Today did not suck! Got a chance to sit with @johnmayer and @sharkey335 at rehearsal. Incredibly genuine dudes and outlandishly musical players ( how killing is John on the 8 string?!😵) Looks like the Pathos and “Space Tele” will be in the hands of @sharkey335 from now on and we’re starting an art series build for John ASAP. Totally surreal 😩🤟🏿

I got my two electric basses tuned to DGCF and DGCFA#. My acoustic is at EADG, but buying a nice Jackson with actives and i’m gonna keep that at BEADG. I have one guitar, a 6 string and I keep that at d standard, but I think im considering on buying a 7 after playing my buddy’s guitar, any 7 string recommendations?

It isn't. He is using the Companion Psychedelic Machine, basically a Companion/Univox/Honey Super Fuzz. In it's first iteration it was like a head unit, not a pedal, so he had it on his rack. For those who don't know, look up a guy called Charlie Hunter who has used an eight string like that since the early nineties.

My guess is the steel string pedal shown a bit later. Google it.
Basically the V.1 Super Fuzz, the Companion Psychedelic Machine, an old Head Unit Super Fuzz. Any modern Super Fuzz style pedal will get you there, like the JHS Supreme (he used one during the new tour).

@@nave94 In all seriousness though, I think he's hitting a note, bending it, then keeping it held, tapping a note onto the still bent string before pulling off the tapped note and releasing the bend. All in rapid succession. Something along those lines, I think there's a video of him explaining that very sequence, but of course knowing what he's doing isn't the same thing as being able to repeat it. Lots of finesse in that little sequence of notes.

this makes me think 8 strings maybe aren't as unnecessary and dumb as i thought...
Thinking any instrument is unnecessary is a great way to stifle creativity. Bands like Meshuggah wouldn't sound the same without their 8 strings. You may not like it but their creativity is undeniable.

@@johnbotelho3453 they play different styles, so they can both learn a lot from eachother. tosin is still the more mechanically better guitar player though.
John and Tosin play two entirely different styles of music. There’s really no reasonable comparison between them, other than the 8 string that’s being played in this video haha. They each excel in different aspects of playing. They’re both high skilled enough players to perhaps even train themselves to be as good as each other in both fields of music. But which one of them really wants that. They each choose to play what they love and feel. At the end of the day, that’s what really good guitar playing is all about. It’s not about being the best player in every style. It’s about passion for what you do, authentic expression and being congruent to your being.

John Knott dude...John Mayer plays guitar right handed. I don’t know where the argument is coming from. He plays right handed. End of story. Front facing cam flips the video left to right. Some of the guitar/fan accounts will reverse the video to make it look right, instead of being mirrored like it originally was. If you look up John Mayer, it will tell you, he’s a right handed player.
