    Finally someone who recognizes that Tommy never asked Joel to come.

    5:15 Ellie was raised in a FEDRA base in the QZ for Orphans. She had very basic military training with basic fitness training. She wasn't older enough for the stuff that Joel & Tess know.

  • @Obligatedx9
    @Obligatedx9 Рік тому +14

    My point of view is that Ellie is absolutely a liability out in the wilds. Back in FEDRA’s military school in the quarantine zone she was only taught to be a loyal little soldier. She was never meant to leave the QZ, never supposed to encounter infected. She was only meant to apply control to the oppressed population and potentially fight a few human fireflies. Obviously she had some firearms training at FEDRA school, and obviously it wasn’t very good

      @demopem Рік тому +8

      And she's just 14, so the more serious side of her training, with and without firearms, had probably just begun.

    In the 2nd game, injured enemies would try to plea bargain with you. It would be the last enemy alive in the area. If you spared them, As soon as you turned your back on them, they would attack you.

    Trivia note: This episode is the show's version of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania level, but because the show is filmed in Calgary, Canada it doesn't look like Pittsburgh, so they changed it in the show to take place in Kansas City, Missouri.

    Trivia Note: In Part 1 & in the D.L.C. Left Behind, there are a few opportunities for Ellie to tell jokes in Optional Conversation moments in some of the levels, which is what Bella did as Ellie at the beginning & end of the episode.

    To repeat something I wrote in the previous reaction video: In the game, the outbreak began in 2013, but in the show it began in 2003. By changing it to 2003 it helps distinguish the show from the game in a couple of ways. 1 of which was having Tommy be a Desert Storm war vet since that wasn't part of his character in the game, but it gives some new development for his character in the show.

    Three things about this show which stand out and why its getting all sorts of acclaim.... 1) acting 2) side character acting 3) set design... Fk it 4) narrative

    Fun fact: The actor who played Perry, Kathleen's mountain-man bearded right hand soldier is the same one that did the original motion-capture and voice acting for Tommy in the original video game.

    Just to answer your question about the point of the game. I won’t say how it ends because that would spoil the show for you, I will just say that the motto
    “It’s all about the journey not the destination” captures perfectly the point and experience of the game/story. Wink

      @TerryYelmene Рік тому

      @cherswigmaker - I couldn't agree more with your 'journey', not 'destination', comment. And I'll add that people mistakenly think TLOU is a zombie show, when actually it's a show about love, specifically parental and family love.

  • @phaudraig
    @phaudraig Рік тому +1

    If I had to summarize the point of the game, I'd say it's about "the destructive power of love". And Part 2 is about the destructive power of hate.

    The B&F observations made here were among the best offered among the dozens and dozens of reacts I've seen before. Thanks, Anna!
    Having said this, please hold your misgivings about Ellie until her full life story is revealed throughout all of this season... much more will be filled in.... and she will seem much, much more ... more to you.
    Favorite Comments: "Dregs of Humanity" - "Life boiled down to raw sewage!" (more of this to come)
    Finally, Anna, I won't give hope for "light", but I will promise an intriguing "problem art" for you, in the end.

    Most importantly, Ellie is still very much a kid. I have a step kiddo close in age to her, and he still acts very similar in many ways to her. Just because she's immune, and thus so many responsibilities were placed upon her, we have to still remember that she's still a kid. She's never experienced the real world and wants to take in everything around her.

    I think Frank would have lived just as long. Obviously not as fulfilling alive, but still. It wasn't like he was a social butterfly before the apocalypse. He must have spent years building that Bunker. It was obviously his family home that he most likely spent his whole life in. It was outdated furniture and decoration and was probably all his mother's choices from years prior. It was until Frank had been there for a few years that you notice new furniture, brighter paint and Frank's art adorning the walls. But as Bill said in his letter to Joel, he hated the world,and was glad when everyone died. Also, he told him he was never afraid until he met him. Bill made it that far in his life without ever having a relationship and having to hide who he was. I think either way, he probably lived longer than he would have if there was no apocalypse. At least after it, there was no stress of having to hide who he was.
    As far as Ellie never being taught any survival tips. She was still just 14. She had never been outside QZ walls in her life. If she went beyond them, FEDRA did not want her to survive, and would in fact hang her if they found out she had. It seems she had just had very minimal firearms trying so far, and that even while growing up in a military school. Apparently all that type of traing would come when she was older. Even then, appeared most of FEDRA's responsibilities lie within the walls of QZs.

    In answer to your question towards the end of the video, the game is in the genre of Survival Horror. So, lots of scrounging for materials, hiding from enemies human, and infected. And, the game can also be reduced to one elongated escort mission (which is usually pretty annoying in video games. The NPC is usually very annoying to keep alive).

    What is the purpose of the game/story?
    I'll give you two answers, you can pick one?
    A: To kill the boss monster, prevail and take the treasure.
    B: To explore what it means to be human, heal wounds and find love.

    This is the beginning of an interesting arc in the story. Notice Joel is warming to Ellie and feeling less like she's "cargo." The pun book was a way to break through that tension between Joel and Ellie and to begin to forge something lasting. Next episode is going to be one you'll have your hands to your ears almost all episode. Buckle up Anna. The ride's about to get bumpy. You'll find out in episode seven about what happened to Ellie and who she had to kill. I want you to hurry up and release them all. I'm loving your analytical mind on this one. This show is so different as you've said. The Bill and Frank episode was so unlike the norm and the reason I'm addicted to this show. Pedro and Bella are just killing this, they're so good together.

    Really liked your comments on B&F last episode at the start of this one and I'm enjoying your thoughts on this series. I also never played the game, so I can't compare it, but overall I did really love this series because I think it does the exploration of Joel and Ellie (and Bill and Frank) and their inner emotional lives as human beings extremely well. That's the compelling part of the show, not the fungus zombies or the wasteland itself. Looking forward to the next one.

    Just responding to your bit at the start about episode 3. We're here to watch your reactions to stuff, not necessarily your predictions of the way the show will play out minute by minute. A lot of reactors do this, and maybe it's a self defense mechanism because they don't want the show they are watching to hurt them or make them cry or whatever. But it kind of spoils the genuine reaction when you spend the whole thing constantly predicting someone is about to die. Just watch and let the show happen on it's own terms, and try to let go of the baggage from other shows and what they have done to you and take each one on their own.

    In my head-canon, Tommy and Marlene are ex’s.
    And speaking of Tommy, Jeffrey Pearce (Perry aka Mr. Beard) was Tommy in the video games.

    I like this story because liking someone is hard to do and when you watch people react or talk about this show who and why they "like" someone says much more about the viewer. The show has the same issue most current shows have and it is not really a problem of the show but more a problem of viewers. We want the action or dragons or light saber fight or fight scenes. People tend to overlook the story that is actually being told. Good shows are second and third watch shows and most people don't do that. The fungus zombies are just not the main thrust of this show even though you are constantly on the watch for them. The story is about human relations and how the human race ends. In the game and you can see in the show nature is resurgent. Its just we are at an end and what if any of us will make it to the new world. The apocalypse is over. We lost.

    To answer what the point of the game is it is like this. They removed the gameplay mostly which is shooting zombies and raiders as Joel. They left in the story.

    I appreciate your opening comments on E3. I actually gave up on Game of Thrones because I felt that the leadup to the Red Wedding was inartfully done, and I did appreciate this episode's nuanced foreshadowing. Are we sure Joel is the strong one and Ellie is a liability? ...Or is this an "Ellie is Frank" situation?

    The first game's purpose is the same as the show -> to get Ellie to the Fireflies. But the real purpose of the game is the same as the show's -> a character study of Joel and Ellie and ____ (which I will tell you after the finale because otherwise it's a spoiler

  • @DavidGowers
    @DavidGowers 10 місяців тому

    To touch on Bill & Frank again, in the game you get to see what happens to Bill without Frank. Like, Frank is absolutely there to a degree, but we meet Bill after Frank has died - and he died differently - and what we see is a man who is angry at not just the world in general, but at EVERYTHING. The game also doesn't go into what their life together was like because it's focused purely on Joel & Ellie at this point. So it really just has Frank as kind of a footnote in Bill's story, which itself is kind of a footnote in the game's story, and only mentions in passing that they were partners.
    I kinda feel bad for Bryan, the guy Ellie shot at the start, because he IS kind of an idiot in that he was NOT prepared for the job he was sent out for. He really was still just a kid with no understanding of what it's really like to go out and kill someone.
    As for the point of the game, the end goal is to get Ellie to the Firefly base where they can use her immunity to help find a treatment for the rest of the survivors. The whole game is about surviving and fighting your way through to there.

    NO spoiler, just say that what they did with show compare to the game is working on human story more and fighting less. Not saying that their won't be any monster, but the show is not base on monster, it is based on humain going tru the end of the world. thank you for sharing.
