She got canceled because she expressed what she thought and felt about the renewal of that series? Geez, people are insane. I'm having a hard time understanding where the issue lies there. You go, Constance! You're a blessing, not just in AsAm community, but all Asian communities in general.
The way she expressed what she thought was pretty disrespectful (posting on the shows socials in multiple places about her disappointment), but ultimately it was a mistake she apologized for and regretted. Plus given what she was experiencing on the show with harassment, very understandable. She's not a bad person for it, people make mistakes.
You get people calling you a spoiled idiot for wanting a successful tv show canceled, people hating you for being Stupid then you use the sex card so people like these on this site comfort you praise you not bad wish I could have a out like that.
I don't think people understand how powerful SHAME is in some societies, especially Asian and Eastern cultures. We are conditioned to believe our worth is defined by how honorable we are in the eyes of our families and communities, and if we do anything that they don't approve of, we are shamed, we are threatened with being shamed or bringing shame to our people. And it can in fact drive someone to suicide or to consider it. Just because there is no physical harm or threat to someone, or their problem is not medically diagnosed as mental illness and they're not directly being mentally and emotionally abused by someone, does not mean that what they are going through is not serious. People who grew up in more free western cultures don't understand this. Update: Wow, I just saw all the likes and comments from two weeks ago and I’m so glad if this comment makes you feel heard, and if it could in a small way help anyone overcome this illusion of shame that we were conditioned into. I also feel so heard myself from all your reactions and comments, I did not expect that, although I know many people go through that. I have myself had to internalize and process this since 2010 when i went through something, which would seem simple and manageable to people outside my middle eastern culture (and generally for people in the west), but for me it caused me so much mental and emotional pain that was suppressed, that I developed eczema rashes for about six years afterwards, and that’s when i realized the power of shame. Now I see that the thing that I felt shame about is actually not something to be ashamed of, so much that you might be really shocked if you knew what it was, and it didn’t even have to do with anything that might be considered promiscuous or sexually rebellious, not even close. But it is blown out of proportion by many people in my community and the society where I grew up. It took me years to heal and to get rid of feelings of shame, and realize it was all put into my head by other people, that it was passed down through generations. Because once i reached a point where this pain was crippling me, causing me depression and anxiety, I almost snapped and that’s when i decided ENOUGH, other people’s opinions of me are not worth this pain. That pain gave me perspective at the same time, and it sounds strange but it was what allowed me to overcome insecurities and shame that i realized i had, not just since 2010, but way before that while growing up. What also helped me was to take care of my health and diet and learning to say no and not suppress my feelings. While I was healing and starting to feel better about myself, I found a book titled “When the Body Says No” by Gabor Mate and it really resonated with my experience. Edit: I also want to add that I agree with someone else’s comment - that western culture has its problems and downsides, and asian/eastern cultures have a lot of positive things, such as in my case, my family will band together to support my professional and creative goals for example. And also that this can happen everywhere and that it is mainly certain fractions of society. For example, not all the other people my age who i went to school with and who grew up in the same country and society went through this conditioning into shame, because their families, extended families, and social circles around them were different. At that point in 2010 when I went through that situation, the brainwashing was mainly coming from certain individuals on my mom’s side of the family, and because they had so much influence over my mom, it affected our life, and she also had to suffer from their comments, over many years prior to 2010. But i know that she couldn’t be supportive of me because she was trying to do her best with what she knew and how she was herself conditioned, because although she and i disagree on certain things and she’s much more conservative than my generation, she was always still ahead of her family. Thank you all and much love ❤️🙏
But what did she say that was worthy of shame? I hear you, and I agree that those of us on the outside do not get what it is like on the inside, but to 'hang' her for the comment she made, most of it misunderstood and inconsequential, doesn't say much for that people! Why coddle such detrimental thinking? Seems like the people would literally be happy if she ended her life! Time to change that kind of thinking! Nothing honorable about it!
@@lenamasverat Totally agree. However it's not the same within the Mexican-American as they are akin to Western Society. Mexico and Mexican though, it's a totally different ballgame and extremely similar to the East Asian experience.

Poor woman. People whine about the lack of Asian representation then turn around and sabotage those who manage to carve out a place for themselves in the industry with their hard work. Good job. It's crazy people would be so unfair to her and hold her to these unreal standards that I don't really see white or black actresses held to. I haven't seen her other movies, but her performance in Hustlers really impressed me. I wish her the best and hope to still see her in future projects.

@@afrolens9532hattie mcdaniel won an oscar for gone with the wind and wasnt even allowed to attend the premiere of the film. Asian actresses dont go through anything close to that.
I don’t think cancel culture is stupid. People have the right to not support people that don’t align with their beliefs as long as those same folks don’t enforce their beliefs on others as well. But I will say if someone makes a mistake they should be afforded the right to also redeem themselves with actions (volunteering for a specific organization that helps folks they were being disparaging against, donating money for a while, serving jail time etc.) a simply apology doesn’t work. It’s just an apology for getting caught and facing backlash. Now depending on the issue at hand, even a genuine apology, volunteer or/and jail won’t cut it such as murder, rape/sexual assault or anyone especially children etc . So cancel away
@@BootyWarrior80892 As someone who is way older than most of ya'll... cancel culture is not new. It's been around for decades. Only thing is that conservatives/religious folks who felt the need to control what we all watch, what we do in bed and with whom, and what we can listen to amongst many other things. You just have to go back in history from "communists" being cancelled/blacklisted in the media and Hollywood to the 80s Religious Right. Now they are trying to cancel women from making important decisions about their bodies. So social media "cancelling" is maybe new in this type of format (online) but it certainly wasn't created by young folks/gen z or millennials. Just a bit of history and context for those younger. And I agree with you Logical: we have a right to cancel anyone we disagree with or boycott companies or people (comedians/artists/celebrities) that do not align with our beliefs.
@@BootyWarrior80892 generally speaking, in a perfect world, that’s how cancel culture would work. In reality there is no redemption, even for petty reasons. People cancel others for simply having a difference in opinion. And the cancelling comes with bashing, condescension, defamation, rumours, sensationalism, false accusations, etc. You’re right that people don’t have to support others they don’t like or agree with, but why not just simply do that instead of the whole bully campaign.
@@leahmay1506 I do think these bully campaigns are blown out of proportion only because it’s on tv etc. Realistically how can we prove that enough people are outraged by an opinion or action from someone because the fact that the media said this “group” is outraged so “pay attention” I think some folks just spend too much time on the internet and watching tv and need to go touch some grass
i feel like its such an unwarranted overreaction. haven't so many of us sent a tweet out of impulse about temporary feelings?! and why should she be flawless just because she's a celebrity?!
I can understand her relief at leaving FOB because she was sexual harassed there. There is so much cruelty in the words "nobody wanted you, I'm the one who got you this" from a person in power and control of your livelihood. It is so sad that she could not feel safe at a place that meant so much to her and her career. Stay strong! You are loved
I wish Constance Wu all the best. I'm glad she had the chance to tell her own story. Storytelling is a great and effective way to heal and help others who go through the same struggles feel noticed, heard, recognized, acknowledged, and not alone.
fall from grace? i was watching her tv show and movies and thinking "what a great actress!" without social media and she's thinking she's unliked or a blight. ridiculous!
Dang, that was super raw! Thank you Constance for being so vulnerable. Took a lot of courage. Being Asian-American myself, I am pretty aware of how harsh our "own" can be, a little too harsh if you ask me. Glad to see you are finding peace. I'm gonna go buy your book! :)
Something she said reminds me of "shame talk." She said the man who harassed her does so much for the Asian community and SHE didn't want to bring shame on the community by turning him in. The truth is that HE is bringing shame on the community and covering it with his "good works." She is so brave and courageous to share her story and I am so proud of her! But no matter how much good HE does, he will always be a blight on the Asian community.
Constance, your life is so precious!! I’m so glad you’re still here with us. You matter!! I wasn’t hurt by your tweet (I’m Asian American). You shared your own feelings and opinions. You are absolutely entitled to that!
Poor Constance. She’s such a strong woman. I’ve loved her since I saw her in crazy rich Asians and wondered why I hadn’t seen her since. She’s such a good actress and I hope things continue to get better for her here on out.
This is so sad. I watched Fresh off the boat growing up and loved it soo much. As an African American immigrant, that show resonated more with me than blackish. Constance feels like a mother to me, which is crazy cuz I didn’t realize she was so young. It’s so upsetting to see that she went though those struggles behind the scenes and in real life. She’s an amazing actress and human being and I hope her life gets better now that she’s gotten the bravery to speak up and seek help.
I really hope she is ok now, and realizes people attacking MEAN NOTHING, and only want to bring you down. You are honestly AMAZING and only a pleasure to watch.❤
Yeah, well even so no one deserves to get harassed regardless their past background experience. People hurt in many different ways and it’s okay to be vulnerable at times. As a human being I hope she is doing well and you too 😊

Then give everyone a platform to be heard, starting with male actors who suffer from SA without having any social aid or legal due process because of their gender
Wtf… I had no idea that she was going through all this. I feel her pain and frustration. As an Asian American woman I can completely understand and believe that a large part of the Asian community has shamed and shunned her for speaking her mind. She didn’t even tweet anything bad!!! She just wanted to express her down moment like any other effing human. As a female Asian American I felt like I was raised to fit into this mold to be obedient and please my elders no matter what. You are not allowed to speak back and whatever the elder says is final. It’s gross and creates unhealthy individuals and relationships. Time to stand up and speak up against it. That actress that DMed her has HUGE issues and she needs major help. I can’t believe she said all those things to her.
@@doggy3327 Constance confirmed it was a colleague she hadn't interacted with in a decade and had a son, which pretty much eliminates most her CRA or FotB costars.
While I know this is a huge part of the Asian culture....this so also true of some other cultures, religions, generations. Many of us were raised to self edit, modify, change, to fit a "mold". Shame is a huge perpetuating issue. The core wound of shame is one that is hard to heal, because to look at it, is to want to deny/deflect/avoid...vs look at it and have self compassion. It's hard to have self compassion and not self shame, when we weren't given compassion, and often shamed for so much. To be taught to self betray, to self abandon, puts a person at risk for so many unhealthy relationships and situations. It is a high risk for considering suicide...as suicide is the epitome of self abandonment. We need to learn to encourage people to be who they are, accept them, and support them. We also need to learn to heal ourselves, turn towards ourselves, learn who we really are, getting rid of self doubt...developing a way to not take things personally, an ability to have self agency and empowerment.
Oh gosh- I am just hearing about this. I’m so sorry Constance! We love you. My wife (Asian American) and I loved FOTB and CRA and were always looking for more of you! Stay strong!

I was sexually harassed for three months, I was ultimately diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. I finally reached out for help after suffering in silence, with countless mental breakdowns. There is hope, I am so glad that she got help!
Poor mamas, she deserves so much better. I swear people are so quick to hate someone without knowing anything. I have backed off social media and life got better for me. I hope her comeback brings her so much happiness.
“I was canceled for not being the Asian people wanted me to be.” I feel this deeply. It’s a shame that we shame one another for not being “enough”, as if any of us could quantify what that looks like. The crab mentality has got to go. 🙏🏽
I think rather than simply not being what Asian people want her to be, it’s more about immediately shitting on Fresh off the Boat (the show that got her cast in Crazy Rich Asians) after she couldn’t get out of her shooting schedule commitment. Then she watched fellow CRA actresses Gemma Chan and Awkwafina go on to star in The Eternals and The Farewell & Shang Chi respectively… She went on to play a supporting character in Hustlers, which was not a bad film but certainly not a Marvel blockbuster. The moral of the story is don’t kick out the rungs of the ladder you climbed up to get to where you are. It seems like she was so eager to climb that she was left holding neither the step up that she thought was waiting for her (Hollywood studio roles) or the step she thought was going to still be there beneath her (Asian genre films & shows). Within a matter of years, Simu Liu and Awkwafina started in the first Asian-led Marvel movie Shang Chi, Parasite won the Oscar and Chloe Zhao won an Oscar for Nomadland. If she had acted gracious and patient, she probably would have been right alongside her co-stars on Crazy Rich Asians today. I believe she should get more opportunities for lead roles but she did a lot of damage to her reputation in the Asian film community with her sense of entitlement.
I really want to know who sexually harassed her. She's probably not the only one. It will continue until that person is addressed. I hope she continues to thrive in her career and have truly supportive friends and family around her. Bless you, Ms. Wu.
I agree! I wish we could all know the name of that producer, AND the actress who said she's a blight on the asian community. The fact that she would probably LOOVE to say it out loud, but is holding it in, is just proof that she isn't some flippant person who says negative things out loud all the time. She knows it would be really hurtful to those peoples' careers, so she is keeping quiet. She deserves to be commended for that!
Looking through the credits, my money is on Melvin Mar. The stuff he’s chosen to produce is sleazy as hell. He started in Hollywood in 2002, and hes the only asian producer with multiple movies under his belt. I think he’s definitely got enough money and connections to think he can do whatever he wants.
I feel for her, since I loved her performance in Crazy, Rich. But many Asians may have been wrongly critical of her tweet, but saying Asian American community is so broad and there is no unified 'community'. That actress who told her those horrible words, should have the balls to reveal her identity. I look forward to her future acting projects.
in the asian culture, honour respect and grace is taken very highly. so when she was called a disgrace i felt that. i feel so bad because she didn’t deserve any of the negativity for just voicing out her opinions. i’m glad she’s doing better and hopes she gets all the happiness she deserves. this world is just cruel and toxic.
I experienced this recently as well because of bullying from a fellow Asian-American at my workplace. The comments from multiple people on social media (but especially this person) also sent me careening to the edge. It’s not anywhere as bad as what Constance went through, with her visibility and the public appetite for negativity. We need to do better.
@@katemiller7874 True, but how sad if many people have to endure bullying in the workplace. Makes me wonder just how many people are being bullied at work? Maybe it is better to have a stay-at-home job or with a church.

I’m just so glad she’s doing better. She is one of my favorite actresses. Her tweets use to make me laugh so hard before I left Twitter. I use to get so excited and cheer on whenever she clap back at people and call things out. That producer is so wrong for what he did. And I hope she knows that what he said isn’t true, she did not get that role because of him. She got that role because she’s an incredible actress and deserved it. That character could not be played by anyone else but her. She is the reason that show was successful not that toxic abusive producer. Without her I can’t imagine that show being as successful as it was. Period. Jessica the character is what made it entertaining, good and relatable, and that was all Constance Wu. I watched for Constance and millions of people watched to see Constance act as the character Jessica. That producer is an abuser, and what abusers do is make you feel small, not talented, and not capable of anything, but clearly it was all about his insecurities because she’s more talented than he could ever be. He tried to take her power by making her feel small because he didn’t want her to know she was more powerful than him.
At the time, I thought that she was being ungrateful. But c'mon now, she had to disappear for 3 years? People sure know how to hold grudges. We have all at some point typed something and immediately apologized for it. That was how she felt and some people felt some kind of way. But don't ostracize her forever. The people who egg things on the most tend to be the ones you thought would never violate you. I hope you get better Constance. 😔
Mental health is something the Asian community has little understanding of and little interest in learning. I work for a department that gives bilingual seminars and now webinars on health topics for the Chinese-American community. We have high attendance figures when the topic is heart disease and diabetes, but low attendance when the topic is mental health.
Can confirm this is still very true. Asian community (for the most part) still thinks its a bullshit thing and if someone says they need help, no one really helps and tells them to get it on their own.
How can people be so mean. She is not just an amazing actress but she is also a normal person with emotions and feelings. The fact that one of the producers tried to sexually harass her is just shocking! I hope that Constance sees that she has so many fans and followers. I am Scottish but my mothers family are greek descent so not Asian but I believe in kindness towards others. I am so glad she did not do the unthinkable. The world would be so much smaller without her! I have been dealing with PTSD for more than 15 years and ive thought about ending my life but I am so greatful for having some really amazing people around me! LOVE YOU CONSTANCE WU 💚❤
To those who aren't familiar, the concept of preventing "losing face" is a _huge_ deal in Asian countries, especially in China. People will go huge lengths to make sure their family or close friends aren't negatively impacted by their own actions, and this literally means supressing most personal opinions, wants, ideas, aspirations, etc. Losing face means your entire family will lose face too.
Just because you have a tradition doesn't mean you should keep that tradition. Especially when it shows how hypocritical you are. You know, like shaming people.
Thank you for speaking up. God bless you, princess Wu. You were depressed in crazy rich Asian, you are a damn good actress. Oscar will come to you; 0:02 and golden globe will come to you; SAG is coming to you and blessing upon blessings are coming to you. Motherhood kills a woman most of time but you are thriving on it even connecting to your Mom. Tell that story and make a nice dramatic film even better a TV series. March on!
Omg this made me cry 😢. I didn’t know she was going through this. People are ridiculous if they spend their free time bullying and harassing other people. I hope she finds healing.
This is why you should never ever be quick to judge. You don't know what people are going through. A tweet or post or whatever re. something that comes off as "distasteful" could have a valid backstory. We don't know what others' stories are. She was terrified to go back to work because she was being sexually harassed. What a horrible experience already and when she expressed not wanting to go back to the show, nobody even considered to ask her WHY.
you got it spot on and I agree. I had no idea that this happened to her I remember not seeing her in a while and wondering what happened, but I had no idea she had gone through so much. She's incredibly strong for putting up and going through with everything and still being here. I just feel that people shouldn't jump on a hate train or bandwagon so easily and instead hear people out and have more empathy and compassion. It makes me incredibly sad to hear everything that's happened to her and the crass and disgusting way she was treated. I am so glad to see she's okay and I wish her nothing but the absolute best.
I am so proud of her for being vulnerable and honest about the struggles that she experienced. I am so sorry that this happened to her. This really explains why we don't have Crazy Rich Asians 2 yet. I remember watching the cast of Crazy Rich Asians do a buzzfeed quiz. Everyone pointed out how quiet she was despite the rest of the cast laughing and talking. Everyone said that she was snooty especially after a TikTok video made by someone. And now seeing this it all makes sense why she was the way she was back then.
It’s funny how people assume the quiet pretty girl is snooty..people assumed the same of me when I was young. I was just shy and uncomfortable with attention due to my appearance…not a snooty bone in my body! Now I’m middle aged and if anyone wants to assume anything about me, I just have one finger for them! Hahahaha

You are successful and making it. They can say all they want but know your worth. We are behind you ❤❤❤❤ I would love to see you do more movies and grow in your career. Thank you Constance
Being an Asian I am a big fan of the fresh off the boat series. I felt betrayed when I heard she hated the show. How could she hate a show that got her acting career started? The ungratefulness is what got me. But I didn't realize how much the criticism shattered her as a person. She definitely doesn't deserve being treated like that. You know, the asian community should stand up together rather than subjecting her as a scapegoat of the racism and discrimination on us.
She could be grateful and still resent her contract. Imagine you get a good job, and you do well in it. Bigger companies see your work, and offer you opportunities that are more lucrative, interesting, and prestigious than your current job. Your job has come to an end, so you gladly engage with these new positions. And then your old job comes back and says NEVERMIND, we actually are keeping you on, and you’re contractually required to stay with us. No wonder she was pissed. The job was a good start, but after a few years it was holding her back.
I sort of hate how people expect celebrities to be 100% grateful for the shows/movies that launched them into stardom. They’re allowed to express their mixed feelings about projects and people assuming the worst about celebrities complaining about their projects really riles me up because it really exposes how people think celebrities are these incredibly stuck up people when most of them are humans like us.
Agreed. The whole “need to be grateful” thing is very toxic. We aren’t living their lives and a lot of stars end up dying young or experiencing great trauma because of the negatives of the job. I do think, professionally, it’s a good idea not too bad talk an employer, if you want to stay in the field. I’m very glad she is telling her story. Most of the people who were upset with her probably didn’t understand the consequence of that.
Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry that you went through all of that Constance! You have such an amazing talent and I loved you in Crazy Rich Asians. You did such an amazing job in the portrayal of a strong yet genuinely empathetic girl. I thought what beautiful expressive and kind eyes you have! I hope that you can realise what an extraordinary human you are and as I have learnt with my own girls struggles, sadly, jealousy and envy are often behind cruel and unjust criticism! Constance Wu just comes off as such a cool, strong, relatable person. You see her on-screen in her many roles, and it’s easy to admire her. She has a presence that commands respect, but also makes you want to smile and laugh along with her. Seeing her cry in this clip only strengthens that image; she talks THROUGH the tears, never allows the raw emotions to make her stumble. I don’t know a lot about her, and haven’t seen all her roles, but for my girlfriend and I, she is a top-3 favorite actress. Keep marching forward, Ms. Wu. You are the exact archetype of what a role model should be 🙌🏻
@@nightwing1984 sure they do; even strong people have breaking points. It’s overcoming that depression that shows strength. Look at her now! So tell me, what have you accomplished lately? Star in any movies?
she's literally the most thoughtful and sweetest person you can just tell with the way she acts and the way she carries herself. I was so happy when Fresh Off The Boat came out because it was the first time I saw a whole cast like me and I don't know who else could've better played the role that Constance did other than herself. I can't believe she went through this like Michelle Yeoh, Constance Wu, and Arden Cho are in my opinion the ones that have been leading Asian representation in Hollywood. I'm so glad she's back and is doing better. To whoever bullied her over that twitter comment which is completely justified with her going through sexual harassment by its producer, you need to get rid of Twitter, throw your phone away and your existence off the Internet.
When she got the backlash and when that Asian actress said that she is a blight to the Asian American community, it really made me angry and hurt. Many people these days, not just the Asian American community, always take things the wrong way these days for sensationalism, drama, and it just creates a big hive mind. I was ostracized by a local Asian American group due to a misunderstanding, and I was called a disgrace and that I was "not Asian". This AA group that I used to be a part of when looking back at it, had a really big hive mind mentality. Anything that goes against their ideas or is seen as "disrespect" no matter if it was on purpose or misunderstood, would be dismissed regardless as disrespect. The people that I thought were friends and people who understood me, were in actuality toxic and savages. This kind of hive mind in the AA community (some, not all) is one of the reasons why, as much as I want to link up with other Asians and Asian Americans, I don't wish to associate or even have an interest to be a part of a group because of this hive mind mentality that seems to be present in many of these groups. I don't mean to be off my rocker and go off, this is not at the level of what Constance experienced, but the fact that many people within the AA community went off (due to a misunderstanding and going off on the surface, that hive mind mentality), along with that Asian actress saying that she was a blight to the AA community really pisses me off.
I had that experience too. These groups form very powerful cliques. To be honest, we AAs aren’t known for emotional compassion. Seeing how mental illness and suicidality are treated, it’s clear that we inherited that from the old country, and we haven’t reflected on ourselves on how this is beyond outdated.
Exactly why I have no desire to interact with peer group of Asian Americans. I am perfectly content being me and feel no desire to be a part of their community ❤️❤️❤️
Sorry for your experience. It's sad that we live in a world where so many value tradition and culture over the wellbeing of humans. Something's gotta give. Time for change.💛

The way she expressed what she thought was pretty disrespectful (posting on the shows socials in multiple places about her disappointment), but ultimately it was a mistake she apologized for and regretted. Exactly..she said she was sexually harrassed on set..
Update:
Wow, I just saw all the likes and comments from two weeks ago and I’m so glad if this comment makes you feel heard, and if it could in a small way help anyone overcome this illusion of shame that we were conditioned into.
I agree.

She is so sweet. I can’t believe she went through this. Social media is so toxic. Cancel culture is so stupid
That’s what you all get for creating it
I don’t think cancel culture is stupid.

Spot on. 🎯👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Which producer? What's his name?
Actually, she’s obviously NOT okay
At the time, I thought that she was being ungrateful. But c'mon now, she had to disappear for 3 years? People sure know how to hold grudges. We have all at some point typed something and immediately apologized for it. That was how she felt and some people felt some kind of way. But don't ostracize her forever. The people who egg things on the most tend to be the ones you thought would never violate you. I hope you get better Constance. 😔
I’m so blown away by her. She’s so strong and inspirational. I hope we continue to see her boom!
Man there is major issues with with mental health in the Asian community that needs light and addressing.
That's true. Japan and South Korea have very high suicide rates specifically. Japan even has a "suicide forest."
Yeah, we don't talk about mental health in the Asian community.
Thank you , your right on point
I truly hope she is healing and finding peace now. People can be so deeply unkind.
@@diggs5518 people don’t do it willingly. It’s just something you grow up believing and that’s how you cat yourself in the world
Rubbing elbows "like" ole JuJu Chang here is the goal for these folks and many times it doesn't pan out...JuJu Shapiro.
We need to break out of these stupid traditions
Yup 💯. Your action defines your upbringing and your “loved ones” it’s toxic.
March on!
WTF…why did people treat her so badly. We love her. It’s crazy the things we didn’t know. Her fans would have told her how much we love her.
They are racist I’m black and I feel like the level of racism they face especially nowadays is so effed up
no one treated her badly, shes playing the victim. you're not paying attention to what she said.
All of this is to sell a book
And i noticed your pathetic existence in every person's post here, spreading your disease. Get a life @@masonlee5453
Omg this made me cry 😢. I didn’t know she was going through this. People are ridiculous if they spend their free time bullying and harassing other people. I hope she finds healing.
Constance, if you ever read this - I'm so glad you're still here
This is why you should never ever be quick to judge.
Nope
I am so proud of her for being vulnerable and honest about the struggles that she experienced. I am so sorry that this happened to her. This really explains why we don't have Crazy Rich Asians 2 yet. I hate this happened to her, but I am thankful she had a good friend who helped her get professional help.
Such a beautiful human. Thank you for speaking up!! You make the world better.
Thank you for having the courage to speak up! We support you!
You don't know what goes on behind close doors - had no idea Ms Wu was going through so much. I hope she's taking life one day at a time and she's going to be a beautiful and graceful mum ❤
She’s so strong! Don’t give up Mama, you’re doing a GREAT job! ❤
I feel so bad for her. I’m not Asian but I know how much social pressure and anxiety lives within the community, I can’t even imagine how traumatic this must have been. To feel like your entire community hates you 😢 I just wanna give her a hug
Thanks for sharing! It's crazy what goes behind the scene. We stand with you Constance!
You go girl for speaking up and standing up for yourself. Do not apologize for something that is not your fault.
Ladies, please do not apologized for something it was not your fault. Do not blame yourself for others' inappropriate behaviors.
This is crazy, I didn’t even know she was gone. And this all happened. She’s amazing and I wish the best for her.
Actually, I join all other Asian Americans who regard her as a national treasure and want to do whatever we can to protect and honor her. She is not only honest and sincere, she is very brave.
Queen. This woman is so brave and helping so many breaking the taboo of speaking truth ❤
I've always loved her! This made me cry. So glad she got helped and speaks up now. You go Chica!
Upsets me how much pain she went through. I’m so glad she’s better now and she’s still here to share her story
Very sad she was made to feel this way and also the awful things men did to her. 😢 She is a great actress and strong, beautiful woman. God loves you girl don’t let anyone steal your shine! Congrats on becoming a mama too!
I feel her and I’m glad she got out of it and made it through! So happy she is still here to talk and express her feelings!
Dang. I’m so sorry this happened to her. I remember this tweet and shaking my head, but I didn’t think it was THAT big of a deal. We love you girl. Praying for you - that the you be restored.
she is such a beautiful person
I'm so so happy she spoke out about what she's been going through. I never would have known all this was happening to her. We love you, Constance Wu💗
Hahahaha
There was t enough white people for her to be around since shes such a bed wench
She’s just too real and nice for evil hollywood and socials
I didn’t know she was going through all this. This breaks my heart. I hope things get better for her. Bullying is not ok. Don’t be shy, tell us who said these awful things to you.
You have a light within you girl and don’t let anyone try to extinguish it! Especially not you! Huge comforting and reassuring Hugs sweetie! xx
Shame on the other Asian Actress who probably jealous of her from the beginning and couldn’t wait to harass her. Disgusting
I really kinda know which asian actress she's talking about...

“We’re all so much more than our…Tweets.”
So many people on the Internet need to hear this. Constance Wu is a great person, I hope she’s feeling better.
I had no idea you went thru all this! I loved you on all your shows and the movie is amazing. I'm glad you're still here and hope to see you in movies and shows again 🙏🏽🙌🏽
I'm so glad she spoke out and pray she recovers incredibly well from this! The people who put you in a box and put pressure of broken social constructs on you are wrong and always will be.
Goodness, it's so crazy how mean some people can be without realizing that they could be pushing someone over the edge. Constance Wu, you are brave and strong, your story will definitely help others who are also struggling.🖤
Even worse, some of them know exactly what they're doing.
I had no idea all of that had went on. I loved watching her in Crazy Rich Asians but this interview made me a true fan of hers. What a wonderful and strong person!
Wu. You are the exact archetype of what a role model should be 🙌🏻
Strong people dont fold and attempt to off themselves.
@@nightwing1984 sure they do; even strong people have breaking points. It’s overcoming that depression that shows strength. Look at her now! So tell me, what have you accomplished lately? Star in any movies?
Beautifully said.
Yeahh that’s not true at all. She comes off like a spoiled bitch
Constance Wu is a beautiful and wonderful human being, a great actress and a real treasure. I love her forever. I hope she will be okay.
she's literally the most thoughtful and sweetest person you can just tell with the way she acts and the way she carries herself.
I don't mean to be off my rocker and go off, this is not at the level of what Constance experienced, but the fact that many people within the AA community went off (due to a misunderstanding and going off on the surface, that hive mind mentality), along with that Asian actress saying that she was a blight to the AA community really pisses me off.
i didnt realise she got that backlash
I had that experience too. These groups form very powerful cliques. To be honest, we AAs aren’t known for emotional compassion. Seeing how mental illness and suicidality are treated, it’s clear that we inherited that from the old country, and we haven’t reflected on ourselves on how this is beyond outdated.
Exactly why I have no desire to interact with peer group of Asian Americans. I am perfectly content being me and feel no desire to be a part of their community ❤️❤️❤️
Well she does still wench with a white dude...they arent completely wrong about her...
Sorry for your experience. It's sad that we live in a world where so many value tradition and culture over the wellbeing of humans. Something's gotta give. Time for change.💛
Glad she’s sharing her story and that she’s better now. That’s heartbreaking to hear.
So people are missing the point, Wu was aware of a potential New Season of FOTB. When Wu heard the news of the renewal, she was trying to get out of it because she had other bigger projects knowing it will affect the other cast members.
Damn i really feel for her imagine being cold shouldered, boycotted, and bullied because of one mistake or disagreeable comment that you made WOW . Then to go through being assaulted sexually is even more scary and disturbing 😳
That poor lady. I hope she can find healing and peace. She's so lovely, and she deserves to be able to live her best life like everyone else.
Literally never heard that she was “cancelled”… she was clearly struggling and got bullied when she was having a tough time. It is not an easy business to be in. my heart goes out to her and for being so upfront about her journey! How amazing. I will be buying her book ❤
She is brave for owning her story and sharing it. Looking forward to seeing her in more roles.
i didn’t even know this happened. you can tell her tears are genuine. you can’t replicate it.
everyone should read her memoir, “Making A Scene;” it’s one of the most amazing books i’ve ever read and helps really understand what she’s gone through
I hope her career continues to grow, I have enjoyed watching her movies an tv show.
