‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Cast On The Film’s Impact On Representation In Hollywood | TODAY
Michelle Yeoh is class class class!!! I am SO glad she was introduced as the legend she is!!!
Yes she is . She was a Bond girl as well.
Yes! I love her. She's pure elegance. She's stunning. 💕
she is amazing!
Yes!! At first I thought they wouldn't. Respect!
I know Ms Yeoh has been around for a very long time but legend??? Really???
Michelle Yeoh was the perfect cast. She is brilliant in general but also in the movie.
she was great
"asian ellen "was my favorite line in the movie .
I laughed too loud in the cinema because of that line
Omg YAS
Yeeees
I forgot Ken played Constance’s brother in law on Fresh Off the Boat!
Johnny Wang Thank you! Glad I’m not the only one who realised...
Saw it yesterday when it premiered and absolutely loved it! A lot of humor, a lot of fun and a lot of heart. Such a great movie and I hope this is the beginning of a wave of Asian movies to come.
there are thousands of Asian movies that are much much more artistic than this crap. And they were made by authentic Asians.
Scott Wallace great movie.
Dswizzle90 Don't talk if you haven't seen true Asian classics. I don't have time for this trash. Enjoy it yourself, don't think others do. Especially those from Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Thai, Khmer, Indonesia etc. Chinese may like it because it is a Chinese oversea movie.
Yup, that shows your level of thinking. Someone doesn't like a movie, it's prejudice/racism. I was born and raised in Asia, although a US citizen, my cultural identity is still Asian and Asian knows Asian best: this movie is just a ostentatious show-off of oversea Chinese newly riches, putting up a scene for Americans. I don't know what "classics Asian movies" you have seen and how old you are, but here is a test: name one of the best movie written by Shinobu Hashimoto, directed by Kobayashi without looking up.
Trash talk as usual from a viet
So it seems that Michelle is a vet actress for the Asian community and I am glad that Hoda gave her the respect to introduce her as such b/c most of us non Asians probably would not have known that. Also she just spoke so well with deep fondness of the film. Now that's experience.
Sammy Ytube please watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and also she was James Bond Girl by the way.
@@meemeebrew3942 she's also an action star and stunt woman from movies like Police Story 3 (aka Jackie Chan's Supercop) : ) she is truly a legend
Sammy Ytube She's so classy ❤️
Oh...of course I remember Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon of decades ago. That was a beautiful movie and now I can actually see her face in it. Certainly worth watching again and how fantastic for the director to cast this vet actress in this ground breaking movie. Thanks for that info and will definitely look her up as a Bond girl.
She also plays the Emperor of the evil Terran Empire in the new Star Trek Discovery TV series.
Dang, Michelle Yeoh is pretty articulate
Yeah, it surprises me. I didn't even know that...i thought some of these actresses and actors from China speak terrible English with heavy accents and I was concerned about them every time I hear them talk. So i was surprise about her....I guess I didn't do my research about her...just making stereotypical assumptions.
@@reptilexcq2 she's not from China
Michelle is a Malaysian. From Ipoh, Malaysia. Not from China.
of course michelle yeoh is a malaysian chinese and malaysian english is like her mother tongue too. she hails from ipoh in the state of perak malaysia where the chinese presence is prevalent and was educated in the UK. so much stereotype here and that's why asians are hoping the movie will be a breakthrough and may represents this part of the world. 🦄
i cant even english as well as her and i onlyy know english lmao
I never cried so hard in a movie theater before it was embarrassing
Gurl, I cried 3 times during this movie in 3 specific moments: wedding scene, when Rachel confronted Eleanor during that table game and Nick's ending speech on the plane. Loved it!
Ivy Ngo Bahahaha I kinda hide it 😂😂😂
I cried when in the plan. The mahjong scene. So emotional thought
I am not a fan of movies like this , but as a black woman I am going to support another minority . Just like many did for black panther .
Thank you! As an Asian American, it's been so heartwarming to see solidarity from non-AsAm communities for this movie 🤗
Trust me you won't regret it. It's a great movie
60% of the world's population is Asian, so they are not a minority-- especially since majority of them have ties to their old countries still. I hate this new framing of making everything seem like diversity is new. There have been plenty of majority Asian films that are popular. I can't stand artificial hype. Just let it be a good movie. It's soft bigotry to support something for artificial reasons.
TheSpokenWizard what majority Asian films that are US market are popular?
Yeahhhh.. I'm so glad that people start to noticing us, asians and black people, whether makeup line, commercial, even movies. I'm happy for us.
I'm still shocked they got a mega star like Michelle Yeoh to star in the movie. Best decision! Love the cast ❤❤❤
me also still shocked...
how come michelle yeo star in that kind of trash movies...
pity to her...
michelle yeo is a legend stars..
she donts deserve to cast in that movie...
they using her...
I think Michelle invested in it also, and yep she 's a legend. Love all her martial arts movies
@@isodsanata2340 your mums a trash and you are born a recycled trash
I’m the crazy poor Asian 🤪
Ramz n Haha, same.
me three lol =)
Now that's will be a great movie
RamZ Me too I am a grandma very poor crazy Asian ! But I like the movie ! 😂😘
RamZ n 😂 I laugh at your comment🤭 me too, crazy poor Asian 😆
Proud that 2 malaysians are involved in the movie, Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding ( half malaysian ).
what about Ronny Chieng? Too Singaporean?
a half caucasian acting as a traditional east asian rich kid and you feel it is legit. are you serious?
g wei first it’s a movie and secondly, Henry was born in Betong, Sarawak and very much an asian.
only half malaysian Iban,Yeoh is chinese.
Addy Lepak yeah, forgotten. He is a johorean and a Malaysian too.
As an Asian American, having this movie is very great. I’m a teenager and there has been barely any Asian representation for me growing up.
It's been that way for all Asian-Americans for many years. During my college years the only Asian representation was the late Bruce Lee for only about 5 years
Yeah. I'm asian. And i always wanted to be white girl because they're so pretty. But now i know that i can be pretty too.
Natalie :D no
Meanwhile tons of white teenage girls were watching korean dramas and anime wishing they were cute Asian girls....how we only see one side of the fence is beyond me..
That's the truth about America, its some what multi racial but its hardly ever multi cultural. You don't get to learn other languages in class or celebrate holidays of other cultures. Not even Canada have that. The only country in the world that is both multi racial and multi cultural is Singapore where kids get to learn and use their mother tongue in school and they all celebrate holidays from different races cultures. The sad thing about Asian American is that many young kids have lost their cultural heritage and grew up totally westernized, which is why Asian American is basically just American.
I AM SOOOO HAPPY FOR ASIAN PEOPLE FINALLY A HOLLYWOOD MOVIE WITH ASIAN ACTORS AND ACTRESSES YAY :)
Our family saw it yesterday. We cried, laughed, and felt inspired. Please go see it, representation matters!!!
Came here for Michelle Yeoh!
Representation matters. I'm so excited 😍
its good!! GO WATCH IT!! XD
Not for Asian males apparently. You have to be half white with white dad to be good enough for "Asian male lead".
5% of the total US population. So should 5% of all Hollywood movies be Asian or should the cast always be at least 5% Asian?
@@lilwitchschierke2530 The male lead is a Hapa???
Brando Calrissian
I bet its not even 5% for neither movies or cast. You dont have a case.
Troy Richardson
Why are you surprised? Its typical western media conditioning method, Its not even a secret that "Pedowood" takes orders from the Pentagon about how to represent americans in war movies. Nothing says freedom like getting brainwash by a bunch pedophiles working for psychopaths.
Michelle looks so young. I can't wait to see the movie.
I'm a Chinese Canadian 🇨🇳🇨🇦 girl and yes I'm Asian and I would actually like to watch Crazy Rich Asians because it has a all Asian cast :)
I love the fact that Michelle Yeoh is the veteran in this.
Love Michelle Yeoh. Amazing Actress!!!! Classy and so Eloquent at the same time.
Very good movie.. 👍👍
I just watched it today...and I want to watch it again.
wonderful and very interesting looking movie with a wonderful cast.......yes Asian are asian and when they come they are always heroes....Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina and Ken Jeong .........very nice cast and very interesting story.......love you guys and good luck and we will make your luck very good by watching this movie....
Tahir Ahmed lmao asian arent just chinese tho where indian, pakistan ect..?
@Awesome Woman lmao did you just promote it😂😂😂
Ryan lex this movie is based on the book
What a BEAUTIFUL cast!! Constance is so beautiful and so everything.
I HAVE THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANNOT WAIT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!
This movie makes me prouder than ever to be Chinese
She is in a Qi Pao, gorgeous!
Daniel Hew Is this even necessary??
Constance is so beautiful simply cuz she’s asian lol , but really this movie is amazing 👍🏽👍🏽
Michelle Yeoh.... I am inlove with her.
Its about time, looking forward to see this movie. Love the youth 💜
Absolutely loved this movie. The wedding scene was BEAUTIFUL!! Every part of that scene was amazing. I was sitting there 😭 😭😭😭😭 the whole time 😂
I really want to see this move!! And finally, diversity in Hollywood cinema!!! 🙌💯💕
Aida Amore A+
As Malaysian, I’m so proud of Michelle and Henry achievements
I just adore it! It made experience all possible emotions: I was laughing, I was crying, it even made me think at times - fabulous story and great cast!
Michelle Yeoh has aged so well. I remember seeing her in the movie Wing Chun when she was like 21 and it blew me away. She's so talented and beautiful.
ok, now do a remake of the last airbender...
jay-ar de vega 😂
THIS!!!
Now I can't wait for Disney's live action Mulan! We will only need to wait 2 years for the next movie with an all-Asian cast and this time, it will have a crazy rich budget to back it up.
Now that they have proof an all Asian cast is profitable, they'll surely go the right way.
I really love Peik Lin so much! 🤣
Michelle Yeoh ...Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon one of the best foreign movies ever made. Yes LEGEND
I love it. Been following this project since the beginning of production and glad to see the reviews are positive.
Big show filmed in Singapore I'm proud
Fabulous! Asian Americans are finally getting recognition!
So happy for this movie to be made. Going to see it when I have some time.
Watched the movie last night and it was awesome! Loved the storyline!
love this
The guy in the red is very handsome
Anthony Martinez Henry Golding😉
He's a wonderful. Love his travel show. Have you seen it? www.rojakdaily.com/entertainment/article/3307/henry-golding-returns-to-his-iban-roots-in-discovery-channel-s-surviving-borneo
and he is Malaysian... so proud of him
michelle yeoh is a timeless beauty!
Beautifully created and fun.
Just saw the movie and Henry Golding definitely has the "it" factor. If Idris Elba doesn't, he should play the next Bond. He really is a natural star. Constance Wu on the other hand seemed slightly awkward in the first half of the movie.
Sophie W. i agree. Constance isn’t the most natural actress in my opinion but Henry is beyond charming and a very natural actor!
Henry Golding would make a great Bond!
Can’t see Constance as anything other than Eddie Huang’s mom 😆
@Anastasia Mendoan blackwash?
Well her character was in an awkward situation for the entirety of the movie so her being awkward isn’t odd at all.
Saw it yesterday, and I will see it again. LOVED IT!! I hope there's more to come👍💕
Michelle Yeoh is amazing :)
This is really a great interview! So much class from the Cast too!
I love it!!! So funny so entertaining with lessons in life.
*SO* excited to see this!😀
i would love to see part 2
A wonderful film and I can’t wait for the sequel! I’m already reading the books ❤️
Same suggestion I gave people at work was to eat good before you watch this movie. All the delicious food they show will make you drool.
Really well done interview! I’m glad they had a panel of cast members to keep the conversation flowing and avoid awkward silence. I LOVE that they touched on the idea that the movie is phenomenal because it’s a darn good movie first and foremost. Michelle was so right, the all-Asian cast wouldn’t have been so impactful had they not been great in their roles.
Singapore 🇸🇬 Malaysia 🇲🇾 . ❤️
shocked to see peoples are questioning henry's half asian and half british heritage. he was born in betong, sarawak, malaysia. he is a true iban despite having a brit father. He proudly had his rite of passage's called 'bejalai', the ethnic iban tattoo and a kelabit name. he has said he is originally iban and british. and he does look like asian. Be mindful that singapore, malaysia and parts of south east asia have always been trading nations and its local inhabitants are had inter marriage with natives, malays, chinese, indians, khmers, java, arabs, portugese and even dutch. so it is not surprising if locals in malaysia, indonesia and singapore calls themselves locals despite having the immigrant's, the colonizer's and the trader's blood, yet retain their ancestral tradition and now call themselves the locals. because it's true and this movie represents asian in the parts known to many as THE south east asia not China, Japan and the likes. the chinese lady in the movie who during araminta's reception wore a 'kebaya', an expensive Peranakan attire. Peranakan is a sub culture of mix marriages between Malays and Chinese. And they are considered Sons of the Soil or the native of Malaysia and Singapore.
GREAT CONVO
Awkwafina Is So Beautiful, Funny and Talented
Constance is so beautiful
Glad someone noticed.
Michell acting so superp...
cikpuan Sue
I’ve always enjoyed her graceful nature in every film. While, she seems to be aging a bit now 🧐, she’s still looking good. And god, I’ve always loved her voice.
I love the movie... will watch it over and over again!!! 💕💕💕💕
Saw this today and really liked it
I love this movie, I watched it 21 times, and I will watch it more and more, really...
"Great movie" ❤ I would definitely see it again
This movie really deserve Oscar
Can’t wait for the sequel crazy Rich Africans
yup, I just watched it td and found it so right tht "eat b4 u watch it" lol
Awesome. I loved it!
Is there a part II please...
I love that the hosts did their homework. The actors are STUNNING. i can't wait until the weekend when we get the film here.
Only in North America do people classify Chinese, Thai, Korean, malay, Indian, Japanese, etc as being Asian. This does not happen elsewhere
Kudos to Michelle Yeoh !
Seeing michelle yeoh, I just realized “crouching tiger hidden dragon “ was all asian cast directed by John Wu
Liz b yeah, that was a foreign language film
*Ang Lee
It's a Chinese produced movie not Hollywood but made it successful worldwide, and if I'm not mistaken it won an Oscar or maybe more. 😊
The significance is that this is an American film with an Asian cast, not an Asian film with an Asian cast which obviously is normal
Liz b And Memoirs of a Geisha. She really fits those kinds of role.
gonna support even if i dont see it...fandango baby
love love loved the movie! watched it today and couldn't stop laughing and smiling and had to wipe a few tears every now and then. They really paid attention to the details and worked tirelessly to make it as perfect as possible - if you watch John M Chu's breakdown of a Scene with vogue, he talked about how Michelle Yeoh pointed out that White Lanterns signified death, so they changed them to Red. Additionally, Yeoh saw a packet of MSG in a scene and was appalled by it, director chose to keep it on BUT after a screening, a guest noticed it too and they had it removed. A lot of the lines were improvised and actors were allowed to freely explore their creativity. I'm so happy for the success of the movie and hope for more open doors for Asian American actors.
We need an update on the sequels
Wished that they had invited "Astrid" or Gemma Chen to this line up of actors, too.
Michelle honestly....a gem....youre the reason I watch it =) go Star Trek!
i'm proud to be an Asian-American! Stop Asian hate!! Love one another!!
as an asian-american, seeing this representation in a film/interview for the first time in my life just brings tears to my eyes
One of my fav movie for 2018. Good job
I finally got to see Crazy Rich Asian’s today. This was by far the best movie I have seen in ages. It had me laughing and crying through out the movie.
wishing part 2 will show on 2019. very nice movie. very nice country, Singapore ☺
besides Singapore, its also been filmed at Kuala Lumpur, Penang and far-off Malaysian archipelagos
ken jeong’s hand around awkwafina?
Finally a funny movie with the most famous asians in the world.
Bwahahahahahahaaaa...nobody knows who these clowns are.
most famous asians? LOL. not a single one of them is famous except Yeoh.
They're not the most famous wtf
The only one famous through the years way back i remember is Nancy Kwan .
There are industries and countries outside America and hollywood that have countless famous Asian stars. These people are not the most famous Asians, except for michelle yeoh, they're all nobodies.
My Chinese mom watched this and she said the movie is ok. Basically a Chinese Cinderella story.
I rented this movie yesterday and I LOVED IT! It's not just an Asian movie, but it's for everyone. Plus, I'm a sucker for romantic comedies!
It held the audience attention throughout the story.A roller coaster ride filled with laughter and emotions, especially with Rachel. Love the strategy phrase about "Winning."
The blonde rocked and the bride approaching the groom- wow.
So much more....but everyone check it out yourselves.💜keep
loving, young generation of the future.
As an Asian American myself pretty happy about the role constance wu plays in this movie bravo Zulu.
The street food scene got me wanting to hit up Singapore
I loved it. It's No. 1 on my list of favourites.
Today's my birthday, and I was so excited to see this movie. And I saw it, it was amazing. Its best birthday present ever!
I have adore *Michelle Kwan* ever since I saw her with *Jet Li* and *Jackie Chan* in Kung Fu movies set in the early and mid 90's.
After that i loved seeing her in Ang Lee's 2 *Hidden Dragon, Crouching Tigers* movies.
Michelle was also cast a Bond Girl in *Tomorrow Never Dies* with 007 *Pierce Brosnan.*
And now, she shines and fully represents *Crazy Rich Asians* in 2018. What a gem!
So happy to see my childhood hero Michelle Yeoh again shes one baddass actor.
That's how you wear necklaces. Constance.WOW.
I love the perfection in the styling in Asian girls. Love them 😍 Aquafina’s suit is everything
good job guys
I went to Singapore last year after watching this movie 5 times lol
Can the Today hosts talk over their guests any more? Could've been interesting, but the movie cast didn't get to speak that much. Still, the movie snippets look interesting.
