My reaction to GFRIEND's 1theK special performance of Labyrinth is on Patreon! We do live stage and variety show reactions over there so consider joining and checking it out @ patreon.com/formoftherapy
My theory is this is the influence of Hitman Bang (now that GFriend is fully connected with Big Hit) - he decided to connect the storylines in the previous GFriend mvs and tied them in a more overt manner - btw, Bang also wrote two of the songs for GFriend's album.
As a Buddy, at first I was like okay with the song, but it gets better as you listen to it multiples time. I now listen to it almost everyday! I like how it almost sound nostalgic of Gfriend.
I felt the same way about Crossroads. It took a few listens for me to fall in love with it. To be honest, I loved Labyrinth on first listen and I think that this will be the new sound going forward.
Me too. The song is growing on me. I listen all songs in the album on Spotify. My favorite is From Me. Seriously, the quality of this album is on another level.
GFriend is like a breath of fresh air to me. Their entire discography is telling us a story about growing up, from Glass Bead to Crossroads, and it moves me so much. It's more inspiring to me than the typical girl power songs because is about growing together instead of felling like you're superior to others.
As someone who has been a fan of Gfriend for a few years now, this is probably one of my favourite comebacks from them. I love their more melodic songs (Rough and Rainbow are my favourite Gfriend songs) and having such a beautiful orchestral song paired with an amazing music video makes me feel things.
Since you liked the Crossroad scene here's some fun fact: They shot the scene at 3AM and the people behind Eunha are actually the members. The scene arent just the members walking away. It's actually the crossroad choreography from the dance break portion. Minor fact:everyone except eunha shot that scene barefaced xD
I'm a cutesy concept trash and I don't normally like this kind of song but there's something in Crossroad that everytime I listen to it that makes me want to listen to it more and also I noticed that this song make good use of their individual voice color and that's so cool I really liked all their parts especially SinB's first part.
This has been my favorite GFRIEND title, period. Its a perfect encapsulation of their signature sound. I think you're too hard on it, musically. The chord progressions alone are quite moving and catchy in their own right, especially in the bridge, not to mention the superb vocal melodies.
As someone who followed Gfriend's music, I thought you made one of the most astute comments about how the song Crossroads functions more as an OST to the story-telling of the video. The sound is distinctly Gfriend with its orchestral style. However, there was some feedback about how the melody doesn't stand out more - clearly a result of the dynamic of the song. Your comment, to me, captured the sentiment. It was reported that Big Hit's intent is to emphasize the story-telling. I didn't embrace this song at first, but it won me over after repeated listening, in particular because of its emotional content, even when the melody itself doesn't grab me. I had a similar experience with TFTMN. Lastly, I'd like to commend on Big Hit/Source Music for going back to the Gfriend's signature orchestral sound. I believe it's a shrewd management decision for Gfriend's first comeback under Big Hit label. I think this pays homage to the long-term Buddies and alleviates much of the anxiety of Big Hit acting as an outsider to force changes its fan may find objectionable. Thanks for the reaction.
I don't think it's been a handful of comeback since GFriend had this kind of sound. Wasn't Sunrise very much still in this classic GFriend style? Or am I crazy. That was just a year ago
I loved that inspite of all the fears BIGHIT would mess with our girls, they released a classic Gfriend album and single, and I really appreciate just how rock steady and dependable they have been for over half a decade!!!!
I think he's referring to Labyrinth. It's a great b-side track produced by Hitman Bang. GFriend was performing this song along with Crossroads on all of the music shows.
This song is PERFECTION. It's addicting af, emotional to the core, beautiful, it has everything and same goes to the MV like it makes me wanna cry everytime I see it!
When I watched this, I was immediately reminded of Rough, this sound of GFRIEND that I haven't seen for a long time, and this is honestly the best, next to Rough (Rough is superior haha)
The album's concept is actually going back to their roots (as you can see with the fingertip reference at the beginning of the mv). But many Buddies speculate that their next concept would be more like Labyrinth since Source Music is promoting it way more than the usual b-side. Give the album a listen! Labyrinth and Eclipse are definitely my favorite side tracks!
As a buddy, I loved this comeback for both the song and the music video. The song definitely is covered in GFriend's style and has reminents of previous songs (TFTML, Sunrise, Rough, etc.) But there was something more emotional about this song. The orchestral strings swelling in and out during the songs and the powerful and emotional vocals really made the song stand out in that sense. I love the music video and the choreography because it all ties into the story that GFriend has been telling through all of their previous music videos. They're all just theories at this point but I really love that you can link all their previous songs into one cohesive story. It makes me want to know what will happen next in the story.
Whenever I watch or listen to gfriend's Korean songs, I always feel a Japanese vibe from it. They're school concepts really give off that vibe but the music for they're cinematic concepts really makes me feel like I'm listening to a Japanese song.
Ahhh I was waiting for your reaction to this MV because it’s not shot like a typical MV with lip syncing and choreography and it tells a story like a movie.
Im looking forward to the listening party! Labyrinth is honestly my favorite Gfriend's album. I cant stop listening to it. Bighit and source music rly did an amazing job.
I don’t know why but listening to this song makes me tear up about halfway through, there’s so much emotion I don’t even know why but I do like every time. I really love this song ❤️
i’m a buddy and i loved this comeback and i loved the return to their core sound!! i’ll always support their concepts, but nothing really hits as well as their orchestral songs
i LOVED this song. i am such a sucker for emotional songs. and im also a real sucker for theories. they have always been something i loved, so seeing gfriend's universe, made me fall in love with them fully 💓💓
As a buddy who love rough, rainbow, tftmn and sunrise a lot, this is my favorite comeback ever. The mv is such an upgrade, it's very beautifully shot that makes me feel the song even more. The song itself didn't really hit me the first time but the more i listen to it the better it became and now it's my favorite, especially with all the violins and eunha and yuju's voices in the chorus
As a long time buddy and can only speak for myself, the music itself is not crazy or catchy but the MV and backstory is. Since ALL Gfriend comeback/MVs are actually stories that linked together, the fact that this is the continuation all the way from the trilogy, Love Whisper, and Fingertip, amazes me and of course would like to see how the story develops! And I purely think the reason why I like the music as well is because of my bond with the girls, watching them grow and change over time, just touches me~ Even though it is pure storytelling MV, there are still so many hidden storylines for buddies to make guesses and interpret the storyline, which again, amazes me~ And as BigHit stated that they wanted to create a BigHit universe, this could mean more exciting future with BTS, TXT, and Gfriend~ Honest opinion wise, for someone who is new to Gfriend, it is definitely a hit or miss; But once you are a Buddy, definitely forever a Buddy XD
I was waiting for your reaction as I wanted to see if it was my impression but I noticed because of the storyline the song faded into the background. And now that you mentioned it how it served as a soundtrack, I understand people's reaction to it. I agree with you saying Rough is the perfect combination of pop hit and Gfriend's sound. I think they haven't found the right balance just yet. I believe this second Gfriend phase starting with Time for the moon night, the songs have been more for fans; exploring and experimenting within their sound. As a buddy since MGT I just loved this direction they took in this come back, I absolutely loved this video and the song is one of my favorites.
Nice reaction! All the songs in this album are both high quality and deserve to listen to them. BTW, also please react to their Japanese songs for example "Fallin' Light" and "Memoria" are both amazing!
i also did not like crossroad when i hear it first and use to hate too but i like crossroads now..i understand why crossroad is tittle track even labyrinth is more catchy and have girl crush vibe..one thing i learn from gfriend is alway listen to their song recently and digging it
They showed the glass bead, eunha travelling through time, the butterfly (navillera), the fingertip remade scenes, and all the other references from the past cbs. Crossroads feels like the song that tied everything together. Next comeback would probably be the conclusion of the story.
Thank you so much for this. I guess you will react to the album also, and if it's not too much... can I ask you to check out other gfriend albums? I can promise they are all amazing, and you are the only react channel that I watch and 'trust'.
Same. And I'm still goosebumps until now every time i heard Yuju's highnotes and Eunha's highnotes adlibs. I think this is Gfriend's song that made me can't stop to felt goosebumps. Crossroads's power i love it so much. I love all member vocals in this song esp Umji's voice my fave😍
