yeah man, had read about that one!!! and oddly enough, while reading about his death, someone mentioned that this guy could've been a good Wolverine in an X-Men movie if it was filmed in the 1980's or something
Even though my Wife has no interest in sports, she loves this movie. Her cousin is Fred Howard who pitched for the Chicago White Sox in 1979. After that he became a well-respected surgeon...
Great Video. RIP to those who passed on. It's difficult to even believe that Ralphie's Mother, in A Christmas Story, Melinda Dillon, not only was in this Slap Shot movie, but also did nude (topless) scene as Hanarhan's Wife.
There’s a ‘Slap Shot’ themed office in 1st Summit Arena (previously the Cambria County War Memorial), the arena that most of this movie was filmed at, with a lot of memorabilia from the movie in it. Paul Newman had said that Slap Shot was his favorite movie he’d ever done. He mentions ‘The Aces’ a lot in the movie…The Aces is a bar in Cambria City (a subsection of Johnstown), he spent a decent amount of time there during filming and mentions it as a nod to the owner. A lot of the old timers in town loved Paul, as he never acted like a ‘celebrity’ while staying in Johnstown.
Paul D'Amato's character was John Byrne's inspiration for how the X-man Wolverine should look and act. This character is the closest thing you are gonna see to an accurate live action Wolverine.
Favorite line: "Who hone de Chief?" A late friend of mine and I actually got to ask that question of Steve Carlson once. He was coach of the Johnston Chiefs (yes, the Chiefs!) and was serving a suspension in the upper deck of a game vs. the Richmond Renegades. He was sitting in a corner seat by himself, so of course we had to go inquire of him about the possibility of purchasing da Chief... FTR, he said, "I'm still trying to figure that one out."
Nice too see a lot of them still kicking. Favorite line? Thats one of those movies where they're were many favorite lines. Greatest sports comedy probably ever.
Melinda Dillion although not considered an A list actress got to be in 3 pretty iconic movies: Slap Shot, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and A Christmas Story. I was really sad she didn't reprise her role as Ralphie's mother in A Christmas Story Story but knew she was in poor health at that time. And just to update, sadly Paul D'Amato passed away in February of 2024. Fun Fact: Ned Dowd is a successful producer in Hollywood. Some of his credits include The Count of Monte Cristo and Shanghai Noon.
I had the honor to meet the Hansons when they came to Krefeld. I have pictures with them from zhe party that night. So nice guys..😂I also saw the movie several times, so funny.
Luv it! You’ve got Ned Dowd’s picture (the actor who played Ogie Oglethorpe in the movie) then, and the real life picture of Bill Goldthorpe (the actual player that Ogie’s character was based on) now.
Great movie met the Carlson brothers a month ago with Yvon Barette (Denis Lemieux) at a local hockey game Met also Allan Nichols (Johnny Upton) and Jerry Houser (Dave Killer) with again Yvon Barette in a convention in my town. Im a huge fan I even did a Oggie Oggelthorp cosplay. Here in Quebec 🇨🇦 Slap Shot is very popular since it was translated in french Canadian
I played ice hockey in Allentown Pa. in the 70's and 80's as a defenseman . I'm 71 , and still have my skates and sticks . My gloves ? The foam disintegrated . still have my jerseys . I want one more time on the skates ( I can run and trampoline with my 3 year old grandson ) . When I first started playing , we had an open hockey ! You paid a couple of bucks and we threw our sticks in the middle of the ice . Someone stars throwing sticks to each end of the ring . Get your stick , and your on with the other guys whos sticks are with yours. If you had no goaltenders . You flip the net so the top is where the open goal should be ( in front ) . The bottom of the new is open and facing the boards behind the net . So you have to bank a shot or try to score in a small space . I met a 52 year old Swedish retired hockey player and he said . " I wake up and eat , go play hockey , eat lunch then play some hockey and then I find a women " ! Sounds like heaven to me ?
Great shoe I just got #16 #17#18. Home and away jerseys on temu. With of course Hanson on the back. Finally wanted one my whole life! I was 13 when it came out. 59 now. I bought some for my friend's to
4:49 The goalie (Denis Lemieux) was played by Yvon Barette and, 6:50 (Drouin) was played by Yvan Ponton. I don't know where "Yvonne", which is a female name, came from. Both are from the Province of Quebec.
Can anyone tell me the name of the piano piece that is used in this video? Btw…. Wow. Just wow. It is incredibly difficult to believe how much time has passed since this movie came out.
Bill "Goldy" Goldthorpe did a year with the old Richmond Wildcats of the (old) Southern Hockey League. The SHL was a real "wild west", rough-and-tumble league - the closest thing to SLAP SHOT imaginable, and Bill was its life-imitates-art Ogie! My friends and I used to jokingly call him "Frosty".
There are a few errors in the video. Like some already mentioned about both "Yvonne" not being named correctly. Yvon Barrette and Yvan Ponton. For Matthew Cowles, you mention he passed away in 2024 instead of 2014, and he passed away before his birthday, so he was 69. For Melinda Dillon, you mention she passed away in July 2023 when it was in January 2023.
I would like to bring up 2 little name mistakes and 1 major photo mistake. goaltender 's name is Yvon Barette, and player's name is Yvan Ponton, no big probleme there but in french Yvonne is a woman name. Yvon and Yvan are 2 different names. The Picture problem that i saw was at Ned Dowd presentation, the first picture is Ned but the second picture is Bill "Goldie" Goldthorpe. real hockey player that didn't make the movie to prevent insecurity issues. other than that,, great video thanks , well made.
Like seeing them but for Brad Sullivan, you said he was 29 in 1977 but died in 2008 at 75...29+31(years from movie release until 2008 passing)=60, not 75...if his age was 75 in 2008 than he was 44 when the movie came out. Also, Matthew Cowles age isn't right either and if he died in 2024, that is quite impressive since we are a year away from then...math didn't really work for this video. Other people's ages are inaccurate as well but oh well.
( 7:07 ) Yvonne it's a girl name. Yvan Ponton is actor from québec ( french from quebec and not from france, it's like english from australia and USA, very different ).
and another in July 2023. (Today it is May 26, 20203 when I'm writing this). I believe the actor that played the clubhouse attendant died several years ago- getting nowhere near 70 sadly.
Brooo! Good job on the video production, but FFS do a bit of research and make the effort to spell people's names properly. Yvon Barrette, Yvan Ponton. It's not that hard.
Hanson Bros Jerseys, and the Best of SLAP SHOT MERCH HERE - amzn.to/3OkKdLx
This brought back sweet memories. Slapshot is arguably the greatest sports movie ever and we still use some of the quotes once in a while.
I like how the Hanson brothers are still treated like one person.
No, I'm in the middle Steve's 20 and Jeff's 18. What a mom these guys had. One kid every year for three years.
@@alanpreston1822 I feel sorry for her, Jack 6 ft 6, Steve 6ft 4, jeff 6ft 3, She must be a strong woman. More power to her.
MMMbop
Paul D'Amato just recently passed away. He was a hometown hero of Spencer Massachusetts. This will be his most memorable performance.
yeah man, had read about that one!!! and oddly enough, while reading about his death, someone mentioned that this guy could've been a good Wolverine in an X-Men movie if it was filmed in the 1980's or something
Sadly M Emmit Walsh passed away March 19, 2024 still trying to capture the spirit of the thing.
Only a true fan gets this.
thats some nice writing dickie
I love the line when Paul Newman said "THEY BROUGHT THEIR FUCKIN TOY'S WITH THEM"! This line and some other one's made the movie what it is.
I agree the best line.
Add to that “They’re Fucking Morons.”
“I don’t even want to play anymore, because you broke the darn car…”
~ #18 Jeff Hanson
🏎️🤓🏒
No better sports movie that any hockey fan would love. Thanks for the update.
I was 16 playing junior hockey when I first saw this movie in '78. The antics, banter, game play, and stereotypes seemed normal to us.
Me too
Great movie. A true classic. RIP to all those passed. The best to those still with us. Thanks for The update.
Jeff Carlson was a NHL player for years and was a real hockey enforcer.
Thanks. A good memory trip.
Even though my Wife has no interest in sports, she loves this movie. Her cousin is Fred Howard who pitched for the Chicago White Sox in 1979. After that he became a well-respected surgeon...
It was a very fun movie. I saw it at an unannounced sneak preview and the whole theatre loved it. Amazed at how well the cast has aged.
Great Video. RIP to those who passed on. It's difficult to even believe that Ralphie's Mother, in A Christmas Story, Melinda Dillon, not only was in this Slap Shot movie, but also did nude (topless) scene as Hanarhan's Wife.

Putting on the foil is one of my favorite lines in slap shot
Me too. I also like, "that's what it said in the yearbook, Jim."
No one Ever used FOIL, leather and tape , seperate the knuckles. Beauce JAROS, 1975 # 14 , NAHL.
Paul D'Amato's character was John Byrne's inspiration for how the X-man Wolverine should look and act. This character is the closest thing you are gonna see to an accurate live action Wolverine.

' Dave's a killer ' 🤣
Dave’s a mess
My favorite line was when the Hanson Brothers arrived and one of them says, "I hope they have Speed Racer".
The ladies in the film have aged very well and still are beautiful.
Nice too see a lot of them still kicking. Favorite line? Thats one of those movies where they're were many favorite lines. Greatest sports comedy probably ever.
Excellent video! Thank you! What a cast! What a movie! What memories! Bless them ALL! (2024)
Great tribute
Legends all....bless them
Thanks for the updates, Great movie a must see
Well done.

She was wonderful in A Christmas Story.
Paul D'Amato is from Spencer, Massachusetts. The only guy from Spencer to get into the movies.
I had the honor to meet the Hansons when they came to Krefeld. I have pictures with them from zhe party that night. So nice guys..😂I also saw the movie several times, so funny.
Chiefs forever! Great job!
One of the greatest sports movies ever made ...great script
Maybe it's great because it isn't really about just sports.
@@barryfitzgerald785 Agreed
I was really hoping to see the Sparkle Twins (Janet & Louise Arters) in this video.
One of them died a couple years back of MS.
Luv it! You’ve got Ned Dowd’s picture (the actor who played Ogie Oglethorpe in the movie) then, and the real life picture of Bill Goldthorpe (the actual player that Ogie’s character was based on) now.
You forgot the bus driver Walt Comisky played by Cliff Thompson.
Every line in the movie is my favourite

Well done montage, excellent in fact. This was the best movie almost nobody remembers.
Nobody? Jeez I have plenty of friends who know most of the lines
I think it's considered by many to be one of the best sports movies of all time.

👍Great movie. I laughed so hard I almost pee in my pants 👖
I must have seen it 100 or more myself
Slap shot was filmed in Johnstown Pennsylvania. I was a kid I was in the audience when they film the striptease
A entertaining totally fun movie .
4:49 The goalie (Denis Lemieux) was played by Yvon Barette and, 6:50 (Drouin) was played by Yvan Ponton. I don't know where "Yvonne", which is a female name, came from. Both are from the Province of Quebec.
Was wondering what happened to Paul Newman.. did he do any other films etc. thanks for this video.
M'y favorite movie of all Time !
Can anyone tell me the name of the piano piece that is used in this video?
Btw…. Wow. Just wow. It is incredibly difficult to believe how much time has passed since this movie came out.
The last picture is of Goldy Goldthorp- the real inspiration for Ogie, not Jim Dowd.
Yeah, the latter picture of Olgie is the actual guy who was to play the Olgie Oglethorpe role. He was discharged and Nancy Dowds brother took his spot
Faaauuuk! As Moe would say. Loved the movie.

Correct
Nothing on the "Sparkle twins?"
There all Legends God bless them all
Just a correction . The goaler first name is Yvon , and first name of Ponton is Yvan .
For sure, the pic of Kathryn Walker at eighty is probably Kathryn Walker at thirty-six.
Ivan not Yvonne :) Big Hug from Montréal Québec

"They brought their toys!"
That's quite a booze bulb on mr. docken
7:37 He died in 2024? Was he a time traveler??
Where losin was one of the best statements I saw😊
I read somewhere Paul D’Amato was the inspiration for Wolverine.
Melinda Dillon - January 9th, 2023.
Wasn't she in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (sometimes jokingly referred to as "Luncheon Counters of the Worst Kind")?
Like seeing them but for Brad Sullivan, you said he was 29 in 1977 but died in 2008 at 75...29+31(years from movie release until 2008 passing)=60, not 75...if his age was 75 in 2008 than he was 44 when the movie came out. At 8:17, that lady is not 80 years old. Wrong pic, pal.
I’m not sure if many of these photos are recent ones, because they look too young to be in their 70’s or 80’s.
I literally just found out that M. Emmet Walsh passed away the other day, 3/19/24. RIP Dickie.
Yvon Barrette et non Yvonne Barret. Please, make the correction
M Emmet Walsh just recently passed away on March 19th.
You hit him in the brain reggg.
It’s not YVONNE.
The correct pronunciation of "Yvon" is typically "ee-VOHN."
6:14 Brad Sullivan wasn’t 29 when he filmed slap shot. He must have been around 45’ish.
( 7:07 ) Yvonne it's a girl name. Yvan Ponton is actor from québec ( french from quebec and not from france, it's like english from australia and USA, very different ).
The picture of ogie now looks like goldie goldthorpe now
Whatever happened to Nick Brophy? I'm shitfaced. If I get hit in the boards I'm gonna piss all over myself. Classic scene.
How about the Doublemint Twins?
The twins! You don't have the blonde twins!
RIP John Gofton
Fact ….. Paul D’amoto was the Green Baret in the Deer Hunter that said Phukk it when they bought him a drink
And Yvonne Ponton, It's Yvan Ponton.
Melinda Dillion Dies July 9th 2023? Hmmm Today's May 20, 2023. At least it wont come as a surprise...
Yvon Ponton not Yvonne ;-)
These people look good. Nothing like the age suggests. Good living..
Ned Dowd at age 72 is incorrect. The young one with afro wig is Ned Dowd but your 2003 is Bill Goldthorpe.
Paul D’Amato just passed.☹️
He also said that one of them died in 2024???
and another in July 2023. (Today it is May 26, 20203 when I'm writing this). I believe the actor that played the clubhouse attendant died several years ago- getting nowhere near 70 sadly.

God bless Nancy Dowd and her vision. She has not changed much.
All the women still look great. Crazy
It’s Yvan Ponton
I am sorry to say, may Paul D'Amato now Rest In Peace.
I wonder who my favourite is
Actually Yvonne is the femal version of Yvon in french, so both actor’s first name is Yvon.
Also, Drouin's actor is Yvan Ponton, not Yvon and even less Yvonne.
E. Emmett Walsh..R.I.P. 3/24
Thanks for NOT do what alot of these time capsule THEN and NOW do with a clickbait BS image. Will done presentation and script.
It’s Yvon Barette, not Yvonne
Matthew Cowles passed in 2014* and NOT 2024
its YVON BARETTE, not Yvonne.
His name is Yvon Barrette, not Yvonne Barrett
