I have been putting an old black sock over recycled glass bottles, the Starbucks coffee in the glass bottles are great 🤷🏼♀️😂 works like charm and it's easy to check the roots when I want too ☺️
Outstanding advice. You have great knowledge concerning plant care and maintenance. Tradescantia's make one of the best beginner plants as they are such prolific growers, they are very rewarding and forgiving. Just keep them out of reach of children and pets as they are mildly toxic. 👍
thank you so much! i recently bought a tricolor cutting on etsy and it was so beautiful when it came in. within a week, i was killing it! i had given it too much water at first, so then i tried to dry it out and now my leaves are flimsy and have holes in them-i think i gave them too much sun. i’m pretty sure my roots were rotting! so my last resort is cutting under the one little node that i had and water propagating it... hopefully to grow more roots that are actually healthy so that i can try again! i hope that this works because this plant is so beautiful 🥺
Just refreshing to have an intelligent female out there explain things logically! I've had my plans in water for a few weeks now and they have a very nice healthy root system!
Apart from the clear information I would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed your to the point intro/outro, your full sentences and that you edited out any 'uhm's. It makes such a wonderful contrast to long-winded videos with a lot of bla-bla! And thnx for the info about propagation. Now I know why soil-propagation didn't work on mine. Also, I was wondering how you know when it has enough roots to transfer from water to soil.
I have a nanouk I dipped it in rooting hormone and stuck it back in soil that was kind of damp not during watering day. Hope it doesn’t rot like you said. I didn’t let it callous, in hindsight probably should have. It’s been a couple days or so still quite perky. I think the rooting hormone while it’s not necessary is best to use to avoid root rot as usually they have agents to prevent bacteria and fungal growth. I mean might as well to give it a little boost to increase chances.
Loved your explanation of different methods of propagation. My zebrina grows so fast. I take cuttings and make new plants to give away but my nanouk is struggling. It has new growth but the edges turn brown and crispy. Any tips for helping that variety? Is water propagation better for that one since the stem is sturdier?
I had a similar problem with the nanouk. I water propagated, but be sure to let the cut callous before doing so. If it is browning, could it be perhaps a light issue? How much light and how much water is it getting?
Hi, thanks for the video, it’s very helpful and informative! I have a tradescantia sillamontana cutting, and I’m trying to propagate it in sphagnum moss. It’s only been one day, I hope it will grow root. Thank you!
great vid! watched a ton of vids for this and other plants, and first time i'm ever hearing about not using a clear container! thx! gonna try to see if that speeds things up here. :)
I just found your channel and subscribed! You went so in depth about this plant and the different varieties 😍 thank you so much for all the information.
I would love to hear your recommendations on light, placement, watering and what soil they like. Great video, thank you!!!! I just started a new baby thanks to this video.
Excellent video, very informative! Thanks! Just bought a Nanouk at the grocery store on impulse. Never had one before, do you have any tips on keeping the intense purple color from fading? Are some individual plants just more purple than others?
Light is super super important to maintain the bright color - I kept mine pretty close to the grow light and saw no burns. In terms of natural lighting, an Eastern facing window with no obstructions should do well
Would you recommend propagating a Nanouk in water or soil? I brought a clipping home from a nursery that was in soil and put it in soil at my house but the leaves started to coil. I think it’s in shock. According to you video, I put it in water tonight. Thank you!
I hope you see this! We propagated our purple one into water and they have grown roots but we aren’t sure when to plant them back into soil? How much roots should they grow before planting them back into soil?
Have an unplanned nanouk propagation that broke off and need to know how to handle that variety... From the video I am guessing - let it callus then soil prop?? The main plant browns off leaves so quickly and has FINALLY been growing faster than dying so I'm worried about getting it wrong
Yep! I got some nanouk cuttings in the mail recently and I water propped them. I’d say, if you want to be careful and monitor actively, go with water propagation. Soil could potentially carry bad bacteria/fungus that could hinder root development. It’s important to let it callous! I left mine out for ~1 hour and periodically checked; it actually took a long time because of its super thick trunk. If you’re having browning leaves as an issue, there could be too much light or humidity that could be an issue. This plant hates water on its leaves more than any other tradescantia variety
@@j0annepan The funny part is that the browning stopped when I increased humidity and increased light 🤣🤷♂️... I did do them both at the same time so it's hard to say which played a bigger role but the plant was as good as dead now it's growing. It's still browns when anything goes wrong.. Anyway I made the mistake of soil propagating it back into the same pot before I read this I guess I'll decide if I want to just roll with it or take it back out
Hey! Unfortunately, you’d have to purchase the specific pink variety. The purple is Tradescantia Zebrina and the pink one is commonly called Tradescantia Rainbow
Hi I have Tradescantia Tricolour that most of the leaves are turning green now. If I propagate them, would I get variegated new shoots or I will still get greens? Thank you in advance.
It depends - if there is still subtle amounts of pink striping, it’s likely that it will produce more variegation later on. If it’s fully green, you can trim that off to induce growth on the rest of the plant + keep the fully green cutting for a new pot of reverted stems :)
Nanouks are so strange. I feel like half 30% of people say they're the easiest plant ever and everyone else (like me) is constantly battling against leaves turning brown and dying off... I finally got mine on the positive side of that battle by putting it inside of a mini greenhouse with high humidity and a lot of light. But it's still an on and off battle that needs to constantly be monitored. Just today I saw some additional browning which was my hint that it had to be watered. When I checked just a couple days ago it seemed very wet now out of nowhere it was dry and there was browning
I water rooted some Nanouk and then put it in leca to see what happened and they’re happy! Maybe not as happy as the one I soil rooted and didn’t move but.... 🤷🏻♀️

Thats a neat tip lol thanks
Now I know what to do with my kids dark socks that have a hole 😂 Great tip! Thanks 🙏🏼 🌱
Every spring I start a new full pot with this plant and grow it again and again and again. Definitely recommend to everyone.

This was the most useful video I've seen in a long time. Thank you and keep up the good content ! ❤️
Learned so much, I love how you explain not just what to look for but why it’s happening.
Wo kann ich die Blume bestellen
Very informative, detailed and clear propagation information! Thank you!

I am trying water prop for my nanouk because my soil prop is failing.
You’re awesome! Thank you so much for this !
Your plant vids are so fun and calming to watch! Like I'm never gonna buy any tradescantia plants but it's so fun to watch you talk about them :D
Hello friend thanks for sharing your very informative and great video on propagation I just subscribe watching from California stay connected
Thank you so much! Hope my tradescantia do well :)
hey thank you for the tips i will put your video on my company so people can look at the video for help again thank you

Danke für die Tipps. Ich finde die Tradescantia Rainbow Hill sehr schön. Die Pflanze wird wohl bald in meiner Sammlung sein. 😅
I had one vine that broke off it was 2 ft long and I was so sad. After following the tutorial i saved it. Yayyyyyy
Is this your only plant video? I couldn’t find a playlist.
Love your lipstick color!
Thank you! 😊 I needed this video! 👌

Thank you! What about tradescantia nanouk?
Such an informative little video thank you honey 😊🌺
Great video, thanks!
Hi! i loved this! I’ve got some cuttings & i just wanted to know once transferred into soil, how often should i water? Thank you x
"They just like to die" 😅
Excelent video! Thank you so much. 💚

Thoughts on people propagating in leca or perlite? I think I have the Purple Heart variety that I just pruned and planned on propagating tomorrow 😃
Excellent video, very informative! Thanks! Just bought a Nanouk at the grocery store on impulse. Never had one before, do you have any tips on keeping the intense purple color from fading? Are some individual plants just more purple than others?
Ive had mine for a bit and ive seen no color loss.

What is the purple varigated tradescantia called?
yo! thanks for this ; what's the watering day schedule thingy?

How did that go?! Planning to try to propagate my own t.blossfeldiana
@@miac.5789 it went well! It’s grown almost 12 inches now 🥰
I hope you see this! We propagated our purple one into water and they have grown roots but we aren’t sure when to plant them back into soil? How much roots should they grow before planting them back into soil?
Once roots are 1/2” to 1” long, they should be good to go! Most of the time i soil propagate - they’re hardy so no need to worry!
@@j0annepan okay perfect thank you! Ours are way ready to go then!
My leaves always get brown and die.why?
I have a Zebrina and they keep rotting when I transfer to soil. Any idea why is that? Should I hold off from watering when transferring?
How often should I water my tradescantia fluminensis please? 😍
You are so beautiful and your plants
I rooted the burgundy wandering Jew in water and it rooted so fast but when I transfer it to soil, half of it rot. Any idea?
What works for the Moses in a cradel type?
Thank god I have one that likes water I don’t have any soil or Sphagnum moss 😂 yes, I know, I need to get some.
