- This boomslang was caught off guard when the chameleon he tried to eat actually turned the tables on him and fought back!

The remarkable sighting was captured on camera by 62-year-old Brian Abrahamson during a safari in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. Brian, the owner of Bridev Construction, documented the extraordinary scenes on the Maroela Loop. He shared the footage and sighting with LatestSightings.com.
"We were driving along the Maroela Loop; the scattered Maroela trees provide an amazing backdrop and just give one a tranquil feel. As we took a bend, there was a car stopped on the roadside. My heart raced! What could it be? The gentleman in the other vehicle waved us down and showed us a boomslang hunting a chameleon in a tree that was right next to the road.”
“I was with my close friend Peter, and we decided to stay and watch what was going to happen next. Initially, the boomslang looked like it had the flap-necked chameleon cornered. But the chameleon decided it was not over and began fighting back.”
“The chameleon, surprisingly quick and agile, fought back fiercely, biting the underside of the snake. It even changed colors, shifting from lime to dark green, perhaps to confuse its attacker."
Above them, a brown snake eagle hovered, waiting to seize an opportunity. It was, however, being mobbed by two beautiful lilac-breasted rollers, adding a whole different excitement to this already very captivating sighting.
"The turning point came when the boomslang paused its attack, sensing the eagle overhead. The snake was cautious, afraid of becoming prey itself. But as soon as the eagle left, the snake struck the fatal blow, biting the chameleon below its flap right into its open mouth."
"The eagle returned, perching on a nearby knob thorn tree. Sensing this, the snake quickly vanished into the grass, leaving the dead chameleon hanging in the dead tree."
"Always be patient and watch out for the smaller interactions among animals in the bush. Such moments, though often overlooked, can be as thrilling as any big game sighting."

😢
Yeah, but up against a boomslang he had little chance :(...
...can we have one minutes of silence to pay respects to mr Chameleon. ..RIP mate.
He was outmatched but he fought head on regardless of the threat. He died with dignity.
He didn't die.
@@ChiefsWin316 It obviously was dying from venom.
Don't worry honey badgers will avenge you
@@azmagaref It looked tired to me and so did the snake.
@@celestialbeing5291the snake is venomous, the chameleon definitely died
Damn that ending was rough, he was on his way out. At least he put up a fight.
This is a stone cold lesson for the other chameleons to not go neon yellow on a grey tree
After a reconsider, he might have known there's no easy way out of this and he changed to that color in order to appear toxic and possibly scare the snake off.
Do you believe they will watch this video 😂😂😂 ?
@@JamesMichael333 Not true at all. most snakes see in both the blue and green spectra, and some, like sea snakes, can also see oranges and reds.

It's nature. The snake is hungry, but I feel sad for the beautiful Chameleon 😢
The snake is probably still hungry because it left the chameleon as soon as it saw an eagle.
@@iminzayn5442 The eagle is probably still hungry because the snake left. I'm probably still hungry because I didn't see the eagle so I couldn't catch it.
That snake can't eat it . It is too large .it is not python to swallow anything

Btw, you're cringe. 😂
What type of snake was it?
soo crazy how you can see the venom taking hold of the chameleon…the camouflage changes as he loses control of his lower limbs first, followed by the rest of his body until it slowly stops his heart…wow. he fought hard, RIP.
I don’t really see his camo change. Maybe i have to look harder

👩:“I can’t believe he didn’t cry during titanic! Do men even have feelings?”

Incredible how nature's survival instincts manifest in these battles, but isn't it a bit brutal?
No men don't have feelings. Straight lie. Yes, we cry.

That's a Boomslang! Amazing snakes! 🐍
I thought it was a Mamba until I got a better look
Maybe a boomslang , maybe a Rhamphiophis ...
Snakes eating chameleons? Never liked a snake, never will.
Wholeheartedly agree. People are sick.
You don't like a snake for trying to live?
What's the snake supposed to do go to the store and buy some fresh groceries? Get a grip
It's not supposed to. Same way, I'm not supposed to like it...
Snake has to eat too
I used to raise and sell Jackson’s chameleons in Hawaii back in the 1990’s. Those Jacksons were lucky Hawaii is snake free, they loved it over there. In Africa there’s all those venomous snakes and chameleons have absolutely no defense against them. They’re cool reptiles and fun to keep as pets
They are an invasive species there, just like the mongoose. When I lived there, my room mate had one. I don't even remember where he got it, but it got really sick probably from my friend smoking weed and cigarettes in the room where he kept it. It stopped eating, so one day we went for a hike and released it into the wild. I took a picture of it and still have it. They are cool, but really fragile pets.
Mate, snakes are not out there to decimate chameleons. If that happens, they are starving themselves out. Interaction like the one in this video is actually example of co-dependence. Snakes get food (and then other predators similarly control snakes) and chameleon population gets controlled-balance reached. And Hawaii, nah, they compete with local birds for food (insects).
@@kychen4738 I never said snakes were out to exterminate the chameleon population in Africa. I just said that chameleons don’t have much defense against a snake attack. They don’t have much defense against any predator for that matter since they move so slowly. But you’re right, nature balances everything out, and chameleons have survived for ages in Africa, so they’re doing something right
@@ICTS22 you’re right, the mongoose and Jackson’s are both invasive in Hawaii. And they can definitely be fragile. Back then you were allowed bring them to the mainland on passenger airplanes in a carry-on which would be unheard of now. I’m just glad nobody released venomous snakes in Hawaii 😅
Never go down without a fight
That's one cute snake. Especially the tongue flicking and head weaving at the end.
Chameleon didn't really stand a chance, but was more nimble than I imagined.
In the wild, every day is a battlefield, and only the fittest warriors endure the challenges of the untamed world.
True, some of the other viewers don’t seem to understand.
Even the fittest fall victim. It's purely a random odds game.
You can see the toxin taking effect, as the Chameleon kept losing its grip.
Where ever you are and what ever you do: Keep on fighting!
The chameleon is definitely not a coward; a good lesson for many of us who easily give up
Its hard to win when one enemy has debilitating venom
That was a beautiful chameleon.
True
Glad to see the chameleon fighting back.
Chameleon: "I fought the good fight!"
The chameleon tried very well , at least he fought like a lion , could it be he has poison also.
No he don't!
Glad your back Jeff! Praying for your health. Nice welcome back cat you caught. Dope hat too 👍
what a legend bro was fighting with hs eyesclosed
I'm amazed by the strength of these animals, yet I wonder if it encourages aggressive behavior among viewers.

chameleon fought well - but was just outgunned
Poor chameleon.. you can see how that venom was taking its hold though. She fought hard to the end though but basically could not escape and judging from where it had choosen to hide out zero camouflage visually.
@@Justin-qw8osno clue lmao
@@Justin-qw8os I'm not 100% sure tbh but I know some species of chameleon like the Yemen chameleon, they are sexual dimorphic.. the males have much exaggerated head crests than females and I think the females tend to be more oval in body shape overall which certainly looks case here. But again it just a guess.

Deadly catch this is. 😮😮
People gasp for air in the wild…like it’s a Disney Sing A Long. This is nature
That was a hell of a dramatic ending
Although the chameleon likely succumbed to the venom in the end, if you look closely, it was also impaled by a thorn immediately after biting the snake, which is why it was unable to move on the branch at the end.
That was one beautiful Chameleon. It was so sad to see its life slowly fading away. I hope it lived a good life.
Chameleon never read the color changing handbook
Poor Chameleon. It looked so cute while it was dying though like it was sleepy and taking a nap.

Although this is sad, you can really tell how intelligent that boomslang is, they're incredible snakes
Eye catching vid with many good comments - at first I thought the snake would have scurried off against a fighter…
Does anyone know what that bird is that's calling incessantly in the background? It sounds so familiar.

I don't understand how the person stopped recording after what I read in the description? Unless the video was cut and they never released the full thing... C'mon, doesn't make sense someone would just stop recording the scene taking place??
Unfortunately women tend to end filming abruptly due to their emotions. It's why BBC and NatGeo hires men cameras.
He died on his feet and fought a losing battle to the bitter end.
F.
Rest well, King.
What happened? Did he eventually die?
That’s a sad ending. The chameleon put up a good fight while he was wounded
The Chameleon wasn't going out without a Fight, He Ain't no Punk
Among many animals, chameleons feels like they were built unfairly wrong. They have the will and determination to fight but they just weren't built with the weapons to at least defend themselves.
I bet the snake will remember that chameleon for ever what a bite .
Belo registro😮
Not only was the snake venomous, but it looks like it ripped open that chameleon quite a bit.
Boomslang venom contains powerful neurotoxins, the chameleon was doomed from the first bite.
All I see here is Mr Rango trying to take a nap from Miss S deadly kiss.
Did the chameleon survive or not? He was very brave nonetheless
No. Read the Description.
He dead
Even if you don't read the description he got bit multiple times by a venomous snake, what do you think? 😂
@@Atrus999 there are plenty of animals that are immune to snake venom. Some lizards have enough resistance that increases their survival.
@@cjzanders5430 Is that relevant at all in this situation?
In a different tree... Maybe the outcome would have been different. Hard to move quickly (even chameleon speed) through briars!
stand proud Charmeleon, you're strong
That crocodile sound like a woman gasping 😂
Are the dark areas on the chameleon a result of the venom? Can the boomslang swallow the chameleon whole?
I hate it when the video ends without letting us know if the snake got his meal.
CHAMELEONS ARE WE THE BOOMSLANGS (SNAKES) PRIMARY PREY SPECIES
Why couldn't you help that chameleon?
Po' chameleon. He said, "Imma bite'cho ass back!" He did the best he could.
