@@AjaxJP I had people in one of my livestreams argue with me for 10 minutes that she was 15/16 until I brought up her in-game file and went afk for a drink lol
Appreciate the review. When I hear people say that RE4make is an unqualified slam dunk, i’m just like… really? THIS game? It’s a good game. Original RE4 is a masterpiece. There’s a BIG difference between an 8/10 and a 10/10. There’s a lot to criticize, but for myself I really can’t forgive Capcom for what they did to the laser sight. The laser sight… IS Resident Evil 4. Emblematic. Whole game in a nutshell. In the remake, i didnt even want to use half the weapons. Big waste. Oh also, Saddler is boring as hell in this game. Writhe in my cage of torment, my friend 👍👍
And while I think Ashley was well done, the whole game i got the feeling of “heh, give the gamers what they want. Have the cute girl compliment their shooting and drive a construction vehicle. They’ll like that.” Original Ashley is a character, new Ashley is an emotional device like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite. Imo.
Another criticism that I've had with this remake, and a lot of remakes recently, both resident evil and others such as the dead space remake, is them moving away from one of the most innovative mechanics of the era the original games are from, which was how the aiming fundamentally worked. In the original we had a clear indicator of the path of the bullet, and this path originated from our character. In the remake however, we have an indicator which is effectively skewed from everything else in the game. Enemies don't walk towards our camera, they walk towards leon etc. When enemies get very close to leon, (or isaac in the dead space remake which had the exact same change), it can get incredibly confusing and difficult to aim at them as suddenly you are dealing with the rotation of the camera, alongside our movement, and an enemy moving usually laterally to the camera. In the original you just, pointed the gun at them. even in the original dead space which has more modern camera controls, it is still a lot more intuitive because you aren't trying to pu the enemy in the centre of the screen, you are just putting enemies into the path of the weapon. Another difference in practice is that in the originals if you aim at an enemy and they are walking towards you, you don't really have to track their lateral movements, just aim at what part of the body you want to shoot. In the remakes however you have to constantly compensate down/left to compensate for their movement towards the left of the screen, alongside aiming at body parts etc. Playing the re4/dead space remakes back to back with their originals and although theres a lot of other differences, it just feels so much easier and natural to aim at enemies, alongside also looking a hell of a lot cooler since you actually have real lasers (the re4 remakes laser attachment is also still not a real laser, it is more like a coloured dot on the hud and a fake laser effect that doesn't even point where the gun is pointed). Whats also amusing is that in the re4 remake they blatantly don't even aim the gun towards the centre of the screen, but off really far to the right. It looks ridiculous. I still love the remake, but I think its sad to see genuinely incredible mechanics in a couple niche games effectively get reduced to the generic mechanics of most third person shooters, You'd think nowadays it would be even easier to do more immersive/no compromises design decisions like that but it seems like instead we are getting more generic/simple things that look and play worse.
I definitely agree with this. This is most easily demonstrated with the handcannon, which you can miss with despite being point blank, because the aim is angled like this.
@@guitarsandcars2586 Define everything else, start of your comment seems like you are agreeing or accepting some of the problems people have with it, then dismiss it in the same comment?
Completing both games on their respective professional modes showed me which game is better designed (it's the original RE4). The mechanical flaws of the remake expose themselves more the further you push the difficulty. The original is remarkable for its extremely tight mechanics and enjoyable enemy/crowd interactions. While the level design changes are clever and the new features are fun, the remake so frequently feels janky and rough around the edges in the most important places. In OG RE4, being in a crowd of ganados was always fun, and you always had a variety of tools to use to get out out any situation. in the remake, it’s a sh*t-fest. The most optimal way to engage with the combat mechanics is to engage as little as possible, quickly shotgun and run past because otherwise, ganados will teleport in front of you to choke you, attack you while you’re in an uncancellable animation, cause you to stumble into stunlocks, and throw molotovs that can curve in midair. Melee is no longer a viable method of controlling groups and gaining space, which was such a huge part of the addictive gameplay loop. The clarity of enemy animations and reactions to your shots has been reduced significantly, which makes gunplay and setting up stuns less satisfying all around. Leon’s movement is sloppy and imprecise. Say what you will about the original’s tank controls, but once you’re comfortable the game is quick, snappy and consistent. The controls are far more responsive and precise in the original. Rather than feeling like the game is about mastering controls, positioning and timing, it feels like the game is about managing chaos. everything, from enemies to aiming, is drowning in an extra 1-2 layers of random behaviour. Partner AI is inexcusably atrocious. Ashley randomly getting stuck, moving slower than Leon, and staying so far behind even in the “stay close” mode is irritating beyond anything in the original. Again, it is random and inconsistent. Working around it usually means letting her get grabbed and chucking a flashbang at the end of a room, otherwise it’s just a headache. The entire premise of having another character to actively protect is wasted. Important mechanics such as contextual knife stabs are such a great idea that get lost in finicky button prompts and unclear rules. The aiming reticle bloom is a huge downgrade from the potential pinpoint accuracy of the original. Every gun has a laser in the original and every shot hits the exact spot the laser says it will, it's highly precise and reliable; if you miss your shot it's your fault 100% of the time, that isn't quite as true in the remake. The laser sight in the remake (which only a few weapons have it + you have to purchase it) is more of a red dot on the screen rather than an actual laser sight beam that is used to to gauge depth/distance. In the original, bullets would come from the gun itself, and the laser would show you were you are aiming. In the remake, bullets come from the camera, and hit wherever the centre of the screen is (albeit, recoil/inaccuracy/edge cases etc.). What this means is that the laser attachment that is in the remake is more like a fancy skin for the reticule, and we've seen how this works in the other modern RE remakes. The problem with this is that it doesn't actually convey the major benefit of how aiming worked in the original, which is that aiming is more intuitive because you are aiming in a space relative to the world, rather than relative to the camera. Probably the easiest way to explain a more obvious benefit of the original laser aiming is that if you were aiming at an enemy who is far away, as they approach Leon, they would move along the laser the entire time. In the remake however, they would move to the left of the reticule, meaning you have to compensate for their movement, which is not very intuitive, especially when you get enemies incredibly close to you. In the remake, we are fundamentally aiming on a skewed plane from how every actor in the game world works. It also has the benefit of making each gun’s handling feel more distinct. the basic handgun is at Leon’s eye level, but the TMP comes out at hip level. which means in close quarters, it’s better for tripping up ganados and taking out their legs, easily setting you up for opportunities for melee or group kills with grenades. once you upgrade it and add the stock, it comes up closer to the middle and has a huge clip, so it’s better for spray-n-pray into crowds with high DPS. the striker is the only shotgun that doesn’t have a shoulder stock, so it behaves a bit differently too. it’s a little thing, but contributes to the fact that each weapon has its own niche. Now, this isn't necessarily an issue for a third person shooter, but I think it is completely understandable why many people would be annoyed when this is a remake of a shooter that is often considered as one of the all time greats, and yet we are basically getting a dumbed down version of its gunplay in this respect, and actually bringing back issues which were initially solved by how the original worked. it’s still a good game with lots of love poured into it, but it just doesn’t match the polish of the original, and doesn’t match the impressive presentation of the modern AAA games that were influenced by the original RE4 like The Last of Us, so it’s hard for me to see the point in bringing it back in this form.
Yeah, I've only played the Remake on Hardcore and Professional, so my assessment came entirely from that point of view. I think a lot of people who don't see these issues either don't think too much about them or are playing on easier difficulties.
Everything you said sounds like a skill issue tbh leons movement is incredibly smooth in the remake. The remake professional mode is factually better bc its harder unlike the og where you just take more damage
Props to you for still finding enough positives to like it overall. The combat criticisms you outlined is genuinely the reason why I find the game abysmal and keeps me away from wanting to play more. It wants to play and feel like horror but also have chaotic fights and imo fails at it mechanically really hard.
The focus mechanic can at least be bypassed with the laser sights for the handgun and Killer7, as can the knife issue with the primal knife. I would change the grabs from being so ridiculously magnetic though. My issue, as stated in the video, isn't that each separate issue is a big deal, but it's the combination of them that snowballs into issues. But I do love playing it and getting better at it.
Hey Sarco, this was an amazing vid and worth the wait, I loved listening to the whole thing and related to your perspective on the remake as a RE4 fan. Thank you for taking time to make a very high quality review I enjoyed it a lot.
The remake is good, it even does some things better. But when you really dig deep into the gameplay systems of both games, the remake just has so many more flaws and contradictory mechanics that it just isn't in the same league. People who think the remake is better in every way most likely have not put any thought into the debate aside from the modern mechanics that are shoehorned in. Or they are unwilling to adapt to tank controls, which honestly take less than an hour to get good at. Basically I can sum up the gameplay differences like this: The OG is entirely skill based and 100% reliable and predictable with tight, responsive controls. The Remake is about 75% skill and 25% luck/RNG with sluggish controls and unreliable button prompts.
It would be amazing if all the mechanics worked perfectly but they don't, which is a shame. As I mentioned in the review, there's no single mechanic that is necessarily terrible, but the problems with each end up snowballing.
Nah i think you just suck at the remake there is wayyy more skill expression than the og your just straight up wrong on that. In the og you can easily get swarmed and get tagged bc that leon is slow; in the remake if you get surrounded you get easily outmaneuver or parry them to get out. Then plus in og enemies just walk up to you and stare dont even swing💀
I hear that response alot when people compare re4 to its remake that the og is reliable, tighter ,etc i think those statements or only said is bc the og is easier; enemys run up to you and give you a solid amount of time to shoot them, they always get staggered and i think they needed to be that way for the time bc of leons “tank controls”. If you took the remakes enemys and put them in the og the og then your going to have a miserable experience bc your way to sluggish
I agree with you mostly, but you didn't mention the overall sluggish movement and slow acceleration and turning speed. It feels especially annoying when enemies can turn on ultra speed when Leon is not looking at them. I know it's for the sake of realism but it made the gameplay worse imo.
This was probably the best review I've watched on the remake, I personally enjoyed it a lot, to the point where I platinumed the game, but I still think the original is much better, however the only version of the original that I played was VR on quest 2 so I can't say that I truly played the OG version. Shockingly in the remake, in my opinion they strongly improved on the island which I was very grateful for, but with the remake for me, the village felt like a slight downgrade, at least for me, it was still great, for example, the introduction was of course amazing just as it was in the orginal especially with DR. Salvador, and definitely like you said, the boat exploration was greatly expanded on which i too loved, especially the chicken island, and i also loved the cabin fight, it was definitely very challenging for me at least since i only played the VR version of the orginal, i also loved how they redid the big chesse fight, minus the fact that they didnt show his transformation but that wasnt much of a big deal for me, the rest of it though felt somewhat shorter to me than the orginal version, unless im wrong, nonetheless I personally prefer the village in the original over the remake, but either way the game was great, nearly just as good as the original, and all your points in this review were spot on, an enjoyable review and video as always.
yeah me to i think that the OG still better but in nowday people never really think like this people is more obsece and praticly all of them alway say the remake is beter but if we think without the OG the remake never be existe in the end since in nowday capcom and other compagnie cant do a game but do only remake and i can say just look in around 2040 he going to have a other res 4 remake for sure
My suggestions on avoiding the knife situation you described would not to make the knife breakable but have its effectiveness reduced a lot when durability is zero: - Parries are limited to perfect parries only - No red parries are possible (when the screen tells you to parry) so no parrying chainsaw attacks - Knife stabs are still useful for breaking crates - Knife stabs do half or less damage - Can't be used to break out of a grab Having no knives really is a pain in the ass, but I think these kinds of changes could give players some options on whether they want to repair the knife or rely on their skill on not getting hurt while rewarding players that time their parries well.
so what he be like this sure but beside fight alone he have spider and is allie who be is tentalce and is mouth can one shoot if u miss that just see salazar run away and be more easy to beat in the remake
“Awkward to fight” What does that mean? If you’re up top he can eat you, hit you with his tentacle, or grab you with his tentacle. When he does that jump down below use a flash to kill those spider plagas get Ammo, climb up the ladder kill him. What’s so awkward about that??
I am not a fan of the resident evil 4 remake, I more play it thanks to the great modding community that makes it close to the original. However I will say that this is a very insightful review good job.
That is the advantage of PC games, the modding community can sometimes fix a lot of the mechanical problems with games. RE5 on PC is only playable thanks to the modding community really.
I was very hesitant to like the remake when I first started playing it because I had such rose glasses for the original, but it grew on me more and more as I got deeper into the game. I love that the overall feel of horror was greatly increased through everything from the music, to the remade characters, to the scenery, to the added small puzzles and cutscenes. I LOVE how they changed Ashley! I actually really liked her in the remake. I love both Leons because each of their personalities make sense for the feel of each game. I slightly prefer OG Leon because of his light witty humor and sarcasm, but I feel it wouldn't have felt quite right in the remake. New Leons darker humor fit perfectly. Although I will always love the original as it's one of my top 5 favorite games overall, I do slightly prefer the remake as the darker tone suits my personal preference more. Great analysis Sarc! 🤓
Yeah, I think too many people expected it to be a copy of the original with better graphics, instead of it being different, as every remake has been. I can play and enjoy both of them equally.
This is a wonderfully put-together video! I like how there's no bias towards either the OG or the Remake, despite you voicing a preference for the former. You laid out both the ups and downs of the games clearly and professionally, and covered basically everything that was necessary to touch upon, outside of Separate Ways, which wasn't available in the Remake at the time. A very entertaining and relaxing listen!
@Sarcosuchas I'm sure it will, my friend! If I may offer some possible talking points, here's my personal takes on OG Separate Ways: Top 5 Moments: 1. The boss fight with Human Saddler. 2. The race for the Special Rocket Launcher. 3. Having access to the Mendez Shack not engulfed in flames. I suppose the Bulldozer Runway section from Chapter 4 would also fit here as an interesting shakeup. 4. Using the Crossbow. A fun unique weapon, superior to her shotgun. 5. The "trap" on Chapter 5 of the island. While it does boil down to "pick a corner and stand your ground", it still has a nice feel to it, with Ada not being fully out of danger even when the door opens. Bottom 5: 1. Reused assets. The village El Gigante fight and Cage Garrador encounter, for example, have little to no variation from Leon's. 2. Repetitive nature. Biggest offender is having three separate trips to the village square. Leon does the same thing, but it flows a lot better in the main campaign, plus the last one is at night and with Ashley in tow for a big change-up. 3. Battleship Area, gameplay. The actual map layout and design deserve praise, but firing a mounted gun at constantly spawning enemies isn't the most engaging gameplay. 4. Krauser. The most obvious "oh crap, we need a boss fight" addition ever. Props to the Remake for keeping him as a Leon-only adversary. Though the lingering shot of his dead body did make me fear they would repeat the mistake. Anyway, while the cramped environment and Ada hook swinging from platform to platform give the fight a different feel, it still boils down to "knife him to death". I'll give them props for giving Krauser a cool "burned" design, though. 5. Castle section is too short. Routing all the enemies in the opening village siege takes about as long as the entirety of this part. The biggest offender is that the cutscene where Ada offers Leon a ride to the island has no connecting gameplay here, something the Remake fixes. Outside of gameplay, I would also say that the cutscenes exclusive to Separate Ways are very nicely done and visually satisfying, despite their horrible compression in later releases of the game. Props to Sally Cahill and Richard Waugh for their voice acting performances as Ada and Wesker, too, I really love their dynamic in this game. Wesker being demanding and sometimes harsh towards Ada, yet not outright insulting to her and staying composed, is my preferred version of his character. Overall, I would give OG Separate Ways either a B- or a C+. Despite the rehashed and recycled assets, it's still Resident Evil 4, with immersive gameplay, solid variety, and an overall charming tone/aesthetic. Plus, Ada does feel different enough from Leon, with her speed and durability. With that said, Remake Separate Ways is the superior version in almost every way, fixing basically every issue the original version has. I'll stop here while I'm ahead. Hopefully, there's something in this tangent you can take away and use.
I prefer the original personally as a newer fan. The remake for me didn’t hit the same. To me, the characters (except Luis) were better in the OG. The higher difficulties were better. The villains were better. Some voice acting was better. The whole vibe was better in the OG. I do like the remake. But there’s stuff holding it back from making it a 10/10 in my opinion.
The focus mechanic kinda helps give the idea that the ganados are more resilient to gunfire, as their pain receptors are basically next to none. To be honest knocking a ganado out of their shoes with a shotgun blast is fairly satisifying in the og when they go flying backwards but that gives off a more cartoonish vibe which would clash with the horror theme they were going for. However the mod community have brought some mods that give og re4 melee mechanica that can fix that and get it to the way you want.
But does that mean they also immune to the laws of physics? For an audience crying about realism, an enemy getting shot in the head should at least be pushed back if not have its head completely explode.
They always were resilient to gunfire to be fair, and the thing is they don't always stun even without the focus mechanic interfering, hence why I think it should just be removed entirely.
About the music, i love how Ramon's new theme feels royalish, like a ball room but with a grotesque monster. It also has a hint of sadness to it that does suit Ramon's story. Idk, I love the remake so far :P
I'll be honest with you: other than Leon, Ashley, Ada and Dr. Salvador I find all other designs in the remake inferior to their original counterparts in every way (besides technical stuff such as polygon count/texture quality/animation work). Edit, on the question of parries, I think you might be misrepresenting the argument on realism: the thing is, the remakes are supposed to be more realistic than the originals, so it doesn't fit well when you can parry a chainsaw, with a knife and the guy with the chainsaw has superstrength. The machinegun parry is also very ridiculous. It's like the remakes want to be realistic but also have it's cake and eat it too. The fact the graphics are almost photorealistic just makes it even more jarring . Saying "the other previous games had it" is a non argument too, since it was a problem in most of those too.
My view on it is ultimately it comes down to how pedantic you want to be. Though I agree that the machinegun parry is pure anime and utterly absurd. Resident Evil exists in a world of hyper-realism. So certain allowances have to be made with it, otherwise none of it works if you want to prioritise realism (such as the massive transformations many enemies undergo, which break the laws of physics etc). Within this fictional world, I can accept Wesker moving faster than bullets because he has a virus that provides those powers. Whereas Chris punching and moving a 38 ton boulder when he's only supposed to be peak human is asinine, the same goes for Leon's ridiculous survival feats in the games and the CG movies. In terms of realism for the Remakes, I think singling out the chainsaw parry to be unfair, when in RE2 Leon manages to survive Birkin slamming him through the metal grating, Ada somehow survives her fall into the abyss etc. In RE3, Jill manages to survive various falls from high places and manages to brush off a rocket launcher being fired at her feet by Nemesis (enough that it blows her into the air). So, I can accept the argument that RE as a series needs to decide on how much realism it wants to have, one way or another. I just don't accept people crying about one relatively mild example of something being unrealistic when every game (including remakes) have worse examples.
Nothing was going to top the original. Mikami is a master at creating revolutionary games and it showed with the original RE, God Hand and Vanquish. The remake is fantastic though.
Im glad someone else is bothered by the obsessive and high damaging grabs Its why I had to put the game down with trying to 100% the game as I just couldn't get that S+ Rank on professional without getting burnt out from dynamite and grabs in such a tight time frame for someone casual to games like this. Kinda just not a fan of being forced to speedrun a game where I feel cheated by some actions instead of feeling its proper user failure. No cat ears for me 😂
@@SarcosuchasThat was the deal breaker for me as losing so much progress when I need to go through some sections flawlessly to keep on a good pace just demolished my morale. I honestly could go with using the unlockable items for an easier time, but I feel it kinda goes against the challenge set by the game.
I can see why someone would love the remake for its story and presentation. The gameplay is pretty much a generic modern 3rd person shooter though and i get bored. The original had bigger more open zones and every enemy was programmed to come at you. The remake tends to just funnel a couple enemies at you at a time, dunno if this is for game balance or if it's for performance reasons. The original had this very engaging chess match of watching for ranged attacks while trying to trigger the melee while every enemy was attacking you. The gameplay of the remake is quite boring for me.
@@8b39vedkilje6 they both look human my friend. The movements and characteristics won't the same. The villagers looked like they were under a trance unlike the hyper people in the remake
@@koaelmorz7073 It's cuz in the og Leon cant move and shoot at the same time and also moves slower thus to give the player a fighting chance, the enemies move slower. In the remake Leon can move and shoot and also moves faster thus the advantage u had before has been taken away or else the game would become too easy
I am a little confused by some of the changes they made, as well, specifically in regards to knife durability and the lack of consistent melee attack setups. My only guess is that they know that people who are fans of RE4 OG already have a very specific playstyle locked in, and they wanted to turn that on its head, making it less viable for a full game (at least the first time through). Knife durability makes it impossible to do the kneecap -> slash until dead strategy that is so popular with the OG game. It also adds a new element of resource management, that metagame of wondering when you should use the knife, if you should use up a bunch of it to get out of a grab or take a hit to your health, etc etc. I think it's a balance thing more than anything, but also intended to show off a new direction for the game that puts it just a smidge more in line with survival horror rather than pedal to the metal action that is comfortable to navigate and rest on your laurels for when you find the one strategy that can carry you through the whole game. When it comes to combat now, it seems you have to be more tactical as a result, but maybe I'm wrong! And the lack of the statue chase and laser room... I'm really confused why they took those out, particularly the laser room. The statue I could understand being too bombastic for the more grounded vision the remake has. But the laser room, I'm not sure I understand that one at all. Great video, by the way!
For casual first time vibe play through Id still recommend 2005 RE4 for them. I just re-played it so many damn times over the years that the fight mechanics are too predictable and repetitive. Remake has at least twice the content and is simply smooth and beautiful even on my mid tier gaming laptop.
twiste content but 10x more money u need to spend remake is alway about money that anything else dude just wake up and to all game is the same all game is repetitive after u going to play them all the time then u commetn dosent make sence dude
I would love to hear your thoughts on the Separate ways DLC. It showed more on Wesker and gives us more scenes with some characters. Do you still feel the same about Wesker and what you said about him here As well As Ada?? I would love to know honestly.
Before seeing the video. I am of the opinion that they are both terrific games. However The remake is just good. The og is a classic, a timeless master piece they will live for years and years. As it already has. The remake will not leave behind a legacy, just a good one and done game.
love' em both! kudos to the devs for enhancing so much of the gameplay and making it immersive to a whole new level; the remake absolutely triumphs in this aspect. but, with the cinematics and characters - despite the bygone graphics - the original had way more impact on every level (edit : almost every level) 😏 just my personal opinion ✌♥
One thing i wish the remake had were scenes where the genados would talk to eachother Like the shotgun house cutscene where you would see a few talk about how to get inside
Remake was good, Ashley however I know many prefer remake over original but honestly I prefer the original gameplay wise so many times did I have to restart on Pro because Ashley would no joke sometimes even run into my shots unlike in the og where she would just crouch instead didn’t like having to pick her up either, also I like in the og where Ashley is mostly quiet letting me enjoy the atmosphere of the game when there was no one around here Ashley never stfu bc Leon would be constantly praising & talking like she was the best thing since sliced bread about opening doors and knocking down ladders 💀 it’s a little thing but I notice it so much when I had to grind for everything again on PC
It/U-3 feels like the most divisive Resident Evil 4 boss, from my experience. Many seem to see It as little more than "padding" for the game and a complete "bullet sponge" enemy, but just as many consider it to be one of the most memorable boss encounters and a highlight of the Island section, expressing disappointment at its removal from the main game. I'm somewhere in the middle. I love It's bizarre freakish design, the falling containers section is properly tense, and the second phase can also feel intimidating if you don't have incendiary grenades and/or a souped-up magnum. However, its existence does take a lot away from the Krauser boss fight that follows, feeling very much like a speedbump or "commercial break" before the feature presentation. Nothing is really lost with Leon not having to battle It, as the Remake's Island features a lot more horror elements to make up for It's absence.
Wesker turning into the "CIVILISATION HAS FALLEN. BILLIONS MUST DIE!" /pol/jak made me cringe so much lol. One of the most interesting character changes for me was Saddler. In the original, he clearly didn't actually believe in Los Illuminados and was just using them to get power to fight against the US, but in the remake he's the actual cult leader who wants to spread his religion. I'd say he's a lot less fun and could do with more screentime in the remake, but the banter he had with Leon in the original would not have made sense in the remake with the more serious tone. On a slightly related note, they seem to have changed Los Illuminados from a pagan cult to a Christian one.
Yeah, all the build up for years only for Wesker to want to destroy the world with black spaghetti monsters was a let down. I think Los Illuminados is still some form of pagan cult, but they were originally beaten back by the Salazar family who made sure the region became Catholic. Then that very same Catholicism was then used by Los Illuminados to return, especially once Ramón turned to their side unlike his ancestors.
Resident Evil 4 Remake handles the topic of religion in a rather interesting way, without making any definite statements while actually encouraging every player to draw their own conclusions about the matter. The influence of Christianity on the cult is obvious; however, as you have mentioned, Saddler and his underlings might have used the villagers' former beliefs to convert them into the new faith more easily. The way the most important concepts of Saddler's faith are presented in the Remake makes it possible to assume that the game tries to criticize the modern day Christianity; yet some of the most honorable and righteous characters in the game are clearly Catholics, with the most notable one being Luis, without whom the defeat of Saddler would have been impossible. So what's the writer's stance towards the topic of religion? There are no definite answers to that question in the game, however there are enough facts and little details to support either the atheist approach found in many Japanese games (i.e. almost every form of organised religion is bad in every way) or the religious one (the "true" Christianity prevailing over the "fake" satanic doctrine created by Saddler and his ancestors). I think Resident Evil 4 Remake does a pretty good job creating a rather complex and thought-provoking plot without actually taking anybody's side when it comes to how the questionable content is presented; I do understand why some players may be troubled by this ambiguity, though.
Ada's voice actress didn't performed upto the mark, but she doesn't deserve threats or abuse. Criticism is different than abuse. But there are far more baffoons than sensible people on the internet. Focus shooting is, well, unwanted. Atleast against ganados. Alright, maybe the government can't simulate 20ft giants or blind wolverines, but they surely can train Leon against humans on the depths of insanity. Knife breaking feels realistic against chainsaws and doing a lot of counter attacks (or parry) but if only used for stabbing an cutting, it should rather be turning blunt instead of breaking. Making laser sight optional feels kinda sad because it was one the most unique thing about the original game, but atleast it's there in the remake. Krauser's voice actor surely feels like putting all of his strength on his vocal cords than styling his tone. In the original, krauser feels like he's training as well as outsmarting leon which he actually does if you're playing for the first time, but here, well i got mixed feelings but actually knife fighting him rather than watching some cutscenes intensively is a much better change. Introduction of fully automatic weapons feels kinda game breaking because one of the key elements of the original was the lack of modern weaponry. We only have 1 fully automatic gun in the game (not counting unlockables). I can't think of much other than this. And using original themes was a brilliant idea ngl. Nice video tho.
I think the focus mechanic was fine. It's not quite as harsh as it was in the RE2 remake, it zeroes in a lot quicker. In my experience the game gives you enough ammo to kind of just ignore if it you land mostly headshots and make good use of melee/explosives. Overall I don't think either game is better than the other. They're both extremely good with heavy flaws in certain places.
The fact it can be ignored for the most part kinda argues my point about it for me. Why have it at all? I tend to bypass it mostly these days using the laser sight and Killer7. But yeah, we're agreed. They're both pretty even with different flaws.
@@Sarcosuchas I can agree with that. For me it grants a choice of being able to take my time when the game lets me to do extra damage, or just send it when the game does not let me.
You should read the whole argument on my Trailer analysis video (it's the one with the Krauser thumbnail). I've got quite a few good retorts in my repertoire lol
The fact that a petty internet argument over a video game trailer stuck in your craw so much that you felt the need to post it in analysis video is so fantastic lol. Takes the video from a ten to an eleven.
If you read the full argument it'll make more sense. xD But to summarise, they started out saying I was wrong. Then it was "it wouldn't make sense" or "be a waste of Luis' character" Then it became "You can't die from being stabbed in the back" Then "you don't know if it's him, that jacket could be anyone" Then "you just can't be sure until the game is out" And condescending, obnoxious remarks as well. Someone who was losing the argument on all fronts but still strutting about as if they were winning lol. Should've seen my reaction in my first playthrough when the death happened lol
I never completed the original even though I played the original like six times over the course of my youth. I would always get to the regenerator section and proceed to become too scared to even proceed past the underground water section. So ironically I would always make it to that section but would never make it further than that- so when I bought the Remake I was surprised that they change the regenerator section as a whole. And I also have to congratulate the remake for being one of the best games of last year. Especially being a reimagining of a game I never completed. I typically don't like modern gaming because I've played so many games at this point that I suffer from severe burnout if that game doesn't have interesting features or worthwhile engagement but the Resident Evil 4 remake is by far best feeling and playing Resident Evil out of all of them. It's relatively short and has plenty of replayability with plenty of unlockables- the only downside is for me the Remake completely eliminates the need to play the original. The controls and the gameplay are vastly superior so going back to the original feels so clunky and obtuse, but I still think Resident Evil 4 remake is one of the best games of all time.
Using mine and one of my best friends phrase for the Luis/Saddler scene AND a TFS Cooler reference!? 6 out of 5 star review rating for me, hands down. lmao XD
I agree.... I think is an unpopular opinion nowadays but i think og re4 is still better. Re4 remake is a good game... There are some things i didn't really like but its a very good remake for sure. Beside krauser and ada voice acting which is terrible, i didn't like the parry mechanics with breakable knife, the very hard to stagger enemies and weapons being so inaccurate... I think i had more fun in the og... Felt more immediate to me.
Personally, I do not care for the new Salazar. The way he looks, sounds, speaks, and behaves all disappointed me a great deal. His role in the story was basically shoved to the side in favor of more Ashley, which isn't an unworthy tradeoff, but I don't see anything to like much in what little we did get of him. He doesn't retain any flair of his own, this time he's openly a pawn for Saddler and doesn't even pretend to be his own villain for Leon. I'm not sure if anyone strongly disliked his calling Leon up to taunt him every now and then? I didn't mind it. His entourage getting fleshed out more was nice though. The bloom on weapons like the pistols and magnums is borderline intolerable. While out in full force in the shooting gallery, during normal gameplay it is complete bedlam trying to hit moving targets with random spread in those damn crosshairs that only close after holding your aim still for two full seconds when there's seven enemies charging in a stampede. I also loathe Leon's movement speed being so, so slow, he is one of the most sluggish characters I have ever controlled in a game. With enemies being so aggressive to outmaneuver you, Leon's lack of mobility is extremely painful. The change from the over the shoulder style from the original into this new third person style was also a kick in the teeth because Leon turns his body whenever he runs in a direction that isn't forward. Furthermore, you can only interact with things in front of Leon, the camera's orientation is irrelevant. Getting him to reorient himself you've moved him beside to interact with something like a melee prompt is like controlling a drunk Red Dead character. Performing a suplex was very satisfying for me in the original, and it's still my favorite move here, but now with the controls and mandating you initiate it from behind it is so incredibly frustrating to miss many opportunities because getting Leon behind a kneeling enemy facing their back is an awkward fight against the control scheme every time. I've gone back to the original to test it and getting behind a kneeling enemy and facing their back before they recover is not nearly as difficult in that control scheme because Leon is always facing forward. Honestly I'm really not that huge of a fan of this remake, but despite my harsh criticisms I also concur with much of the positive things people have had to say, as well as sentiments in the video. In particular I noticed right away while playing that the music during the boss fights enhanced the action excellently. Ashley and Leon having vocal interactions during gameplay goes a very long way to building a believable connection between the two over the course of their journey, and I heard several exchanges that accurately referenced how much damage I took after an encounter, which I enjoyed hearing very much. Performing melee attacks is very satisfying and critical hits being accompanied by a bone-breaking sound effect is great feedback. The suplex, when you manage to perform it, is still highly damaging and fun to see. The expanded boat section was quite enjoyable, as although the boat is still a bit awkward to control, it's a noticeable improvement on the original, plus you can now reasonably fish with the harpoon. Del Lago is also pretty much the same fight but better in every way, as far as I can tell. The improvement I was happiest to see involved one of my favorite parts of the original game, the initial section of the credits where the music track Sorrow plays over a projection of drawn renditions of scenes from El Pueblo's residents before Los Illuminados entered the picture. To me, it was a small but powerful gesture to humanize the village and its people in the players' mind and leave them with a reminder that the location was inhabited with unrecoverable lives. Saddler was stopped, but his initial foothold had done terrible damage from the outset. In the remake, the village inhabitants are fleshed out more via items, environmental details, and text you can find throughout the village area. Their lives before and suffering at the hands of the cult are given more of a focus to players who are interested in hearing it and it provides much more character to El Pueblo and the people who used to live there, and I enjoyed that element of the remake very much. I found it very important of the remake to give such attention to the iconic village in which the game "begins" and features the Ganados and their series-redefining behavior. As a side note, the original game's credits featured a final piece of art of a villager becoming a Ganado and pulling their head off to reveal insect-like protrusions, which I believe may have gone to inspire the Ganado Desnucado. Ultimately I was very satisfied with this element of the game given such attention, as important as I felt it was. I played the original game for the first time this Autumn after finding this channel and loved it to death, had a fantastic time completing a second playthrough on Professional alongside the guide on the channel (it was honestly just fun to play along) and was very excited for the remake. It hasn't been a complete disappointment but I tend to get very attached to things being a certain way and I don't like them changed for reasons I don't think work. i.e. You can no longer reliably dodge attacks simply by moving away from them, so you can parry. But the knife is limited, so it's no longer an ideal offensive option, and as both it has limits. I don't like offensive and defensive options both being strictly limited, I feel like you should have at least something to fall back on in an action focused game. Ultimately I strongly dislike melee weapon durability systems as well, especially when they're as brittle as crisps for how fast they break. It's essentially like limiting melee weapons with ammunition, and to me that goes against the whole point of having a melee option. Anyhow that's my thoughts given. Thank you for the video, I appreciate the work you do on this channel very much. This series hasn't been on my radar a whole lot prior but RE4 has been a memorable experience through and through, and I'll love it forever now that I've experienced the classic for myself. It should also be mentioned that the HD Project is an incredible achievement and Ashley's restored Autumn outfit contributed well to my comfy survival horror October.
I would beg to differ on the chainsaw critique, I work with metal quite a bit in my profession, the knife and chainsaw parry is 100% plausible, metal has a lot of funny qualities not a lot of people know about
Yeah, a few people have since told me it's a lot more plausible than it initially appears. Wouldn't it potentially cause the chain to come off in some cases?
Depends on the model of chainsaw and type of knife, in most cases special chainsaws are used to cut metal pipes but regular wood cutting chainsaws would cause a jam 🔪🪚
The remake feels clumsy in comparison to the original. Say what you want about tank controls, but they were way more responsive and precise in comparison to the Remakes more heavier movement. It’s like they used RE2make as a base, and slapped a bunch familiar RE4 mechanics. Which is also something they did with Village using RE7 as a base.
A mí me encanta el original y lo pasé muchas veces, hay que ver que son casí 20 años entre uno y otro. A mí el remake me gusta un poco más que el original pero ambos son juegos muy buenos y entretenidos 👌🏻
. .Played it for weeks , People just get tired of RE4R than the classic RE4 game (But due to it’s circumstances people used modded difficulties to enjoy RE4classic & RE4Remake)
I think that might be due to the lack of i-frames and other mechanical issues I mentioned. RE4 is a game where it is difficult, but once you get good it becomes even more fun and rewarding, whereas RE4R will always be frustrating even if you're really good at it. Though this of course is more apparent on the higher difficulties and Mercenaries especially.
i have to say. the only two things that i REALLY going to miss from the og is first, u3 ( even though it's my least favorite boss in the og but still, since rumors says it's apparently gonna be in separate ways dlc im sure capcom can do some redesign on how the fight works just like they did with salazar ) and the second thing im gonna miss is prl412 i hope they somehow bring it back that gun was stupidly broken to the point where game wasn't even challenging anymore like AT ALL. that was literally the only gun that could one shot verdugo without freezing him man i love that thing😂 edit: speak of which as you probably know verdugos are dubbed u3 in the remake. well obviously leon take care of the red verdugo but we never saw the second verdugo after the first cutscene with salazar so ada probably took care of it in early sections of the castle but here's the thing. in chapter 14 right after saddler takes ashley away when you get out of that room you can actually find the same double door that leads to u3's boss fight ( or at least i believe it's the same door ) but obviously you can't enter it sooo what's with that? is ada's battle with verdugo gonna be similar to leon's? is that verdugo gonna somehow transform into the u3 we know? or u3 is still it's own thing waiting behind that door to fight ada this time instead of leon? because let's be real, they didn't put that door for no reason it could have been simply just a wall but no it's the one and only door you can't open it as leon. so they probably saved it for ada in separate ways and again, considering we never saw the second verdugo after that first cutscene i doubt he survived for too long or even if he did it's very unlikely he would chase after ada all the way to the island. so yeah im really curious to see what plans capcom have for separate ways dlc
I suspect we'll be getting the other Verdugo fight and the U3 in Separate Ways, as I imagine they're gonna expand SW so it's much bigger than the original and hopefully make it more coherent.
@avocadothecat i haven't. i only watched walkthroughs of it, i'm assuming you haven't played it or watched any video of it, so im not gonna spoil anything, but it's great. honestly, it's much better than the og separate ways if you ask me
The issues I had with the remake was mostly the score and characters. I did not like the new salazar boss theme. The original was epic. Nice blend of guitar, choir and organ. The new one feels overdone, too overcomposed . The other issue I had was the new krauser. OG krauser was badass. Very few words and cool. The new krauser is a cringey shouty edgelord. Something out of MCU. However I have to say the new save theme is a real gem. Great music to sleep or study to. Like you mention I feel the mechanics can be unforgiving, especially on the harder modes. The reliance on the parry system does have a learning curve. Other than that it has been a decent play.
Yeah, I think my idea for Krauser would've worked better and fit the tone they were going for, rather than have him yelling like a madman all the time.
Pretty much described how much i love/hate both of these games, and somehow capcom didn't mess up like Re3, the original will always have a place in my heart but by today standards this game is perfect for the introduction of Resident evil to newer generations. I already spent a lot of hours in trying to 100% the remake. And I'll still fight for my life to avoid getting grabbed on the cabin fight on NG Pro
This video explains my feelings almost perfectly. A lot of little things like krausers voice, not being able to tell Ashley to wait, or the lack of I frames that I've hardly seen anyone else talk about it. I'd say re4r is "expanded and enhanced" but less focused and tight as a result. The only thing I think you left out is the difficulty. I did my first playthrough on hard like the game suggested, as I've lost count of how many times I've beat the original. Playing re2r on hard made it feel closer to the original but re4r is not balanced for doing your first playthrough on hard. I was constantly low on ammo, never really had enough crafting resources, and wasn't really on point with my parries yet, but in general I was doing okay. But then there were a couple spots where the game just got too hard and I was beating my head against the section for so long that it stopped being enjoyable in the slightest. Hard mode felt like a fair challenge with a couple completely unreasonable spikes and unfortunately that kind of tainted my opinion of the game as you only get one first impression.
The reason I didn't mention the difficulty in the way you have is because my first playthrough was on Hardcore and the 2nd was on Professional and for the most part I did just fine. Both playthroughs were livestreamed too and are on the channel. Difficulty can often be a subjective thing though.
@Sarcosuchas I figure playing on hardcore first was meant for players like you who can do challenge runs of the original and less for players like me who mainly play the game casually (your videos are actually how I learned to 5 star every mercs stage with every character). I also refused to use any of the pre order weapons/cases/charms cause I wanted a properly vanilla experience my first time through. Ultimately it's my fault for my experience, but I can't shake the feeling that there were a couple rooms that were tuned a bit too high, since otherwise hardcore felt pretty good. The spikes I felt btw were the double garrador room, which would have been fine if not for the continually spawning ganado, the salazar boss fight, which I've done multiple times now but still don't really click with, and the ashley wrecking ball segment, which I felt just went on too long and I had to repeat from dying to the last wave of enemies twice. Anyway, I appreciate the response and that you're willing to engage with the people who comment on your videos.
@@utuberz123456789 The double Garrador room gave me trouble the first time around too, but the way that room works is that the zealots will stop coming once the Garradores are dead, so it's better to priortize them. I think the issue with the difficulty also will stem from the mechanical problems I mentioned, as they often work to handicap the player so difficult rooms will feel more difficult when enemies aren't stunning etc.
@Sarcosuchas yeah, I think the best way to sum it up is that the remakes difficulty isn't quite as finely tuned. Things like less i frames, and less reliable staggering aren't big changes on their own, but they compound on eachother. Knowing you had trouble in the double garrador room, and watching your stream and seeing you die a couple times to Salazar on stream definitely made me feel better about my own struggles though lol. But that's got me thinking that a video more focused on the mechanical differences and difficulty on the game would be really interesting.
For me both games are excellent, I could play them over and over again without getting bored even once. But objectively speaking, the remake is better in EVERY aspect. From the gameplay and mechanics, to the way Capcom deepened the lore and character development. For example, the PTSD that both Leon and Krauser suffer from certainly makes them much more human and complex characters; of course, Leon is still the sarcastic and badass guy, but just looking at his tired expression is enough to realize all the damage and trauma that night in Raccoon City caused him. Plus his relationship with Ashley is perhaps the healthiest bond he's ever developed with anyone (at least so far). For starters, this time it's not just about a mission, it's something that Leon is taking as something very personal, for that reason the game starts with Leon thinking that "this time it will be different", because he wants to save someone, he still feels guilty for not being able to save anyone in Raccoon City, and saving and protecting Ashley is like his way of redeeming himself and all those people he couldn't help. And I think it goes without saying that Ashley is infinitely better in the remake, she's sweet, funny and very brave, and her desire to become an agent is perhaps a hint that Capcom could bring her back in a role similar to Sherry or Helena in RE6, but again teaming up with Leon.
Amazing video man i really enjoyed it Now i can't say much as never played the original but i have seen it all and i mostly agree with everything u said and i really enjoyed this game definitely better then 3 remake anyway 😅 but ya 1 is definitely the best remake and 4 is definitely the second anyway great video and great job man
I discovered your channel just searching content for OG RE4 and after having watched a gameplay of the remake (my pc is really old, I can't run it) I have to agree with all your assessments in this analysis. Only thing I didn't noticed since I didn't played it was the focus mechanic. Otherwise, hard same. The only thing I would add is that sometimes it feels like there's puzzles for puzzles sake. There's the og's redesigned, and then in other areas there are puzzles that are literally "collect the parts of the mechanism in the room and unlock the door" which I found very annoying, like time padding, just as the "It" (U-3) fight was in the OG RE4. Like, why would you put a locked door if all the parts to unlock it are in the room, what is the point? Just a speed bump in the gameplay tbh. Another thing that may be cool in a replayability sense but that I'm not too sold on yet is the amount of treasures and locked chest that exist in the game. Like, to me, it seems that the new design of the map is complex enough to add to that all new kinds of markers and symbols, the amount of backtracking seems absurd and excessively time consuming just to make a little more money. I like it simple tbh, even tho I am a completionist gamer. And the final critique I have is that some puzzles were redesigned (in my opinion) to be more believable in a narrative standpoint while others were redesigned or added and are even more ridiculous that the OG. Like, the key to the curch? Really?? That complex of a mechanism to lock a door? OG had keys or simbolic objects that just fit in a indentation and there was. The sun and moon levers puzzle started to get old at the 3rd or 4th lever honestly. It was another puzzle that felt like time padding, in my opinion.
On your critiques: Ada's voice is perfect but the performance is lacking so true dat. Krauser's new look and voice is a let down for me honestly. It looked way more menacing in the OG and his voice was perfect too. From having watched the trailer, Luis new design rubbed me the wrong way, but having seen him all the playtrough, his character, demeanor and voice, I have to say I really liked him, and that was a very important point for me because Luis is one of my fav characters in the game even tho he doesn't have too much screen time in the OG. Overall I really loved the remake I hope I can play it someday.
This was a great watch, and I agree with you on most major points. I personally really didn't like the crafting at all, though. One thing I always really liked about RE4 was how laser focused it was, which made the gameplay always feel really rewarding anytime you got a drop from an enemy, as it was guaranteed to be something immediately useful, whether ammo, treasure/money, or healing. The addition of crafting drops really makes the remake quite a bit less enjoyable than the original to me. I also miss 2005 Ada, she was so cool! I honestly miss nearly all the original voice cast. Most if them were very distinct in a way I feel the remake doesn't deliver on. P.S. Do you have a list of all the music used in the video? Is it all from Resident Evil?
The crafting doesn't bother me too much as it also allows the player to pick and choose which ammo they need, which in some situations is better than then RNG of the original. Though the cost of crafting certain things means it's virtually the same as ammo not dropping. Music used: Nascent Remix of the RE4 Save theme The RE4 Save theme The RE4 Remake Save theme and of course, the themes used in the music portion are all named at the time.
That is such a great point! If Saddler’s plan was to send Ashley back with a plaga inside, why did they stop Leon when he is pretty much the only ticket to Ashley’s ride home? He could have let Leon take her and they probably wouldn’t have found a solution in time to save Ashley.
I'm in a unique position because I've played RE4 aged ago but never liked it as a Resident Evil game, and this remake? LOVED IT. I adore it, it's the Resident Evil 4 I've always wanted, it's like it was made specifically for me
Started playing Re4 in 2009 I was only 7 years old lol used to play with my older cousin we were stuck in the puzzle of the Church for days XD still play the original till this day, the remake was good but it had its flaws I think they should have kept the QTEs and some of the voicelines but the remake is great too but for me nothing beats the original lol I'm blinded by nostalgia
I blame the bad writing & voice direction with regards to the decline of Krauser/Wesker/Ada. Also, how did Krauser learn of a self-isolated cult in Los Illuminados located in the middle of nowhere without intel from Wesker? That makes absolutely zero sense. They definitely fleshed some things out in the remake but created more holes while at it. Combat mechanics are still fun nonetheless.....
I wouldn't say it makes zero sense, it is just left unexplained. It's not like Wesker is the only possible way to know anything about the cult; and if DC is still mostly canon then Krauser was seeking power in the form of B.O.Ws. All it would take is a rumour somewhere to reach him.
I love RE but my nostalgia blinds me but RE2 and RE 4 remake I genuinely love better than the original. I always told people the thing that made RE scary wasn't the zombies or the enemies it's the fact that you don't have enough bullets/ materials for it. The horror comes from the survival aspect
I think you are making the focus aim mechanic a bigger problem than it is. Unlike RE2 and RE3, even if you don't focus your aim/reticle, you still do very respectable damage.
Which would be fine if enemies on higher difficulties didn't have all the stun chance of a concrete pillar. As I stated in the review, a lot of my problems with it are minor but they all have a domino effect on each other.
@@Sarcosuchas Uhm that's why i usually play in Hardcore mode. It's more balanced than Professional. But still, it seems to me it's quite consistent. It's usually 1 headshot in Standard, 2 in Hardcore and 3 in Professional.
Nope, and last I checked he never responded to my recent replies on the original comment thread, and other people tried to get a response from him too.
@@Sarcosuchas I feel like they'll add all the cut content (laser room, U3...) to Seperate Ways because the original had almost nothing new in Ada's game mode
@@captainjojojonas That is my prediction as well. U3 is references in the game files, and we don't know where the 2nd Verdugo went. So Separate Ways will probably have a lot of unique content.
Your point was pretty good on the ballistics line. It's funny as hell granted, but I think what makes it weird is the game framing also agreeing with Luis? Like, instead of finding it in bad taste (like Ashley did by promptly pointing out how rude he was), it did the anime thing of panning down to her breasts like agreeing with his comment instead of "man, that guy said a creepy thing huh". Maybe that framing could be better fitted if new Luis was more of a womanizer like the original, but like you said they're different characters.
Commenting before Watching The remake is a good game we can all agree on that, but it definitely was overhyped. Unless seoerate ways blows us all out i have remake and OG around the same.
I think the reason they went with more of a Central American Spanish in the OG is bc the biggest audience is America and nobody speaks a Spain spanish in America so the voice actors were probably from America of Mexican descent lol anytime I would learn something and say it to the guys at work they’d be like no that’s from Spain we say this lol
@@williamburns7472 Yes. Most of the original VAs only spoke Portuguese, which is why they pronounce the lines so poorly. The Remake Ganados are Spanish VAs using proper Castellano Spanish and the difference is night and day.
@@Sarcosuchas that explains why in the opening sequence it sounded odd the way he said Que carajo estas haciendo aqui the way he said Que sounded like qui to me but I didn’t think too much of it lol I’m still learning and all the Spanish I’ve learned is Central American
@@williamburns7472 The differences aren't huge, some words are different (like American/British English) and pronounciations are slightly different. If you know Spanish (like I do) then you can usually tell the dialect and word usage. But the OG Ganados speak Spanish with a stranger accent than I do and I'm Scottish lol
The remake was done perfectly, passing the remake for the first time, I experienced the same feelings that I felt at the first passage of the original game
Tbh my biggest complain in the remake is the downgrade of the aesthetics in general. The colors are way too saturated and bright; the characters aren't as goodloking as in the original( luis and saddler specially) and the village being set up with a bright and vibrant atmosphere instead of a bleak and cloudy one. All of this makes the remake extremely generic and soulless, and i would only play this 5.5/10 game if it gets an 80% off on steam
I find it surprising that colour grading puts it all the way down to 5.5/10 for you. I tend to value game mechanics and such more than graphics, myself.
This was a really good video.. It deserves waay more views.. " Gives us a push Sancho "... " Who you calling Sancho ? " It's cool to know that Luis took part in the creation of the Nemesis and the Ne Alpha Parasite research.. Jill: 🙄 Btw Im actually viewing your video, while having RE4R playing in background.. I use Chapter 4 specifically to fall asleep to.. The heavy rain coming down across the surface of the lake , mixed with ambient thunder and lightning 🌩️⚡.. makes for great ASMR honestly.. Leon is just chilling taking the beautiful view in from the Cliff side of the lake.. Chapter 4 is probably my favorite and stands out the most in this Remake to me.. It's very memorable personally..
there is so much wrong in this review No idea why you state, that you even liked RE4, when you hate half of it with Ashley and "want her gone asap", you hate "clunky and outdated" mechanics, and you hate story and characters. I mean all of it is bs, all these things are great, playing around Ashley and protecting her isnt that hard or frustrating, maybe you are just bad, mechanics are responsive, Leon always does what you tell him to do, and his movement is balanced with what enemies can do. And characters, man if you really like this new corpo friendly blob, then good for you, but for me new lines and deliveries are pure cringe, performed by incompetent voice actors. There are so many bad takes in your review, I cant even believe you actually mean it. 28:30 its not game being slow, whatever that mean, its you literally standing in 1 spot doing nothing, letting enemies overwhelm you 8:00 for 2 mins you talk about something nobody cares in a 10 mins recap, why? 11:00 what an absolutely bizarre thing to say, the whole balance of the game is made in mind of stationery shooting, and it feels amazing, what are you even talking about? 11:30 this is when you went from bad to just moronic. Yea, game balance was made in mind with stationery shooting, so mode that has nothing to do with the original release, thats on a completely different system, proves what exactly? 12:40 another just bizarre point, you praise Remake for "expanding" some areas and for "streamlining" some areas, and for "getting rid" of some areas or bosses. That sounds like some AI generated text, that has no idea of what it just wrote few sentences ago. Pacing of the RE4 is absolutely perfect, its all cool and memorable areas, and bosses one after another, adding artificial padding is actually a bad thing. 13:50 is this whole video a joke? You also hate awesome qte scenes? 14:15 so this whole area and its boss is a speed bump, but backtracing in Remake is a feature? Its just sad at this point. 38:40 So you arent actually a moron, and you get what makes RE4 mechanics great and Remakes shitty, at this point, I have 0 idea what this video is about
For calling me a moron, you sure aren't displaying the pinnacles of human intelligence, are you? I don't recall ever stating that I "hate" things in the OG RE4, simply stating that there are flaws to it. You seem to be missing the whole "comparative" aspect of the review, and seem to be in the camp of thinking that the OG is "absolutely perfect" and therefore cannot be criticised. "maybe you are just bad" - that made me laugh out loud. Sure, me, the guy with multiple Mercenaries World Records and several No Damage playthroughs, along with a 100% Accuracy + No Damage playthrough uploaded, is just bad at the game and needed your superior perspective on it. Perhaps you need to pay closer attention to what is said in the video if you're struggling to follow my points, given that you seem to be unique in this particular struggle. Here's a foreign concept for you to roll around in your head for a while. People can have different opinions from you and not be "morons" for it. That attitude is the truly moronic thing here.

I understand you have strong opinions about OG, but you could've at least structured your whole comment better. I had a stroke reading this. Your comment isn't making sense at all.
Good review, i think now that the remake is not perfect, you are right about certain things, like the acting is kind of wack, specially Ada. The waiting kn the reticle to shrink so ur shot does more damage or is nore accurate. Really stupid imo. In re6 at least u had a dot with the reticle or u could change it to classic like re5, or re4 with the lasers. Also another thing is the grabbing, annoying as hell. Specially in mercenaries. Another thing u didn’t talk about is how Leon or whatever character u play easily gets stunned, for dumb shit. For example u jump a eindow and there’s a ganado there, u get stunned, is really stupid, and slows u down so much. Ur character kind of feels weak at times bc of what they added. Honeymoon phase is over, and i don’t see any of my friends playing this game anymore. To me i’m not buying another remake of a game. Bc if i played the og there ain’t much really to be played anymore. Unless i never play an og game, i would buy the remake. Just like metal gear solid 3 remake. I never played that game back then.
I see plenty of my friends playing the game still, and I certainly am. So I don't think its popularity is going to fall-off any time soon necessarily. I did forget to mention stupid things like the window stun, but it's mostly the same as the lack of i-frames anyway.
Not a fan. The villagers look and act like hyper PEOPLE not spooky infected murders. The gameplay was stolen from RE-revelations . Minus the parry. Cool game should have been CODE VERONICA
I like the remake, but it is not a masterpiece that people say it is. Great gameplay, but other than that, it feels like a downgrade to me, I especially didn't like relationships between Ada and Leon. And for some reason, Leon face looks weird
Ngl the new Wesker voice is my personal favourite. I heavily dislike the comic book villainy snobby thing he had going on in Re5 - I couldn't and still can't take him seriously at all. Also for me personally it is the best Remake - but tbf I do not like Re1r because I don't like that style of game. (fixed camera angles that make me dizzy + Tank controlls which I heavily dislike) It's not the games fault, that's on me - but I do still hope for a ReRemake of 1 in the style of Re2r which is the only game in the series that genuinly scared me :) As for Re4r - I think I have never 100% a game as fast as Re4r. I played it non stop. I really love it a lot.
I'm not a fan of the RE5 voice for Wesker as much as some people. My personal favourites are the original RE4 (Richard Waugh) and DC Douglas' impression of him for Umbrella Chronicles. Wesker is better when he's just calm and matter-of-fact. But a lot of RE5 Wesker's problems is in the crazy writing too. That's fair about RE1R. Though my criteria for putting it as the best remake isn't about it being the best game, but being the best remake of a game in the series. It does everything right in that regard. Personally, I'd like a Code Veronica remake next.
@@Sarcosuchas Ah, yea Richard Waugh also was a very good voice for him. And I see - I guess from that standpoint yea, Re1 is the best remake as it really did the OG but better. Code Veronica would be dope - and be it only to see Wesker wrecking chris with more than 5 polygons xD
I do think Ashley being a brat in the original makes sense. She's the President's daughter after all, probably been pampered all her life.
True, but it made a lot of people believe her to be 15/16 when she's actually 20

Imo.
@@StrnGuy Not even close
Well MF said!
I still prefer all the remakes over the originals. Way better graphics and everything else.
@@guitarsandcars2586 Define everything else, start of your comment seems like you are agreeing or accepting some of the problems people have with it, then dismiss it in the same comment?

“Footage from Umbrella Corps”
Thank you very much for the warning.
So my biggest issue with the game is that Salazar and Saddler are so boring compared to their OG versions.
Which is to be expected with how toned down they are due to the lack of campiness.
100% skill issue. Professional mode in the remake is literally perfect. The OG’s Professional difficulty doesn’t even feel remotely hard at all.
Many thanks ^^
Ada's performance is the true crime in the remake. The abuse is crazy. But the performance really sucks

I didn't mention it because it didn't bother me at all.
Thanks ^^
and yeah, the VR version is the best port of the original, and is a different comparison to be made when comparing it to the RE4 Remake.
yeah me to i think that the OG still better but in nowday people never really think like this people is more obsece and praticly all of them alway say the remake is beter but if we think without the OG the remake never be existe in the end since in nowday capcom and other compagnie cant do a game but do only remake and i can say just look in around 2040 he going to have a other res 4 remake for sure
My suggestions on avoiding the knife situation you described would not to make the knife breakable but have its effectiveness reduced a lot when durability is zero:
- Parries are limited to perfect parries only
- No red parries are possible (when the screen tells you to parry) so no parrying chainsaw attacks
- Knife stabs are still useful for breaking crates
- Knife stabs do half or less damage
- Can't be used to break out of a grab
Having no knives really is a pain in the ass, but I think these kinds of changes could give players some options on whether they want to repair the knife or rely on their skill on not getting hurt while rewarding players that time their parries well.
I like how they redesigned the Salazar fight, it felt awkward to fight him when he was just stuck on the wall in the og
Agreed
He was like a horrible plant made of meat and violence
He was just tiny and floated around the room in the new one
so what he be like this sure but beside fight alone he have spider and is allie who be is tentalce and is mouth can one shoot if u miss that just see salazar run away and be more easy to beat in the remake

RE5 on PC is only playable thanks to the modding community really.
sorry but the mod ruin the game dude
Well done on the review!!
Thankies ^^
This is a wonderfully put-together video! I like how there's no bias towards either the OG or the Remake, despite you voicing a preference for the former. You laid out both the ups and downs of the games clearly and professionally, and covered basically everything that was necessary to touch upon, outside of Separate Ways, which wasn't available in the Remake at the time. A very entertaining and relaxing listen!
Many thanks ^^
Hopefully my Separate Ways review meets the same standard.
@Sarcosuchas I'm sure it will, my friend!
If I may offer some possible talking points, here's my personal takes on OG Separate Ways:
Top 5 Moments:
Bottom 5:
Everything u said I agree this should have been RE code Veronica
@@SarcosuchasI think we are more or less in the same page. I thought I was the only one that had a problem with birkin doing that in re2r lol
For me it was a good game but not a Resident Evil game. It was a kick the shit out of everything game. The enemies were human as well.
Should have been a RE code Veronica remake
Nothing was going to top the original. Mikami is a master at creating revolutionary games and it showed with the original RE, God Hand and Vanquish.
The remake is fantastic though.
Im glad someone else is bothered by the obsessive and high damaging grabs
Its why I had to put the game down with trying to 100% the game as I just couldn't get that S+ Rank on professional without getting burnt out from dynamite and grabs in such a tight time frame for someone casual to games like this. Kinda just not a fan of being forced to speedrun a game where I feel cheated by some actions instead of feeling its proper user failure.
No cat ears for me 😂
The speedrun aspect of S+ isn't too big a deal for me, but the lack of saves I think is especially cruel to casual players.
@@SarcosuchasThat was the deal breaker for me as losing so much progress when I need to go through some sections flawlessly to keep on a good pace just demolished my morale.
I honestly could go with using the unlockable items for an easier time, but I feel it kinda goes against the challenge set by the game.
The game allows you to use bonus weapons for it so might as well
I can see why someone would love the remake for its story and presentation.
Probably for balancing issues. If you play Mercs that'll quickly become apparent with the lack of i-frames.
The enemies don't seem like something is wrong with them. They acted like they were hyped off candy
@@koaelmorz7073 didnt the enemies look more like normal humans in the og?
To be fair, the laser room was added back in with Separate Ways
As much as I love the original I definitely prefer the remake. It has better pacing, controls, weapon customization, and exploration.
@Rambestgirl you are right. The original is better. The remake island portion is especially bland.
@@1MuchButteR1I’m sorry what? The og island was awful. The remake fixed that part of the game.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the Separate ways DLC. It showed more on Wesker and gives us more scenes with some characters. Do you still feel the same about Wesker and what you said about him here As well As Ada?? I would love to know honestly.
I intend to make a similar review of SW
@@Sarcosuchas hell yeah. I can't wait to see it
Before seeing the video. I am of the opinion that they are both terrific games. However The remake is just good. The og is a classic, a timeless master piece they will live for years and years. As it already has. The remake will not leave behind a legacy, just a good one and done game.
Remeke is a part of the said legacy tbf.
Time will tell, I suppose.
love' em both! kudos to the devs for enhancing so much of the gameplay and making it immersive to a whole new level; the remake absolutely triumphs in this aspect. but, with the cinematics and characters - despite the bygone graphics - the original had way more impact on every level (edit : almost every level) 😏 just my personal opinion ✌♥
One thing i wish the remake had were scenes where the genados would talk to eachother
Like the shotgun house cutscene where you would see a few talk about how to get inside
True, would've been a nice inclusion in Separate Ways like in the OG.
It is a brilliant remake and I’m so glad they made it, but no it’s not in the same league as the original
Últimamente hay mucha gente tirándole odio al original.
Me gustaría saber tu opinión
They're different in tone, but I rate them around the same. The OG edges out the Remake by a tiny margin though.
I'd love to see a comparative video about the mercenaries mode. I bet you enjoy 5 more but between 4 original and 4 remake, which one do you prefer?
OG 4's Mercs is vastly superior mechanically.
That part about Leon trespassing into a man's house caught me off guard with how serious the video seemed 😂
This is how I am, serious but deadpan and sarcastic lol
19:53 "I'm not your honey" Lol, I'll have to use that quote from now on.
You should read the whole argument on my Trailer analysis video (it's the one with the Krauser thumbnail). I've got quite a few good retorts in my repertoire lol
In my opinion i think og is better one thing i didn't like in the remake is aiming
I assume you mean the focus aiming?
@@Sarcosuchas exactly
Sorry for my poor English
The fact that a petty internet argument over a video game trailer stuck in your craw so much that you felt the need to post it in analysis video is so fantastic lol. Takes the video from a ten to an eleven.
If you read the full argument it'll make more sense. xD
But to summarise, they started out saying I was wrong.
Then it was "it wouldn't make sense" or "be a waste of Luis' character"
Then it became "You can't die from being stabbed in the back"
Then "you don't know if it's him, that jacket could be anyone"
Then "you just can't be sure until the game is out"
And condescending, obnoxious remarks as well.
I want to make my own video. But honestly for me. the directing skills of Shinji Mikami in the original are the best..
You should make your own video then, this is YT after all
I like both the originals and remakes.
RE1, RE2, RE3 and RE4...
No matter the version... you're in for a good time!
Using mine and one of my best friends phrase for the Luis/Saddler scene AND a TFS Cooler reference!?
6 out of 5 star review rating for me, hands down. lmao XD
I love TFS, what can I say? xD
Waaaay better and fun
@@M.O.N.K.3And these are more likely to be wood cutting chainsaws, given the environment.
@@SarcosuchasI would have to say yes, maybe super Salvador’s chainsaw would be more likely lol
Plausible? How ? the moving chains force plus over powering weight couldn't make that plausible
The remake feels clumsy in comparison to the original.
Say what you want about tank controls, but they were way more responsive and precise in comparison to the Remakes more heavier movement.
It’s like they used RE2make as a base, and slapped a bunch familiar RE4 mechanics. Which is also something they did with Village using RE7 as a base.
. .Played it for weeks , People just get tired of RE4R than the classic RE4 game (But due to it’s circumstances people used modded difficulties to enjoy RE4classic & RE4Remake)
I think that might be due to the lack of i-frames and other mechanical issues I mentioned.
RE4 is a game where it is difficult, but once you get good it becomes even more fun and rewarding, whereas RE4R will always be frustrating even if you're really good at it. Though this of course is more apparent on the higher difficulties and Mercenaries especially.
i have to say. the only two things that i REALLY going to miss from the og is first, u3 ( even though it's my least favorite boss in the og but still, since rumors says it's apparently gonna be in separate ways dlc im sure capcom can do some redesign on how the fight works just like they did with salazar ) and the second thing im gonna miss is prl412 i hope they somehow bring it back that gun was stupidly broken to the point where game wasn't even challenging anymore like AT ALL. that was literally the only gun that could one shot verdugo without freezing him man i love that thing😂
edit: speak of which as you probably know verdugos are dubbed u3 in the remake. well obviously leon take care of the red verdugo but we never saw the second verdugo after the first cutscene with salazar so ada probably took care of it in early sections of the castle but here's the thing. in chapter 14 right after saddler takes ashley away when you get out of that room you can actually find the same double door that leads to u3's boss fight ( or at least i believe it's the same door ) but obviously you can't enter it sooo what's with that? is ada's battle with verdugo gonna be similar to leon's? is that verdugo gonna somehow transform into the u3 we know? or u3 is still it's own thing waiting behind that door to fight ada this time instead of leon? because let's be real, they didn't put that door for no reason it could have been simply just a wall but no it's the one and only door you can't open it as leon. so they probably saved it for ada in separate ways and again, considering we never saw the second verdugo after that first cutscene i doubt he survived for too long or even if he did it's very unlikely he would chase after ada all the way to the island. so yeah im really curious to see what plans capcom have for separate ways dlc
I suspect we'll be getting the other Verdugo fight and the U3 in Separate Ways, as I imagine they're gonna expand SW so it's much bigger than the original and hopefully make it more coherent.
have you played Separate ways? What'd you think?
@@utuberz123456789 I'll probably make that sort of video eventually, once I know the Remake as well as I know the OG.
Basically, i think so, yes.
Doesnt make the original less perfect though
10:22 He said the thing!
But it's good that we all agree that OG RE4 was perfect and Rem4ke bad. Because new bad.
Hey the review is done (and I didn’t get the notification about it)
Amazing video man i really enjoyed it
Now i can't say much as never played the original but i have seen it all and i mostly agree with everything u said and i really enjoyed this game definitely better then 3 remake anyway 😅 but ya 1 is definitely the best remake and 4 is definitely the second anyway great video and great job man

@@bennyblue8516 Good, there's even a HD Mod for it (which is what I use)

I'm getting there
I discovered your channel just searching content for OG RE4 and after having watched a gameplay of the remake (my pc is really old, I can't run it) I have to agree with all your assessments in this analysis.
On your critiques:
Ada's voice is perfect but the performance is lacking so true dat.
Music used:
Nascent Remix of the RE4 Save theme
The RE4 Save theme
The RE4 Remake Save theme
and of course, the themes used in the music portion are all named at the time.
That is such a great point! If Saddler’s plan was to send Ashley back with a plaga inside, why did they stop Leon when he is pretty much the only ticket to Ashley’s ride home? He could have let Leon take her and they probably wouldn’t have found a solution in time to save Ashley.
He probably wanted to send her back once he had total control over her.
Shinji Mikami wrote RE4 story in 3 weeks!
I'm in a unique position because I've played RE4 aged ago but never liked it as a Resident Evil game, and this remake? LOVED IT. I adore it, it's the Resident Evil 4 I've always wanted, it's like it was made specifically for me
So what was the defining factor for you in the remake?
@@TheCyclicGamerno tank controls better traveling
That's crazy to think considering the remake is less of a re game than the og re4
I like this a lottt 😁 subbed
Thanks ^^
I love RE but my nostalgia blinds me but RE2 and RE 4 remake I genuinely love better than the original. I always told people the thing that made RE scary wasn't the zombies or the enemies it's the fact that you don't have enough bullets/ materials for it. The horror comes from the survival aspect
56:53 accurate 😆
I had to lol
Did the guy comment on this video? The one who argued with you about the death lol
Nope, and last I checked he never responded to my recent replies on the original comment thread, and other people tried to get a response from him too.
The RE4 remake is better in my opinion. With the seperate ways dlc this remake will have basically no cut content
I hope Separate Ways is really good, as the original SW could do with improvements too.
This man was cooking the entire video.
Once I start ranting it's hard for me to stop lol
Code Veronica Remake! Let's f*cking go!!!
I don't care what anybody says I believe the remakes are a masterpiece and extremely well done.
. .Yah , if the music volume is all the way down 😅
5:10 seriously climbing up a ladder with ignited dynamite 🧨 talk about being bold.
Not to mention what he says is much worse in the original Japanese script lol
Commenting before Watching
The remake is a good game we can all agree on that, but it definitely was overhyped. Unless seoerate ways blows us all out i have remake and OG around the same.
Me gustaría escuchar tus argumentos y lo digo desde una postura neutral, ya que a mí el remake me decepcionó en algunos aspectos.
Same position that I hold, as you'll have discovered now that the video is out.
Great work ❤
Thanks ^^
I think the reason they went with more of a Central American Spanish in the OG is bc the biggest audience is America and nobody speaks a Spain spanish in America so the voice actors were probably from America of Mexican descent lol anytime I would learn something and say it to the guys at work they’d be like no that’s from Spain we say this lol
Perhaps, but only one of the ganado VAs was a Spanish speaker, so the pronunciations are bad for that reason.
@@Sarcosuchas I did not know that probably why I can understand it better in the remake did they use all VAs in the remake were from Spain?
OG Mercs vs Resi 4 Remake Mercs next
Actually, I plan to compare all the Mercenaries modes. RE3, RE4, RE5, RE6, RE8 and RE4 Remake.
Even better! @@Sarcosuchas
The remake was done perfectly, passing the remake for the first time, I experienced the same feelings that I felt at the first passage of the original game
I definitely loved my first playthrough. I don't remember all my feelings of the original as I was 12 when I first played it lol
yeah the remake be done well for make people waste 10x more money just for the game then yeah is perfect
It's cool to know that Luis took part in the creation of the Nemesis and the Ne Alpha Parasite research..
Jill: 🙄
Btw Im actually viewing your video, while having RE4R playing in background..
Many thanks ^^
Want a cookie, rookie?
I'm not supposed to eat them but yes lol
there is so much wrong in this review
No idea why you state, that you even liked RE4, when you hate half of it with Ashley and "want her gone asap", you hate "clunky and outdated" mechanics, and you hate story and characters.
28:30 its not game being slow, whatever that mean, its you literally standing in 1 spot doing nothing, letting enemies overwhelm you
8:00 for 2 mins you talk about something nobody cares in a 10 mins recap, why?
I think this is the part where we tell you that you're showing your ass, and your input doesn't amount to anything.
for me i dont care what people can think but for me the OG still better that the remake for the reason in the OG game be orginal about game play in the all remake is not orignal since the developer do is only take the same way to fight move equip weapon and more is all the same in all remake in the OG is better since is alternate about the different res and is not alway the same the camera fix be prety good the first game in the first persone like res4 be og to the creepy thing we see in the og res game make the game fun annd scary like nemesis he is caracter be more scary in the OG that the remake since in the remake we see a big guys and that all the og he have is face be burn and with a scary caracter in all res remake is all the same the dev team dosent really put efford in the game only about graphic if u guys just think about this the way u play is praticly all be take in res 6 the first game we can shoot in the same time of moving can use the inventory the same way he do in the remake everything be take about the old game then the effort of the remake be 0 the OG cant be have done more faster that the remake since the og game need to know what to do and more the remake he just take most of the thing about the og game and now for prouve it the remake is just about cash grab to prouve it in the OG res 4 and i mean the game cube since the xobx and ps2 is not really the og since he have more thing separate way ahley and leon with a new custom the new weapon who totaly discosting seriously make a weapon to one shoot every boss that prety not a good idea and in the res og we never really miss ammo or anything in the og res 4 u really have everything u need the handcanon chicago and rocket ilimited then is be plenty enough the merceray and all be 100% free the remake what those dev do be so selfish put all ilimiated weapon seriously what the point to play a game with never miss ammo i hear the mercenary u need to buy map for play u buy ilimited ammo u buy the new chapter with ada probably a random chapter who dosent have anything about in the game like the seprated way be totaly about what leon do in the same time as ada the remake he take the big boss int he cage sad since he be really a awesome boss to fight but in the remake he put praticly 90% similard the same boss because people want to see him again but he not the same enemie original to take the same designe for a new boss who look the same big efford the dev do anyway just for saythe OG game in 2005
... Huh?
I think you need to learn what a remake is by definition.
The Remake mostly copying the original is precisely the point.

He doesn't look masculine he looks like a Calvin Klein model
When the positives barely outweigh the criticisms...
Not sure how you got that impression from me. I'd argue it's a 70/30 split between positive/negative for me.
I was just guessing by the sections in the video.
Also, you just reminded me to finish this lol@@Sarcosuchas
Conclusion.
Both are good.

Exactly.
One is a masterpiece one is a good remake
Ngl the new Wesker voice is my personal favourite. I heavily dislike the comic book villainy snobby thing he had going on in Re5 - I couldn't and still can't take him seriously at all.
Also for me personally it is the best Remake - but tbf I do not like Re1r because I don't like that style of game. (fixed camera angles that make me dizzy + Tank controlls which I heavily dislike) It's not the games fault, that's on me - but I do still hope for a ReRemake of 1 in the style of Re2r which is the only game in the series that genuinly scared me :)
As for Re4r - I think I have never 100% a game as fast as Re4r.
Agreed with everything my man :D ❤
