The Air Force had the option to enhance its existing aircraft. Boeing has shown that the F-15 still has potential, offering versions with stealth capabilities and increased missile capacity. The Israeli Defense Forces have invested heavily in the F-15, using it alongside, but not replaced by, the F-35s, indicating their high regard for maintaining air dominance. Since its introduction in 2005, the F-22 has been recognized as the most advanced air superiority fighter globally. Despite not having engaged in combat, experts agree that it surpasses any current rival. Its killing capacity is primarily limited by its missile load.
However, consider a scenario where the F-22 was never developed. The Raptor, like any sophisticated technology, experienced setbacks, and in 2009, these issues justified halting its production. Had these problems been worse, or had the U.S. decided that the Raptor didn’t align with its strategic goals, what would have been the outcome?
