My oldest brother when he passed away left me an unopened framed Pet Sounds album. To this day I have it hanging on my wall. He was the oldest and I was the youngest of five and he and I shared the love for the Beach Boys.

nobody warms my soul with this kind of melancholy beauty like The Beach Boys
When Paul McCartney heard the Pet Sounds LP it really caught ear and decided The Beatles had too step up their game. The result was "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Beatles released in late May, 1967. Pepper is regarded as the greatest album in history. The Beach Boys are highly underrated in my book, I feel like they never get enough love. They were a great band. ✌️☮️💕🎄

I'm 1000% sure. The Beach Boys released "Pet Sounds' on May 11, 1965.The Beatles were recording " Revolver" so "Pet Sounds" did not influence them at the time. " Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was released in late May, 1967 in the UK and the first week of June in the US. Pepper was the one influenced by "Pet Sounds"

This song, I believe, is widely regarded as Brian Wilson's masterpiece. I'm not a music critic, but I do believe this is so complex in it's music and harmonies, it probably is -- almost like a concerto! PLUS, it's just a beautiful song and sentiment.
Brian has so many masterpieces. Even the recent "From There to Back Again" is a masterpiece.

The song and album are all time greats. Some people only know their music as surf rock but they went way beyond that.

I really really recommend the fantastic 2014 film Love & Mercy - about Brian Wilson and the recording of the Pet Sounds album. W/John Cusack and Paul Dano.
This is used at the end of British movie love actually.the last scene is in the airport we see all the characters from all the various stories a few months on then the song starts playing and they show real people meeting each other off the planes it's quite moving

The BBC put out a great cover of this song some years back with a ton of musicians including Brian Wilson, Elton John, Dave Grohl, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell, One Direction, Coldplay, Brian May from Queen, and a ton of others.

The genius that is Brian Wilson. Nobody else like him in the history of pop music. The Beach Boys are one of the greatest groups of all time. I think you will love "Add Some Music to Your Day" and their entire SUNFLOWER album from 1970.

In the late 60's when I was a toddler, my mother would play this song over and over and knew it by heart.

Such a beautiful song! Pop and rock music generally shed their teeny bopper roots during this period and began to mature, dealing with more serious themes and taking more musical risks. This song is a lot different from "Surfin' USA."

There's a BBC promotional video of a dozen or so great musicians and singers, including Brian Wilson, doing this song, and it is AMAZING. Lorde, Elton John, Chrissy Hynde, Dave Grohl, New Direction, Brian May... This song is one for the ages.
You should check out Elliott Smith between the bars. This beach boys song is about loving some one but the Elliot song is pretty much about alcohol loves you. So pretty and sad.
The Beach Boys as a group are underrated by most people. The main problem was while Brian Wilson is a musical genius he was by himself, he did not have the same type of support that The Beatles had. The Beatles were four guys working together to achieve musical perfection and they had help from George Martin producing some of the most incredible rock albums of all time.
