle Yeoh, and Henry Golding, like Elvis, once said, I can't help but fall in love with you, you and you.
was the best movie I've seen in a long time! Loved the wedding scene OMG who didn't cry???
Lynne Erickson I cried because they ruined a wedding dress.
I absolutely LOVED this movie! 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you all for being such trailblazers
Michelle Yeoh!!!!Memoirs of a Geshia is one of my allllll time favorite movie!!!!
Michelle Yeoh is a Legend! Amazing actress
I loved the film and love this interview!
Love this movie cannot wait until the next one!
Michelle!!! She still rocks! 😄
Michelle Yeoh is like my new favorite actress. I saw her in memoirs of the geisha and I loved Mameha. And Eleanor Young was just a badass woman!
Love Michelle Yeoh the Legend~!! the whole crew is amazing~!!
I watch this movie 3 times in a row and I’m never gonna get sick of it 🤩🤩🤩 and the cast DAYUMMMMMN
"Legend coming, hello!!" I LOVE HER
That moment when you land in Malaysia 9:47... The drastic change in our accents
Liv Yam we too talented comfortably switching accents of the same language lol
Liv Yam I’m not from Singapore or Malaysia myself, but I have cousins who are- seems to me Michelle Yeoh nails it...!
OMG Michelle Yeoh's Malaysian accent - she's a high queen who is still deeply rooted! Hail queen! haha!
@@StoryMing She is Malaysian so I think she would.
Proud of this advancing progress and steps for Asians! 💛💛💛
Loved watching this
I love you awkwafina love from Manila
Man, they could've gotten a much much better interviewer for this.
I love the love story of nick and Rachel! so touched!
Legend coming🤩🤣🤣🤣🤣.was hilarious..she is really outstanding and wonderful female
I LOVE MICHELLE YEOH A loooott!!!! MY LEGEND
"Joy Luck Club" WAS depressing though...watching that as an Asian American girl, that movie taught me that I'd either marry a white guy who kinda gets the culture or be married to a semi-absuive asian man who loves money... and then the daily reminders of how critical asian moms can be...oh my
Yeah it's exciting to be able to watch a MODERN Asian/Asian American movie. Not period movies like Joy Luck Club, Memoirs of a Geisha, or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Yup, exactly. Asians are more than just martial arts masters. We actually have lives lol
Yeah it's good to have a lighthearted satire comedy with fun stuff, Joy Luck Club touched on deeper issues but like...I don't want to have an existential crisis just by watching a movie. We need different genres of media with Asian Americans !
movie was touching, REAL, and BEAUTIFUL. i cried, i laughed, i shook my head, cried some more. if you cant handle that never watch happy together or farewell my concubine.......
most Asian men aren't abusive though that in itself is a stereotype because my friends, my dad, my grandpa, many Asians husbands/fathers are loyal, hard-working, respectful, caring, liberal, open, loving to their Asian partners/wives/leading ladies
LEGEND COMIIIIIIIING
fantastic cast! still starstruck with michelle. I did grow up watching her films.
