What a lovely, thoughtful, and inspiring speech. "This is your time and it feels normal to you, but really there is no normal. There is only change, and resistance to it, and more change."

it's up to all of us to take what we can from this... she gave the speech at one location but it is here for all of us to learn from... if this had taken place 10yrs ago not one of us would be able to see or hear the advice she offers but the fact that we live in the age.. yet that we are the first to live in an age where we are fortified the opportunity to witness this profound speach is a gift to all of us.. in short count your blessings, be grateful and have empathy..

Well was directed here through Udemy to understand what's clarity. And I am so overwhelmed to find one of the best commencement speeches I have ever seen. Where she has perfectly portrayed the minute details of her life with true clarity.

What a great speech - heartfelt and insightful, and revealing along the way how an actor crafts her life experience. She's obviously thought very carefully about what she could possibly offer these graduates, apart from a brush with glamour, and taken a long look at what her experience has to offer them.

I've received three different degrees. In the first one the governor of Kansas gave the address. In the second one a rising politician who had an appointed position in state government and the Secretary of Commerce spoke at the third. Where the hell was Meryl Streep when I needed her. I would go back to school and get another degree if I was assured she would be the speaker. She is beautiful, witty, clever and a national treasure. These women were lucky.

I was the only teenager working at a movie theater in 2001 when she walked in and it was empty. She had no money at concession claiming “she didn’t have the cash on her” and she’d “pay me on her way out.”
She didn’t just blast out when her movie was done, she glared at me as she ran out. She was one of maybe 17 people in a 10 screen location.
It was a Tuesday or Wednesday at like 3 pm.
And I had to pay for her food and drink.
I had just turned 17. And she was seeing Serendipity. But take my money Meryl.
I’m waiting for the day to remind this woman that she has no right to take money from, essentially, kids.
No respect for this person, idc if you believe me, wait till you meet her.

It's actually a separate institution from Columbia. It is one of the Seven Sisters colleges, which was the female Ivy League. It has a partnership with Columbia so that students receive diplomas from both schools, but it's legally and financially independent from Columbia. It's not an aggie school either, it's a liberal arts college that happens to be across the street from an Ivy League school.
