Wes Chatham's delivery was perfect in Amos's conversation with Charles. Amos at first unsure why or how he's upset him, trying to reach for something Naomi or Holden would say, deciding tea is probably safe because Charles brought it up, and finally back on ground he knew with "Stop packing." Back in season 1, I'm not sure Amos could have navigated that by himself.

Erich in the books also has a deformed limb (and undocumented street rats generally can't get proper healthcare dealing with things like that). Jacob Mundell (the actor) was specifically cast, and he's great.
To clarify his brief exposition of their shared past - they both worked for Amos Burton the mob boss (Erich was a data-forger, Timothy an enforcer) and developed a bro-ship in that time. For details on how that all ended up, read "The Churn".
Also, Frankie Faison (Lydia's apartment-mate) keeps appearing as a Baltimore resident in stuff, aka Commissioner Ervin from The Wire! And for the hat trick - he played Barney the orderly in the Silence of the Lambs, overseeing Hannibal Lecter in the mental institution...located in Baltimore.

If you'd read the books and seen the grief Clarissa was exposed to when she realized what she'd done, you'd like her more. She was a terrible, terrible person for the same reason Amos was -the horrific abuse she suffered as a child. It's why Amos was so instrumental in helping her survive. He normally doesn't give a shit about adults, but he recognized her pain. At some point in the books, there's a twenty year jump forward in time, and I think Clarissa was a member of the Rocinante for all that time, but we never got to experience it. I bitterly regret that and hold out a faint hope that the writers may fill that time gap someday.

Dan and Ty as writers is always great stuff BUT you should always get excited when you see Breck Eisner directing. He was our go-to, effectively in-house director who pushed us with Hollywood energy to eke out every dollar we could to put it onscreen.
Dan, Ty, Breck, and Jeremy Benning were easily the A-Team of the show. They pushed the crew to the limit in the very best ways (though some might have disagreed on certain nights). We had those who kept them in check (such as the mighty Lewin Webb, the supervising producer AKA pit boss on set). And I could go down a list of unsung heroes.
    Anyway, I digress.
Breck Eisner wanted every shot to be meaningful and kinetic or dynamic in service of the story. So, when see those oners, tracking shots, or whip-pans that make the show feel alive, you're probably watching a Breck Eisner episode. Occasionally, his enthusiasm got the better of him (there's a funny pre-viz story I'll only ever tell in person) or left us bone-tired but, ultimately, he delivered.
As these last two seasons play out, if you see his name, strap in. Because the juice is coming.

In the original short story "The Churn", Lydia is described as being middle eastern/Persian. Just like Avasarala. In that story, Amos and Lydias relationship was also sexual (inappropriate in normal society, but not for them in their insane lives in Baltimores criminal world). So when Amos hits on Avasarala on Luna in the last episode, he isn't just flirting. He is legit attracted to Avasarala, most likely because she reminds him of Lydia.

Your comment about his tattoo, this is why I enjoy reactions to this show so much. No matter how many times I've seen it there is always more that I have missed, and I'm so glad you brought this up. Amos's tattoo reads "timshel", which apparently is a Hebrew word meaning "thou mayest." The word is most notable today thanks to John Steinbech's novel East of Eden, but the translation comes from the story of Cain and Abel in the bible, the first sons of Adam and Eve. The word itself, thou mayest, implies a "come what may" attitude (to use another idiom); ya know, just like Amos. Bring it on, whatever may come through that door (or around the corners).
Since it is an indirect translation though, it has another meaning. In the story of Cain and Abel the word implies conquering of sin. (Had to dig out a bible to find it, Genesis 4, this is the standard american translation): "If you act rightly, you will be accepted; but if not, sin lies in wait at the door: its urge is for you, YET YOU CAN RULE OVER IT." This is huge for the deeper themes of Amos's character. He is a man who openly admits to allowing sin to creep in near the door, but he keeps it at bay by surrounding himself with people who make 'right" choices and that help him stay the course. All that said, the story of Cain leads to him killing his brother in anger and subsequently telling God he doesn't know where his brother could have possibly gone, "Am I my brother's keeper?" Interestingly though, God exiles Cain to become a wanderer and Cain complains that this will leave him vulnerable to be murdered by anyone, anywhere he goes. God then grants him some kinda transcendental immunity by saying that no one shall touch him or Cain "shall be avenged seven times." So is Amos's character Cain before killing his brother, when timshel is actually written, or is he Cain after killing his brother and being exiled?
(Don't know why I feel the need to include this, but I'm not religious. I do respect all ancient primary sources though, taken in context. Something else, skip ahead to Genesis 6 for the demi-gods of the bible, the sons of God who slept with the daughters of men, "they were the heroes of old, the men of renown.")

    (Churn spoilers, not show spoilers)
Erich needs Amos out of the city because of the stolen identity. If Amos gets found in the city the whole identity unravels and that has implications for Erich, as well, because he's the one who set it up. And because the real Amos Burton was a mob boss, a lot of the wrong people would be interested in that story and what really happened to the original Amos.

A point you might not have considered about Belters is that there are two types. One is the "deep space" Belters like Drummer, Marco, Ashford, and Naomi. They were born and raised in space ships or small stations. Ships are their home. They live in ships, marry, have children, and die in ships. The other kind of Belter is the "rockwala" kind like Prax, Lucia, and Miller. They were born on rocks. Their lives are on rocks. For them, a ship is a way to get from one rock to another. That difference has made much difference before, but we saw it with the Ganymede refugees (remember Drummer could not understand why they would risk death to live on Ilus), and it makes a difference to --jerks-- people like Marco.
At this point, The Churn will no spoil anything from the series, and it's a short read. You'll learn more about Erich if you read "The Churn." He's not Amos' true brother, but they went through stuff together. The actor actually has the same kind of disability as the character. I also had remembered that tattoo on Amos' arm, and I had the same thought you had, but I learned that's actually Wes' own tattoo.
Admiral Sauvetierre was very prickly with Alex. Martians are usually pretty petty, and Sauvetierre is more petty than most.
I think season 3 is most people's favorite season because it has two book finales, and these folk know how to write book finales.

the scenes with amos and the man who knew Lydia are powerful. But they're even more powerful when you contrast them to season 1 amos - in episode 2 of the show, he and Holden are fixing the outside of a ship, and amos says he couldn't think of a reason why, or why not, to throw Holden out into space, except that Naomi wouldn't like it.
Now he is displaying some level of compassion and selfless behaviour, and it happens all on his own. That's character development right there!

It’s important to note that he decided to see someone after remembering what he was told on the dock concerning people and who they are and what they’ve done not being all they can be. Amos, as you’ve been seeing came from a rough place and didn’t have the relationship tools most people have. But he’s been learning how to use/find those tools by surrounding himself with people he thinks have them. His growth over the seasons is amazing both as an acting achievement and a story arc.

I'll claim Season 4 as my favourite!
Our team has come into their own. They're respected (even begrudgingly) by people from all factions. They're comfortable in their own skin and openly play to their strengths. We get "real" Miller back. We get to see the eye of an angry god. We get to visit a whole new planet (or terror). We get Naomi's space rescue. We get to really say goodbye to Miller.
And we get a Western tale, complete with wide-screen solo face offs, an actual duel, frontier bars, and simmering glares across a fledgling town. Plus, some of the interiors of Ilus were filmed in a makeshift studio converted from a horse barn/stables that still kinda smelled like horses (well, horse poop).
Honestly, I loved working on Season 4. Felt like an adventure! And it looked gorgeous in the end.
Y'all can put that in yer pipes and smoke it.

My own thought is that the word isn't related to his name, but rather is 'Timshel', and is a biblical reference. My complete non-expert recollection is Timshel is related to humanity's ability to choose between good and evil. That always struck me as a concept that Amos embodies, and a lot of his dialogue about needing a moral compass in Naomi, not always knowing what is right with Pax, and his relationship to Lydia in this episode all seem to support that. At least in my own head. Might be way off base, but does explain the word without beind his name.
Now... is the name Tim / Timmy / Timothy related to that? Might be! Might not be!

I agree... I also thought it was the Hebrew word "Timshel". In short, Timshel gives people a choice on how to live their life. This choice is what gives life value. The ability to triumph or fail on your own. Not because something has to be one way or the other but because in the end, you made a choice for better or worse.

      Found this quote online...
It turns out that some of The Expanse cast member’s tattoos are actually Wes Chatham’s, and not cosmetics as many fans may have assumed. In fact, Chatham says his own tattoos have some relevance to Burton as a character.
“Well, yeah - you know that Amos is always in search of his morality. What is his line between good and evil. And a lot of the tattoos that he has are kind of stories that we created that are kind of like guiding symbols to him,” explained Chatham.
“And two of the tattoos that I have on my arm, not to be too specific, but they have something to do with morality. And that was just really in line with what we were trying to create, and that’s why we left those,” he added.

    • @kerouac.jackson
      @kerouac.jackson 2 роки тому +2

@@obelisk21 Yeah, the tattoo on Amos's arm read Timshel, which is a Hebrew word that translates to “Thou Mayest.” In the context of the biblical passage where it appears, it's closer to 'Thou mayest rule over sin,’ meaning that it's Cain's choice whether or not to sin (somewhere in Genesis, Chapter 4). The King James version of the Bible translates timshel to "Thou Shalt" so that difference is what makes it significant, and of course, the ability to choose not to sin would be significant enough for Amos to choose it as a tattoo.

This chapter was fucking beautiful Amos' backstory. Probably one of the slowest ones, but it was really nice setting things up for the next episode (and even for later episodes). The Lydia part was fine, but Bobbie and Alex always feels weird to me. I feel like the actress that plays Bobbie was resentful towards Alex's actor for the accusations of sexual harassment he had. I heartily recommend listening to "The Churn", part of a small novella that expands on Amos' background. You'll find it on the Memory's Legion audiobook.
The only way you could find a body in space is having it's exact trajectory and when it was ejected. The way to find things in space is my scanning for radiation - heat, electro-mag, or reflected light. A body is just a small icy rock. It's why it's so easy to smuggle in space, you can just leave stuff and chances are nobody will ever stumble across it.

At least 4 guys shooting and at least 2 guys reloaded 15+ round magazines twice. All pistols but at least one was high caliber. Sounded like at least a 10mm. Could have been a 44mag or even a 50. Everything else sounded like 9mm. I managed to see the last minute or so from my front porch. It was only a half block away. I could only see one group of shooters. A house was in the way of the other group. I don't know if anyone was hit. Both groups eventuality got in their cars and went in separate directions. Anyhoo the really sad part was the cops didn't even get to the scene for 20+ minutes. The story didn't make the evening news or the paper. I've lived in Baltimore on and off for 30 years. The violence is out of control. There's a shooting within 5 blocks every day/night. I can only imagine what this town will be like in 300 years. God help us all!!!
