    Just a headsup incase you dont know, Ultrasonic baths should ALWAYS be filled to their minimum fill lines, if you dont you'll burnout the transducers pretty quick, if you dont want to fill the bath with chemical/alcohol then fill it with water and get a ziplock bag or small shallow container and put your chemicals and boards in that.

    I was under the impression you couldn’t put a board in an ultrasonic cleaner with the electrolytic caps in place!! Good to know I was wrong!!! THANKS

    Glad I found this channel. Its giving me the motivation to dig back into my 1.6 Xbox and finish it. I have deleted the DVD, replaced both heatsinks with low profile copper heatsinks and fans, and deleted the IDE cable to my SATA adapter by a right angle female to female adapter I made out of GPIO headers so the SATA adapter can come directly off of the board and gets its power from the DVD power adapter. I also have an ATX power adapter for it so I replaced the OG PSU with a 160 watt Pico PSU. All I have left is to install the Project Stellar HDMI mod.

    Excellent video, very well explained but I was very surprised by the CPU change. was excellent to see an increase in memory on PS2, I have not seen anyone doing something like that

    Nice video as usual! I always remove the existing solder on the pads and use an iron from the start to attach (option 2). You can get pretty precise with the amount of solder to reduce bridging and cleanup time.

    Hot Air method FTW! Also, when i did this install I would boot into xblast after each ram chip install to test before I moved on to the next chip!

      I also recommend testing with xblast after each chip installation.

    Do you think you could add the paste on before placing the chip? I wonder if that would help to prevent the chip from sliding around while applying the paste. I also wonder if you can spread the solder paste onto another surface, dip the ram chip legs into it, then place it. IDK if that would work, just spitballing here haha.

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs
      @RetroRenegadeRepairs  4 місяці тому

      You could, but it's quite a bit of pads. It'd be easier if I had a stencil to use as a guide when applying the paste.

    After weeks of waiting finally got one v 1.0 console, pretty good shape and no damage due death capacitor leak.
    I got a cheap v 1.6B I purchased it for spares and that Hitachi DVD metal case. System doesn't boot, frags even after cleaning, writing new EEPROM and recap, was with moderate water damage by the way. The question is, I can use the Hynix memory chips from this board to install on the v 1.0 to upgrade RAM or I need the Samsung ones?

    When you are desoldering the pads are you putting any pressure on them? I wrecked the pads on my first try I’m looking for tips lol

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs
      @RetroRenegadeRepairs  2 місяці тому

      I try not to apply much pressure. Is that happening when you clean the pads or when you're soldering the RAM legs?

    • @catmachete2900
      @catmachete2900 Місяць тому

      @@RetroRenegadeRepairs It was when I was going over it with the soldering braid. I was trying to slowly slide it across the pads but several of them got partially ripped from the board

    • @catmachete2900
      @catmachete2900 Місяць тому

      Yeah it was just bad technique. I practiced on the dead board and didn’t rip any pads. I was just using way to much pressure

  • @winlover37
    @winlover37 5 місяців тому

    I got a question for you! So for your 1.0-1.5 capacitor replacement service, does that include an ultrasonic cleaning of the board/remove any rust/corrosion? I'm 100% going with you for my 1.0, I'm just curious to know what exactly I'll need to purchase.

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs
      @RetroRenegadeRepairs  5 місяців тому

      In most cases the board is cleaned in the ultrasonic tank. I dislike working on a board that's all sticky with flux.
