I don't know why having different audiobooks versions with different narrators it's such a heated debate. A narrator can absolutely make of break a book and having the option to choose a different version when you don't vibe with the interpretation is great actually!
Because I assume narrators want to build a portfolio of work. And if you say look here and they look, find other people. They may find better choice. They may think your work is cheap. I also believe that having multiple choices devalues the first narrator. Dunno what the reasons are, but it is not hard to come up with reasons.

The Magicians is actually one of the very few Book-To-Live Actions that I liked better than the books. First season is, as most first seasons, has its ups and downs but they do find their footing and it really takes off.

I often get the audiobook and the physical copy of a title for long books so I can switch back and forth. This happens a lot in the fantasy genre since they tend to be very long.
You should watch The Magicians. I loved it. Any story that starts out with "Magic is real!" and finishes with a casual "Yeah, Whales are sorcerers keeping runes on the floor of the sea up to date to keep a Cythulhu type monster locked up" seem natural and normal over its run time did something right.
If I get the time to go back through WoT, I definitely want to listen to the new version. But Michael Kramer reading "chapter 37: The last battle" is by far the most amazing snippet of audio I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
The Magicians episode "A Life in a Day" has to be one of my all time favorite episodes of any show, across genres. The show definitely falls off the books and has some great highs, as well as some low points, but the writers put together an absolute masterpiece in that episode (Think The Last of Us episode 3).

Funny idea here.... How about the first 2000 - 5000 or so books sold on audible would be more for the author. Then smaller authors would get more for their books enabling smaller creators to receive a living income then enabling more authors to pursue different varieties of books. Then the tiers would parable out to the mega sellers that people making hundreds of thousands to millions would not see a decline in their income. More writers eating, means more books.
Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series is hard to describe because it's epic in every sense of the word. It's Dark Souls before Dark Souls but with a plot you can follow. Nobleman Kain rises up to become a big bad vampire lord and conquers the world, but then gets jealous when one of his lieutenants, Raziel, sprouts wings, and murders him... only for Raziel to be resurrected a thousand years later by an Elder Chaos god that looks like a squid to get revenge by eating souls. Raziel goes around trying to kill Kain, and Zelda style picks up new abilities along the way like gliding, swimming, and magic swords as he kills his former now monstrous brothers one by one. Kain and Raziel cat and mouse their way through multiple encounters, timetravel, paradoxes, multiple planes of existence, alternate worlds and betrayal as they learn the secrets of their world and history. Since the games alternate between the two characters up until the last one where they both co-lead, you get a lot of depth on their different perspectives, the Kain games are more action focused and Raziel is more puzzle based. It takes five games to get to the ending and its a hell of an ending, the payoff is great... but still left room open for more story that we all wanted. AMAZING voice acting with a stacked cast including Michael Bell, Simon Templeman and the late Tony Jay all giving epic philosophical speeches. Written by Amy Hennig who also wrote the Uncharted games.
I've always thought that Templeman would be fantastic in a live action version of the series. He's got the voice, of course, but damn, he's also got the look. I remember seeing him in an episode of Angel, and wondered why the hell haven't the games been filmed yet with him as the titular character.
The Magicians show is one of my favorite pieces of media out there. It takes a bit to get going but really finds its feet along the way. Be ready to fall in love with Elliot. As a hetero/cis man he’s an absolute babe.
best book to tv adaptation ever, and it's not even trying to follow strictly the book's story. It's a masterclass on how to adapt and reimagine a book series to audiovisual
Didn't know there was an adaptation, but I'm definitely going to go looking for it now! I remember when they were released (but not at the library) and "mall culture" was still a thing, I'd go to the bougie bookstore whilst my folks did groceries, carefully read them so not to crease the spine, and make a note of the chapter or page number to continue the next time 🤭
I like 95% agree about the A Song of Ice and Fire covers they do not fit the series at all, but for some reason I still like them a lot and will be getting them in October
I love The Magicians tv show where as I have far more mixed feelings about the books. You do have to kind of get through the early episodes while it was finding it's vibe but know it's worth it just for the musical episodes.
I'm so glad rossmind pike is narrating the Wot books. Personally I cannot stand the kraemers voices. (Don't ask me why, I don't know) but I do love her narration so far

THANK YOU FOR COVERING The Legacy of Kain graphic novel! I hadn't even heard about this. Thanks to you I can support it! One of my favorite game series of all time. Basically, it was Vampire Dark Souls with a game of thrones vibe. The actual gameplay was mostly that very specific genre/era of PS2 action platformer. Somewhere between all those mascot games like Jak and Daxter and the more combat focused ones like God of War. There was also a fair bit of sneaking since you play as either a vampire or a wraith. There are dueling narratives of Kain, the guy who ruined the world by denying fate and his protege, Raziel, who he betrayed, intentionally, who then became the lackey of the Elder God trying to reset the timeline and assassinate Kain. Very Shakespearian and Lovecraftian vibes for the story and dialogue, lots of talk about fate and will and what is right and who has the right. I mean, the fallen Vampire paradise/hellscape they exist in is known as Nosgoth, for fucks sake! I really think you would enjoy it, Daniel. They have trying to been get a new project off the ground for decades but most momentum was lost with the shifting of the rights AND when the VA for the Elder God (same guy who played Count Frolo in Disneys The Hunchback of Notre Dame) passed away. So glad they are doing this. CANNOT WAIT!
Brandon Sanderson finally passed you in subscribers. I don't think his channel would be as big without the exposure you and other UA-camrs gave. Thank you
Glad you got round to reading Sabriel, Daniel! I picked the book out on a whim and was very pleasent ly surprised by it. The rest of the series has a very pleasing development of the lore and stakes! Get into it!
My fiancé has had me watch the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series okay through with him. It’s one of the best written stories I’ve ever come across in any medium. I don’t care for all the visual blood/gore it has but the voice acting and story are EXCELLENT. Like, award winning levels of dialogue. I would highly recommend watching either a full play through or at least some clips for anyone who hasn’t seen it before.
While Dragon Prince took a slight downturn in Season 4, Season 5 managed to get back on track and Season 6 looks incredible, so I would definitely move that up your TBW!
Rosemund Pike narrating WoT is amazing and yes I own the Kramer/Reading as well. Loving the updated version just because of the difference in pronunciations that the narrators ran into on the first round I find them much easier to follow, being this the 200th plus listening I’ve had of them as well helps lol. I will absolutely continue to buy more as she puts them out.
Legacy of Kain 2 Soul Reaver was one of my favorite games ever on the PS2! Awesome story I wish there was a way to have every one experience that amazing games story
Definately go Magicians over Dragon Prince. There are so many themes in that show that you pay care and respect to constantly and it is a really fascinating case study in adapation, going from very close to just a free for all in an adapted sandbox.
I'm so excited for more Legacy of Kain. That series was really special, particularly from Soul Reaver onwards; the lore of that setting is fascinating and dark, but what really made the games stand out was their exceptional writing of characters and dialogue. It gave the games this kind of gothic shakespeare vibe that was just awesome, and made even better by absolutely flawless voice acting. The games themselves haven't aged super well in my opinion, just in terms of how their controls etc are mapped, but the story, characters and lore are world class and worth revisiting.
Oh my husband loves the Legacy of Kane, you can find a full movie of just the story buts if the game. It’s really long but it is available. He will be happy to know they’re still doing something with it.
I watched the wrong Labyrinth. Was told it was an 80s children's musical, and instead accidentally watched a beautiful, but VERY bloody Del Toro dark fairy tale.
the magicians tv is one of my favorite shows (up there with fringe and bsg) i haven't read the books but i know they take a decent amount of liberties but this show is just a part of my soul tbh while i can say that with my whole chest the show is definitely not perfect and some things didn't age great. since you read the books ill say you'll see whats coming for the season one finale but still want to trigger warn because it is quite different having that content visually vs in a book. but if you can get past that i think the show works really hard to actually deal with that plot in a way i had not seen before on screen.
Legacy of Kain!! That is one of my favourite game series. Daniel, I think you'd really like it! It has such a deep lore, character lore and growth, time travel, vampires, crusaders, magic...it's just amazing. PLEASE play it!
No watch The Magicians; I literally have a tattoo from it. It is different from the books but not necessarily in a bad way. Also I haven't watched The Dragon Prince so ...
In five years time, it's going to become common place for employers to ask about swaths of time that cannot be elucidated upon due to contractual obligations with nothing to show for it and we're just going to have to say, "You can ask but I can't tell. Are you gonna hire me or not?"
As a printmaker I think woodcut is a great technique for the style of asoiaf but the designs in this particular case aren’t selling the style. I don’t think the single character focus is good for a cast based book. Also the colors aren’t quite it imo.
I think we need to remember it's OK to like two things at the same time. I adore Michael and Kate's. It hits all the nostalgia yummies. Pikes gives the series a new take, with all the different voices and accents. I have them all and listen to them pretty constantly. Can't wait for The Shadow Rising as it's the collective favorite. I'd be ok with her stopping after, but will buy them all if she continues.
I'm so glad Blood Omen come out of the shadow. I remember beeing a child watching my geek gamer mom playing and helping her resolve puzzles. French voice acting is sooo good and so is the story.
I've been using audible when I can (bootleg ai voice audio books when I can't) and if I like the book, I'll buy the physical copy too. Hearing how bad they are about royalties I'm glad I do this.
But do you think someone who's 18 and knows nothing about the series will anticipate and easy-breezy get through, say, Cersei and Jamie's sick relationship, the Red Wedding, or...ANY of the gruesomeness ASOIAF offers based on the new covers? IMO they're more mid-to-late YA and nowhere near the level of adult that ASOIAF is. Not even close.
@@5GburnI agree with you but there’s only so much they can do at an affordable cost. They look better than the previous versions. Also I feel like just ppl look into a series before they start them.
I knew when brandon sanderson said he reached a deal he thought was good for creators that that meant that it was gonna actually be the complete opposite. mid sized to smaller always get smacked down for the huge ones
The Legacy of Kain is an amazing series. Blood Omen and Soul Reaver need big comebacks and news of the graphic novel gives me hope there is a possibility. Blood Omen scared me because of the Seraphims (I think that’s what they’re called) and Soul Reaver scared me cause enemies won’t die unless you pierce them with a spear or throw them under sunlight. Great stuff back in the day
Definitely give the Dragon Prince another go! S4 was rough and took a nosedive but I think they picked it up again with S5 and even more so it seems with S6! Fantasy News is something I look forward to watching every week, thank you so much for doing this :)
The Game of Thrones book set coming out could definitely be more epic than artsy fartsy! The YA readers will probably love this which is likely the target audience.
Wonder if it’s going to be straight telling of Razels time as Kains main general, leading into the first game. With absolute minimum time travel & such shenanigans but I doubt it. Can’t wait mam, can’t bloody wait.

Petrik Leo…. What a gem. I think he directs some of the art for the bound and the broken series too. Which will be a glorious day when Daniel reads.
I rarely comment on UA-cam vids but I just gotta say I love this series. Daniel your channel is bloody good. Keep doing what you're doing!
The GoT covers feel like how the Harry Potter books had 'adult' covers as well as the normal ones
*ASoIaF
Glad to see the blade and green screen return to your videos
I read "Terminator Zorro" and was disappointed when I heard "Zero" instead 😅
Funny idea here.... How about the first 2000 - 5000 or so books sold on audible would be more for the author. Then smaller authors would get more for their books enabling smaller creators to receive a living income then enabling more authors to pursue different varieties of books. Then the tiers would parable out to the mega sellers that people making hundreds of thousands to millions would not see a decline in their income. More writers eating, means more books.
I really hope Rosamund Pike finishes all of the audiobooks! I can’t listen to Kramer and Reading anymore
I love Elliott so much also Fen just has my heart.
Second the straight male Applemanlust.
best book to tv adaptation ever, and it's not even trying to follow strictly the book's story. It's a masterclass on how to adapt and reimagine a book series to audiovisual
Didn't know there was an adaptation, but I'm definitely going to go looking for it now! I remember when they were released (but not at the library) and "mall culture" was still a thing, I'd go to the bougie bookstore whilst my folks did groceries, carefully read them so not to crease the spine, and make a note of the chapter or page number to continue the next time 🤭
Very pretty new book cover for ASOIAF. You know what would be even better? Winds of Winter.
Man, that Sun Eater art hits me right in the feels…
I really hope we get to see you talk about the magicians show! It's sooo different but really special in its own way!
I'm not judging you, you're judging you. 😁 Having multiple pairs of sunglasses makes perfect adhd sense.
Thanks for the Legacy of Kain shout-out!
It is an absolutely fantastic story and rich world
I am happy these videos are getting around 67K views, but it really should be 670K. The world needs this news.
Hi Jackson 👋🏼 I needed a good laugh this morning 😅 thanks
Hi! :D well I'm glad I got some laughs out of you! Hope your day got better
@@AuthorJacksonDickert Jackson! My day most certainly did get better. Thanks 😌
I'm so glad rossmind pike is narrating the Wot books. Personally I cannot stand the kraemers voices. (Don't ask me why, I don't know) but I do love her narration so far
I like Rosamund pike audio books. I have purchased them. I like my characters to have different voices.
When you said you did a watch along of labyrinth with David Bowie I completely thought you were in a room with him and I, wide eyed, wanted to know how I didn't know this. See how much pull I think you have!
15:53 I'm right there with you. I love the naming conventions of The Fast & The Furious series or the Die Hard movies.
those Game of Thrones covers look like they're intended for graphic novels.
Knowing Rosamund has narrated the first four books now, we're assured someone involved in the show has read the source material.
Incidentally, Power Rangers is probably Boom's best licensed comic book.
I watched the wrong Labyrinth. Was told it was an 80s children's musical, and instead accidentally watched a beautiful, but VERY bloody Del Toro dark fairy tale.
the magicians tv is one of my favorite shows (up there with fringe and bsg) i haven't read the books but i know they take a decent amount of liberties but this show is just a part of my soul tbh
while i can say that with my whole chest the show is definitely not perfect and some things didn't age great. since you read the books ill say you'll see whats coming for the season one finale but still want to trigger warn because it is quite different having that content visually vs in a book. but if you can get past that i think the show works really hard to actually deal with that plot in a way i had not seen before on screen.
I really like the new asoiaf covers but I do agree with you about the aesthetic
I'm here for the segment of you reading Martin's blog with that voice. 100% agree with your take on the covers.
As a printmaker I think woodcut is a great technique for the style of asoiaf but the designs in this particular case aren’t selling the style. I don’t think the single character focus is good for a cast based book. Also the colors aren’t quite it imo.
Legacy of kain in one sentence; Suppose you throw a coin enough times.. suppose one day, it lands on its edge..
Pinky swear is the best kind of swearing imo.
Less than 3 minutes in and the music with the Audible News is killing me 😂😂😂
I look forward to these videos while I'm at work
I'm so glad Blood Omen come out of the shadow. I remember beeing a child watching my geek gamer mom playing and helping her resolve puzzles. French voice acting is sooo good and so is the story.
The dragon prince is epic I can’t wait for season 6!
I've been using audible when I can (bootleg ai voice audio books when I can't) and if I like the book, I'll buy the physical copy too.
Hearing how bad they are about royalties I'm glad I do this.
I’m so happy he’s saying Petrik’s name correctly now lol I think those ASOIF covers are much better
I‘m hoping this also means DCC will be translated to other languages soon…
husky whisper *several colors*
Love the music over the audible update.
Wonder if it’s going to be straight telling of Razels time as Kains main general, leading into the first game. With absolute minimum time travel & such shenanigans but I doubt it. Can’t wait mam, can’t bloody wait.
Magicians Show my dude
