At least once every month, I always come back here to rewatch this scene, along with the one, where Batou and Kuze fight! Amazing! Truly the peak of GitS Anime! I really wish Kuze would've got his own spin-off series! He's such a cool (I especially like the "Cyborg Ronin Vibe" he gaves), interesting and well designed character, but unfortunately he's also very underrated (at least the way I see it), even among the GitS Fanbase. A series about him, during his wandering years (2024 - 2032) would've given us so much S.A.C Lore and world building! Imo, it definitely would've been a much better series than Arise and 2045/Netflix.

hmm, this is the first time it's bothered me, but ahs anyone else noticed that Kuze makes like a 500-600 meter leap in distance into the forest? his mountain infantry unit got outfitted with some damn good legs.
I would assume then that his body is several generations out dated and thus heavier. Mountain terrain is also be tough on equiment and bodies so as Mountain Infantry, especially for his deployment (in northern china if i recall in snowy mountains) His body should be heavy duty intended for battering against boulders and insulated against extreme cold and or heat.
Security: Monitors everything Fails to spot a floating katana Has nothing like mini radar, motion sensors etc relies solely on visual detection when guarding a PM in a cyber world. Is full of cyborgs with great resistance to bullets yet ends up using nothing than bullets to stop a cyborg. If I were the PM I'd fire them on the spot since the above would tell me that they are either too incompetent or the assassin's accomplices...
@@BurntPlaydoh I've always wondered. Did Gouda really controlling Kuze here with the Individual 11 Virus and he only managed to break free from it around Episode 12 when he met with the core members of the terrorist group? Or the Virus couldn't control Kuze in the first place (even though he was a "virgin", he still had a strong ghost, like a walking Stand Alone Complex, just like The Major or Aoi/The Laughing Man) and the only reason he obeyed it's orders is because he thought that he might find out who's behind it later? Anyway, I'm kinda dissappointed that we didn't see how Kuze got injected with the Virus.
Real life motion sensors are only practical in areas where there is no preexisting movement, I.E. with nobody being present. And what the heck is "mini radar"? Anyways, Security was the Major and co., and you literally just saw them do their job and fill the assailant full of holes.
Security was also set up in a Buddhist temple that likely didn't allow electronics to be installed, if the candle-powered lighting is anything to go by. Pretty sure they noted this setup to be a security nightmare before the visit. Also, most cyborgs' bullet resistance isn't as good as that; his body is noticed as being high-spec even if it is out of date, as I recall. And on top of that, their actual job was "protect the PM," which they did.
Adding to my predecessor, there is a scene before that in the episode of them complaining how dangerous and irresponsible is for the PM to just go and pray without anyone inside, no tech allowed in the temple as was requested by her (and probably the rules of the temple i guess) with her being fully aware that there were death threats, she only allowed Major to have her eyes. GitS script is very tightly written, there is very little things that you can actually complain about in this show that are not logical. Everything with this scene make sense story-wise and with it's in-universe logic.
two thoughts: 1) he's not carrying much, and in this universe we've seen the major and the tachikomas do a fair bit of acrobatics themselves. 2) perhaps more surprising is that the roof can take that kind of force. I was curious so I ran a quick calculation: assumptions: 250kg, 45˚, 9.81 gravity, 500m jump. I got an acceleration of 70m/sec, resulting in 17,500 newtons = 3,934.1565 pounds force. conclusion... strong roof :P
And from what I've found out, the name/word "Kuze" means "Old Story" in Japanese. So his full name, "Hideo Kuze" means "Hero Old Story". Fits him perfectly, since he was a "Hero" to the refugees and he's sharing an "Old Story" (a sad but sweet story) with Motoko. By the way, in the 2017 novel (GitS: Five New Short Stories) it was revealed that his real surname was "Hisaragi". But no matter how hard I tried, Google didn't reveal the meaning of this name to me. My search was always forced to "Kisaragi".
@ButterfingerBB Don't know this particular piece, but track #14 on the CD (Yoko Kanno - GITS SAC Unofficial Collection 1) has this music 40 seconds into the song, but at a slower tempo. I just increased the tempo by 115% to get pretty much the same music.
I learned one thing today seeing this every once in a while when cops face a total badass they suck at keeping track of them but it’s fine. I wonder what would’ve happened if Kuze was using a new type rather than his old one
i'd say your estimate of weight is not over the top, if anything i'd say it's a little under. I do also recall somewhere that someone in section 9 weighed in at 550lbs and i know it's not batou. So for all intents and purposes i would assume everyone else whose a full cyborg have heavy duty but relatively light weight, highspeed combat type bodies. Kuze's body was front line mountain infantry and the story his he has not changed or even really fixed his body since then.
wow...Major and Batou were actually shooting in one another's direction when Hideo was between them...Guess they were confident of their shooting skills.
Makes sense since in this universe cyborgs can basically just download the abilities needed to be absolute crackshots and the two of them are so experienced that they can make use of these abilities the absolute fullest. Just to give an idea: there is a scene in the series where Saito, one of the greatest snipers in the world, simulates a fire fight with the Major and he is fully confident that she could shoot his bullet out of the air at medium range and put a second one in his head before he could react. It doesn't end up happening, but the fact that one of the best marksmen in the series legitimately thinks it would be possible, is pretty good indication that it is.
hehe thanks. one more point: an acceleration of 70m/sec is around 7g's thats the upper end of what fighter pilots are capable of for short time spans. so that adds to the.. um... believability. :D the 250kg might be a tad extreme [~550 lb]; but i chose it because i recall seeing that number listed as someones weight in the show. it was a brief glimpse of someones dossier... might be the majors lol, but i don't really recall
i noticed that too! Batou just comes storming in with guns blazing even though the Major is in direct firing line. Whoever that other person was, besides Kuze, was also in his line of fire. And then the major just reloads and starts shooting again as well lol. All that was missing was a tachikoma opening up on them with its arm machine gun from above
