    @steveland8014 Рік тому +2

    Great review and format!
    Regarding the suspension, the consensus of reviews seems to be to go with the 66lb spring, even for lighter riders if riding heavy bumps/jumps. Bottoming out only after longer sets of stairs, however, sounds to me like classic suspension “packing”, where the rebound damping is set too slow to allow the shock to return to its starting position between successive hits, and therefore the wheel ends up deeper and deeper in its travel with each stair hit and eventually bottoming out. Increasing compression damping can also reduce this effect, but at a tradeoff of comfort.
    Ideally, spring rate selection should be determined by static sag. The geared up rider at a standstill should be compressing 15-25% of the total shock travel. Comfort and bottom-out resistance are then tuned with damping settings.
    As a 170lb rider on the fence between 62lb and 66lb spring rates, I’m curious if a lighter rider (such as 100lbs) still gets any meaningful static sag at all with the 66lb spring? With too little sag, suspension performance and handling can also suffer.
    Thanks!

    • @2cells1pack
      @2cells1pack  Рік тому +2

      Regarding:
      - "packing" - the suspension bottoms out only on the last step. We have the rebound set pretty quick if you look at the closeup of the stairs shots
      - static sag - with christine on the 66lb patton, it still did sag. Sag on the 62lb was in the 30-35% range which IMO is too much.

    • @steveland8014
      @steveland8014 Рік тому

      Thanks so much for the reply! Agreed, 30+% sag is too much. Some empirical sag measurements were exactly the info I’ve been looking for. Now I can buy the 66lb spring with confidence.

Getting a heavier weight won't allow you to get as soft as it could be.

I also have s22 for the purpose that I would use this wheel for but, I do not like the small clearance that leaperkim did with this wheel, it's a shame as it seems like everyone is raving about the performance of this wheel. I simply could not buy it because of the suspension Leaper uses (cannot change it to something else) and the clearance on this wheel is so low... what do you guys think about this wheel for bigger guys like myself? I am 6'4" and 270 lbs without gear I I do jump and love trails!!!!! have you thought about testing the torque climbing vs ex30 or extreme maybe when it comes out, I know it is a bit unfair since this is a 16 inch wheel and everyone that researches knows smaller wheels make the same motor feel more torquey(sp) so that is one thing ppl need to remember. also, I think begode will make a new 16' wheel (extreme bull maybe) to face off vs this wheel LEAPERKIM put out) it does seem like begode /extreme bull want that performance crown. I would love to hear what you think as I really enjoy a bigger guy closer to my size riding and reviewing wheels (I am still waiting for my ex30 to arrive from china (batch 3) it will be here june Yay) Thanks in advance for your opinions and I look forward to what you think on a smaller wheel like this at speed of 70kmph or here in the USA 42 mph... how does it feel at speed ? So, you're 240lbs and still got 50+ miles? What riding mode? Normal or high speed mode? How does the 66lb shock handle your size and weight on jumps, trails, curbs, stairs? Bottom out often? How cushy of a ride is it? You mentioned it's easier to bottom out for heavier riders, but HOW much easier? Her riding the 66lb shock and it feeling pretty good on trails tells me I will need a heavier spring/beefier suspension like the Sherman S to not bottom out on around town, mtb trails, stairs, and occasional jumps that are 5-6ft drops, max. I'm 210/225lbs with gear @ 6'1, and think the Patton just doesn't have the suspension I NEED for my weight, especially for offroad and jumps. Although being a heavier rider, and having a small, zippy, lighter, torquier wheel will feel way cooler. The patton seems to have plenty of overhead and torque that taller and heavier riders can leverage the wheel hard and not worry about cut out. That is a bonus for me. And considering it's about the same speed as a sherman s (although not as stable), I can see this becoming my go to wheel for almost everything. But perhaps only on later versions with updates to beefier suspension with more travel.
    How does it compare to feel of Sherman S? Sherman I'm guessing feels more plush, but much more plush compared to Patton? Or like a 10% difference vs a 90% difference in ride cushiness?
    I'll have to test ride em for a day to get a really good estimate, but curious your experience between the two, especially for heavier riders.
    GREAT review. So thorough and straight to the point with objective data and and useful subjective experience too.

    • @2cells1pack
      @2cells1pack  Рік тому +1

      50+ miles of light riding (12-15mph avg speed) High speed mode.
      66lb definitely not heavy enough for my weight. Bottom out a lot. Super cushy ride though. You can definitely bottom out the wheel on your weight easily - watch my suspension setup video and I do show examples.
      The torque of the wheel, the playfulness of the wheel is what makes me forgive the lack in suspension stiffness. I still miss the wheel.
      At speed, the wheel is very stable.
      I haven't tested a Sherman S yet, so don't know about comparisons.

By then, I hope LK make the front handle higher, make the toe piece wider, have a better shape of the front bumper for better adjustability to workaround that screw head, and maybe have better headlights. And I’m not going to hold my breath but maybe they can improve on the Patton. But if they don’t, it probably won’t matter since I’m not into doing long stairs or big jumps.
