Technique of the Week 'Foil Art' 2008

- This week i am showing you how to create an artwork using just ordinary Aluminum Foil from your kitchen. This technique is especially good for those people who have no inspiration of what to paint but want to be creative!
This technique is a fun way for beginners to experiment with textures, composition and colour in a non treating way...So go have fun and post a response video with some of your creations..as i'd love to see!
Materials List:
Aluminum Foil
Glue Stick
Bitumen (the stuff you use to paint on metal to stop it from rusting)
Collage or textured paper
Spray paint
Acrylic
White spirits or terpentine!

That's great, I love using foil in my art...so I always enjoy, new ideas on how to use it.
Hi Gary - this was very inspirational. I couldn't find Bitumen in US so I just used brown acrylic stain and it worked well. I used canvas to put it all on too. Mine ended up being much more feminine (wish I could post a pic but don't know how here). Anyway, don't care about the music one way or other - just loved the technique and mine was totally different in the end but enjoyed the technique. Thanks so much. lchristoffer.

Gary, you are an excellent teacher....I know you don't think you are a teacher...but you are, and you explain things so well....slow and easy, I love your work, I have moved in the direction of simple abstract art ..using (junk) ...I always loved abstract, as soon as I get something done I will post them. But I wanted to say how much I love your art. I plan to do a few of these on small boards and try one on a big board.
I also love the work with the CitriSolv...gonna try that this weekend... Keep up the awesome work...

first of all, I totally love it! But make sure you use turpentine outside, it is even more deadly because it has no smell, lost one of my favorite painter to it, please be careful yourself--your art is awesome keep it up!

Love the work and the video....but I really liked that kitty, too! Hmmm....come to think of it....I once did a texture piece over a kitty I painted. Why do we all keep hiding our kitties?

It's a mix of a 90's track "Everybody's Free" by Rozalla and "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay (late 1990's I think).

nice lesson capricorn, I made some textured compositions using textile collages,see my "transylvanian night" and "the circle of life and death in the mirror" for instance.

Great video and wonderful work. Have you ever put bitumen on paper (like watercolor paper) and do you know if it is acidic or if it will damage paper?
