My parents went to Italy when I was young, a few years before my mother died. She came back with beautiful sunglasses that she wore for the rest of her life, they are in so many pictures from her final years. She told me she'd spent a fortune on them. I asked why, and she put her chin up with dignity and said the man who sold them to her made her feel beautiful.
We had very little money but we'd gotten an inheritance. I'm so glad she spent the money that way.

..."the man who sold them to her made her feel beautiful." I don't know why that remark made my eyes well up thinking of my mother and sisters, whom I miss so much! May we all have a moment or two when we feel impossibly gorgeous, and may the memories of such days not soon fade,

As a person who lives in a hot climate I loved this. I hate that all hot weather videos are like “vacation” clothes. Like…people live where you vacation. Work, date , etc. and they need clothes and outfits not just vacation clothes. Does this make sense?

    • @wavyjenny602
      @wavyjenny602 3 місяці тому +15

I also find that in many videos even if I really like the clothes the influencer is wearing, when I go to look at buying them I find they are polyester, nylon or acetate, or some other mix of horrendous synthetic fabrics that I wouldn’t dream of wearing, especially in summer, unless I wanted to turn up somewhere looking like a sweaty and smelly mess! 😂 So many short polyester dresses with massive long sleeves and high necklines that would just be suffocating in the heat. Dressing for a normal day out, supermarket shopping, cooking, cleaning, commuting and working in very hot and humid climates is definitely a challenge!

@@travellingfemme Acrylic making a comeback is wild to me - I've heard the technology has gotten better since its initially crunchy flaky plastic days, but I'm too scarred to try it even in a blend lol.

Alyssa, this is a great video. My philosophy for many years has been that a good bag, good shoes and a good blow dry can take you just about anywhere. When I'm short on time or it's just too hot, I sub the blowdry for a neat bun. I think some lipstick and a pair of sunglasses is about all the make up you need in the summer as well. Enjoy your trip.

Raised in Dublin, lived in London, now in Vancouver, I find most Canadians can't be bothered to dress well or appropriately. Athleisure wear, a sloppy alternative, has taken the place of everyday, and there's very little that's stylish going on. There's also very little choice between fast fashion (Zara, H&M) and the high end, (Max Mara, Kors, etc) It's a testament to the lack of fashion sense, that so many retail clothing stores either close down, or won't even take the chance of opening a store here😢 To be fair, I'm speaking of Vancouver, so it may be different in Toronto, and I've heard that Montreal has more of a French vibe so things may be better there....

@@mmcs4973sadly, the same in the US. Even in Washington, DC I find that most are solely dressing for comfort regardless of age. I am surprised at the number of positive comments I get on my very casual and understated outfits that are nothing more than a bit of styling, classic jewelry, and a deliberate approach to hair and make-up. All low maintenance and comfortable but with intention.

To me, it also seems that the Italians have fewer age-related fashion rules, as you will find older women wearing sexy looks in showing a bit more skin (shoulders, etc.), that older women tend not to do in the states.
Italians hold onto their sense of feminine sexiness and seem to find a lot of fun in expressing it.

Overall I prefer Parisian style to Italian style, I am Italian myself but I find Italian style generally heavier and a bit conventional, at least as seen from afar in YT street style videos. I haven't been in Italy for a long time. I love French "effortless" style and simple, modern chic. I grew up in Italy in the 70s and I have a soft spot for the 70s fashion I wore as a child, I still wear similar clothes now age 58 - blue and white jeans, A-line denim skirts, denim trucker jackets, gladiator sandals, gingham button-down shirts, corduroy trousers, striped tops, great knits.

My American husband was a consultant for Fiat for a year. I visited during my vacations. We loved the city. The chocolate shops at Easter are spectacular. Before he returned home for good, my husband went into 5 different shops and asked for a box of whatever they did best. We invited friends to a chocolate tasting party when he got home. And I only drink Lavazza coffee now. My ode to Turin in Florida.

They wear sunglasses that suit the shape of their face - I'd recommend shopping with another person because it's easy to buy the wrong item - use the staff in the store and you get great help and useful advice I do that buying clothes and shoes that is worth paying for

Thank you, Alyssa. I enjoyed this video and learned a lot. I live in a tropical area where it's difficult to add visual interest through layers or textures. However, I've come to rely on accessories, especially sunglasses. Thanks to your video, I'm encouraged to play with accessories and sandals.

This was terrific, and I will watch again as your ideas are inspiring. I have been watching Milan street style on Milan On Trend (there are others). It is my mostly fantasy dressing style as I live on a dirt road in Northern California.

I live in Udine, Nothern Italy. It is unbearably hot and humid here in summer, nevertheless, Italian women dress up in black tight trousers and fitted jackets (at least, the majority of them). I prefer to wear linen trousers and loose shirts, because you don't get too sweaty wearing them😂 However, I enjoy observing older ladies 60+ here, they are far too more elegant than in my motherland 😅

I love to hear you speak Italian. Italian dressing is so interesting to me. I’d like to know what they typically have in their wardrobe. For example, what are the staples pieces they have? Have a wonderful time on holiday Alyssa ❤

Loved this from Italy since I was there in May. I am totally embracing the accessories for summer. From simpler, smaller handbags to my new large basket bag from Sézane. Sneakers, too, are a big must for me in cool styles and embellishments. Oh, and always a great array of sunnies. Love it all!!❤🎉

Hi Alyssa, thank you for this great video. I live in Germany and here most people just want to be comfy and do not bother about elegance.
My grandmother was different. She loved good clothing and had very special bags like a little metal bag for special occasions.
I love this video abt Italian style!! I am petite and it is difficult to find good quality clothing for petites here. So therefore I have less clothing and more accessories. I agree it is more sustainable. I am retired and grow my own vegetables, but I always dress up when I go shopping and I notice that it makes me feel great and more being me.
Thank you so much for this video and thank you for showing also older women and women of different body types. I was very busy lately but I am looking forward to your next shop your closet event.
You are doing such a great job.

Hello from beautiful Roma! Alyssa you're right sunglasses can really make the difrence in an outfit, the problem is....they're really expensive! I have a classic turtleshell pair that I use all the time. Also because I'm short-sighted wich makes them even more expensive.

I especially liked your perspective on using jewelry with a simple summer outfit to serve as a form of layering, when layering of clothing is not practical, due to the heat.

Love these travel vlogs. It's great to look outside your own environment and see what other people on the street are doing. Winter where I am, cold, so it's nice to look forward to warm weather. As it happens I have been layering a lot during the summer with light open shirts as a shacket (hope this is spelt right) to keep sun off me.
