One of my favorite interviews. Not only did they individually heal themselves, but they moved forward as a couple healing one another and reaching out into communities to invite healing there as well. Imagine a world like this? That to me is the essence of what Christ envisioned for humanity. My heart is touched so deeply by this couple. Sigh ...

@Grant7619 The host is not a Christian. She did come out of mormonism. One of the videos is Shelise telling her story and her current personal spiritual beliefs. Some of the guests are believers. All the guests have come out of various cults. Shelise is very skillful and wise in the way she asks questions and lets folks tell their own story.

This episode touched my heart when it was said “we sought God in the church but really found Him when we left the church and made our little family the priority.” So glad you claimed your autonomy and left the death grip of that cult. So amazing how all of these high control groups are operating from the exact same playbook. And we only really recognize how similar the modus operandi are when we hear about all the different cults and religions that are using this same playbook. I guess it's been working for thousands of years so they figure no need to change it. It's only gotten worse. We need ways to protect children who should be allowed freedom of religion as well, as individual human beings. It is not appropriate that religion is used to control people and especially children and they get away with it almost all the time. Blessings to all the apostates!!! You are the courageous people much more courageous than most. 💗

I needed to hear this. So often I feel my path to autonomous spirituality was unique. I hear echoes of my story here, leaving the high control religion of my teens only to find myself in a cult in my early 20s. I am glad you had partners to sort it out. The internal moral compass that chooses love is always better than another's list of transgressions used to control our minds and replace our own moral compass. Thanks for the Linda listens!! you guys are spot on in your message.

These two are relationship goals. Their mutual respect and admiration is VISIBLE as they each actively listen when their partner speaks. I bet they're excellent friends to have too. Also, this channel and many others that seek to get people's stories out and create community (which is what Luci and Luke do as well) is why I think You Tube is such an obsession for so many. The journey to truth is a crazy one. I loved listening to your story and thank you so much for allowing us a glimpse into your life. I too was raised in a cult, and although I ran away from my mothers home at 13, and landed at my fathers who was total polar opposite from my mother I ended up returning to the church of my mother because it was so heavily ingrained into my four year old self. Eventually I did leave again, and made many mistakes, but I still believed everything I was taught. It’s been a long road of unlearning and relearning but it’s been totally worth it and I wouldn’t be able to change a thing, because I’ve learned so much more than I ever could have hoped for. I totally enjoyed Luke’s Linda Listen statement, and it was really just what I needed, and brought tears to my eyes. Again thank you both.

I have so many thoughts about this episode. Luci and Luke are just an amazing couple to watch. I love how compassionate they are toward each other and the love they so openly share for each other. I also love that they found their own path to faith that provides them joy and peace outside the religious oppression they have endured. They are people who I would be deeply honored to call friends. Wherever they have made their community, that place is clearly blessed by their presence there.
Their stories also made me much more aware of how vulnerable people are after leaving a high control group. It is heartbreaking that someone took advantage of their vulnerability instead of offering them genuine support. I’m glad they have both found their way into the happinesses they deserve.
I wish them and their family everything good for their future.

Round 2 in a really tough "boot camp" for discovering and recovering agency, and authenticity. Kudos!
It's encouraging, to me, that the younger "escapees" are talking about agency instead of victimhood. I'm thinking it may be due to the influence of more people talking about agency now. To me, it's a rite of passage that we all (everyone on the planet) will, sooner or later, encounter and begin the process of moving through the various stages of reclaiming our true spiritual nature.
I was born and grew up in a horse and buggy Old order Mennonite community in Pa., and left at around age 28. I explored but never joined another church because I never wanted another human being to be able to dominate/shame/manipulate me with religion. My weakness was in putting my hope and faith in significant others, who were other versions of controlling people I grew up with. Reclaiming agency is not for the faint of heart. It is a journey, and removing the onion layers can take a long, long time.

I really enjoyed this episode, and it resonated with me. I met my husband in a cult. Our dating relationship and marriage was highly directed and controlled by people in our church. Two years ago when I left the cult I planned to divorce him at the same time. He left the church a few months after me. It has been so much fun getting to deconstruct our faith and marriage together. It's been so exciting (with the help of intense therapy) to decide what kind of marriage we want to have. We try everything and keep what we like and toss out what we don't. It has been freeing to decide what role we want our faith and religious community to play in our lives. Thanks for sharing your story. It was very relatable

“When I ask what I have to say to myself today, there is a long pause, and then there’s this: Do not be daunted by the time it takes to heal. It took years for your mind to be shaped by old fears and it will take years to let those old fears go. But nothing is lost in this long process and everything is gained - happiness, creativity, awareness, increased capacity to be kind, to know truth, to share love. It’s so worth it to keep going, even if the task of healing seems endless. ”

You are incredible people and I am so glad you found each other and are helping each other to heal, as partners and as individuals.
    And I love that you're "Luci & Luke" b/c that's cute as heck.❤❤❤
🌻"Whatever you believe, you're supposed to come by that honestly."🌻. So true and so important. The things we figure out for ourselves are more genuine and more likely to "stick" - kinda similar to how when I learn a new song on piano or guitar by transcribing it myself by ear (vs. finding a chord chart to follow online), the chances of retaining it are much higher since more thinking and more engagement are required. Whereas "second-hand beliefs" that force you to rely upon others' experiences and interpretations without question can be dismantled much more easily, and are less likely to be integrated into the fabric of your existence. Always 'see for yourself', and trust the process as they say.
🙌"We took back our ability to choose."🙌 That quote right there - that's why things happened how they did. I can't imagine how exhilarating yet overwhelming it must have been to finally have autonomy, to not be controlled, to make your own decisions. Flying out of the nest can be terrifying, but there's no other option when it's time to test your wings and find out what freedom feels like. At long last, those trials are behind you. Enjoy the tribulations, because you both deserve to live how you see fit without fear of judgement.

Some of the same methods were used in the abusive church we attended like shunning, fear mongering by telling the Moses story to prevent people from challenging or speaking out against the authority, seeking counsel outside of the church, and other things! Thank you for telling your story! We spent over 40 years in the IFB churches and experienced some form of abuse in every single one of them.

What a beautiful couple! 💕 Thank you both for sharing your stories with us. My favorite part was hearing about your lovely community dinners. That is exactly what communion means. ❤ Blessings to you both! 🥰

I love this interview. What a precious couple. I'm glad they have ,and as I have done my own self To find my own relationship with God on my own terms. Without a church or pastor telling me what to believe. So utmost respect. Thank you all❤

You guys are so beautiful. Your comment about black/white/gray struck such a cord with me. I have always said the only black and white in life is God is good and the devil is bad….everything else is just a million shades of gray. The dinners for conversation that you have sound so amazing! What a blessing to find people who think and make their own decisions and yet still love the Lord. So many people think that isn’t possible. But it is!! I will be following you on social media now. Thank you for speaking out and sharing your story. Blessings to you both.

The devil almost entirely an invention of medieval Christianity, trying to reconcile all loving God with one they had to desperately suck up too, just in case he decided to damn them all to hell, also almost entirely a medieval invention. Don't worry though he's shoooo cute, he made rainbows and stuff to remind people he wouldn't flood the earth, Yellowstone/another asteroid/rogue planet nah nah fear that shit still

My gosh❤ Being that my name is Linda, when Luke made his “Linda listen”comment it was like he was speaking to me because this was so spot on and I couldn’t believe his words 😮 I felt like they were for me to hear today. When I met them both several years ago, I knew immediately the kind of people that they were… Kind, good, caring, loving, and everything positive. All I can say is thank you for posting the interview and God bless you and your family and everything that you do. ✝️🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼

One of my favorite quotes is “Be good, and you will be lonesome.” And songwriter Jimmy Buffet added, “Be lonesome, and you will be free.” Your statements about leaving the control of the church(es) reminded me of this quote.
