Lee- thank you for your videos! Love the nuggets you give us!!!!
I discovered the post-Jim Doors albums in the summer of '81 while I was working at Vassar College. Until I spotted them in a music shop, I had no idea they existed, and I was a *huge* Doors fan in high school.
Thanks Leland my friend, and thank You for all your sharing. ✌️
Thanks for the memories 73 and still listen to the Doors keep it alive man
We loved this one! My son and I listen to you most every night now while he brushes his teeth and gets tucked in. He’s always the one that reminds me “Leland” time. It’s such a comfort and bond now between us. He’s a budding guitarist, and has already played some of the songs you’ve introduced to him. Thankful you are introducing and instilling love of the greats in the young un’s 🙏
Im wondering how old your young un is?
@@lastnamefirst4035 He is 11 😊
COOL!

I met Ray and John at WNEW 102.7fm NY in 1982 I was 12 years old still have the Pictures of me and them along with my signed Morrison Hotel Album.Thank you for your memories and experiences.
They were always a great, tight band.
Thanks for the DOORS!!!!!
Saw Caesar and Cleo at the teen fair Pomona the '60s... Long time ago in a land faraway. ;-)
Good morning everyone and bless you, Lee!
You beat me to it!
Me 2🤪
Don't forget to use the hand sanitizer. Or else wipe on your pants?
What great tunes. I haven't heard them before. Thanks for that.
Evening Lee and all

Hi John
Lee , thanks for your videos . . FYI , I love your stuff AND your playing !
It is fun to go back in the wayback machine with you Lee!!!!!
The previous video with The Doors is number 579., well worth the second visit. 👍
Thanks Lee for all the great music…for sharing your memories…for telling so much interesting stories…and for telling people that it’s better to get vaccinated than to die from Covid-19…peace and happiness to you and everyone else…please stay safe and healthy
Finally Thank you! The Doors played at my high school Cleveland High in the San Fernando Valley in 1967 right before summer vacation. They were just beginning to be nationally known as their first album gained traction. Our principal Ms. Hofer was a tall, large woman who tangled with Jim Morrison right off the bat due to unsuitable lyrics and attitude lol.. Needless to say the concert was cut short. but we did see and hear them play..No shoes and all....
I completely understand your "regret" at not having a camera with you in those days.
60's & 70's era stories & photos will always have their allure. That why we are so attracted to photo monographs and prints by photographers of that time.
What's more, the photos of "behind the scenes" even have more interest than live concert coverage. There is a peek behind the curtain in the BTS shots. Jack Daniels, Budweiser and weed seem to tell a better story than plastic water bottles & kambucha of today.
As the KLOS photographer for many years I have some fun shots of you, Leland, at a few of the Mark & Brian Christmas gigs which you happily mentioned a whlhike back.
I try to dig those out of the archives someday.
So when I push back on not shooting rehearsals or in studio stuff I tell this story. It's amazing how fast the bands agree to having BTS type shots done.

I must say that The Doors were able to dance around with these tunes on top of a floor laid down by this happy genius, Leland Sklar. His memories weave audio pathways through the canyons of my mind. I first heard "Light My Fire" blasting out of a hippie van at an outdoor concert in the SF East Bay hills headlined by Steve Miller Band. The raw power of Jim's vocal and the strange circus sound of the band hooked me in (even though I was something of an SF band bigot at the time). It's great to know how Leland joined The Doors circus sound for a couple of sessions.
I’ve been humbled to meet Robby Krieger a few times And I had total butterflies he was the sweetest guy ever he played at the write off room 2 times and brought his artwork with them as well he’s a great artist
good morning. glad to hear more of your work with the Doors. looking forward to the clubhouse on Wednesday. cheers.
Another great show Lee thank you so much!
So many great stories. You are a national treasure.
Nationwide
good evening we love the door thank you
Lee, again so cool to listen to your music career experiences 🙂 My older brother shared his love of The Doors with me. Cooling down here in Colorado. A bit of snow ❄ in the mountains.
Lol Misquito 👩😋
Weeeeeee 🎵💗🎵💗🎵
Love this band. I totally got into them in middle school (83-85) and still enjoy their jams to this day. Crazy unique group of cats!
Have a great week!
FAR OUT!!! Lee, you sir are the ultimate music historian!!! It is SO important that you are here telling these stories because these are more comprehensive and are unedited and told in the first person... YOU! This is Wayyyyyy better than a book and THANK YOU! Keep the stories coming pleeeeease! Stay safe!!
Paramount Ĺeland Sklar!
A good one, Lee! Love the stories.
Good day sir, The Doors , WOW. But they must of said the same about you when you walked in! Stay Cool.
That’s some of the wildest organ playing I’ve ever heard. Nice solid bass. Love it!
God bless you!
Love Lee, trying putting the listener the psychedelic mood...What a gas!!
Legend! Love to hear you talk more about the LA scene in the late 60s! The Doors hold iconic status for me. Jerry Scheff played on my favourite Doors album but you got the call before him so that says volumes. Keep on rocking!
Big fan of Jerry.
@@lelandsklar6363 So am I
Love that era of the King!
Almost made goodmorning !! 12.45 in the great white north. Thanks and have a great day, my friend. 👍😀🇨🇦
Cool bass….been away for almost a week, looking forward to catching up on all the other videos I missed..and I mean MISSED. Stay safe🖕
oh man!!! F***in cool! I have never heard this album!!! What up with that??!! Slacking on my part. Love the Doors!! With Jim and without. Again, more totally recognizable musicians!! G*d they are great .. hey, the bassist is a bad-ass!!!! WOW! I now must get this album. Holy 🐄 !!!! Love this!!!!
Lee, this is so great. Thanks for bringing this album out.
Happy Monday Lee. It seems with you every day is busy:) Cheers!
I remember Marshal Brevitz club in Miami - Thee Image featuring Blues Image as house band.
Went there many times and saw many great bands there including Blues Image.
I was friends with he guys in Blues Image when they were here.
@@lelandsklar6363 Very cool, Leland. I know Mike Pinera - he used to sit in with my band (AXIS) in Ft. Lauderdale in '72 and I've been in touch with him ever since.
I saw Blues Image at Ravinia opening for Iron Butterfly around 1970-1. Blew my socks off. Their Open album is still one of my all-time favourites. Great sons and great players. Sadly one hit wonders with Ride Captain Ride, but the rest of Open still kicks ass IMHO! Always delighted to see them mentioned anywhere.
@@bazgolin1036 Have you ever heard their first album - Blues Image? It's just as good as Open - and their first single - "Can't You Believe In Forever" - it was fantastic.
Lee puts on his shades!
FABULOUS! And THANK YOU Leland❣️
Stay safe everyone 🤗 and have a Marvelous Monday😉👍
Love the Doors
Different context so even hearing dups changes everything.
@ 2:52 Bless you! 🤗
@Hans Peter Lillesøe No, just came back after a two-days trip back from Sardinia to Northern Germany.
Wouldn't this be a dream the Immediate Family opening for Genesis when they come to the US
I had the vinyl versions of Other Voices and Full Circle.
Calypso vibe..First song..All great songs..
"Fillmore Mood" good description. Feel more at the Fillmore-BBHC
mr ray manzarek was brave talented professional who had too front trio using every thing he had..imagine having too remember all intricate lyrics!!!
Everyone loves Morrison, and I get that, but I don't think The Doors would ever reach even half of their fame without Ray.
@@rokobacic8404 he was the ingredients to the cocktail of The Doors - Morrison was the straw that stirred it.
Great 👌🏻 Thank You Lee 👍🏻
On It Slipped My Mind you can clearly hear Robbie's massive influence on the Jim Morrison era of The Doors. Kreiger was Jim Morrison's secret weapon.
The Doors are my all favorite band! Cool stories man! I love the beard to.
Hello lee, love those organ sounds of way back then. Ray was the shit. Good day to you. 😎 ps. Don’t forget your smoothie. 😋
You know what they say: Musicians never really die, they just decompose. 😜
Damn... All I need now is a big ol' fuckin doob.. ..
Mosquito reminds me of Beatles - You Know My Name. Digg it Lee
“Just done slipped my mind - just so hard to find”. More and more I’m afraid since I turned 50 👍✌️
Not so scary. C'mon over to the old side
I think that album is finally growing on me. I was not a fan when it first came out. Like many I felt is was not a Doors album without Jim. Now days I listen to it and realize just how important the other guys where in creating that band. Jim probably would have never made it with any other combination of players. It really was the combination that made them the Doors.
Bonjour de France. Vous avez absolument raison. 🇫🇷👍🍷
Did not expect to get a laugh this late in the evening! Moments in the august history of American pop music followed by "Mosquito" and the psychedelic hand movements.... Also still enjoying the retorts.... Interesting contrast in material history vs. music (which still sounds pretty current). Hardwood flooring became passe, replaced by linoleum and/or carpet, and then became uber chic again (maybe eclipsed by stone in some instances). So the flooring reference is a bit more outdated than the sound.
Similar deal with the photography concept. In the current selfy era it's easy to forget how unenthusiastic a lot of people used to be about having their picture taken (I remember). You can't rule out the possibility that it was a better idea to snap away after you'd become well established and not before....
I know they gave it the old college try, but when I saw “The Doors” without Morrison in summer of ‘73 I ended up leaving before the show was over.
What a great drummer
Morning Lee, 0500 here in NZ and getting ready to start work Have a good day y'all
what an early rise Mike. good luck today. cheers mate.

Hey lee, great story telling👍I’m jealous 😎
Ray Manzarek put out a great album in the 70s “Golden Scarab”. It is worth a listen!
I’m sure you recall when they were the house band at the Whisky?
I do
@@lastnamefirst4035 Do you remember the first artist to open the Whisky? Hint-He was a secret agent man 🤫
@@HamiltonRb Johnny Rivers! JR from what I unddrstand was responsible for getting many musicians and bands gigs at the Whisky. Actually when alot of the greats were playing there I was couple of yrs too young to get in. My gf's and I would hang out in hope we could slip by. Sometimes we got in. Most time we didn't. Could still hear the music from outside...wow, a long time ago. Now Im an old cat lady but still enjoying good music each day
Good reviews and great clips from last nights show.👍
awesome
Wow. "The Mosquito" really grew on me (so to speak.) It went from a Ray Stevens-esque thing to a Doors+ jam.
Gesundheit, by the way.
Lee thanks for the trip I really enjoyed it. I always remember the doors and reds went together. Oops did I say that out loud?
Did you ever go to the swing auditorium in San Bernardino and play? I saw many concerts from about 69 to I don't know whenever the plane crashed into the building and that was it.
Thank you again.
have a great day 😁✌️ everybody
When?
Did Lee play there?
Okay thank you
😎👍❤🖖
Love brother
Hi Lee, it's been a while, as I have returned to work after having both knee's replaced last year.
Please reinforce the message "Covid sucks"!
I know first hand!
I’m having the same problem with my eyes and reading my charts. In videos, I see that I’m squinting a lot.
Hey! Leland. Itabuna- ba Brasil ...
Very odd that although I'm familiar with your music, I really don't know much about you and yet you visited me in a dream last night. So strange. I really don't dream about people all that much, let alone famous people. Anyhow, we were at a buffet and had a nice chat lol
Robbie still brings it today! I saw their last big concert with the their of them before they hung it up. (Hollywood Bowl with Tim Buckley and Zappa's Grand Wazoo 1972)
Since that I saw them all separately. Ray at the Whisky (Golden Scarab tour); John Densmore (at a friends Birthday party - first time I ever heard/saw a Cajon); Robby Krieger - I've seen the most recently - twice with Danny Seraphine's CTA, at Little Feat's 50th anniversary tour and the last show before the Covid lockdowns March 12th late show at The Baked Potato.
Wasn't A&M formed by Herb Albert? That was a powerhouse label with so much talent behind it.
Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss

Hey Hey
So you were on the Rock Legends Cruise in 2020 with Goose? Did they get to meet you?! Love that band! Love to know what you thought Lee! ✌
You have to love the Doors, even without Jim Morrison. They were the headliners at the first concert I saw. I was 15 and they were at UCSB with the Chambers Brothers. "Time" was their big hit. Interesting that you mention those oldies acts.My last gig before the shutdown was an oldies cruise with Bryan Hyland, Thank you for everything as always!!
Saw Chambers Brothers at my 1st rock fest and 1st psychedelic trip. Wonderful Time
@@lastnamefirst4035 and what a long strange trip it's been.
love your channel!
don't know if you've discussed this, but, what would you have done if you had not become a musician?
I was a science/art co major in college and was looking at medical illustration or oceanography.
@@lelandsklar6363 Its funny to hear you say you still can't believe this is more than a gig. Great gig!
Close your eyes and imagine it’s Clint Eastwood talking… there’s something there.
You and Doug Lubahn - The Doors Bassists!
Hi Rick
Add Lonnie Mack to that list😉
@@barrywaples8150 I guess I missed him. Which album was he on?

Morrisson Hotel
Roadhouse Blues.Similar situation to some of Lees. Happened to be recording
next door. Met in corridor " Hey,come play bass "
Had the pleasure of seeing Lonnie Mack in UK ,probably 30 ish years ago
And Jerry Scheff!
Lee, I've always been a big fan....but to know you played with the Doors on the full circle album makes you a legend for sure! Some of my favorite songs on that album are the Piano Bird and Vertilac. Those are such groovy songs, did you play bass on those as well? Take care man.
I think "Other Voices" was the first album without Jim.
✌️👍🎸Yes , "other voices " was. the 1st without Jim .
" Full Circle" was the 2nd and last without Jim.
Trippy
bless you..jesus saves kisses sky..its fascinating how thee doors would carry on many numerous apparence,s without PRESENCE OF Mr Morrison even whilst alive..trio just carried own professionally..also after jJM Passing the doors music an writings had local Latin influence...thank you sir
Densmore liked the latin stuff
I buy reading glasses and look over them asking . did you colour your hair?
No…
I love how they had radical break aways in these songs ! The Peace Love Bass is warm as can be ! Thank You as always!!
Hi Lee are you going to talk to Daryl after tonight's first concert?
Lee, I love Oliver Schnee's new album. Thanks again for turning us on to some great music. I'm going to dig into it some more during a two-hour drive I'm getting ready to make. Hope you have a fabulous week. /Robert Segal
I checked out Oliver Shnee too. Good stuff
Leland have you ever played with Johnny Winter? Also what did you think of his music Thanks.
Played with Edgar. Totally dug Johnny......
Frankenstein?
Peace/Love ... Frankenstein was not built yet!
I don’t know the etiquette of the biz…..but I wish there could be a way, when Genesis plays in LA, for them to get you up on stage for one song…..that would be so cool…..
I would love it but it would be their show.
@@lelandsklar6363 True Leland, but your bass playing is world class.... It would be a complement to anything they play. Thank you for sharing your amazing stories.
I recall Bob Weir singing back in the 1960’s during a I need a miracle song - he sang the lyrics “LA was going to fade away -ha!” He said it had something to do with the song that Jerry then sang called Gomorrah. But get this, guess who taught the opening riff to playing in the band, David Crosby! And here is what David Crosby says about Mr. Morrison - enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/rz23uYQp0CQ/v-deo.html
I've always loved The Doors! It must seem rather strange to be asked to play bass for them since they never saw the need for a regular bass band member, yet an honor to be called when they felt they really needed one.
Everyone who's vaccinated; raise your hand! All the rest of you; GET YOUR SHOTS!
Stay safe and stay well!
Ironically, the bass lines on a lot of The Doors songs were amazing. It's only later on that I thought «wait... they have a singer, a drummer, a guitar player and keyboardist, yet their bass lines are great... so who's playing them?»
