Mandatory Japanese Phrases in Business Scenes

  • I’ve received some messages through Instagram about working in Japan.
The people that gave me DMs were worried that because their Japanese is not so good, they would not be able to be hired by the companies.
Learning a language to a business level is very difficult, and all you can do is to continue studying.
But then, is there nothing you can do to be prepared?
    My answer is NO.
What I recommend is to learn about the “basic business rules” in Japan, which is much easier than trying to have perfect Japanese.
Acquiring basic business rules will not only be appreciated and admired by companies, but will also set you apart from other workers who are not familiar with said rules.
So today, as a man who has worked at three different Japanese companies before, and now running my own, I would like to explain to you 12 basic greeting phrases that are used at many business scenes.
Also, at the end of the video, I will explain about the proper posture for bowing in Japan too, that also might be something interesting to learn about.
This video is perfect not just for those who are willing to work in Japan, but also to those who will study in Japan and communicate with any sensei or senpai in the future.

A common mistake made by foreigners when bowing in Japan is to press their hands together as they do it.
But as far as I'm aware, the only times when Japanese press their hands together are before meals and after meals.

Yes, it would be usually before and after a meal, or possibly at shrines and temples!😊

I think this mix up comes from Budhism. There is also the selfless aspect of Zen Budhism and conversation in Japan and knowing the two you can see that they are deeply intertwined.

I would love it if you did more culture oriented language lessons. One, you are good at explaining and presenting and two you are culturally focused in a way that very few language teachers are. Also you have a very smooth voice that many language learners would like to learn to emulate

Do you mean by for example the dialects in Japan?

@@LetsaskShogo Hmm honestly if you just keep making the kinds of videos you are already making, but added more language discussion including phrases and terminology in Japanese surrounding the topics you already do videos on, I think that's kinda what I'm thinking of. Or just more of this type of video. It's really helpful! Business language is one of those cultural things that people from other countries like the US won't even have a concept of. Of course only do it if you enjoy it, the content you're making now is fantastic!

Please make a video about the history of Yakuza.
Also, I have a curiosity, if the Samurai people joined and carried forward the Yakuza after they lost their power and privileges Post-Meiji Restoration?

I think this is a wonderful idea for a series of videos. Knowing a few phrases in a language is better that knowing none. It shows that the person has at least some respect for the culture. Maybe you can do one or more for common phrases that a visitor might need.

It must be hard for any Japanese citizens on autism spectrum to keep a job. Formal and professional language in the workplace in english is difficult not to misspeak but I'd imagine it'd be even harder in Japanese. I'd be curious to hear more about how learning how to pick up up on social cues in Japan might be different, everything seems so subtle.

So, it's not about business things, but what about sitting bow? When you are sitting on the floor, put your fists behind you and bow before person you very admire.
Is it still in use or it left only in historical movies?

I have spoken English pretty much all my life and we really don't have a formal way of saying goodbye, maybe Thank you for your time? But even then, mostly it's just goodbye or nothing.
