"Chains " keep us together. The band was a mess when they wrote this album. Twisted relationships, unfaithfulness, and deceit was the foundation of this masterpiece album
You seem to always hit it spot on. Lead singer & guitarist were in love to each other & were breaking up at time. They were smart business people & overcame it by putting differences aside & continue to play music together as a group. So glad you found this group. Keep listening to their songs & I know you will put them there right on top of your list with Elvis, that I know you so much love. You won’t be disappointed by any song of theirs, they are all great. That’s why it’s ludicrous to even suggest a song. Take all of them, put in bucket & pull one out. I guarantee it will be great.
It was the basis of the song. They'd been working on a Christine McVie tune and it just wasn't coming together but they loved the bass breakdown. So they kept that and Lindsey went off to see what he could come up with and everyone else chimed in with ideas - the only Fleetwood Mac song credited to all 5 members.
"Is it about a relationship in the band?" Ohhh, you have NO idea... The whole album is a document to the band's imploding relationships. There were two couples and Mick Fleetwood, the drummer. These days, singers drop hate tracks dissing an ex. This lot made their exes sing and play on the damn track...
Awesome song!! Shows contribution from all 5 members. Lindsey leads with Stevie main background but you can hear Christine in harmony too. Mick on drums and John on bass, especially when his solo hits, then Mick, then a bit of Lindsey, all of sudden its everyone!! Chains...keep us together. Recommend Rhiannon, ck out the live version. You'll love it!! Keep up your awesome reactions lady!! 👍❤
In this song, Fleetwood Mac touched the little girl that's still inside you. There's not much of her left, you know. But the magical music of the Mac knows how to find it, and let it shine for a bit. Thank you, Dearie, for making yourself available, so we can see the magic at work. You're beautiful.
I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac. Rumors is their best album. And I LOVE the way you have your hair. It looks so adorable. In Fleetwood Mac they all slept with each other.
No, they did not. Stevie Nicks/Lindsey Buckingham were a couple when they joined the band; they broke up and Stevie dated Mick Fleetwood for a while. John and Christine McVie were married but going through some problems. Neither of them dated within the band.
@@wandaminter9421 - yes, they pretty much all did. Christine has come out and said she had an affair with Lindsey Buckingham. They all were doing drugs and John McVie was an alcoholic. And I wouldn't say little Ms. McVie dated Lindsey; let's just say they screwed each other.
@@SweetThing I did not know that...hmmm. Can you remember where you saw that? I'd love to read it. I mean I knew John McVie's issues with alcohol. And, I knew Christine had a relationship with the band's sound engineer (Martin Birch) and then later, their lighting director (Curry Grant). I never heard of her and Lindsey on a personal level.
You are so awesome and am delighted that you reacted to Fleetwood Mac......they have sooooooooo many great songs......do yourself a favor and react to as many as you can!😁😁👍👍😘
'Rhiannon' happened to be a semi legendary queen of Whales, who we would call these days an enchantress. A witch is just so 'witchy', even Nicks said that once she read the story it took her 15mins to write the song!

When most non rockers think of rock and roll they picture head banging music without knowing that there are so many sub genres of rock. Glad you can appreciate music I've loved for 40+ years.
Girl, your interpretation of the meaning of the song is 100% on point! 👍 I have loved Fleetwood Mac and their catalogue was one of a kind. Thank you for reacting to this song!
Great song! They have a double album, Fleetwood Mac Live, from the early 80s, when they were at the top of their game. It is one of the best live albums I've ever heard, but it didn't really sell like the others did. Anyway, I saw them live right when Rumours was about to debut, opening for the Eagles with new member Joe Walsh right before Hotel California came out. The Chain was one of the memorable songs that day, with I'm So Afraid and Never Going Back Again. Boz Scaggs was the opener, a great day! Thanks for posting Jayy!
Your optimism shone through your interpretation so genuinely--I'm sure you've looked up the band by now and know their relationship dynamics of the time, so you were spot-on about its meaning. You just had an extra hopeful perspective that maybe the band weren't feeling so much at the time :) Music reaction is often like an auditory Rorschach, and it's that part of you that shines through that will earn you more subscribers, I think. Your enthusiasm and positivity are what people are needing more of these days. Best of luck to you!
One of the most talented bands ever assembled. Stevie Nicks an icon and one the best singers and writers of all time. Yet, the band is awesome even without her. That’s just how great they all are. More Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks solo, please!
This is my all time favorite from them... for all the reasons you mentioned... You have one of the best varieties of of music you react to... great reactions ❤️👍🏻
I am lucky enough to have seen them in concert probably 5 times and Stevie alone probably 7 times. They sound just as amazing now. Best show I’ve ever seen them at was at Nikon theatre at Jones Beach on Long Island in NY. It’s an open air, small coliseum on the beach. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
When Fleetwood Mac rolls up, it's all ear candy. unfortunately, Christine McVie just passed, but Stevie is still out touring at 74. I just love them, you'll love all their music, as well as Stevie's solo stuff!!!!!
I love how you picked on all that just from listening to it for the first time. My first time hearing it, I was just blown away by the vocals, the instruments the whole arrangement. You felt all that and the story behind it so fast. Impressive. This song still blows me away after so many years. Every time!!!
Yep - part of my growing up. Blew my mind when I first listened to Rumours because I was like Jayy often is on these reactions. I knew just that one bit.
Mick was such a great drummer. The Chain is an object lesson in how to give your band some space to play in. Nobody is doing too much. Just playing the parts.
Hah!!,you so hit the nail on the head darlin, Stevie and Lindsey, I think were the real, real, so much breaking up, making up, then breaking up again, so there were other relationships within the group, tumultuous, but Stevie girl, definitely broken heart, I think to this day, still, hard feelings, still, but boy did they make good music in the midst of it all. Haven't you heard that the difference between millennials and boomers is that Taylor Swift sings whiny songs about how rotten her exes are and Stevie Nicks made her ex play the guitar while she sang songs about how rotten he is, LOL
Millennial here and hate Swift with a passion. I grew up on Fleetwood Mac and many other bands including Led Zeppelin, Boston, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metallica, and more. I still listen to them all with my soul. Not all of are the same.
Watch almost any live version of "Go Your Own Way" - Stevie grits her teeth and glares at Lindsey every time he sings the "Shacking up is all you want to do" line. If looks could kill there wouldn't be enough of Lindsey left to mail home in an envelope.
This group is iconic you should definitely check out more of their music and also Stevie Nicks has some really awesome songs in her solo career one of my personal favorites is Edge of Seventeen I think you would really enjoy that one

Good job listening to the lyrics. Yeo, they were breaking up. Rumors the album tells you all about it. Buckingham is one of the best, most understated, yet amazing guitarists in pop music history. If you really want to hear him at his best, check out his acoustic work on Never Going Back Again and his solo live versions of Big Love.
All the songs on this album are about the various acrimonious break-ups going on at that time and this song is no exception. It’s about having the will to stick things out for the sake of the band and specifically the songs like links in a chain which also tied Lindsey and Stevie to the band.
Stevie Nicks wrote the main lyrics. She gave them to the band to flesh out the song. Her ex, Lindsey Buckingham, sang lead-to her words-and played lead guitar.
Fleetwood Mac was the very first concert I went to when I was 15 years old. Most of the songs on this album were about the relationship issues between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. And there were problems between married couple Mick Fleetwood and his wife Christine McVie. There was complete turmoil behind the scenes. They all poured their entire emotions into this album and it's still one of the top albums of all time.
Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole "Rumours" album. One of the most significant albums in rock history.
I'll second that. It's great from start to finish.
Still the number 1 album in my eyes. Amazing music

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were a couple. After they broke up they both wrote songs digging at each other. Check out “Go Your Own Way!”
I think Gold Dust Woman was another one of those too. I can’t imagine how awkward touring after that had to be!
Plus, Christine McVie and John McVie got divorced. The whole band was going through it.
And she wrote songs about it to, for example You Make Loving Fun is about Christine McVie’s relationship with their lighting director.
@@elbruces I forgot about them. It amazed us all that they still sang together. Stevie and Lindsey were a lot more toxic.
But they still didn't break the Chain.
The whole Rumors album is about relationships. 'The Chain' is how even when relationships are stressful and breaking, the music and the band keeps them together.
If she goes down the Fleetwood Mac rabbit hole, there are so many to choose from
And taking lots of coke.
"About relationships" is an overly polite euphemism. "Rumours" is an album for, by, and about people cheating on each other.
"Chains " keep us together. The band was a mess when they wrote this album. Twisted relationships, unfaithfulness, and deceit was the foundation of this masterpiece album
All true, BUT they were also brilliant musicians.
This is also, perhaps, the only Fleetwood Mac song where all five of them have writing credit.
It was a Soap opera on wax!
EVERY song on their Rumors album is fire. It may be the greatest album ever made.
