There are quite a few species of snake that will do this if they feel they are exposed when trying to feed. Indigo snakes in the US do this commonly when predating on larger rattlesnakes and move to cover to give them time to consume such a large meal.

Since it was in the middle of a road, getting away before being run over is the right move. I don't know if it understood that, or if was just by chance.

@@nejiskafir8198 I'm super curious about it as well. I used to have a snake and every now and then I would feed it an Anole lizard. In a small area such as in a 10 gallon tank, I'm pretty sure it was able to see it well enough to find, kill, and consume it. It struggled a bit and the lizard had to move for it to be able to see it, but man, that snake was ruthless when it finally did. Scent could have been a huge factor too, but it would flip straight into attack mode once it actually saw something small running around in its feeding tank (cold or warm blooded).
Eventually I got to the point that I couldn't stand live feeding anymore (and he wouldn't eat anything aside from live prey), so I gave him away to a local reptile lover and pet store owner. But I have been curious about how exactly he would see those lizards ever since.

Like snakes, chameleons are cold-blooded reptiles and hence cannot produce their own body heat. It may have been warming itself on the asphalt, just as snakes do sometimes. Knowing that, maybe the boomslang was staking the place out -- just waiting for an easy meal. What's amazing is the first few frames where the boomslang is lifting about 4 ft. of its body straight up like a periscope watching its prey! It's so cool how it puts it's whole body into reverse without taking its eyes off the camera person (who the snake is clearly watching), then it does that incredible 180 lunge into the brush... that wasn't slithering... that was some Fast and Furious driving there!

Animals eat meat for survival, obligate carnivores can’t go without meat and omnivores like bears generally prefer other sources of food and use meat as a rare complement. Humans? We raise cattle for the sole purpose of killing and eating them, wasting thousands of pounds of meat every year and destroying our planet. Raising cattle is extremely polluting and the meat and dairy industry is responsible for a large portion of human pollution. Wild animals hunt because they need to, and if every human HUNTED instead of buying prepackaged meat I can assure you most people would go vegan too. We’ve grown desensitized to the process of taking a life to feed our own. And this, to most vegetarians and vegans, is horrible. When you’re aware of the death you cause by eating meat, and I mean AWARE, you just shut it down. It’s horribly painful to know your existence has caused the suffering and death of other innocent beings for the sake of pleasure and efficiency…

Great video, so much so I had to look up up the "Boomslang" or "Dispholidus typus." I'm more intrigued by the disposition of this snake VS "Crotalus scutulatus" or "Green Mojave" by the locals. It's disposition is the total opposite of the Boomslang, hence the "green" in the name. This snake actually chased me down when I happened upon it in the Mojave desert once.
