Awesome review George. I have the ranger green version. I had the 12 2.0 to review and the 24 2.0 as well. I think one of the top things to mention about the Rush series as a whole is just how trusted they are by the Forces. Great value for money and build like a tank. When you watch the troops coming home, pretty much all of them will be carrying a Rush series bag. Love your reviews buddy
I am just getting into the EDC world and have been researching like crazy all weekend anything and everything EDC. Just found your channel and it’s helped so much! So much information out there and your videos lay out everything someone needs to know. Keep them comin!
I got the Rush 24, 10+ years ago used it as my travel bag also as my assault pack for field ops and deployments in the Marines Corps, the pack is a beast damage except a strap that broke. I deffinantly took advantage of the ridiculous deal 5.11 had with the transition of gen 1 rush series to the gen 2. Solid product worth the money. Great vid man.
Use mine all the time in UK. Hiking in the woods, work meetings, plumbing tools - it does it all. It gets thrown in the shower ocasionally & always comes back in good shape.
I can testify to the quality. I was using a reg rush 12 for edc. Developed small tear near laptop zipper. 5.11 sent me new 2.0 version as warranty replacement. Was pleased
I bought the Rush 12 2.0 in coyote brown (or Kangaroo, I think Rush calls it) last month after an exhaustive search for my first EDC bag since a North Face Recon I bought new in 2008, which was long before I discovered the crazy world of EDC stuff. Lemme give you another "regular guy" review since I know many of you are trying to decide if you want to buy this bag. Pro -looks amazing and feels very high quality. This bag gets me stoked. If you care about function AND fashion, this bag checks both boxes. I had other popular bags that had great function but I wanted a bag I felt excited about, and not one that just carried my stuff well. Your bag is your buddy, and you want it to look right. -keeps great shape when empty or full. I had the North Face Surge and when it's not loaded it sort of collapses in on itself, and that really bothered me. The Rush 12 holds great shape, and is very rectangular looking all the time, which I like. -stands up on its own so long as it isn’t loaded super weird. Or at least it leans against things very easily, unlike the Surge which falls over no matter what you do. Literally. Always. -Front pockets are so perfectly placed. I have not used a bag with as good of admin pockets. I can't stress this one enough. Amazing front pockets. You'll probably use front pockets on a bag more than any other compartment, so it's critical that they're right. Surge has terrible front pockets. The one front pocket it had was high up and would make the front of the bag top heavy. The other front pockets were cool but you couldn't see into them and figure out what was in there. -zippers are amazing. Pulls are pretty long and it’s very easy to open and close. But they're still tight, and until the Ogio which always felt like the pockets would come open on accident, the Rush zippers are tight, but also easy to open fast. I’m in and out of the admin pocket and stash pocket dozens of times each day and I’m constantly impressed how well they are designed and located. The stash pocket is perfect depth to hold wallets and things like that without them ever falling out. But shallow enough to easily identify what’s what and grab it fast. -all pockets have dual zippers. Looked at some Ospreys and their single zipper design I’m sure would have drove very crazy. -Load straps don't get in the way of daily use, until Osprey bags where this is a constant problem. -can be worn in uniform if you’re military connected. -rugged asf! I have no concern at all beating up this bag. It’s super tough. -not a massive bag. Very nice size tho. But kind of a con too if you need lots of space. Gotta pack the bag smart or you’ll run out of space very fast. Con -kind of small. Does not hold a ton. This is a 24 liter bag. If you carry a lot of stuff, this might be too small. They really should make a 30 liter version. -laptop sleeve is inside main pouch and it’s a real pain to get in and out. I’ve started using the hydration sleeve for my laptop and it’s perfect. I use a 14 inch Dell Latitude laptop. The laptop sleeve is such a pain that I thought it would become a dealbreaker and I'd be back to the research game. Then I discovered that some people use the hydration sleeve instead, and it's just a perfect solution for EDC. -key leash is short. But at least it has one. I use it constantly. The OGIO did not have one. Dealbreaker. -no exterior water bottle pouches. Those are super helpful for stashing bars and little things like trash or whatever. Having to put water bottles in the main compartment is kind of a pro because it keeps the bag very well balanced. Having a heavy water bottle hanging off the side of a bag negatively affects how it carries. I rock a tech pouch to hold laptop charger, external hard drive, usb drives, cables, etc and it was a game changer as it made the bag so much easier to use the main compartment. I found some people aren’t into tactical bags. That’s cool. I am. If you are too, this bag will get you excited. When I opened the box and took the bag out, I was in love immediately. Sounds lame maybe, but if you're a backpack geek, you know what I'm talking about. But so far I love this bag! I've been using 5.11 RUSH series for several years, they're functional and really well made. Good updates to the 2.0 but not worth upgrading for me. The 5.11 COVRT 2.0 looks to have all the function but less tactical looking (no MOLLE) on the outside. George, thanks for your videos, they're simply the best (better than all the rest)! I'm currently deciding between 5.11 COVRT 2.0, North Face Surge 2021 and Mystery Ranch Urban Assault 24.
I've never been into this company's bags, because they seemed stuck in one mindset. When the fine folks at First Tactical left 5.11 to start their own business they implemented a lot versatility into their bags. Moveable compression straps and fasteners that can be moved to replace broken fasteners. I really like my Specialist Half Day Pack from First Tactical. Thanks for an interesting review as always. Man I've been going back and forth trying to find the best EDC bag, but after I see what these bags have to offer but nothing comes close to this. The pocket compartments sold me on this edc, also the price.
I prefer the original. Why? Just for the smallest things. Really, either version is good. But with the 2.0, they stitched up the hydration hose outlets(one either side of grab handle.) I instead have a 26,800 Anker powerbank inside the bag, and routed the USB-Cout of those hydration holes. I thought it was useful, as the bigger powerbanks can be very expensive. The CCW is good, can use one finger to open the velcro. The last thing is this:COLORS. I am in the minority, I do not like ranger green / foliage color. I prefer the tac OD which is no longer available in the RUSH 2.0 anymore, at least where I am from. Conclusion, the best bang for your buck.
5.11 rush 12 2.0 and North Face Recon, which one is better in your opinion? Would you mind to point some detail comparison between them? Thanks for lots of detail reviews George.

Do you know what kind of nylon this is? Cordura fabric or ballistic nylon? Is it necessary considering the materials in 24 liters bagpacks so much? Isnt in this case 500D Cordura enough? I mean you cannot put soo much weight in this bagpack.. And which bagpack can you recommend more in the same size and in terms of durability in this price range, lets say up to 130$?
these are hitting for 79.99 on Amazon right now, I really like the bigger one the 72 rush that's 55L (143$ right now) thought about getting it for travel but I think Im good with my new 2017 recon that's on the way. I don't know man, I have been using the Rush for yeeeeeears, unless they did a cheaper quality in this, the bag has been through hell and back. I guess I feel like you aren't giving it a fair shake calling it budget, etc? Can you give me an idea of what you would consider premium so I can compare? Not at all throwing shade, this is probably the best review I have seen of any 5.11 gear so I really really dig it. I think one thing you may have also missed on is the laptop space has like a suspension feature, I was curious to see if they have improved the water resistance on the bottom? The bottom has been pretty thin.
I called it budget because you can buy one for $80. When I said budget I didn't mean cheap or poor quality. If you ask me what a premium pack is, I would point you to a Mystery Ranch 3 Day Assault. Similar style but I think that most would agree that there is improvement in quality and features.

Please review rush 24 2.0
Please review Rush 24 2.0
Does the Rush 12 2.0 have a hydration bladder pocket?
these are hitting for 79.99 on Amazon right now, I really like the bigger one the 72 rush that's 55L (143$ right now) thought about getting it for travel but I think Im good with my new 2017 recon that's on the way. Plus one of my friends bought me a newer recon that's on the way too for my bday that I'm gonna exchange for something because he didn't know I had already ordered the better older one.... I'm gonna use that credit and some to get the router for travel I think.
Hey George What’s Up!!! It’s Your Boy Tim W. In San Diego, California. Just a Quick Question: Which Edition of the 5.11 Rush 12 Backpack Do You Prefer? Do You Prefer the 5.11 Rush 12 1.0 Edition or Do You Prefer the 5.11 Rush 12 2.0 Edition.
I have both 5.11 Rush 12 Editions and for Me it’s a “DEAD TIE”.
Holla Back at Cha’ Boy at Your Convenience.

Goerge you plan on doing the AER travel 2 sling?....i need to see you review that thing before i pull on it
I don't have one.... Sorry man
I don't know man, I have been using the Rush for yeeeeeears, unless they did a cheaper quality in this, the bag has been through hell and back.
I am gonna hit that bag playlist - great video man, well done.
I called it budget because you can buy one for $80. When I said budget I didn't mean cheap or poor quality. If you ask me what a premium pack is, I would point you to a Mystery Ranch 3 Day Assault. Similar style but I think that most would agree that there is improvement in quality and features.
Excellent intro.!!!
Nice vid, bag is too tactical for me but I think it is cool.
Are you going to do a review of the 5.11 Covrt 18 2.0?
Maybe in the future.. I can't say for sure
Between Rush 12 2.0 and Dust mkII , which one is better ?
Coruda 500D of Dust mkII could be durable than 1000D of Rush ?
Tough choice.. I couldn't choose.
I think this seems like it can take more than 24L actually
I want a higher end bag that has these features and is this thought out
How does this compare to the 5.11 AMP12 or the COVRT18? I can’t find anything comparing the RUSH12 and AMP12
Those are more feature rich packs. I did a review of one of the AMP packs wasn't my favorite back panel.
100 dollars is a steal!!!
Subscribed as soon as you mentioned Texas. Keep up the good work!!
Can you compare it with the AMP 10?
Let me see if I can get a hold of one.
You forgot the bottom of the bag where you can lash a bedroll with those 4 straps. Great bag though.
Yep sure did.. thanks
Good review but something is missing....Irene!!
She is coming soon.. lol
Better than the Vertx Ready pack 2.0 and gamut 2.0?
I don't think they are can be compared because those bags are $70 - $100 more. But if you ask be which is better Vertx
Finally
This is what I ultimately chose.
"What do you do" Lol
Your tastes are getting too boutique when you call this a budget bag
Okay, What would you consider budget?
*PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT*
Hey George,
I’ve been watching your channel for a bit now to get into great gear! I wanted to say I enjoy your videos a ton and you’re killing the review game man! 👏🏽
I came across a great looking back looks SUPER underrated and I feel like it’s a sleeper. Nobody has done any good reviews on it and would love to see your thoughts on it.
*COULD YOU PLEASE DO A REVIEW ON THE LANDER COMMUTER 25L BACKPACK?!?!*
The bag is very affordable without compromising durability and it has a nice sweet spot on the size being 25L. I feel like it has so much potential and it’s a bag that could make it big!
I got one of thier packs coming...
The nitro is way better
Oh.. and George, GET A SMALLER LAPTOP!!! 17 inches? Really? C'mon my Guy!
My gripes - insanely too stiff at a 1000d. Too heavy at Over 3 pounds empty will be 5 to 6 pounds on your shoulders and back when filled.
Gotta tune down the military just a bit, need to blend. Also great thumbnail
They make some similar bags that are much less military looking.
When you wait for the 20% off 5.11 sale that happens multiple times/yr, this bag is a STEAL!
So pretty much nothing changed but one pocket 😳.
5.11 had a chance to really do something nice and they blew it🙄
right... If they put at least water bottle pockets i would of got it.
Changes from the original version are the fleece lined pocket on top was made bigger, the CCW pocket was added and the laptop compartment was added.
