- I was excited to put the new Lumix 50mm S F1.8 through its paces. We take the compact prime to a beautiful garden, portrait photoshoot and along the Jurassic Coast.

I bought this lens for my S5, and I couldn't be happier with it. One aspect of the lens, other than the quality of the image it produces, is how good it feels to shoot with it. It just feels good in one's hand due to the fat focus ring and its construction.

Gorgeous model, excellent cinematography, thoughtful review. Greetings from the U.S. I once owned the 50mm f/1.4 S Pro lens to pair with my Lumix S1R, but the weight was a huge drawback, so I sold the 50mm S Pro to get a lighter option. This lens being $449 USD is an absolute steal, and I will definitely be looking into purchasing.
They’re both excellent 50mm lenses! Did you end up going with the 1.8?

Great video with a very good mood and nice results. This shows how this 50mm is efficient and renders very nicely. No need for the huge 1.4 version ! And on a S1R it must be fantastic too

Can I ask you if you used default camera color profiles or did you color grade those photos? I have Lumix S5II and I would like to know because those colors are amazing 😊
Great video and really nice photos and video, subscribed. I also shoot my portraits on cloudy WB and love natural light. If I get an S5ii, this will be my first lens.
Great video review! I love how this shows the capability of the lens, along with your shooting style. Was the footage of the couple recorded on the Atomos, or in camera?
Thank you! Really appreciate the comment. The footage of the couple was in camera 60p, handheld with the standard profile. I didn’t do anything to it in post ☺️

Great !!! impressive skills in portrait. Congrats ! Very good also to see the S1R AutoFocus Eye Tracking working so well. May I ask your settings for the AF-C ?
I use a variety of the AFC settings depending on what I’m photographing. I use the option to avoid obscuring objects at weddings and the default option for everything else I do :)
@@DrewBuckler it sounds efficient. Let me suggest you to test whenever you can the sigma 35mm f/1.2…
It is the lens that made me stay in the L mount alliance …
@@DidierMOULINPhotography I have owned that lens, it’s beautiful but ultimately traded it in for the 1.4 - purely down to the size.

Came to learn about the Lumix 50/1.8 got totally captivated by Tess.
Just bought this very lens from you, though I'll be pairing it with an S5. It won't have as much resolution as this one has. I find the S5 to be decent all rounder, bar the autofocus. I just couldn't justify the premium for the latest S5 ii (yet, at least).

It’s so sharp! I film the BTS with either an S1 or S5 - so yup, all the same cameras 😊
A bit off topic here, but is the AF better on the S1 model than on the older S5? (and also in comparison to the newer S5 II)
Thank you for your question. I’ve never noticed a difference between the s1 & s5. I’ve not tried the s5ii yet!

I have the 45mm f2.8 Sigma, was a promo with my S5 purchase, and while it has great build quality & is a joy to use, I find that at f2.8 I just don’t end up popping it on that much with a f2.8 zoom already in my bag. This, on the other hand…

Buying the S5II with the Lumix S 50mm F1.8 soon, looks like a very good combo. Still my favorite kit for the S5 would be with the 24-105mm, f/4.0 but can't find it on decent price :)
It’s such a fantastic combo. You can do so much with the 50mm 1.8 and it’s small enough to take everywhere. You’ll love it. The 24-105 is great too but I would actually prefer having a prime!

Thank you! I’ve not actually used the Sigma 50 1.4 because it’s not designed for mirrorless. I’ve only tested the DG DN range. Like the Lumix, they are all excellent!
I am more impressed by the BTS video. Did not see any hunting at all, and tack sharp with beautiful colors.

Thank you! Personally, I’d go with a 50mm. I enjoy portraits but I also want to be able to take images of everything else too. With that being said, my first prime was a 85mm! I only took portraits for a year, though.

Hey so advice i have the lumix s5 with the sigma 85 1.2, should i wait for the 35 1.8 or get this 50 1.8, the 24 mm 1.8 is a bit too wide for me but i want a shorter portrait lens. What do you think as a good all rounder this 50 or the upcoming 35?
The Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN & 35mm 1.4 DG DN are stunning L mount lenses! The F1.8 primes from Lumix are equally awesome, so it really does come down to personal preference. I used an 85mm for the first year of my photography as I’ve always enjoyed portraits & flowers. If you like wider 50mm is good because you can always take a few photos with it, and then stitch in Lightroom if you need a larger field of view. 24mm is a fun focal length, I’ve not used the F1.8 yet!

Do you have any opinions on differences between LUMIX S S50 50mm F1.8 L for $447.99, the LUMIX G NS043 42.5mm F1.2 ASPH LEICA DG NOCTICRON Lens for $1197.99 and the LUMIX S X50 50mm F1.4 LEICA Certified L Mount Lens for $2299.99 for the GH5ii? What about the LUMIX S S50 50mm F1.8 L vs the 12-60mm f2.8-4.0 leica lens at 50mm on a GH5ii? Thank you.

@@samlee2944 light rain at weddings and hiking and it’s been totally fine. It’s labelled whether resistant but I’ve had no problems.

@@DrewBuckler I own the 20-60 mm kit lens with my S5 and a Sigma 45mm F2.8 in my S1R, also have the Sigma MC adapter to use Canon lenses. I just watched your other video on the 85mm 1.8 and I really like that one.

@@RunAndGunVisuals I didn't either. I rented the fuji xhs2 with the 150-600 lens to try outdoors and it was awesome. Minus some issues I did see with the auto focus and the weird visuals during zoom in and out. Really cool setup though.

How you compare this one against 50mm dg dn 1.4 ?
I’ve used both for wedding photography and you would never notice a difference in IQ. Just need to decide if you need the f1.4 :)
@@DrewBuckleri've bought it paired with s5. Omg this is just amazing combo. I am thinking to stay only with the 50mm. Maybe think less about gear and use just one lens all time. Let see if it work hehe
