The "more playing and less talking" rules are only for the general guitar youtube channel hosts. Hell, mayer could just talk about the guitar for an hour and I would still watch it
@ytub yt today people love the gear but not the music, is strange, there's no stimulation, like, jack White play with everything, j. Mayer same, anyway. Santana uses a prs too, like the sound of the guitar
Its basically a strat what's so ugly about it besides the minor differences from a guitar you've just been used to seeing. Its.not ugly just different.
John Mayer is doing exactly what makes sense for a top tier player today and working with one of the few big guitar makers that still is owned by someone who loves and plays guitar
The pop star Mayer does not tell you he is using pedals to make it sound great. Guitar comes in 7 colors and sells for more than $2299. He also has an acoustic Martin selling for $3,759.00.
Are we not going to talk about that ending chord? Sich a beautiful sound. Like most (and massive Mayer fan) I was a little underwhelmed in the first half. And then totally blown away. Like he subtly weaved in thematic bits he planned to use later. This is storytelling with the guitar

@@adammarshall978 Judging by the UA-cam video John Mayer made about making his song "In Repair," which he worked on with Hunter, as well as other times I've heard him talk about his admiration for Hunter on UA-cam, I would think he would agree with you
At first I was like... He definitely could have done a more catchy pulse to demo, then slowly with each phrase I got more and more mesmerized and by the end i was laughing at his mastery. Talk about complete brain to fingers connection with the instrument. 🤯
I love when we can actually see what his hands are doing along the fret board... yet, I still won't be able to even come close to replicating that. I mean, it is crazy how effortless he makes it look when he is bouncing back and forth between rhythm and lead.... fantastic Demo!
John and PRS came up with the perfect guitar for John. John is a completely masterful player and knows what he wants, and Paul Reed Smith just knows how to get it done perfectly and precisely to what the player envisions and hears in their head. Not easy at all, but PRS is just a Tonal Genius!!!
All you gotta do is play one. I picked it up and didn't put it down for 2.5 hours. Now it's mine. I'm a Strat guy and this thing definitely has the Strat "thing" 100%. Sounds like a real vintage strat a fraction of the price and plays like a brand new one. The 7.25" radius feels great under the fingers and the tones are pure vintage strat. I know people online and in comments keep saying it doesn't have the mojo but I'm a die hard strat guy. I've played $150 bullet strats and $30,000 vintage strats. This is the real deal.
I bought mine when it came out. I own strats from 56-65. They are all great at one thing. My SS is hands down the best guitar I own of the strat variety. It sounds great in every position.
I just got one and it is that good. Totally worth the money. The se was good but this is great. The SE felt cheap and was not in its league. Did not sound the same. Save your money and buy one ( used)
and in addition to his two guitars, the Martin acoustic and the PRS Strat-pretender, John Boy has the, ta da, PRS John Mayer J-MOD 100-Watt Head in Stealth Tube Amplifier Black that sells for a little under 6 thousand dollars, and if you can't afford that model, you can just buy the companion PRS John Mayer J-MOD Stealth 130W 2X12 Guitar Amplifier Speaker Cabinet Black for just over a 1000 dollars. The amp and the speaker together are a hefty investment of more than 7 thousand dollars. As one hilariously reviewer wrote about the amp on Musician's friends, "Not only am I one of THE prominent plastic surgeons here in Hollywood (busy as heck-always) I am also a HUGE John Mayer fan. So when my eight year old son wanted to try to learn electric guitar a PRS ten top and this amplifier was the obvious choice. He is really starting to make some music (or his version of music) with this amp. Because of the power (volume-wise) he can really hear the chords he is learning to make. I never was a big fan of Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus but when he plays those songs out of this amp, let me tell you, you can FEEL the music. Some of the servants in the house have actually taken out their earplugs and told me that he has a future in music-nice. Sure the amp is a little expensive, but what the heck-my kid is worth it. Just FYI , we are running the amp through two Marshall 4X12 stacks, which have broken more than a few windows!. That's OK though, windows can be fixed-just like droopy old rich faces and hook noses and sagging breasts."
I think the guitar is not special, but the player is. Looks like a strat with a PRS neck. Innovation sounds/looks different. It is just a selling point!
Ashton Montgomery from the looks of it, he’s going directly into both his J-MOD and his Dual Professional (otherwise there would be no spring reverb, as the J-MOD does not have a verb) but a good place to start with mayer tone is a blackface amp, with the mids slightly scooped, emphasizing the bass and treble, any tube screamer (I use a TS808 and it does the job) some sort of clean boost/light drive (think keeley katana, a klon, or any klon clone) and obviously, a strat. And lots of practice too!
Yeah it sounds like a tube amp turned up loud. No pedals. He does his demos of that guitar with no pedals to prevent calls of foul from the super finicky guitar wacko fringe.
