The two sports movies (so to speak) that cracked me up the most and still do to this day…obviously Slap Shot being #1 but I was hysterically laughing watching King Pin. I get it…technically it’s not a “sports movie” but neither was Slap Shot or The Bad News Bears, Tin Cup, and the Major League movies. @@STG1313 Not just the minor leagues. We saw a lot of the over the top fights in Pittsburgh watching the Penguins get pummeled by the Flyers, Bruins and Red Wings back in this time period too. Back then the Penguins were terrible, but we got to see the good teams come in from cheap front row seats in the corners where all the action was.......Great Memories !!!

The brothers were all born in Virginia, Minnesota and first played together on the Marquette Iron Rangers hockey team in Marquette, Michigan.
Two of the Carlsons were even playing the Hansons in the movie. One of the brothers wasn't available, so the third brother was played by hockey player David Hanson.

Saw this in a theatre 2 nights ago. there were about 60 of us, and mostly in the same age range(I`m 67). There were about 8 to 10 people wearing Hanson Jerseys. We all laughed our @$$es off all through the entire movie !There are so many great character actors with roles in this that I remember well over the years. If you lived in the 70s, you really get a treat by seeing this again, looking backwards at all the crazy stuff we wore and the hairdoos and so on. Anybody can get the humor of it, but not as well as those of us who lived it........

As someone who grew up playing hockey in the 60s and 70s, I loved this film. My dad built a rink for me every winter, in the backyard and my elementary school 1 mile away had 3 rinks. I even skated to school. Thanks for a great memory.

They're not the ideal standard you want your child to emulate 🤣 but I have to admit that I certainly understand what you mean. I still find it hysterical that I recorded this song and spent several hours putting the clips together to match the length of the song. This little video has gotten so much attention from the 3.5 minute movie clip. Out of all the responses ive received, not one person has yet to acknowledge the theme song from that movie, which I am singing every vocal part lol. I guess I did it so good, everyone thought it was the original woman singing it...or, they could care less about the song, it was the montage I put together that they enjoy. Agreed, they were gritty and Grammy, in fact, I think it’s safe to say they were grunge before grunge was grunge. But they were classics, many of which still keep your interest even if you catch it while flipping through channels, you find that you stop, you pause, and let it take you back

Me and my brother (naturally) loved this movie and would do our best to either recreate the brawls, or go out to play street hockey and actually BE the Hansen brothers. Such great times.
I remember this on tv when I was very young. Loved the song and the movie. Hanson brothers were hilarious! This movie and Wayne Gretzky made me fall in love with hockey. Takes talent to sling a puck across a field of ice on skates. : )
The speed of the professionals is fascinating to watch. The key throw in the face, fight with the fans then jail really happened. The sucker punch too during warm up.
That scene before the national anthem was filmed in the Utica Memorial Auditorium which is now The Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium, home of the AHL Utica Comets, Utica University Hockey and MASL Utica City Football Club. The Aud was the first stressed cable roof building in the USA and the engineering model used for Madison Square Garden. Paul Newman said filming SlapShot was the most fun he ever had making a film.
I grew up in the area and remember when they filmed this. I also remember going to plenty of concerts at the "Aud". The Clinton Commets and the Utica Devils also played at the Aud. In fact, I think the last time I went to the Aud was when I got some free tickets to see the Devils back around 1991.

Saw it in the theater....well up until the "freak a goalie out" part when my mom decided it was all too much for her and stormed us out. Ha ha. I was 7. She took me because SHE wanted to see Paul Newman. I love the Hanson Bros!!!!! Great movie, great sound track and absolutely holds up today!
I grew up in Florida and have never actually watched a hockey game but when I saw this movie in the 70s it was so much fun to watch and the characters were so well done it's one of my favorite comedies and it reminds me so much of the 70s and it makes me miss my brothers

It’s a funny scene, no question about it. The crazy thing is what they’re depicting was a relatively common practice amongst the “goons” of the minor leagues back then. That was the toughest sport around back then. Look at old pictures of hockey players, their faces have scars, as well as several teeth missing… today, they all want to be on the cover of men’s magazines. I appreciate your comment, thank you.

Without a doubt the most authentic in appearance that we’ve ever seen in motion pictures. Quoting lines from this classic is like quoting lines from Jaws, the Godfather I and II, Rocky, It’s a Wonderful Life, Goodfellas, etc. Every movie mentioned (with the exception of SlapShot) took home Academy Awards. Back in the 70,s i played hockey and was captain it is true if you were a good skater and shooter there were guys that would take you out i had my left ankle broke twice my right ankle broke once , my nose broke twice and my collar bone broke once i quit after that and the fights out in the parking lots were insane with the parents going at it it was a crazy time 😮

Without a doubt the most authentic in appearance that we’ve ever seen in motion pictures. Quoting lines from this classic is like quoting lines from Jaws, the Godfather I and II, Rocky, It’s a Wonderful Life, Goodfellas, etc. Every movie mentioned (with the exception of SlapShot) took home Academy Awards. That says something when a cult classic which never received accolades, and yet it’s become part of Northern American lexicon. That’s impressive. Thanks so much for leaving a comment 👍🏻

I grew up going to No Means No shows at the fairgrounds. Hopped the N border and saw Hanson Bros an number of times. Now days its Dead Bob - can't wait to see them again in a few weeks!

Back in the 70,s i played hockey and was captain it is true if you were a good skater and shooter there were guys that would take you out i had my left ankle broke twice my right ankle broke once , my nose broke twice and my collar bone broke once i quit after that and the fights out in the parking lots were insane with the parents going at it it was a crazy time 😮
