2023. The song was originally recorded to be part of The Search For Everything but did not make the cut.
I want the unreleased one where he improvs it on a radio show, that "Sunlight, beatin on the corner of the walls and I'm a mister know it all. Heaven calls, said get yourself right, get yourself rightttt now"
I love it too, this from the Apple Zane Lowe interview, but I think it was just him riffing with filler lyrics that he puts over chord progressions to figure them out if that makes sense? As much as I would love to hear it knowing the type of work John releases I doubt it'll see any form of release because there is literally a soundcloud with a great track called 'Little Sur' that I know he will never release just cause he's locked into a specific lane of pop songs for a while right now. We just need a Born and Raised type album to get that trend back ig.

Every song I hear from JM sounds calming, including his more upbeat songs. I think it's his voice. It's like listening to an old friend. I feel like I could just run into him on the street and say, "Hi John... how's it goin'?" And that would be cool... just like his music. ✌🏾
I'm just so grateful to witnessing the genius John Mayer, listening to new music and maybe see him live one more time.
Same here. Been a fan of his since 2001 with room for squares and have only seen him live for the first time in October on his SOLO tour. The energy you feel in a live John Mayer concert is incredible

John, I have to agree with your creative team cadence in the notes are very Bob Dylan like I love the Lyrics and yes, I think we've all felt that desire "please be you"! How do you say I love your album born and raised & continuum too... trying to learn each song on the guitar myself. And when I figure it out after looking at several UA-cam channels, lol and your shorts that you might put out, I get such a high and being able to play one of your songs on my guitar. So many people love you, John you're truly a gift & a gem to us all. We are so blessed, I didn't think that I would hear such great music from my era of the 60s and 70s again but when you came along you broke that banner & flew...❤🎶🎸

Thanks. Pretty sure Dylan wouldn't care. One of his albums was called Love and Theft. And his friend George Harrison unknowingly copied the melody of He's So Fine for My Sweet Lord. The song definitely reminded me of a Dylan song, yet it took me a while to hear it as If Not For You. Looking forward to a live version. Maybe a duet with Dylan?

@@nomnom112 And IIRC Dylan sold his songs. That said, it would be interesting if Dylan testified at the trial and said, Nope, not my song. Would also be interesting if AI showed the virtually every song is a copy of something. There's a nice interview with Brian May recently where he wonders where his own songs came from. There's a great story from the Renaissance. Raphael was painting The School of Athens while Michelangelo was working in secret on the Sistine Chapel. Raphael snuck in and included a sulking figure in his painting in the style of Michelangelo said to be a portrait of Michelangelo. Michelangelo was pissed off.
In theory, someone could build a big AI system that would compose billions of melodies, copyright, produce and release them. Then use the AI to monitor and sue anyone who approximates their copyrighted work. The day the music died.

Thank you John! Sharing this song, it's simple melody and lyric hits home today. We are in the process of saying goodbye to our mom. I'd guess this is slanted more towards romance, but it's really about letting go to me. Love is painful but worth every bit of risk. And eventually, letting go is the only way love grows forever, embedded in our soul.

If you have a copy of physical copy of TSFE you will notice that on the physical copy of the album, you will see the words "Vol. 1."
I noticed that when I first bought the album. It’s probably just a tease; I doubt JM intended for it to mean anything. Even if he did, he seems like the type who rarely, if ever, goes back to the well after changing his mind about musical directions. The “vol. 1” thing feels similar to Bob Dylan titling his autobiography “Chronicles, Vol. 1” only for him to tease us with the possibility of a volume two for nearly two decades now.
