The level of detail he goes into games is astonishing, but of course the real masterclass was in the 2nd leg at the Nou Camp defending the lead for over an hour with 10 men. By far the sweetest defeat of his career
Spot on. But that refereeing was absolutely disgraceful to begin with. To this day it felt like a blatant opportunity to show favouritism to one side which continued on for almost a decade, and thus the name Uefalona was born.
This is the season Pep started to use Messi as a false 9 dropping between the opposition midfield and defence to devastating effect, listening to how Jose created a game plan to tackle that is music to my ears
That's no excuse. He also keeps claiming his fame with Porto where he won CL with a team of no-ones. This united back-line is also a group of no-ones. He says what suits his agenda.
Eduardo Soares His team used effective defensive tactics to set up counters. I don’t use defensive as an insult, I use it because Jose’s football can be described lots of ways, marauding isn’t one.
You don't see these types of videos so often on YT. Managers rarely talk about their tactics and focus more on motivational quotes. Thank you for uploading Mou's masterclass. GOAT of managers , the man who defeated tiki-taka system!
Mourinho only lost because he was very new in real madrid back then, unlike Pep in barcelona who was already familiar with his players because he was in barcelona ever since.
Tell Guardiola to beat the Champions league with Porto or Inter Both great in their leagues but not that great internationally...with old players and not depending on individual talents
Even as an Arsenal Fan I don’t care about how his reigns ended at Madrid, Chelsea (2nd Time), Man United & Spurs. His Inter Milan reign alone is truly genius and masterful. Truly an artist.
For Jose to succeed, he need players who don’t care about their stat and care only about winning no matter the way. I think that’s he’s biggest issue now with the modern football. I wish he stayed longer with us at Inter. 🖤💙
He picked players in Porto when he had low budget based on their psychological qualities. Not looking for fancy names, just wanted strong mentality. I think he needs to be the one picking the players and having scouts working on these traits.
Actually this proves what Mourinho said once ”I don’t coach football players, I coach football teams” With that inter team back then shows how perfect this team was, leading to winning the triple their perfect communication and their amazing qualities providing a fabulous football harmony proving that they are one of the best teams in football history. ( Many people believe that Mou is over, just give him a team with a spirit and you’ll see. Don Jose will always be the boss, grew up on Jose at Chelsea, some of the best and most balanced systems i've seen till this day. Alot of fans don't get the importance of balance. What he did at Inter was incredible as well, but his most underrated and underappreciated work was he did at Madrid, lightning counter attacking football probably the most dangerous teams of the last 10-15 years
As an amateur I always appreciate his Madrid team more than Barca cuz you can actually coach that Madrid counter attack and boy were they efficient often with just 3 players it was mind boggling. Barca's style is much more difficult given the counter pressing and activating your fullback to that degree.
@Stanislas Houston ...not at all. he only needs the backing of the club and the players to want to win. he dominates klopp and pochettino ...he tames guardiolia time and again when no other manager can.
@@friendly1870 I would give that to Clough, because he did more with less (I don't think anyone else will ever take two teams from the second tier to champions again), but the Special One is on the short list.
Mourinho won a CL with Porto and a treble with Inter. Guardiola won two CLs with a Barcelona team that had Messi as well as Xavi and Iniesta at their peak. Enough said.
Guardiola picked a team that the prior season had finished third in the Spanish league, after Villarreal, and 18 points behind Real Madrid, which is only the biggest distance ever between Real Madrid and Barcelona. That's the team Guardiola inherited, with 'Messi and Xavi and Iniesta at their peak', as you said. And with that team which had ended the league behind Villarreal and 18 points behind Real Madrid, Guardiola had some of the best seasons not only in Barcelona's history but in modern football's history. Also, when Guardiola moved to Germany and to England later, he also broke different all-time records in both countries (winning the league most matches before the end of the competition with Bayern, making the most points with Man City, etc) and at the same time Mourinho was getting sacked by various teams and some years he was winning nothing at all with clubs that were making the same investments as Man City (Man United), but of course you were not interested in mentioning any of this, since it doesn't help your argument too much, does it?
@@jvjjjvvv9157is easier to break records in so dominant teams and with unlimited budget. Mou error was trying to stay in England especially in Tottenham but he won European title with humble Roma. He is the best, learn football before commenting.
@@craigevans5842 Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, and Zanetti.. Holy shit if you check their wiki all of them are said being regarded as one of the best players in their position, no wonder Inter was a terror back then.. Also Inter only "spent" around 20.8 millions euro on them (16 millions on Samuel and 4.8 millions on Maicon), Lucio was free transfer at that time iirc and i forgot Zanetti but since he was young player and it was 1995 i guess it wasn't that much either. This is why Mourinho needs to work more with passionate players instead of spoiled superstars.
Diego Milito that season put in one of the best striker's performance I've ever witnessed. His ability to hold onto the ball while being surrounded by 2 or 3 defenders and then to bring his other teammates into play was just phenomenal. Not to mention how clinical he was infront of goal; scoring the winning goal in the Coppa Italia final, winning goal to clinch the Serie A title on the final day of the season and double against Bayern in the UCL final.
He is a fantastic strategist. Saw a couple of videos of him predicting the opponents movements and giving the team direction. The problem though i see often in the videos, the team either doesn’t want to follow his instructions or simply don’t have the ability to follow.
The way Jose explains it looks easier and you can understand. But talking is one thing and performing this in front of 70K of people is another thing. Genius!
I'd put that Inter team against any team...ever. They're easily a top 10 team ever even if they didn't have the flashiest tactics. Militio and Sneijder, two ballon d'or seasons. Eto'o, one of the greatest strikers ever. Pandev. Zanetti and Maicon, two of the greatest defenders ever. Lucio and Julio Caesar, two outsanding players. Super underrated squad.
You for me sir is one of the finest managers the world has ever seen. You are one of my most favorite coaches for what you did at porto, chelsea, inter and madrid. You are a truly a breaker of chains
chelsea stopped them before but the ref and uefa decided they don't want an english final again, i don't understand why people don't say the 2009 chelsea was better than barca when they outplayed barca so hard.
@@siliconista You can't judge taking into account that Barcelona played for a long part of the match with 10 men because of a referee mistake. Despite that they managed to score in the last minute. After that in the final they outplayed the same Manchester United that had won the premier that year and had humiliated Chelsea with a 3 - 0 on January. I'm sorry but you won't erase or manipulate the fact that the Barcelona from 2008 to 2012 was very superior to all the football teams of that time and is one of the 3 best teams in the history.

What a team Inter had. Julio Cesar, one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Maicon and Zanetti, two of the best full-backs in the world. Samuel and Lucio, two of the best central defenders in the world. Cambiasso and Motta, two of the best central midfielders in the world. Sneijder, one of the best attacking midfielders in the world. Milito and Eto'o, two of the best forwards in the world. Leading them was one of the best coaches in the world. That Inter team would eat the current Juventus side for breakfast.
Zanetti also played as pivot midfielder during Mourinho's reign, a link between Cambiasso, Stankovic, Sneijder and both full-backs. The full-backs could be sometimes Chivu (Left) and Maicon (right).
Actually before the CL that season, inter not the main favorite to win the tournament. They were behind Chelsea, Barca, Bayern etc. Most of their squad are already there before and they always failed to win the CL. After the won it, they become legend, so i appreciate Mourinho the most. After mou step down, Benitez with the same squad failed to win anything and this great Inter who win the treble began their collapse.
@@ya14hool65 He still managed to help Inter winning a couple of derby matches, but 2010 Inter was getting old in 2012-13 and overall they had declined so much.
He was given a lot of money to spend. I'm not a fan of Ed Woodward but I don't blame him for refusing to shell out massive amounts of money for Maguire, Willian and Perisic.
Total commitment, belief in the managers tactics and the squad, a high level of football intelligence and strong understanding of the opponent was also imperative. Peak Inter, Peak Mourinho.
They call him defensive, I call him adaptable. Often he's steered underdog teams with players of lower quality than the opposition or mostly succumbed to poor backing by the board he worked under.
The players that are commited and care, Mourinho will bring them to the top and will help them reach their limit. Players which don't care and don't have the motivation - no one can help them.
(Eto - Sneijder - Pandev - Miltio) vs ( Pedro - Ibrahimovic - Messi ) .. & people think Inter are the one's with a purely defensive mindset. As Mr Herrera said coaches/people often forget about the high attacking emphasis in catenaccio ).
Players these days are different than like 5-10 years a go. Many players, especially these "superstars" think that they are above the Coach/Manager. Mourinho is still genius, but he need players who have total submission to him & follow his orders exactly to what he said to them.
May I make a comparison to another sport? Greg Popovich. Both have reputations as fantastic X's and O's managers/coaches, but also as egomaniacs. They run a system that runs incredibly well if players are willing to put the team over all else, and generate a sense of control that many players can find constrictive, which is why some players are repelled. The difference? For almost 20 years, Popovich had a superstar in Tim Duncan to enforce that culture of submission and trust in the coach and President of Basketball Operations (He's essentially occupied both positions since I was born). The thing is, football players move more than basketball players. If Mourinho had one superstar to enforce his position at one club, maybe Chelsea, would he have moved as much as he did? Or is his confrontational style with boards and players alike doomed to repeat a 3-4 year cycle? I don't know the answer. I'm not expecting anybody to know the answer. It's just something to think about, and potentially, spark a discussion on how this might affect this man's legacy.
Love the preparations around transitions. There’s a strong element of military precision to these preparations. The awareness. The timing. The element of surprise. The ability to control a situation calmly when under pressure. 👍🏾

mourinho needs to bring this 433/4312 mix back, Tuchel tries to mix too many formations and has done somewhat well but not nearly as well at the level Mou does Mourinho controls games without dominating possession, my ideal philosophy is like this in games where the opposition can hurt, genius coach
Exactly!! Mourinho is an intelligent manager. I think him going to PSG will be brilliant on so many levels. He can build a good defensive foundation while giving players like Neymar and Mbappe to do damage on the counter. I think Mourinho is a manager whose tactics are well suited to the UCL rather than Pep. If you look at Real Madrid the team that won the UCL in 2014 was made off the foundations left by Mourinho.
@@lev231 yeah it certainly was, people like to credit Pep for the Germany WC etc but ignore influences where it's more difficult to see, everyone who idolises Pep's philosophy doesn't want to acknowledge someone like a Mourinho, if there is anyone else, who goes to a sort of route one of football, minimising control without desire for possession, but holding the utility to punish top sides at the highest level, with usually a focus for maximising players' value whether they were that good or not maybe it's why so many coaches speak greatly of Mou as opposed to Pep - one will do anything to better his system, the other depending on their talent are trusted to perfect said X system I'd like Mourinho to take on Monaco, PSG is too easy
This is why the Champions League is amazing. These tactical masterclasses between managers and players at the highest level. You can do these kinds of one-off tactics and win the battle.

"His tactics are defensive". You can't really destroy Barcelona by being defensive, especially in a game you won 3-1.
defensive? wow... you need to see him on Porto then... i mean... it was Porto nothing special... but we demolished the champions
Eduardo Soares His team used effective defensive tactics to set up counters. I don’t use defensive as an insult, I use it because Jose’s football can be described lots of ways, marauding isn’t one.
Zanetti was one of the best defender/midfielder of his generation. Not to mention how many games he played and how consistent he was.

Even as an Arsenal Fan I don’t care about how his reigns ended at Madrid, Chelsea (2nd Time), Man United & Spurs. His Inter Milan reign alone is truly genius and masterful. Truly an artist.
It all started with him saying "I think im the special one" and even his opponent years later know he is the special one.

Don Jose will always be the boss, grew up on Jose at Chelsea, some of the best and most balanced systems i've seen till this day. Alot of fans don't get the importance of balance. What he did at Inter was incredible as well, but his most underrated and underappreciated work was he did at Madrid, lightning counter attacking football probably the most dangerous teams of the last 10-15 years
Don Jose??
He's not spanish.
The Greatest Manager Ever.

Players these days are different than like 5-10 years a go. Many players, especially these "superstars" think that they are above the Coach/Manager. Mourinho is still genius, but he need players who have total submission to him & follow his orders exactly to what he said to them.
Exactly
Correct , bro 👍
It's just something to think about, and potentially, spark a discussion on how this might affect this man's legacy.

yeah it certainly was, people like to credit Pep for the Germany WC etc but ignore influences where it's more difficult to see, everyone who idolises Pep's philosophy doesn't want to acknowledge someone like a Mourinho, if there is anyone else, who goes to a sort of route one of football, minimising control without desire for possession, but holding the utility to punish top sides at the highest level, with usually a focus for maximising players' value whether they were that good or not
maybe it's why so many coaches speak greatly of Mou as opposed to Pep - one will do anything to better his system, the other depending on their talent are trusted to perfect said X system
