If you've made it this far in the description, remember to be safe when creature adventuring! Most wild animals can cause injury if harassed, and I do not recommend attempting to capture any creatures without purpose and practice. The reason that I interact with wildlife is to produce these educational videos, and I have years of zoology experience under my belt. Dude, great video! Love your channel, you’ve got some Steven Irwin vibes for sure (with the live action racer capture and the way you you were laying right above that copperhead! Awesome stuff! I live in Michigan and have caught snakes up here but this year I caught my first racer in Florida and found my first cottonmouth and Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake (no touchy on that one)

My kids, 8&6, love finding and identifying snakes and amphibians on our hikes. They both have successfully found, identified, and handled garter snakes, but not handled anything larger.

I absolutely love this concept, and I really like how your take on it is very animal-focused, less so than catch-focused. We are going to be taking the levels of difficulty concept in a very unorthodox direction in the next few months on our channel and I have really been enjoying seeing your take on it, Spencer's take, and hopefully more from other people soon! You found five beautiful snakes, I'm still missing my copperhead for the year but I've been lucky enough to see all the others, in NC no less! Great work as always Ben!

Ben living here in the South I have seen my share of snakes 🐍. The most Beautiful one was a Coral snake and I have only seen one in my life. Keep up your good work my friend. Have a Blessed Day Ben 🙏.

Thanks for the video! My son and I watched and we were smiling at each other. We're excited to be level 3. Handling black rat snakes and eastern king snakes is a new milestone for us this summer. Starting to get more comfortable with them. Still a bit nervous of bites though.
That's fantastic, glad you could enjoy the video together! Level three is very respectable, once you take the first bite you'll get past the fear and be all good to go.
Well, I got a close up of your level 5 today. I was picking up sticks and debris from a flower bed and a Copperhead slithered between my feet and scared me to death!

Love the video my friend! I'd consider myself a level 5. I've always loved catching anything non venomous. I have captured copperheads and relocated them. But never handled one personally. Again, amazing video! Be safe and have a great day.

What a catch on that Racer. I run into them in the woods all the time while hunting in Alabama. I always try to get closer for a better look but they are so stinkin fast and usually bolt before I can get close!!

When i lived with my dad, we had this area that had perfect boards and tin for snake hunting out on CapeCod MA, We once found a black racer under a board and it was weird, we held him and then let him go, Another time we found a spotted salamander, I was so happy since it was my first reptile ever Haha.

Great video! You’re a brave guy. We have several garter snakes here at my property upstate NY, copperheads and racers (among others) at my home in SC. I’m definitely not touching any of them, poisonous or not.
Great concept for a video with detailed explanations. Well done, well done. Totally agree with the "body of water" for a place to start, always tell peeps that. Harder in AZ, but still. Not sure what level we're at, don't think there is a level for vinesnakes.

I've seen all of these in NC but copperheads are so common in my area, that's like 60% of the snakes we see 😂.
I've always been terrified of snakes, but over the last couple years I've been trying to shake some of that. I started with picking up a King snake with welding gloves haha. Then two days ago had a Garter makes its way onto my porch that I handled with smaller leather gloves. I'm still a big baby, but trying to not be irrationally fearful of these cool creatures. Better late than never I guess. Thanks for the great content dude!

You make it look so easy and they really seem to like you. I think they would sense my anxiety and bite me right away.
That garter is an absolute unit!
Never found one quite that big in Kentucky however some are very Agro and will do a swirling defense display.
Also, they are totally venomous, just not to humans, think on that !

I wanted to see this because I have a garter snake at my grandmas pond that’s eating the frogs so I want to catch it and transport it befasse I’ve been catching frogs for 8 years on I Finally found out why there was only 2 frogs in 2021 and 2020 so I watched this and now I guess I know how to catch a garter snake. Thank you!

They are! Definitely among my favorite snakes (if not my favorite).
I just started a couple of years ago working on over coming a fear of snakes by learning about them. Now I am intrigued and excited. and I would say I am a level one am still intimidated by bigger snakes only been brave enough to pick up worm snakes and Carolina brown snakes, I have found rat snakes, red belly’s, but I am still too worried about the bitting part even if I know they are not venomous. I am still looking for the corn snake but I just can’t find one.
Great job Ben. I've seen so many videos on snakes but I really can not recall anyone showing the "butter milk" racer. Do you have I your area? I'm in northern louisiana and I see plenty of them.

Saw my first Snake in Virginia, in over 5 years yesterday. Makes me sad that they are not around as they were just a few years ago. It was a beautiful 4 foot Rat Snake. I was pressure washing a house, when I saw him crossing the lawn. I stopped and just appreciated the moment until he went on his way of catching rodents. I wish that people would stop with the rat poison, it's killing EVERYTHING!

I'm a novice but see black rat, copperhead and rough green snakes where I walk the trails and I'm looking forward to trying to pick them up....(well 2 out of the 3, not the copperhead obviously!).
Awesome! I didn't include rough greens in this list but they would probably be close to a level four, those little noodles can be a tough spot if they are hidden amongst green foliage.

I live in East Tx. And I’m not sure what level I am. I will catch any snake that’s not venomous. I’m not experienced enough to pick up a poisonous one. I love your videos and think they are super important for people who are scared of snakes and will kill any snake they find. I try and tell my friends that snakes are good for the environment and help with so many things. But it always seems to go in one ear and out the other. But thank you for the great info and keep it up!

Did you see the rat snake at the end? It was shaking its tail like it was a rattlesnake. Almost sounded like it too because it was rustling against leaves.
Also how do you not constantly get poison ivy or whatever laying in the grass and leaves like that?
Yeah they do that as a predator deterrence mechanism! And I'm not allergic to poison ivy thankfully.
@@TheWildReportOfficial well congrats on being in the 15% who aren't. I figured that reaction was just kind of the way it went for everyone allergic or not. I've been out trying to find snakes here recently. I found two But I either couldn't get to them or by the time I came back with something to catch them they had run off, figuratively speaking of course.. Probably not smart cause I can't really tell the different between them, but they were both tiny and by the water. I know they weren't cotton mouths, but that's about it lol.

I’m probably at a level 3, I’ve handled Black Rat snakes but also a racer (I didn’t catch it - that’s another story).
I would be a level -0. Not a snake lover, I just respect them.

Mole kingsnake is an advanced snake, which I have found 3 of. After 5 0 years of experience, I have been able to enjoy them. I'm sure you remember that Grey ratsnake that I found. I'm sure she wasn't evil, just defending herself. Nice job. John
Yeah mole kings are like a level 10 or something, which is probably why I've never found one haha
@@TheWildReportOfficial Ben listen to me, they don't stray far from their hole and they will be down it so fast it's not funny. When I see one I block their escape hole. The snake has no where to run to. I'm giving you my experience so remember that if you see one.

I’ve caught a milk snake this year. I’ve seen two others unfortunately they were dead. I’ve lived in the same location for 25 years and this is the first year I have ever seen a milk snake.

To be honest if I ever want to see any kind of snake I literally just have to walk in my yard where I routinely see gardener snakes, Northern water snakes and a snake that does not look like any other that lives underneath this pile of wood chips

The best way to find snakes? Follow the turkeys. They're relentless snake hunters.
I've never seen it myself but I have heard numerous times now that turkeys will attack snakes. Maybe I'll see it in the wild someday!
@@TheWildReportOfficial Pennsylvania is crawling with turkeys, so I've seen them hunting, but I haven't seen a catch. I've got some videos of them doing it on my "Turkey Say No!" playlist, but the best exploration of the topic I've seen is a PBS doc from about 15 years ago called "My Life As A Turkey" about a wildlife biologist who raised a clutch of orphaned turkey eggs to see how many of their behaviors were instinctive, and how many were learned from parents.

Ben, Im enjoying your videos while I'm stuck here in the hospital. What's interesting is neither you or the Wildlife Brothers has ever found the beautiful mole kingsnakes I have?
Since early 2021 to present 5 catches ranging from 11 inches to 33 inches. I did it in North Carolina too. I want one more season to show my last season 2023 herping.
See now with blood thinners it becomes more dangerous, Next month I turn 57, you know your target, find one for me. John
