One of the most rewarding trilogies* I've ever read! I think Stephenson has to be one of the greatest authors (certainly of sci-fi, possible of any genre) alive today. I appreciate his uncommon ability to build a world/universe with many many, many interesting and unique characters, rather than the usual trope of small, core group whose fate, seemingly, controls the universe (although I admit, using real historical characters takes some of the heavy lifting off his shoulders 😉). * A trilogy in four parts, if _Cryptonomicon_ is included (which it should be!)
my sister loves that trilogy so much it's on my immediate TBR. I've read four Stephenson books so far and can't wait to get to Quicksilver. I loved Against the Day by Pynchon which was full of "what was the point of all that" side plots, digressive conversations, and a million characters. I sometimes really love maximalist writing, so hopefully this book will be more up my alley than it was for you. How did you get along with the other books?
I haven’t read them yet. Plan is to read one per year so probably get to the second one next January. Hope you enjoy them! It definitely had good stuff in it
Hmmmm interesting... a little disappointing! I picked this one up maybe 9 months ago on recommendation of a... well he's not really a booktuber lol -- Jeff Cannata of the DLC podcast. He's been doing video game stuff for many years but recently started a bookclub deep diving Malazan (if you search DLC Bookclub you'll see their videos). Anyway he loves this book and I grabbed it from my local bookstore in a haul. This exact edition by the way! Haven't got around to it yet, and still will... but I have a feeling I'll probably like it the same as you. Mixed bag makes sense. But hey, nice maps! And big floppy book appreciation!! I kinda hate hardcovers nowadays lol, give me a proper MMPB or TPB any day :D
@@NevsBookChannelI think so! For some reason I always get Neuromancer and Snow Crash mixed up… trust me I know that doesn’t make any sense… but I know for sure I’ve read Neuromancer and liked it, and I THINK I read Snow Crash and liked it… but both woulda been 20+ years ago so idk man, I don’t remember that shit anymore 😂 Unhelpful answer I know but I am hopeful I’d like Stephenson’s stuff in general!
@@slidenaway understandable. I’m pretty hazy on what happened in Neuromancer as well! I can highly recommend Cryptonomicon - the ending is so-so but the rest of the book is great!
Your UA-cam video content is so good. However the video does not get many views. Because your UA-cam channel has some problems. Do you want to know about the problems?
This is act 1. The “first 200 pages of Anathem” if you will. It puts the characters on the stage and sets them in motion. The full story is…wonderful.
That’s what I’m hoping for! Thanks for commenting

So true. I love the guy and his other books. I’m hoping I like the next books more than the first. Thanks for commenting!
@@NevsBookChannel It's a slow burn, but the warmth will persist :)
