    Best XC tyre...
    I've been using RK Protection since 2014 front and rear. Fastest rolling tyre with best puncture protection .
    The model in 2015 was more bullet proof than current version but still the new version still offers way more protection than anything Schwalbe has to offer...
    Better than Maxxis exo too...
    And Im big fan of Maxxis enduro tyres!
    But for xc racing I always chose RK.
    Plain and simple the fastest rolling tyres combined with best puncture resistance...
    I hope the have plans to do 2.3 version in the future...

      Agree, older RK was 660g, the newest is 600g. That is way I prefer previous generiation. I hope this year Conti release new stronger one, because all the rest tires I rode, were slower.

      @@COOLBIKEyt You should/could try the Chaoyang Phantom Speed tires (not the wet/dry ones) and make a comparison with the RK. People use to say that they rode pretty much near the same.

    I really appreciate the video!!! Helped me decide on the ProTection, I'm happy to spend the extra money on tires. It was hard to finally decide on a new pair, my local shops have nothing and Canada's online shops are limited, but I can get Race King ProTections for 100 each.

      Unfortunately, the cheapest versions are often not straight. Try to straighten it with your hands. Turn the wheel, see where it is sticking out, deflate some air, and push the tire where it is necessary.

      Hi, Protection version weighs 600g, so you have to keep that in mind. But I wouldn't say it's paper-like. Of course, if you ride on larger rocks, XC racing tire is not a good choice.
      If you want something just a little bit slower, but much more resistant, I recommend Vittoria Mezcal or Pirelli Socrpion:

    Hi CoolBike. Curious... do you think the following is an error or do you have an idea what is correct? When visiting the bicylerollingresistance site now, the RR values are showning 15,5 at 25 psi and 14,5 at 35 psi, instead of the values in your screenshot 20,2 and 18,0. I was anyway wondering, that the RR for many MTB CX tires is shown as lower than many of the fast'ish Gravel bike tires.

    • @COOLBIKEyt
      @COOLBIKEyt  Рік тому +1

      Hi, now on the RR website, you can check resistances with inner tube and tubeless... it's a whole mystery :).
      14.5W and 15.7W are the results with 40ml of sealant, It wasn't like this before...
      Indeed, the rolling resistance of MTB tires is approaching Gravel. It is because gravel are using bigger tires like: 29x2.0 so 700x50 so ETRO 622x50, and they weigh 500-550g, and these Race Kings 600.

    I've read multiples review of people dissappointed by the low puncture protection of the proTection tubeless version, with leaks and air loss too, did you actually use them? Whats your experience? Appartently the last 2020 version is way weaker then the previous. I'm unsure which one to get these or the vittoria mezcal for my off road touring rig :/

    • @COOLBIKEyt
      @COOLBIKEyt  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately that's true, the 600g weight comes at a price. My girlfriend is riding an earlier version which weighs 660g and is much tougher. For this reason, I am riding now Mezcals TNT which weighs 719g, and I sold my RK Protection. It is a pity that they do not weigh around 660-700g, because they are faster than the Mezcal's.
