Meryl is just one of the most amazing humans. Her work has been exemplary and listening to her talk is like sitting with a great friend that has both humour and knowledge to offer.
Not only is Meryl Streep the greatest actor of our time, but she she is a brilliant mind with such depth of empathy and awareness of all that matters in being an interesting and successful human being.
I do love her a ton, but she is not the greatest. It’s not a fair statement. That encourages people to pit women against each other. There are plenty of other great wonderful actresses. I think each woman in the industry should be her own standard. Thank you and goodbye. We need to stop saying that she’s the greatest. She is great. She’s wonderful. & leave it at that:)
@@cece8095 But what the original commenter said about her empathy and awareness is very true. She has told so many wonderful stories of interesting women from our world. It was absolutely unbelievable for me when she came to Australia in the late 80s to play Lindy Chamberlain, who had been accused of murdering her baby, because the Law didn’t believe her when she said “a dingo took my baby” Meryle did her bit to join our protest to prove Lindy innocent. It took years. A very shameful part of our history. While writing this, she has shared her knowledge of our Indigenous people which is awesome. She is a wonderful woman, who keeps her own ego in perspective.
@@cece8095 There is nothing wrong w/ competition. It doesn't need to mean to pit people against each other. It just means striving to be better for yourself. I had nothing against the person who was in the lead spot, it just gave me something better to shoot for myself. Meryl is one of the best actresses. It doesn't take away from other great actresses to recognize her excellence above most. I can't think of a better actress, just others somewhere in her league.
Interviewers often irritate me by interrupting or trying to impress with their own knowledge, but this was an excellent interviewer who was delightful in his own right without overshadowing the guest.
Such a beautiful soul. She is so gentle and gracious. Her gift is the ability to listen and hear the words that are omitted from the conversation. Her charm and wit is unparalleled. Thank you Meryl.
What a priceless gift this remarkable lady is to all of us. She's as emotionally generous as she is bewilderingly talented. I saw her for the first time in 1979 live in a NYC off-Broadway production of Brecht/Weill's Happy End. I'd gone because I loved the show, and had no idea who Streep was or would become. After that mind-blowing performance, however, I knew.
Oh I envy you! This gave me a chill. I am so keen to visit NYC for many reasons and one of those reasons is to visit the Performing Arts Library; they have video footage of her earlier stage performances. Is there anything else you can tell us about watching that performance?
@@samsong24 If you know the show, you know her character (Halleluiah Lil) has virtually ALL the songs. And OMB did she sing them! Bilbao Song, Surabaya Johnny, Sailors’ Tango, and on and on. It’s a piece I knew by heart, every moment of which she did more perfectly than I could have dreamed. You could tell she was a volcanic talent. She wore her hair in long puffy curls, almost Afro-style, and simply glowed. Her co-stars, Christopher Lloyd and Grayson Hall, were both excellent but paled by comparison. I kick myself to this day I didn’t go backstage after for an autograph. It was the late 1970s so you could still do that, and this was before Manhattan and Deer Hunter. Still, it remains the most remarkable stage performance I’ve ever seen.
Thank you so much! Theatre is such a precarious thing and most of the time it only stays alive by memory. Such a treat to be in direct contact with somebody who had this experience. Great interview. Pleasantly surprised, although I shouldn't have been, at how highly intellectually this interview was. Enjoyed immensely! Always a fan of Ms. Streep's work, but she has been elevated personally in my eyes. A delightful hour, well spent.
