Amos is my all time favorite character of any piece of fiction. Love that you girls also love his character and care about his development, because his arc is truly one of the most emotionally resonant stories that just hits me on such a deep personal level🥲
The storytelling of his background was so incredibly well done - there was more detail in the books but the way they showed it, there didn’t need to be…
I'm really hoping they adapt the final 3 books to TV eventually, primarily for Amos' story. I mean everyone else has good stories too. But mostly for Timmy.
This episode adds a whole darker spin to the exchange between Amos and Avasarala where he's teaching her how to walk in mag-boots and she asks him how he knows what it's like to walk in pumps and he replies "I didn't always work in space".
Wow, it wasn't until this rewatch that I made the connection of what Lydia said to Timmy-about her not being righteous and wise, and asking him to imagine a version of her that is, so that he can listen (and how maybe that's enough for people like us)-and how it relates to [REDACTED TO AVOID SPOILERS]. The writing is so good!
Just read the Expanse Novelle “The Churn” and there are all the answers that aren’t in the show. Everything about Amos early life, Lydia and much more.
During that cabinet conference with Gao, one official mentioned there was a discrepancy in the accounts of the numbers of ships transiting the Ring. The Belters were counting fewer ships than Earth was sending. Sauveterre was talking to the cadets about controlling a thousand planets. I did think this sudden introduction of Avasarala's daughter Ashanti was strange. No, a daughter had not been mentioned before. A mother had never been mentioned, but Avasarala did at one point urge Arjun to "take the kids" to Luna. That would have been the time to say, "take Ashanti and the kids to Luna," but she didn't. There was no reason to think the kids' mother was dead...except that she was never mentioned when there was logical opportunity to mention her. The term "johns" refers to the men who patronize prostitutes. The "johns" are the customers.
S1E1: Arjun warns Avasarala while she tickles her grandson that he might wet himself. She says that's why it's great to be a grandparent - "I get to hand him off to his mother".
The show doesn't come out and say it, but Timmy and Lydia had a... not super healthy relationship. He was kind of her adopted child but also her lover. Obviously the rest of their environment wasn't great either. Still, it does put in context how Amos has difficulties determining the right path. Also some trust issues.
@@17thknight Man, having an appreciation for Avasarala is easy af, she is MAGNIFICENT, i was right there with Amos everytime he teased her. And thats the only older woman that he has shown interest
I love Amos! What makes his charcter so well written is that he doesn't change at all. all that changes is his guiding star shifted from Lydia to Naomie when we fist get to know him and now he has included Holden also.
Spoilers!! In the show, his ‘vibe’ stays mostly the same. But subtly, he goes from not trusting himself to be good at all (seen a lot in S1), to the exact opposite - *trusting himself enough to be a guide for someone else* (S6). He has similar cool Amos moments in all seasons, but he does have a defined arc! It’s a poetic arc and is elegant in its simplicity imo
I wish they had the budget and technology to really show how Gravity is on the moon. the authors have a great description of Gravity on Luna in the book, that "gravity is less a force of nature and more of a suggestion". A perfect description. They go on to describe Chrisjen as just "willing" herself up out of a chair and she's standing up.
I forgot how great this episode is. Interesting on all plots. I think they didn't kill Monica so they could find out where the leak is. Where she was getting her info
"Monica, can you hear me?" She can't, Holden, because you're holding her comms unit. But you could text her ocular implant, and she could receive it and send something back.
Oh my god. You mean I could have watched "Better Call Saul" and "The Expanse" with these amazing women had I found this sooner? It would be like I had friends!
Wow.... this was an emotional and painful episode. We as fans that follow reactors on this journey to this amazing show only wish that it speaks to you as much as it does to us. Well your reaction speaks for itself. Amos is my favorite character ever. Unfortunately I can relate to world he grew up in. I know it was difficult but necessary. I absolutely love your reactions to The Expanse! I almost want to apologize that this particular show doesn't get you as many views as others but we are honestly grateful that you both are invested so much! God I miss my show 💔 I miss my family 😭 Can't wait for " Mother!"
Lola. You wanted to see Amos' backstory. "The Churn". It really messed you up. Every scene with Amos had you sobing like a baby. I hope you got the answers you seeked or at least insight into them.
Was waiting for your reaction to this episode. One of my favorites from the whole series. Great reaction. Also, just fyi, it is pronounced "Eric" with a hard k sound.
"There was a button I pushed it" an autobiography by James Holden 😂😂
He pushes sooo many more buttons......in the last three books. Holden's arc is amazing
"There was a button. I pressed it," exchange is verbatim from the books. It's such a perfect encapsulation of Holden.
"You're just following your programming."
“Mother” is directed by Thomas Jane, the actor who played Miller.
"Johns" is a term for men who pay for prostitutes, so when "The Johns had no more use for him", it's because he was too old for the 'customers'.

One thing u need to know about Amos - he is covered in trophies.

There are so many of these lines, that Amos gives, through the first 4 seasons........easier to catch on a re-watch or in the books, its very dark.
20:35 In both the books and the show, this moment is the purest distillation of James Holden's personality.

man if Lola is already crying this episode for the Amos scenes the rest of this season is going to DESTROY her.

They did a very good job with Baltimore in this episode. The scene where Amos was first seen in Baltimore was one long shot from a drone.
helicopter, to a horizontal rig, to a handheld, but all basically one shot.....no drone.
Goddammit, you two made me cry with you, seeing Timmy and Charles in Baltimore

Oh the crew of Drummer's ship support each other alright o.O
It'll be an interesting reaction when they realise haha.
Cannot WAIT for the next few episodes
Drummer's second in command, the tall female belter, is Howard Hamlin's wife in Better Call Saul.
Damn. The face was so familiar...!

It took until Waterworks for me to realize that. She's great in both roles.

She was also the annoying civilian in the second Resident Evil movie (the ones with Milla Jovovich) .
