In the US, I'd suggest getting mineral sunscreens over chemical ones because our requirements are not as strict on UVA protection (SPF measures UVB protection--what causes sunburn, but UVA is actually what causes aging). Mineral filters like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide protect against UVA and UVB while many others are only good for UVB. In other countries, where more chemical filters are approved with stronger requirements for UVA protection, chem sunscreens can be a better bet.

A tip for "sheer" sunscreens that leave a white cast after applying full dosage: try applying it in multiple layers, making sure every layer is well absorbed before going on with the next ones. This works great for me!
Great tip! If you’ve got the time, do it in layers.
But Mineral sunscreen doesn't absorb, right? Isn't it is supposed to lay on top of the skin? Like a film. Layering won't help it absorb, but I'm sure it will offer more even application & better coverage!
That's why mineral is the hardest for me to navigate- even though it offers the best protection here in the States 😧
It's actually wayyy quicker in layers! I've always applied zinc sunscreen in layers, but tried it all at once today and it was a chore and got nasty in my hairline and eyebrows. :(
I think the size of the zinc bits means that they don't show up white on the skin if they're spread into a few thin layers--of course they can only absorb into the upper layers of the skin, though.
Oops, I Quid Pro Quo'd Myself The best uv coverage is La roshe posay mexoryl available in the us
Love how informative and thorough you are
Loved this highly researched and educational video! Great job!
Hands down THE BEST sunscreens review video I have found....because you applied it and shoed how it looks on your face!!! So many videos don't even open the bottle or mostly they just put a dab on the hand. But here we can really really get an idea of how t would look on us. Thank you so much!!!
Wow...what a helpful thorough video! This was great! Your voice is also very calm which I love.
I recommend the Australian Gold sunscreen for oily skin people. It keeps my skin matte all day for 12 hours from school to work! At the end of the day I can see little beads of oil coming through but not noticeable unless you’re right up to my face.
Love it that you use the correct amount in your reviews...... and your sense of humour 😄
Thanks chick, yes plz test the chemical ones and try Make P:rem, very good for both
I loved how thorough and realistic you were in your review! I use the Etude House and have very oily skin -- it controls oil like nothing else and is totally non-irritating for me. I absolutely love it, the only shame is it's primarily available on Amazon and I try not to support their labor practices.
Great job! I would enjoy a chemical sunscreen test too. 😘🙏
Have you tried CoTZ Sensitive spf 40 (untinted) with 20% zinc oxide, or CoTZ Flawless Complexion spf 50 (tinted with iron oxides) with 20% zinc oxide? I use and LOVE both because they do not leave a white cast and the second one has a slight universal tint to even out skin tone. You need to review these 2 also and they aren’t expensive.
You have a such nice explanation, thank you!! I extremely understand.
Thank you for this review. Always looking for good mineral sunscreens for the face.
Great review Joanna. My current favorites are the Australian Gold tinted & the elta MD tinted. I really want to try the sunprise. thanks!
May i know the comparison between two tint? I am looking slightly pale in the elta md which obviously leave me a little bit of white cast or i would say pinkish feel. Do you think AG has the same tint? Or it is darker, orangey and blends better?
Thank you for taking your time to review all these products. It is very generous of you to dedicate your time and money to these projects. I will definitely be purchasing the etude sunprise. I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel. ❤
thank you and welcome to the channel! :)
Instant follow! I have been using the biore skin perfecting milk (pink) and loving it. It has the same texture as the etude house sunpride. Maybe you'd want to give that a try. 😊
Best reviews!!! Subscribed!
I like the Australian Gold, the same version that you showed. I am very fair though, so after 10-15 mins, the white cast disappears. I do agree that the scent is a problem. For anyone interested, they do have a new version for children, which is unscented. I am going to try that as soon as I finish my current bottle. The ingredients appear to be the same, but are listed in a different order.
I also like Drunk Elephant (no tint), but I do have to let it dry down for 30 mins or more before putting on my mineral foundation. The white cast is not a problem for me, but it does make me look more oily. It works best for me in winter. You are right about it not being water\sweat resistant and to their credit their labeling states that you should use another sunscreen for water exposure.
Nice review.
thanks for sharing! definitely agree that the product would be a lot better without the scent! i would have probably given it a better rating too... the scent was just toomuch for me hehe
Thank you for this video. Very informative.
The Australian Gold tinted sunscreen is very dry on the skin, but no fragrance. There is a slight cast left on the skin and doesn’t work well with my tinted moisturizer.
I use Juice Beauty’s daily face moisturizer plus spf 30. It’s not tinted but it has like a slight color, and I have really tan skin yet it leaves no cast, and best of all it has no silicones:)
Thanks for the great reviews! It is so helpful that you illustrated how the sunscreens worked with application of the proper amount. My favorite sunscreens are the Elta MD Physical 41 and the Skin Aqua SPF 50 PA++++. The Skin Aqua is so comfortable and is water and sweat resistant. Have you tried that one? I would love to hear your opinion. Cheers!
thanks for the suggestion! i have not tried that one before but PA++++ is definitely a winner
Great video, super informative 👍 Thank you 💕
This was awesome! I hope you'll make it a series ;) Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Skinceuticals Physical Fusion sunscreen for every day, although I don't think it offers good enough UVA protection during the summer (my hyperpigmentation/melasma definitely worsened). I'm going to Europe in a month and I'm excited to get some of the LPR/Bioderma/SVR sunscreens that people rave about. It's really tough to find a good zinc oxide sunscreen that offers very strong UVA protection and is pleasant to use... Thanks again for this video, amazing job!
Interesting! I've always thought of zinc & titanium as being UVA-protection while other chemical filters often used here are not (which is why in the US anyway, that physical sunscreens are often a safer bet). that's disappointing to hear!
totally agree that the european ones have the better filters! But, the Avene one was not so good, from a use perspective so skip that when your'e in the pharmacy! FYI hehe :)
haha, good to know! I'll skip that one! European youtubers/bloggers rave about the Anthelios XL and it has a TON of UVA filters, so I'll probably grab that one... And yeah I was disappointed too about the Skinceuticals one. Maybe it's because it's only 5% zinc oxide? I do like it for the fall/winter time though, for what it's worth :)
@@halszka1985 Maybe bcoz La Roche Posay spent tons of money sponsors those video? This is how they market Anthelios XL line in Asia.
I find the Australian gold drying even on my oily skin!
I purchased it last summer bc it blew up as the favorite of many lists. It was like a charcoal mask on my dry, sensitive skin. Plus, it was a nightmare to get off and I stripped my skin even more. It went into a donate bin. It was way too hyped.
Word!
I agree.
I love the Australian Gold tinted and Elta MD tinted. The regular Australian Gold I use on my body and my kids. Worked great for Disney but hard to remove. Thank you for the review!
yes! it is hard to remove.. this is good and bad :) good for truly outdoorsy days for sure. i will be finishing up my bottle on my body.
Great review !
Thanks for a super informative video! Have you tried the (untinted) Elta MD clear SPF 46? It’s been my favorite for years and I’d be curious to see how it compares to the Elta MD one you like.
I have not! i definitely want to try other Elta MD ones b/c i think they do make reliably awesome sunscreens.
Thank you for this. Please, do a chemical one!
Thanks for the review ☆
I have very fair reactive sensitive skin, I can’t use chemical filters, fragrance or alcohol... help?
Thank you for such an informative video. I use Elta MD and I'm looking for other options... What about the invisible zinc?? Is it good under makeup?
have not tried that one i'm afraid!
Wish you reviewd elta MD pure spf 47 :) i wonder how the cast goes on that one and if it's maskable with a tiny bit of their tinted spf 41
Fragrance is NEVER good to put on skin, especially in a sunscreen. Always always stay away from fragrance.
Mkeeley13 dr dray has entered the chat
@@karenwalker8682 lol. I personally like this girl's channel better.
Saved by grace Dermatologists say fragrance is sensitizing. My understanding is, even if the scent doesn't irritate your skin when you wear it, you can wake up one day suddenly sensitive to EVERYTHING. Same happens to some people with chemical sunscreens. HTH
I think something like this happened to me. I used to wear super cheap drugstore makeup all the time, NO problems with any ingredients. One day when i was 21 my eyes did a 180 and EVERYTHING made them burn. To this day i can’t wear anything w/ fragrance, chemical UV filters, or essential oils. My skin and eyes are soooo sensitive and it’s awful 😭
iceunelle yep, same here, I'm sorry that happened to you. It's sad how companies push these products filled with sensitizing fragrance just to sell more product.
I don't like the Australian Gold untinted because I can never get rid of the cast. I wear the tinted one every single day. I just use it as my Foundation because it's too hot here to put foundation over it. I put a little powder and a little blush and go! I think it looks pretty good. My favorite untinted is the Biore UV Aqua rich watery essence.
Cheryl Anne I just ordered the biore UV aqua gel off ebay and it is a dream!
allbutgrey I like it because you can wear makeup over it if you want and it doesn't affect it at all. But usually I really don't like Foundation and then I have the choice of the tinted or not, depending on how much I expect to be sweating!
Yes! my memory of the tinted AG was much more favorable. I agree with you--the Biore has been a long time favorite of mine when including all filters! I've since found some others I like even more, but that'll be for another day if i get around to a chemical version of this video!
Nora LG I think it's chemical.
Not enough zinc oxide to block sufficient UVA rays. I'd be rated as PA++ in Asia. Zinc is useful above 20% in anti aging
Have you tried some of 100% Pure spfs?
Great review! thanks
So if you are going to get a nose job you know; consider this one...Love it. Great video. I'd love to see more mineral Asian sunscreen reviews. I just ordered my first Asian sun screen so we'll see. Chemical ones always get in my eyes.
I am currently using the Australian Gold tinted version and there is no smell and dries to a matte powdery finish. Great for my oily skin!
Me too. The non tinted one feels more like a body sunscreen. For me, the Australian gold is the best choice
I have and been enjoying the Cotz Tinted and the CeraVe Ultra-Light Face Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30, Cotz works great as a primer under my makeup.
agreed! i was impressed with its performance under makeup. wore it all day when i did the video and it held everything in place nicely (just don't touch your face :))
Which one is for dry senstive skin.thanks
Australian gold botanicals has a fragrance free kids version, I have not tried it though
Hello, great video! I have the Australian Gold tinted, no strong scent, but a scent that reminds me of school glue (like Elmers). I have combination skin, prone to breakouts and I find this a little drying.
I’ve been wanting to try the Elta MD and will probably order some next.
A review of chemical sunscreen, especially Asian sunscreens would be appreciated 😊
yessss i think that's going to be a future video for sure! may be a while though... i've got sunscreen overload for now lol
You should try the Colorscience face and body sunscreens. I really love them! Also the clinique SPF 50 Pep start one is a physical SPF that blends in wonderfully!
Thanks for the suggestion!
You can use the children’s version of the Australian Gold. It’s fragrance free.
Hi jo, impressed with ur video, I'm having dry skin and my complexion is fair so can i go with eltaMD? Can u please suggest me this is the first time I'm using sunscreen and i dont know anything about sunscreens learned a lot from ur video. Can i go with elta MD?
Don't go for UV physical, it will be too dry for you. Go and search which elta md sunscreen is for dry skin.
Try the Paula’s Choice Super Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30! I love that theres a tint and feels super light weight, hence the name
I like your videos a lot. Recently, I am quite confused about whether I should use my makeup from LA Girl with Mineral oil in it. I have heard both negative and positive comment on mineral oil, so if possible, could you plases leave a quick comment?
thanks! i would not be worried about that. i mean, it's in la mer (even though i think la mer is marketing hooey, i trust that people generally still enjoy that product and have had no issue with the mineral oil)
It's really funny how thatAustralian Botanical is not really avaible here in Australia. I can't find it here in Sydney
love the australian gold one and the elta md , did ordered the drunkE sheer one cuz the tinted one at least on my skin cant use nothing underneath cuz its pealing off .
Sorry, one more comment: How does everyone like the Farmacy Green Screen SPF 30? I liked it except it's not sweat-resistant ran into my eyes. I think for winter it will be perfect, especially with the protection from indirect and blue lighting. I love the Green Clean cleansing balm (which I noticed is made in Korea).
Hi, Joanna! New subscriber. I finally found your channel! I think UA-cam knows I watch mineral sunscreen testing videos - and Asian beauty bloggers. That took awhile for YT to figure out. ☹️ I watch Gothamista, Serein Wu and Judy C. a lot. Judy C. has the best eyeshadow tutorials anywhere, especially for Asian and hooded eyes. Finally, found a cut crease technique that works for my 47 year old peepers.
aw thank you and welcome!!! love the suggestions too :)
Love mineral sunscreens but i can never find one that is cosmetically elegant plus it works.
I've been using the MD Solar Mineral Sunscreen if you are still looking for something new out there. Seems like it has everything you mentioned in this video.
I’ve been using the md solar sciences mineral moisture and it’s awesome!
Jo - have you tried Elta MD UV elements? I am curious how it compares to the UV 41
Have not tried that one yet! Sorry!
I live in Vietnam and summer here is super hot and humid. I also have combo skin (which is more on the oilier side) and Elta MD Physical SPF 41 is my fav too :))))))))). It stays all day on my skin, matte finish but not drying.
great to hear! i haven't tested it in the outdoor summer conditions, but good to know it's a trooper
Jo's Logic vs Luxury yes, I can say I have nothing to complain about it for a physical sunscreen ;)
Bác ơi review kĩ hơn về elta md đc hem ạ. E da hỗn hợp dầu, muốn tìm kcn vật lí cho mùa đông để vừa k bị khô quá mà vừa nâng tone khỏi phải makeup luôn mà khó quá :((
có bóng dầu không bạn, và có làm da bị tối đi nhiều ko ?
Hi Joanna, long-time lurker and avid fan here 😉. Have you tried the MD SolarSciences spf 50 (untinted)? It’s my fav physical sunscreen after all these years and very much like the EltaMD in that it is meant for super sensitive skin. Would love to hear your thoughts on how that compares with the EltaMD one (which I still haven’t tried). Also, has anyone except me felt that whenever they apply Drunk Elephant’s sunscreen (I am using the tinted one, which applies a bit dark but actually blends nicely 20 min later), they SWEAT in that area like crazy? At first I thought it was just the heat but I tested it on half my face multiple times and lo and behold, each time there would be a visible sheen of sweat on my upper lip and forehead on that side.
omggg hiiii :DDD I actually HAVE used the MDSolarSciences in SPF 50 and I really disliked it!! this was like 3+ years ago, but you and one other commenter have mentioned really liking it so i'm tempted to try the SPF30. My memory of the MDSC SPF50 was that it was SUPER slippery (like the Cotz, but felt like it was shifty and would kind of streak under makeup).
also, the DE--yes! i thought it was just sweating off the face, but i've never tried it side by side with others to see if it does cause more sweating. But i have totally noticed that with the DE.
Jo's Logic vs Luxury yeah the MDSS one is very siliconey. >.
It would be helpful if you also mentioned your skin tone/foundation shades :) wondering if that tinted physical elta md works for my skin tone & type.
I have oily skin and lives in a humid country but I hate that etude house sunscreen. It leaves horrible white cast on me (im medium skin tone between nc30 & nc35) and the finish is very unflattering, dry and blegh. I find it too drying despite my very oily skin. What i find that works for my skin is somebymi truecica mineral. It is a really nice & elegant all mineral sunscreen. Such an underrated sunscreen! Affordable, feels like nothing on the skin & no noticeable white cast on me! WIN
I have combi to oily skin, too. I would like to try somebymi sunscreen. I also live in tropical country.
You should try/ review the Apieu pure sun block SPF 50 both the blue and orange tubes. Neither have the white cast like the mild SPF 32. I’ve been using both since the end of last year due to fiddysails recommendation💖
Are these mineral? I also have the apieu pure block natural spf 45 and its chemical but a really good one. One of my favs
The tinted version of Australian Gold has no scent.
it does have a very strong smell, because they have some plum extract or something, hence it gives the smell. but no linalool or whatever the "official" fragrance ingredients
To me it reminds me of play doh 🙂
great video!!! I love the way you explain everything so I just subscribe to your chanel and I've been watching you since yesterday and it's been so fun. Please if you can do a video about just drug store mineral suncreen (no white cast - inexpensive - matte finish) that woul be very helpful!!! I'm a stay at home mom so I'm on a buget.
thanks for sharing whit us all of this amazing information 😘
Great idea!!! I always love a bargain :)
thanks you are great!!!
Have you ever used the Australian gold, the one in this video, under foundation.Just wanted to know,if it messed up,your makeup in anyway.
I've layered the Australian Gold SPF 70 under a discontinued Bare Minerals BB cream and it worked. I still need to try it under Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue and under the Bare Minerals loose mineral powder. I do layer the Austrailian Gold SPF 50 tinted face cream over the SPF 70 and that works. I like that the Australian Gold stays put and does not pill. I have had malignant melanoma so I really want my sunscreen to stay on my skin so I am not so concerned about the product not washing off as easily as I want it to stay on during the day. I do put on CeraVe under Australian Gold for moisture.
Sighs in dark skin😕 maybe one day a nice physical sunscreen that doesn’t make me look ashy/lavender will come out but thank you for these reviews! I might try out the etude house one wish me luck😊
I'm darker and the etude house sunprise works well for me. I don't wear foundation so I really need a sunscreen that doesn't leave a cast. I hope it worked out for you. The struggle is real for the melanin blessed!
Supergoop has a physical sunscreen that's dark skin friendly and imagineskincare also has a good one
@@helenahanssens3330 the supergoop one leaves me a bit grey if I've gotten a bit darker, but I do use it in the winter. I will try the imagine one though. Thank you for the recommendation.
tmhenning1 good luck!
If you still struggle I recommend finding a (dark skinned) esthetician with good reviews to help you or to follow some on twitter (@LaBeautyologist, @VeronicaGorgeoi, @tribecalledess @MakeupForWOC, @caveofbeauty. @skinclasshero, @fairyglowmother
The first 3 even have a youtube channel.
Have a good day!
I have some extra tips for if you didn't know: you could add pigment drops to your sunscreen and try buying sunscreen that doesn't have much titanium dioxide because that filter is the one that gives the most white cast. I hope that this helped you.
Hey Joanne, have you tried MDSolarSciences Mineral Creme? They have tinted and untinted versions and they both feel like primer, like the Cotz, but not as heavy feeling. If you buy them at Costco (and not Sephora), the price is really affordable. I liked the spf30 version better than the spf50 version. Also, have you tried EltaMD's UV Elements? What is the difference between it and UV Physical? I would also love to know what you think of the Make PREM sunscreen that Angie says she likes? It seems nice but then it contains Bergamot extract, which I'm sure makes it smell nice but some sites claim it is a photosensitizer (SIGH)...
So, as you can see, I'm not interested in chemical sunscreens, just more, more, more mineral ones...
Hi! I have actually used the MDSC like 3years ago in SPF 50 and really didn't like it! i have a memory of it being slippery (you're right--like the cotz), but more slippery and would kind of break down under makeup! BUT, another commenter has also recommended the SPF30 and now i'm very tempted to try this again!
I think i'll add that, the Elta MD UV Elements, and the MakePrem to my next trial... lol
I definitely like the MDSC spf30 better than the spf50. I thought the spf50 kind of dried out my oily face (in an unflattering, undesirable way, even if you have oily skin, if you know what I mean), and just didn't play nicely with my makeup like the spf30. I now use the spf50 for just my arms/neck/legs and save the spf30 for my face. And huge thanks in advance for your planned future part 2 to this mineral sunscreens roundup!!! XO Julie
The Australian Gold Botanical SPF 50 Mineral Lotion contains eucalyptus oil which is an irritant and can sensitize skin! Some budget-friendly options I like: for my face, Skin Aqua Super Moisture milk SPF50 PA ++++ and for my body, Banana boat for kidz tear free which is a mineral sunscreen.
thank you for sharing! the skin aqua sounds like a nice one!
I believe it's pronounced "coats," as in, it coats the skin. The line over the "o" denotes a hard vowel.
Thank you for this! I’ve been looking for a physical only, water-resistant, on its own, for dry/mature skin, tinted, >spf 50 for outdoor exercise, pool, and beach. It’s a long list but I’m thinking to buy La Roche or Elta MD.
oh yea, LRP is definitely a reliable brand. i'll add one of their products to my testing pool for a future sunscreen vid!
Jo's Logic vs Luxury thank you!!!! Love your channel and content!
Thanks Jo for that review....I love, love love Elta MD UV clear...I have tried so many sunscreens and this came out tops for me.
Thanks for the suggestion!!!
I’ve tried the Cotz and it was too thick I’m in to the Etude House Sunprise I buy it over and over I subscribed! I’m new Hi from SC👋
Julie Barnes Sunprise is definitely first on my personal list of July favorites.
The Australian Gold you used is for the body. That is why you had those results.
Thanks for sharing!
From where how to buy the sunscreen
I'm new to your channel and have found your reviews honest and refreshing. It's also nice to know that you are not doing this as your full source of income, as other youtube reviewers are heavily influenced by the brands they are sponsored by.
Do you find applying sunscreen difficult with the shiseido synchro?
thank you!! for the recent testing, i didn't use it with synchro skin b/c i've been liking a more dewy finish (so some of the new to me products, i haven't used it with that--i used it with the Dior Forever foundation). But, for example with the Elta MD which i have used w/ the synchro before, no issues!
Jo's Logic vs Luxury Oh how do you like the Dior forever foundation? I’ve always wanted to try but find it a bit pricey. My foundation application is similar to yours - not too much but still need it for certain problem areas :)
I received it from the brand so I can't speak to the price. My internal like "ok that's reasonable" price when it comes to foundation is $40, so the retail price is deffo a little eyebrow raising for me--not something I'd pick up on my own in most circumstances. That said, it's definitely a NICE product. I don't have a TON of experience with different foundations, so from my experiences, it's definitely one of the nicer ones. BUT, is it worth the price? Hard to say! I'll be doing a full review with it like i did with the Synchro soon, so at least you can see how it applies and how it wears... and then determine for yourself if it's worth the price. (Or just wait for it to go on sale hehe)
Great - looking forward to your full review! Hope you will combine it with your GRWM a.k.a book/podcast/tv reviews...I really enjoy those.
I find that the last sunscreen had a noticeable white cast though. Maybe because of the lights used for the video?
The drunk elephant one is very moisturizing, blend well with foundations and make up
Ms. Ming lifestyle Is this for the second formulation or the first? The first was so gritty and oily that I am afraid to even try the second one although I do like DE products.
Would you please try the Paula's Choice RESIST Super-light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30?
thanks for the suggestion! believe it or not i ahve never used a PC product! it is about time i try one.
I use etude house and it has a matte airfy finish which i SUPER LOVE. My blotting paper after 9 hrs is only half full vs me using 2 blotting papers if i dont use that sunscreen lol
This review was excellent. I appreciate seeing how much of a cast each of the sunscreens produced. I use mineral, ( Australian Gold) mainly on my body and a combination mineral/ chemical on my face, neck and chest. I may start using all mineral/ chemical. My new hands down favorite is Altruist. I've only been using for a full week but I love it. The value is amazingly good and it protects better than mineral alone on my skin. You can read about online. I purchased it on AmazonUK. It contains Tinosorb A2B.
oh awesome! yeah for sure if you can get the international chemical sunscreens, those are generally better than the physical ones. i'll definitely keep altruist in mind when i'm next abroad or for a future chemical sunscreens video!
I want to add that the Alturist is very effective and moisturizing. I found that during hot weather I cannot use an additiinal moisturizer when using this it and actually need a tad of setting powder.
2/2 1) My favorite sunscreen for under makeup is the Coola Daydream Mineral Primer SPF 30. Skin looks a tad lighter but better even without makeup. It is lightly moisturizing. It is water-resistant which is important in the summer. It comes in a glass bottle, so it's hard to get it all out. The pump clogs. I have to shake it or it will start pilling. 2) The best mineral sunscreen no one talks about is Andalou 1000 Roses Color + Correct SPF 30. It's water-resistant, comes in two shades of sheer tint, and is also great skincare. My skin looks more even overall even on days I don't use this. It needs a little mattifying. I like the NYX Stay Matte Not Flat powder foundation. It pills when I use it with my liquid foundations.
ooh that andalou one sounds interesting!
It’s been said, that you should apply sunscreen by spreading it lightly and evenly on the skin then allowing it to sit on the face to sink in,or pat in into the skin, and then allow it to sink into the skin, instead of rubbing on and in,like you have.If you apply your sunscreen like this everyday, not the correct way.
I notice I sweat more with mineral sunscreens (using it on all exposed areas, not just my face). I literally have to bring wipes and extra deodorant during the summer when I wear mineral. I wonder why that is???
ah! i have definitely noticed this with some... not all. does this happen with the water resistant ones too?
Jo's Logic vs Luxury Hmm, I'm not sure. I'll have to keep a look out for that next time! Ha, the things only spf wearers understand... 😅
Your channel is amazing by the way, so glad to have stumbled upon it :)
Why do you call the drunk elephant a moisturizer? I thought it was just a sunscreen. Does it have enough ingredients to substitute a moisturizer as well?
Thanks for your review. I only use physical sunscreens and am always on the hunt for the “one”... have you tried Make p:rem UV defense me? I enjoy this one a lot. Before I was using the Elta MD that you mentioned on your video, but since I am a lot more tanned than you, the tint always looked a little weird on me.
i have use the Make Prem but not the mineral version. It's definitely another on my list as i think the chemical sunscreens they make are great--plus i really enjoy the packaging hehe
purito comfy water sun block is amazing...
Have you tried the Clinique SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen Fluid For Face? It doesn't have fragrance, its liquid like the Etude House, and it's not very drying on my dry dehydrated skin.
I have not but now I’d definitely like to!
Very much appreciated!!!! 😆😆😆😆👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hey- just discovered you! Lovely you and your reviews!! Do you know if Elta MD Physical will leave a cast in Indian Brown Skin? Will it fade after sometime? I am in desperate need of a physical sunscreen. Chemical ones sting and I don't want to deal with it anymore. Please help.
It does not fade, i am medium tone asian, even on my light yellow skin, it does leave me a slightly white cast
What a great video! I have been using the Elta MD UV Clear in SPF 46 and really like it. I am pretty tan and as long as I rub it in well it settles in without a white cast. You are right about the pilling aspect, but I find if I work it in well and not mess with it once it dries it’s fine. Thanks for the video 👍
Thanks for the tip and comment! :)
The Australian Gold tinted has virtually no fragrance. My only problem with it is that it tends to be a bit drying, but because of the good price point and ingredients I use it with other products and it works great on my mature/dry skin.
Good! i definitely remember liking the tinted AG whereas this untinted one, i ahve to say the scent biased me from the get go! I don't know why they'd make it with that scent! sheeeeesh.
Jo's Logic vs Luxury I have the untinted version for the body and the fragrance is awful. I definitely won’t repurchase. But the price is right and it works...
I wear a skin serum and CeraVe under the Australian Gold tinted SPF and it helps.
I really like this video! It is super informative and I like how you really use the actual amount of sunscreen we need to apply, I hope you will make another video like this in the future 👍
May I give you any suggestions?
•Clinique Mineral sunscreen fluid for face (I guess it has SPF 30 and SPF 50 version, and it has a body version too)
•Paula's Choice Calm Redness Relief Mineral Moisturizer SPF 30 (but it's quite pricey tho)
•Make P:rem UV defense me mineral sunscreen (it has 2 type of texture, cream and fluid)
I hope you will do another video about chemical (organic) sunscreen or hybrid sunscreen later!
The issue about chemical sunscreen review that I've seen is that they don't really describe the finish of the sunscreen, i've tried quite many of them and a lot of them give me shiny look that is super unactractive on my face:")
Awesome suggestions! I know Clinique isn’t as popular a brand on UA-cam but it’s such a classic. I should def include that in a future vid
Jo's Logic vs Luxury Woah thank you for replying and considering my suggestion! Can't wait for your next video thoo👐
Doesn’t the Australian Gold have a lot of ALUMINIUM content? In Europe there’s been a lot of scare about aluminium in products such as deodorants and aluminium is thought to present a health hazard potentially............
Evidence please. Links to studies would be helpful, thank you.
Does the elta md wash off easily?
Yes, very easily
you should try Jack Black Oil-Free Sun Guard SPF 45 :)!!!!!
yeeeesssss, I have it and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Australian Gold is very drying.
is the eltamd one suitable for dry skin?? the australian gold one is toooooo drying
The Eltamd is a bit drying if you have dry skin. I apply a moisturizer prior which helps.
@@intp5861 thanks a lot...I guess ill have to go with the colorscience one nothing seems to work for me ...they either never dry down or are too drying
@@theclassicalgirl It's hard to find a mineral sunscreen that's not drying for me. I just got the colorescience, but I haven't tried it yet. It seems that one would be more hydrating.
@@intp5861 i have the coppertone pure and simple and this one is driving me crazy....it NEVER dries down no matter what and it transfers like theres no tomorrow...I cant feel comfortable wearing makeup on.top of it knowing that it will rub off ....and i really am surprised that everybody likes it
@@intp5861 ur right...let me know how it performs:)
Thanks so much for this review. Elta MD 47 (untinted) is the one that I consistantly reach for. Second is the Coola SPF 30 mineral BB cream. I actually like it better. It's a nice moisturizing mousse. But the price point is higher so on lazy mornings when I don't feel like opening two sunscreens (face and body) I just do Elta MD all over. Too many products/steps with hair and makeup. Simplify!
Also don't forget to apply to your ears. I have Disciod Skin Lupus which is highly photorective and developed a DSL rash on my ear from the UVA coming through my car window (since I don't wear a hat driving and wasn't applying sunscreen there!)
Green Beaver SPF 40 Sunscreen is good for dry skin and leaves no white cast!!! Best natural sun screen for my skin type.
Sierra S Hi! What is your skin shade? I'm desperate for a mineral ss with minimal whitecast!!
Ana Pebble hey I and my partner are Indian - would say we're light medium to medium and we both like the sunscreen. I think it's a Canadian company and I found it for a good price at Winner's actually. Like $11-14.
We were very pleasantly surprised.
Sierra S Awesome, thanks! I'll have to give it a try then :)
I really just need to try the Elta MD. I've wasted so much money on less than satisfactory sunscreens but I just need to finish my IT cosmetics anti-aging armor before I buy it. It sounds similar in consistency to the Etude house that you talked about but it has such a full coverage tint that leans gray that I can't wear it by itself because I look dead
ay mcfl Hey i wanna give you an insight of elta md uv physical sunscreen, first, it is good only if your skin color match the tint (my skin look ashy dull because of the tint), second, if you have textured skin you might don't like it since it will accentuate the uneven texture on your skin (in my experience, the whitehead, blackhead and dry patches on my face looks super prominence after using this in 2 to 3 hours after application), third, as she mention in the video, the sunscreen pills.
That's it, i hope it helps tho. Because personally, i don't like the product as I mentioned the downside of it above and it's quite pricey...
Hanami makes a good point! I feel if you’re a darker skin tone, it might not work as well as for me!
I have the Elat MD SPF41. Unfortunately it is still too dry for my skin. I'm currently using Vanicream SPF30. It is not drying for me, but it has a shiny finish and leaves a white cast. I've tried a lot of tinted and untinted sunscreens. Personally I'd rather use an untinted one(and have a white cast), because the tint always transfers onto my clothes and leaves a stain.
Oh I hear you. Esp in summer when wearing a lot of white hehe. I just thoroughly wash my hands and also use only untinted for the rest of my body.
Have you tried the josie maran suncsreen untinted and farmacy green spf 30...Both are great for very dry skin .
Thanks for the recommendations. I have very dry and sensitive skin. Things like fragrance, plant extract, beeswax etc. tend to irritate my skin, esp when I constantly apply them on my face everyday...
S W yes give it a farmacy n josie maran a shot. works very well with dry skin. no white cast at all
The tinted version contains an inactive ingredient called iron oxide , which gives protection against the visible spectrum of light that contributes to melanoma and dark spots
It's not really fair comparing high and low SPFs together. The higher spfs are going to have more white cast and more likely to be greasy. It's hard to make a high spf sunscreen that's also cosmetically elegant.
From experience I thought the drunk elephant was greasy af 🤨 a lot of oils in this formula
