    Remember at the end of episode 2, where Ellie was standing there, trying to process what had happened, while Joel was shut down, walking away, and 100% mission oriented? This is the mirror image of that. Joel is processing the trauma while burying Henry and Sam, while Ellie is now mission focused, and emotionally shut down.
    The premise of the entire series is "what we do for love".

    As a player of the game, knowing the outcome of the episode, when Ellie cut her hand to heal Sam I just broke down in tears.. In my opinion it just shows how innocent Ellie still is in a world that is the complete opposite. It just broke my heart lol

    The show is about love. Everyone who died died for their love of someone else. Love will save humanity and that same love will doom everything.

      @rnkelly36 - You're absolutely right! The essential, core, true theme of TLOU is LOVE! - This series (game source material) questions how 'powerful' love is... what you'll do for those you love... and ultimately, is love... enough... or even, is 'love'... too powerful?

    Perry's (the bearded guy who works for Kathleen) death was pure poetry, and couldn't have been given to a more fitting character IMO, because the guy who plays Perry - Jeffrey Pierce - voiced Tommy in the game, and the way the Bloater killed him - grabbing him by the mouth and ripping the top of his head off - is an iconic Bloater kill from the game, so having that iconic kill go to someone who was a relatively prominent part of the game was perfection IMO.
    Also, Ellie's gasp at the end when Henry kills himself still haunts me all these months later.

    Was curious if you're watching the after episode segments as well? The creator, director, and actors discuss the episodes. I highly recommend them if you aren't 👍🏻

    The special thing about this is 1) Henry didn't lie to sam.... And 2) didn't speak for him.... Very cool... Sam has his voice and Henry let him speak.. that's really beautiful ❤

    Sam, in the game wasn’t deaf. But for the show, I think it was a brilliant addition to the lore.

    The only people who become infected and turn are those who actually survive the bites. Most of the people in the KC infected scene are getting ripped apart. Getting bitten and then dying just means you're dead.

    The most heartbreaking part about the conclusion is that the first person Henry ever directly killed was his own brother, who he gave up so much to try and keep alive.

    Just to focus on Bella Ramsey for a minute, how great is she? Even when she isn’t delivering lines, just the sounds she makes are amazing (thinking of the gasp/cry she makes when Henry kills himself … it is just so full of understandable emotion).
    As said in other comments, collaborators are those who work with an invader, whether because of their beliefs, or for personal gain/survival. Not an uncommon thing, it happens throughout history, and once the invaders leave those who worked with them are often treated quite poorly by those who didn’t submit, and the beginning of this episode made me think of scenes from Band of Brothers (amazing show. Have you watched it?), which represents what happened in Europe in WWII.
    Obviously the FEDRA in Kansas City was way worse than that in Boston. The public executions we saw in the first episode were harsh, but one person sneaking back in past sentries could cause an outbreak in the QZ that might kill everyone. (In this, Joel and Tess are kind of being selfish jerks, but that may be a hard package to sell, so forget I said it). I find the Firefly group in Boston to be less fighting for freedom (the fungus doesn’t really care about your rights) and more about them thinking they should be in charge … and in 20 years the Boston Fireflies couldn’t push FEDRA out of power. Kansas City FEDRA, however, didn’t just breed a stronger Firefly group … they pushed and punched the people until they saw revolution as their only way out. My feeling is that Kathleen’s brother was a “hey we need to resist this” type, while after his death Kathleen stood up in his place and said “hey, lets kill these ****s” at just the right time.
    Definitely traveling through a world, here … and there may be little messages in the various situations Joel and Ellie find themselves in, but I also think the show is just painting a picture of what is, such that we can better see the motivations of our main characters … maybe?

    When you zoom out, this show is grim, you need to zoom in to see the beauty. Think of Bill and Frank? They both died, so were they pointless? Far from it. Sam and Henry died, so were they pointless? Far from it. If there is a takeaway, it's that maybe the big payoff for life, is right under your nose all the time.
    A 'rat' is someone who helps an oppressive regime for some kind of personal gain or for self preservation, by informing on their friends.
    The big fella is called a 'bloater' and you are correct, it is a very old 'mature' example of an infected person.

    Very good observation about the fungus inside sam and burying them. Yes, those fungal mycelium still growing in Sam will connect undergound to other mycelim in the area.

    to provide some clarity: the takeaway for this episode was to cement the quest's importance to Ellie. she couldn't save Sam, which makes her want to save anyone else she can with the vaccine. that's why she asks "which way's west?" because that has become that much more important to her.

    I’d suspect that places like Vanuatu, Fiji, other remote small population pacific islands, Amazon tribes, deep in the Congo, Submarines deployed before the infected food was distributed, the ISS, maybe some other ships would be safe. Also Eskimos who practice traditional living, etc. would all survive.

    All the hope reside in Elie, being the cure or at least the key for vaccine. In the game we do everything to protect her. In this episode we can see how she tried to use her blood to save Sam. We see at the end of the episode how she felt about not being able to save him, she wrote Sorry! Keep the good reaction, love watching you going tru 🙂

    Ellie is...the center of this story. Henry and Sam's deaths are important.... especially Sam's death for the impact it has on Ellie. Remember...she is the 'last of us'.
    Everything about 'Endure and Survive' gets to me... but Ellie hugging Sam on the edge of the bed... well... it gets me every time.
    That 'Big Guy' has been around for a long time, likely more than 15 years, first as a runner, then as a clicker, eventually living long enough to become what is called a 'Bloater'. Though I've never played, they seem to be the 'baddies' in the game!

    I have been thinking about your parts of the world question... Another part of that question is ... are there parts of the world where flour is so seldomly consumed that the bulk of the population wasn't infected at the start. and if they payed attention to what was happening in the rest of the world were they able to isolate themselves. my guess is we'll never know because we aren't following their story but there would have to be pockets like that where no one got infected at the start and they were able to isolate in time. Would be especially fortunate if it were an island nation.

    • @frozenharold
      @frozenharold Рік тому

      Whether or not they used flour would be irrelevant after a brief amount of time simply because it spread so fast through people.

    • @OlmanWillo
      @OlmanWillo Рік тому

      @frozenharold if it's spreading the way it does in the TV show it absolutely matters. If a bite or fluid transfer is needed to transmit.l humans can easily build fortifications on places that people live. Think if can have a qz survive 20 plus years with the infection already surrounding you. Then you can definitely survive and thrive if you start with news of the disease + some prep time.

  • @TomTomson81

    Where there are no people, there is no fungus. The fungus is developed in such a way that it only affects humans. The fungus survives for a while if the host is dead, but if he does not find a new host, the fungus will die at some point.
    What you can learn from the episode is that every action has an impact that can bite us in the ass at some point. Sam died because he should have died much earlier. Instead, the brother betrays an entire people in order to save him. Many continue to die as a result. Kathleen is the consequence of his actions and the one who sets fate right again. But since she, too, has only the selfish goal of revenge in mind, just like Henry, the rescue of his brother, both act at the expense of others, who ultimately all die. In this respect, everyone got what they deserved in the end. Everyone made mistakes at the expense of others and was punished. This is called karma. The only innocent person here was Sam. He is the coleteral damage.
    All the characters in the show are in some way directly related to the characters Joel and Ellie and their character. They're basically just a tool. They show us viewers what all sorts of paths Joel and Ellie could take in terms of character. What they have in common and how they differ. Bill and Frank, for example, have shown that a fulfilled life is possible if you choose to do so. The show is all about decisions and, above all, their consequences.

      Collaborator means someone who helps an occupying power or an authoritarian regime. Most well known examples today are collaborators in occupied France and other countries occupied by the Nazis in WWII. Collaborators may have some sympathy for the regime in power, but they often just collaborated for pragmatic reasons.

    • @davesmith9680
      @davesmith9680 Рік тому

      @@ZizouZico The reason I chose 'enemy' is because you are a patriot when your side is in power and become a collaborator when your side looses. Take the American Revolution, at the start we had traitors (those who supported the revolution) and patriots (those who supported the government). The government lost the battle and we wind up with the traitors becoming patriots and the patriots becoming collaborators.

    Yeah this universe this world it’s nothing but pain and suffering just honestly non stop mental anguish even in the game and if you look around the levels of the game it just gets so. much. worse. you learn of ppl who you never ever even meet hear see interact with and every time it’s just a wave of of depression each and every fucking time this universe is just so wonderfully tragic and leaves you with an agonizing sense of what if… what if this actually happened, truly an apocalyptic story like non other
