It would be pretty awesome if Lois and Clark took billy under their wing, not just because he's a superhero but because he's a kid in need of a healthy environment, mean the allowed to stay at their house often and provide things for him, growing up with Jordan and Jonathan would be a very great thing for him through their shared experiences as well as open up a lot of potentially great storylines.
I have to say, I kind of love the idea of Superman going to *The Wizard Shazam* of all people. He's just one of those figures I mentally file away as "pure backstory not really part of it" so it feels kinda like Superman breaking the script or... something. It's hard to explain, but it's fun. Also I just like Superman caring so much. He's a sweet guy, he cares a lot, and too many intepretations don't give that enough weight.
Especially since technically the wizard could "deal" with superman. Superman weak to magic.. in fact has zero resistances to magic. sure he can heal fast from the damage but he can be magically imprisoned. and even as fast as superman is... if the wizard snaps his fingers and dumps superman at the edge of the universe... at the leading edge of time and space... it would take superman.... millennia to get home.
It does feel a bit like superman knocking in the door of the comic writer and demanding to know why he's writing such awful things happening to the poor kid.
to quote the old meme: kids, don't be like billy. if a man you've never seen before in your life visits your home (especially when it is in a bad neighborhood), tells you straight up he's not with social services, and starts undressing, run! in 99.9% of cases it unfortunately isn't superman revealing his iconic symbol to show you he's there to try and help you through your trauma. quiet the opposite, actually.

Because Bruce actually looks after the kids he takes in. He makes them his legal wards, lets them stay in his house, allows them to attend school and he's around to guide them. Alfred is also there to act as support. The Wizard bestowed Billy with his powers and then left him to his own devices. A child shouldn't be given that much power without some form of training or guidance, especially when said child is an orphan who's living on the streets to survive. Billy was also acting as a hero by himself until the rest of Marvel Family got their powers later on.

Superman asking "who did this to you?" is the purest distillation of the concept of Tranquil Fury, he is so angry that he's calm. Which is terrifying given what Supes can do when pushed, and the Wizard Shazam having the stones to try and justify his robbing a kid of his childhood... he's truly lucky Superman does NOT think he is a god and should pass down judgment like one. Otherwise, magic or no, Wizard Shazam would quickly understand terms like "relativistic speed" and "explosive decompression". Yeah Superman isn't immune to magic; but that means little when you see lightspeed as a casual exercise pace, and regularly tango with gods of the New and Grecian variety.

Yeah but its still crazy. Because its not even just powers, his empowerment literally changes him mentally and emotionally by granting him wisdom that his kid brain struggles to process at times. It must be like constantly having an adult whispering in your ear telling you what is and is not a good idea. And despite HAVING that wisdom, he is still a freaking KID. With all sorts of emotional and mental issues that being a foster kid at that age can bring. So no, he doesnt always listen to that voice. And it probably means he feels 10x worse when he screws up because he had the right answer being in his head the whole time and chose something else because his teenage mind couldnt rationalize the right choice in the heat of the moment. I can kinda relate. I have adhd and when I was a kid, i was on meds to help control it. While on the meds i could feel myself losing control when something was going wrong and I was about to snap. I had that voice telling me to chill out and take a breath or do something different and at times it was SO HARD to listen and I often felt like garbage afterwards when i didnt and got into way more trouble than I would have if I had listened to that inner voice. Honestly, when done properly, the entire idea of shazaam as billy batson is so interesting and so much can be done with it that he is a fascinating character.

And then some dark magic users split the world into two dimensions, one with adults and one with children and he was the only one that could go between both. Of course Batman knew and apparently Wonder Woman was really unhappy about it after they brought his membership into the Justice League into question

Superman DOES confront Shazam, the old wizard, AFTER he discovers Captain Marvel is really a young boy.
Stories like this are why I love Clark so much and why I get so frustrated wirh people who call Superman boring. It's the hardest thing in the world to try to do the right thing, or even to know what that is. To see someone come into a situation that everyone else has just *accepted* - and he stands and questions it, challenges it... it's so captivating, powerful, and inspiring.
Sure, but that wasn't something given to him, it's just the way his body works. Besides, I feel like that's all the more reason for Clark to be upset another child has to have the responsibility of superpowers.

tbf. besides the fact that becoming a robin is a taxing and dangerous job for any kid. the benefits it gets you do set you up for life. you become the adopted son of a multi-billionaire with the best butler possible as a secondary father figure. get top notch education and medical treatment . and get to have a semi-normal life outside crime fighting. even allowing pets in some continuities.
One critic for the comic. When clark showing billy he is superman it is weird that he opens his hemd in front of a child in a poor area.... Just removing the glases and a little lift up from the floor would have been better. Update: It is Funny how Angry some people get because I said that while they surely say same things about Anime. Superman understands, super power is actually not a tool you can use whatever you want, it needs trainning to mature your self to use somekind powerfull super power like that. oddly a plotline I never really thought of, Superman mentoring and psuedo fathering Shazam. I mean their powersets are almost identical and it's in Clark's character.

ORIGINALLY, Billy was Captain Marvel, but due to Marvel also having a Captain Marvel, and it making sense for the company Marvel to have a Captain Marvel, they eventually stopped calling Billy that and started calling him Shazam, even though the DC Captain Marvel predates Marvel Captain Marvel. So, now there is Shazam and the Wizard Shazam.

I have to say, these panels are particularly interesting when you take into consideration that there is an entirely different comic where superman, knowing that Shazam is a child, takes away shazam's ability to speak and beats him to death.
Well, I would assume that under the age of 18 children shouldn't be forced into baring ungodly strength and putting their loved ones at risk, or losing them because criminals want to hurt you. Billy has been around since the 1940s. Except in Kingdom Come, he has never aged. The comics dance around this a lot, but he has never aged.

Superman DOES confront Shazam, the old wizard, AFTER he discovers Captain Marvel is really a young boy.
Stories like this are why I love Clark so much and why I get so frustrated wirh people who call Superman boring. It's the hardest thing in the world to try to do the right thing, or even to know what that is. To see someone come into a situation that everyone else has just *accepted* - and he stands and questions it, challenges it... it's so captivating, powerful, and inspiring.

Clark and the Wizard's final exchanges here give off the impression like his opinion of the old man changed a bit. Not total forgiveness, but a certain degree of understanding and just a little bit of common ground they can agree on.

tbf. besides the fact that becoming a robin is a taxing and dangerous job for any kid. the benefits it gets you do set you up for life. you become the adopted son of a multi-billionaire with the best butler possible as a secondary father figure. get top notch education and medical treatment . and get to have a semi-normal life outside crime fighting. even allowing pets in some continuities.
Meanwhile Batman is adopting children with trauma in bulk!!!

One critic for the comic. When clark showing billy he is superman it is weird that he opens his hemd in front of a child in a poor area.... Just removing the glases and a little lift up from the floor would have been better.

Superman understands, super power is actually not a tool you can use whatever you want, it needs trainning to mature your self to use somekind powerfull super power like that. Even clark needs years to control his power thats bringing him to undertstand the risk, he can be a hero but also can be a threat. Super power is basiclly responsiblity. Just like spiderman said " with great power, comes great responsiblity ". Thats why when superman saw shazam is actually a kid who wield godly power, he is like angry and said " who did this to you" which means who in the hell give you big responsiblity like this to wield this power. Maturity is needed to wield great power.
I love the interaction between the Wizard and Superman cause its clear Supes words actually hit deep with the Wizard knowing Shazam needed Superman especially rn for support.
oddly a plotline I never really thought of, Superman mentoring and psuedo fathering Shazam. I mean their powersets are almost identical and it's in Clark's character.

Superman accepts Batman training kids because Superman trusts Bruce to guide them and make sure they don't get in too deep. Or at least try to. The wizard hands a 12 year old orphan a host of powers that makes him as strong as Superman, if not stronger. That seems like a really bad idea for everyone involved. Yeah, there's a difference between training a kid in martial arts and dective skills and pushing the power of gods on them.

ORIGINALLY, Billy was Captain Marvel, but due to Marvel also having a Captain Marvel, and it making sense for the company Marvel to have a Captain Marvel, they eventually stopped calling Billy that and started calling him Shazam, even though the DC Captain Marvel predates Marvel Captain Marvel.
So, now there is Shazam and the Wizard Shazam.

I have to say, these panels are particularly interesting when you take into consideration that there is an entirely different comic where superman, knowing that Shazam is a child, takes away shazam's ability to speak and beats him to death.
And where does superman draw this imaginary line? What age is too young? 8? 12? 16??
Well, I would assume that under the age of 18 children shouldn't be forced into baring ungodly strength and putting their loved ones at risk, or losing them because criminals want to hurt you. This 'imaginary line' shouldn't be too skeptical when a 12 year old loses his best friend dying in his arms while struggling to keep his emotions in check, lol.
