Yeah, I think that is just what is to be expected of Superman since when he started he was pretty much just a guy with super powers and no specialised training.
Doing research on Superman it really surprised me with his martial skill. He is definitely more than just a big muscle bound brute. What do you think? anything that surprised you and do you agree with my assessment of the fight and who would win? I'd like to see your thoughts and opinions....
i'd say Goku without powers is a better fighter, but Superman can fight back. Superman defeated plenty of adversary without powers and it is easy to do it. It is more complicated with Son Goku. Many of his skill are chi or Ki derivated or by his sayan heritage. Maybe if some god make the 2 heroes normal human we could have a fight, and i believe Goku could win, but it is still a harsh fight for him. Goku is 62 Kg ( about 130 lbs) guy but Superman is 102Kg (225 lbs). In Box , Goku will be 8 categories lbelow Superman based on the men's professional boxing rankings.
Yeah this was a big hypothetical since Goku gained his superhuman abilities through training which is very different to Superman that gets his powers from an outside source(the Sun). I 100% agree that it would be a dog fight, Goku wouldn’t be walking away from the fight unscathed but I did give him the win due to him being more consistent with his training and having to rely on his skills more than Superman. Which is just due to the difference in the characters, Goku is a fighter looking to fight strong opponents and continue improving while Superman is a superhero looking to save people and the world from threats big and small.
Without power, Superman's size and weight advantage would be too great for Goku to overcome. People don't realize just how much of an advantage that gives someone. Superman would literally only need one hit to take Goku out with that difference. The equalizer against size and weight is grappling which Superman has shown more and better skill than Goku. If Goku gets in close as you say, Superman would take him to the ground and submit him. When people compare Goku and Superman's martial arts skills, they rarely talk about good martial arts. They talk about how many styles, and masters, and all the training fluff. How about you look at how they actually fight? All the training, styles, and masters are meaningless if they can't fight. Compare them to real objective good martial arts, and Superman fights more like a real MMA fighter using real martial arts concepts than Goku.
I do agree to an extent. I came to the conclusion that Goku would win based on his more consistent training and his need to rely on technique more than Superman. This is due to their differences as characters, Goku is a fighter while Superman is a hero. The more tools available to a fighter the less size is an advantage. Watch early MMA when it was still open weight to see that with the right training and strategy a smaller guy can overcome much larger opponent and I believe Goku's training combined with his fight IQ would win him the fight.

Goku does train more, but like I said in my original post, all the training in the world is meaningless if he still can't fight. Even then, Goku trains all day every day to fight a few times a year whereas Superman fights all day every day. Goku's training vs Superman's experience. Experience usually wins. Goku doesn't rely on technique as much as you think. Since becoming an adult, pretty much all of Goku's wins are the result of a big pushing contest. There's not a lot of technique in pushing. As I said, grappling is the equalizer against size and weight which is how smaller guys were beating bigger guys in early MMA. That doesn't help Goku because Superman has shown more and better grappling skills regularly using wrestling, judo, and jiujitsu. Goku is 99% a pure striker. Even if we give better technique to Goku, Superman would still have the advantage as early MMA proved grappling is an easy counter to strikers. Superman has shown far more tools with a more diverse fighting style and has won more fights using fighting techniques than Goku who wins by pushing really hard. Superman also shows a higher fighting IQ than Goku. Just look at one of Goku's only grappling examples when he gave Broly a judo throw. If Goku had good fight IQ, he would have jumped on Broly and kept the pressure with ground and pound. Instead, he stood there doing nothing letting Broly powered up and got up. That's perfect technique, but bad fighting IQ. As I said in my original post people who say Goku fights better, never compare how they actually fight. You make assumptions based on what they say and not what they actually do.
Goku is a fighting genius, I think if you take away his superhuman powers and he is fighting a man built like Superman that massively outweighs him that he would care about the size difference and adapt his win strategy for dealing with a bigger opponent.
I didn't realise Superman had done any martial arts training. Every time I have seen him fight he looked like a brawler relying on his super powers.
