    I did 2 sets of exercises on day 1 and I could feel my hip loosen up! I am amazed. After a year and a half of hip pain EVERYDAY, and after going to 2 different physical therapists for 2 months each, I have relief in 2 days!? I wonder why they did not show me these exercises… the windshield wiper exercise is very effective for me. Thank you, thank you, Thank you!!!! I am in between phase 2 and phase 3 from your other video, and I have been determined to avoid surgery if I can. Thank you for all your videos. You have saved me! :)

    I am a 78 year old female with osteoarthritis. I discovered your channel and these exercises several months ago after being told to see an orthopedic surgeon for bone on bone hip arthritis. Following these exercises has enabled me to avoid shots and surgery. I can now sleep on my hip, walk stairs again, and line dance without feeling any pain. Thank you Dr. David. I am truly grateful.

      @ Joywanless Im a 68 yr old female. I’ve been diagnosed with left hip osteoarthritis bone on bone. It has been very painful for me to move and on December 18, 2023,. I go for a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon for a hip replacement. I truly do not want to do this. I am starting these exercises gently because I suffer a lot of pain on that area. I am encouraged by what you state here and hope to soon post my gratitude on this site for getting stronger on that hip regenerating Cartlidge on that hip as well as avoiding a hip replacement. Thank you so much for your posting. I am encouraged.

    Dear Sir, I could not believe strengthening the glutes would improve my walking, which had become quite bad because of bone-on-bone hip arthritis. But I did your exercises anyway, because I had nothing to loose. I did not stop the other leg-exercises I had been prescribed for a sore knee. I just systematically added the glutes-exercises and the windshield wipers. Now, after a few months, I cannot believe I am walking better than before...but I can no longer deny that I do! So thank you very much!! Who knows I may even escape from the hip- operation! I still have 'starter-stiffness', which usually disappears after a few minutes, but that is nothing compared to being barely able to walk!

    Dr. Middaugh,
    My hubby Bill, had a titanium hip replacement (right hip) we went to Colorado to have our surgeries his surgery took 50 minutes, Dr. Kindsfater said he was a tough case & should have had the surgery done 2 years earlier he had to lengthen his leg as well. He also has had 3 knee surgeries, so he has huge scars where they did his surgeries. He hass knee pain too, I've been having knee pain as well.
    His surgery was done first as I had to apply the TED hose every morning for 2 weeks. The last day my pain in my one wrist was so bad I looked at him & told him I couldn't do it I was crying.
    The following day I went to my surgeon for counseling & that's when my surgeon noticed I had a nerve ganglion on my other wrist (I had double wrist surgeries- nerve ganglions in both & done on the same day) I'm 66 years young.
    Bill's now having trouble with his left hip, & YT sent me your video on bone on bone hip pain video and I told Bill about the clam exercise & we watched this video next. He was doing the wrong exercises & we watched this video together & now he knows what exercises to do & what ones to avoid. Bill's 82 years young, but his left hip has been popping like popped corn & has me concerned.
    Thank you, you have a paired subscription 👍🥰❣
    We live on a sailboat, so there's constant motion. We only notice the motion when it's gusty & during tidal changes.
    Once we get an exercise routein for Bill, I'll look to see if you have some exercises I can do for the pain in my wrists. I have a difficult time with lateral loads & it's something I'm unable to stop as I do all the cooking (fresh- no microwave on board by choice) hand wash dishes & hand wash clothes sometimes & hang them out to dry.
    Thank you do much for sharing your knowledge with us.
    Much more appreciated than you could possibly know.
    🤗 🙆‍♀️ & 🙆‍♂️❣

    The Bridge pose in yoga is ideal for doing butt crunches without using the muscles in the thighs. It has the added benefit of strengthening the lower and middle back. The pressure is on the shoulders, which is also good exercise (I think). What is your opinion, Dr. David?

  • @runningforgood5329
    @runningforgood5329 Рік тому +2

    I'll definitely try these exercises as they make a lot of sense. Just one point. You refer to the cartilage healing. I understood that it's not possible for cartilage to heal, as there's insufficient blood-flow in the hip region to facilitate healing. Now I'm hoping that cartilage repair is possible as it'll mean I can avoid a hip replacement.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Рік тому +5

      Hey, great point! A lot of people will say that cartilage does not heal. It is actually not true, but it does heal very slowly. That is why it is so important to keep your muscles in balance! When they are balanced, it allows optimal blood flow to the area and healing will take place over months! Hope this helps!

However, I do not want to get the other one replaced due to this 'virus' going around and the said mandates hospitals are imposing so am always trying to find solutions to this painful problem (I don't take any pain meds either).
    I bought a stationary bike but that actually aggravated the situation much to my disappointment. So I tried Suzanne Summers thigh master apparatus and that works so well. .

    So informative!!! I've been wondering if my debilitating leg cramps for almost 20 years might be a glute issue. (The muscles around my right hip are the worst). I have repeatedly tried to do a mild bridge exercise, but get hamstring cramps (sometimes even when getting into position). If I do get into position, the cramp grabs the instant the muscles begin to engage. The same is true for a "kneeling" position and I am very uncomfortable when I am prone with feet flat and knees up. No one has been able to help me. Can't wait to try these exercises and see if strengthening my glutes will calm down the hamstrings. Thank you for the hope.

    Doctor, my husband deals with hip pain on both sides. He believes the synovial fluid is dried up. My question is, does SF increase when doing these exercises? He cannot get through the night without being awaken with hip pain.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Рік тому

      Hi Hannah! 👋 We're sorry to hear that your husband is experiencing pain in both hips. We can only imagine what you've both been through. It's encouraging to see how much you want to find help for him.🧡
      While exercises can be beneficial for overall joint health, directly increasing synovial fluid is not a common outcome. However, low-impact activities can help maintain joint mobility and stiffness for individuals with limited synovial fluid.
      Hip strength, flexibility, and stability can often help alleviate hip pain and discomfort. It's essential to perform exercises correctly and at an appropriate intensity to avoid exacerbating any existing issues.
      Since your husband is experiencing significant hip pain and it affects his sleep, we recommend consulting with a healthcare professional or a qualified manual physical therapist. Without your husband getting proper rest it can delay recovery and it can affect his emotional and mental health. In the US, you can find a physical therapist trained similarly to Dr. David at this website: aaompt.org/Main/Public_Resources/Find-A-Fellow/Main/Member_Resources/Find-A-Fellow.aspx?hkey=108c9a56-f793-45e4-b3ed-cefe5d871a94
      Dr. David is a fellow of the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapists. His specialty is orthopedic manual physical therapy, which is the ideal specialty for helping someone avoid surgery, injections, and medications.
      In the meantime we have additional information and exercises in a playlist we have compiled for hip arthritis help. You can check it out here:

      “Hip Arthritis Help”
      ua-cam.com/play/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt.html
      Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.
      We hope you found this information helpful to you. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 роки тому

      Hey Margie!! Stiffness after sitting is usually a sign of arthritis. There's usually too much pressure build up in the joint and the cartilage surfaces get stuck on each other. This leads to stiffness that frees up after enough movement.

    ok mate pay attention, this may help someone. After a year and an MRI am sure I have "mild" arthritis in one hip. Caused by standing on one leg and lifting and dropping heel of other leg on a trolley throttle every ten seconds all day. My guess, weakened the glute, strengthened quads and pull it out of align. Your vid taught this.. first time i discovered this in a year of solid hip research. Can walk ...2k before it gets nasty. Front quads were having mind numbing pain on standing, solved by stretching these with foot to glutes and pull foot up,, relaxed quads and immense pain stopped. Still got immense hip pain when standing from sitting,, took a few mins to wriggle foot and hip to take any weight. Started your Glutes exercizes... took one day to improve, madly exercizing them now. ALSO.. the terrible pain on raising from sitting in hip is controlled if I contract glutes hard, ...???? the hip must "slip out" of alignment on sitting and then have to realign on standing, criminal pain. with contracting glutes this seems to pull hip back "in" .. anyhow, will continue and will inform of improvements. Madly eating good oils and fish, and fasting 16 hrs, plus curcumin, glucosamine and chondroiten. OK hope this helps you or someone with such searing quad or hip pain, as pain is enough to see stars. Many thanks, your work seems good as I have become a bit of an expert on all things arthritis and hip leg muscle stretches, strength and alignment. Yours worked literally in a few days.. more power and much love.

    I have bone on bone hip arthritis and, predictably, I've been offered steroid injections or full hip replacement. I'd prefer neither. My husband found your video which explained how to squeeze the glutes and what happens when you walk. I went around for 2 days doing glute squeezes all day long...while I was sitting at the computer, laying down watching TV, or just walking around. It was amazing how much stronger my hip became and I'm now walking almost without a limp. I can also step sideways without fear of falling. 2 days! I will try the rest of these exercises and hope that they will help me to regain some of the range of motion loss. At the very least they are helping me to walk normally again. Thank you for your thorough videos.

    Thank you Dr. David. I’m an Rn and still working at 65. I’ve been having issues for at least 5 years. It started out with noticing difficulty in doing stairs. I’ve always had strong legs and I couldn’t figure out why this was happening. I was told I have advanced degenerative discs and thought that was causing the problem. Then I started having severe groin pain on the right following a right knee replacement and saw an orthopedic doctor. When I described the severity of the groin pain and how it was affecting my ability to do things he laughed. He never said “ oh yes , that’s related to your hip issue”. He determined that I had arthritis in my hip and sent me to physical therapy. I loved my physical therapist, but honestly I didn’t get any relief. Then I when to a chiropractor that when I asked is it a mechanical issue why I was having all this groin pain he actually told me it was trauma related and not mechanical. Honestly I was very confused between my back issues and knee replacement and leg weakness and groin pain I was discouraged. Then I decided to to do a few exercises that I found on UA-cam on a daily basis and found some relief and also started to notice that the exercises were starting to get easier and I was improving my flexibility and my stiffness and strength were improving and most of all the groin pain was gone. I have since dropped a good amount of weight and eliminated foods that contribute to inflammation. I’m excited to have found you and the information you provide. I’m certain I was all of stage 2 and probably even a 3, but I’m writing this to let others know there is real truth being provided by Dr. David. Just a side note I do have a chiropractor ( not the one who said my pain was related to trauma) that I see probably once a month to keep me adjusted and she is amazing, but I now know it’s the exercises that I do daily that have benefited me absolutely the most.
