Funny Chimps, So Human-Like

- I saw these captive chimpanzees while visiting the Barcelona Zoo.
This video captures their behavior after another visitor threw food into their enclosure. I found it interesting to observe the different behavior displays among individual chimps.
Please note that I DO NOT agree with any kind of teasing or taunting of animals, captive or wild, this includes zoo visitors feeding zoo animals. However, I wanted to share this video for those interested in great ape / primate behavior in a zoological setting.
Lastly, sorry my voice is so annoying in the background ;)
this looks like my high school..
OceanBlue Christopher Columbus in the bx actually
Ha
Am I the only hispanic guy in school?
I laugh so hard on this... i know you probably would have forgot about the comment but that is still so true
Love Love no but certainly their behaviour ...
They remind me of my Italian family that talks with the hands .
They're so amazing....
lol imagine if the audio is what they were thinking of these people
They are giving us a warning about the random chimp event
thats Cesar!
Now realize that humans are true Savages stuck in a superior complex
It sickens me to know that we possess the audacity to imprison self-aware fellow hominids.

He wanted him to move out his way.

He did it because a few seconds earlier he caught the food, and he was saying "nice catch bro". Just like football players pat each other's butts.
just like my great-great relatives they look
yea, he even claps once after that while watching him.
amazingly expressive and human like,
give them a million years and they will stick a flag in the moon
***** how does it work then?
Biologists have proven that mutations happen naturally every few generations. Though they may not look like us after a milion years, their inteligence would be similar.
Fael e kika Fabri we see our evolution and become amazed with ourselves, rather selfishly, and we forget to see that the other species are evolving likewise and the very forces of nature that fostered our evolution are acting on them as well. Although brutal force is still an important asset for animals, intelligence is being favored in the animal kingdom. The animals of the present are more intelligent than animals of the past. And this happaned without human intervention. Birds can build complex nests, beavers build complex dams, chimps can talk to humans using simple signs and dogs can learn to perform many different kinds of tasks. I'm confident that if we humans weren't here, another intelligence, different in appearance but similar in scope and depth would emerge.
yowza Oh yeah, there could have been civilizations before humans but it might be unlikely.
@yowza they choose different path
I like when you said "How can you not find them fascinating?" They are so fascinating. I love to watch their behavior.
Our closest living relatives and we treat them like shit. Destroy their worlds. Put them in cages and laugh at them for our amusement. sigh.
...very true : (
And do I care no.
Joey Rivera That just says a lot more about you than it does them.
to me it looks like they enjoy the attention they get.
They are put in jail, and their captors charge people money to see them.

when chimps or bonobos extend their hands they are inviting you to their territory its a great honor in human terms to them
Nabiya Ri chimps and all animal's have emotions and intelligence some people think animals are just simple but i think humans lost the ability to connect with nature some they dont really understand animals besides scientific research
Destin Fate Nobody's arguing that they don't have emotions and intelligence. But they were more than likely begging for food because, hey, potential for free food. They... tend to do that. Most animals still operate on the primitive mindset of "survival" whereas we've evolved out of the "survival" mentality and live a life of leisure.
I don't think chimps would just welcome some strange human they've never seen before into their territory. That's just me, though. Or, you know, they may possibly be Bonobos, who are a LOT more laid back than chimps.
SeanStrife រយហដកោស្ថ្ិមសនច្ក
***** people do studies on animals they are alot smater than people think they are, i think it has to do alot with religious beliefs that people put them sevls on top mostly. But in fact we are animals too only that sets us apart is our smarts and arrogance and the impact we have on this planet
***** Bonobos aren't really violent, though, and those are Bonobos. If it was a chimp, you'd have a point though.
We should stop imprisoning these conscious beings.
+Tuna Tezgel Yeah, the title made me realize this too. If they are so human-like, maybe locking them up in a cage for our amusement is just as bad as having slaves for amusement... But there will always be those people who say: "They were raised there, they don't know any better.". So If i kidnap your kid after birth and raise them in a cage, does that make the fact that I caged your kid better?
+Nathan Prins That is not really a cage to those chimps,it is their home and they have a very nice family unit and structure. All the chimps in this video look very happy and healthy, physically and mentally. So that is a strong indication they are not suffering from captivity. A lab chimp however will shows terrible signs of abuse and major behavior issues, now that is something to get outraged over, these guys however are living the good life.
Brenda Boyd You're right. Maybe to me it's seems pretty harsh because I'm used to freedom. But then again, does it make it right, because they don't know any better?
Animals at a zoo are unused to the wild and don't know how to survive but if we trained them back to their original ways then we could release them, ignorant turds just want to see animals in prison because they're selfish bastards.
Mr_anonymous_ sub If we stick a newborn baby in a cage and let it grow up there would it not be cruel because it doesn't know any better?

I don't know why everyone thinks they're being imprisoned. Living in a zoo is much easier than being in the wild, especially the African wild. They have guaranteed food and water plus they're safe from predators and they probably have medical care. They should be paying rent lol
No
In the wild they travel hundreds of miles in a week. This is like them being locked in someone else's bedroom with nothing to do.

Ehhhhh that'sa not'a right. What's the matta for you.
People are afraid to face the fact that were no different to animals fish bugs ect when it comes to life an death. because we can think on a higher level we think of are self's as gods an preach that there is a perfect world waiting for us when we die. But really death is just simply the end of life when you die your dead just like everything else that dies, you rot away in the ground an go back to your non existing state just like before you were born your simply nothing again you don't exist. In the end were all just living to survive.
It's because people want to cling to this idea that we're special (or specifically the individual themselves) and just don't want to accept that we are animals, and it's this level of intelligence that we have that makes us different from those animals and, in fact, the most dangerous of all of the species.
SeanStrife indeed
No! Maybe your afraid that if God's real....... then your in deep shit!
elex lopez If God's real, I doubt he's the Christian God, considering so many stories have been lifted from mythologies that existed prior to Christianity even existing.
As long as SPACEMONKEY288 isn't off killing people or robbing people or anything like that, I doubt he's in that deep of shit.
+SeanStrife To what you were saying before, it is the fact that we're intelligent and can do many more things than any other species is what makes us not like animals and is why we are special.
98% the same DNA as humans
90%
yeah... try again dude
No.
Um... No.
It's true. 98% of chimps DNA is similar to humans. If you disagree then you're in denial and should educate yourself before you quickly shut things down.
I wonder if they know we're related to them
They probably see us as similar and wonder why we don't talk or hang with them more. They want attention.
haha probably lol.
SWLinPHX they must be dumb.. any smart species would've figured out by now that we're certified assholes.
They must believe we are the same as them except taller and paler, they're really smart and can probably see the similaritiesm
விஷ்ணு கார்த்திக் They aren't dumb, they're almost as smart as us except they can't speak and aren't civilised by our standards.
so human-like, except they're in a jail.
GG2K7AU05 No you stupid i didn't mean there's no difference i mean so humans live in a cage i don't even belive in evolution
Hiwa Joe you don't have to believe in it, you just have to know that evolution is scientifically proven.
No it's Not Scientifically proven you should study again
Hiwa Joe Wait... So you believe in creationism?
Btw, there's a major difference between a theory and a scientific theory. A theory is a wild speculation. A scientific theory, on the other hand, is... more like a conclusion, based on observations and evidence. Evolution, whilst isn't perfect in explaining everything (like all scientific theories, we don't deal with absolute truth. They "evolve" as more evidence and experimental results become available), is the most acceptable explanation out there. Creationism, in contrast, is just a theory that mimics science involving a few religiously conservative people in lab coats, with little or no qualifications in the field of science they're supposedly dealing with. It is merely a negative argument against evolution (no other known scientific theories are based on negative arguments)
So, in a way, The "Theory of Evolution" is scientifically "proven" in that we can observe the patterns through genetic analysis. We see evolution in bacteria, viral proteins. In fact, you get to experience it every time you fall ill with common cold (every new strain of common cold virus is a result of evolution taking place).
Source: Environmental engineering student
yes the species evolve yes i belive in that and i don't need scientiste to prove me that because it's observable for any one who have been in contatct with animals for a long period but i don't belive in darwin evolution the species evolve but don't change in kind the evolution that i don't belive in is like a fish turns to an ape that's stupid i can't belive in such things or an ape turns intelligent and al the hair fall off and become a human this is stupid
What do you expect with DNA matching for 98,7%... If reality doesn't prove for you that we came from the same primal ancestors, I don't know what will.
geerenmo on the other hand, we share 90% of our genome with pigs..
Humans and bananas share 50% of their DNA.
Wat kind of dumb logic is that? those chimps and gurillaz are just in the shape of humans... of course they will look like humans.. doesn't mean we were chimps 100000 years ago... please stop this non sens lol
FeelsBadMan n,
Humans weren't chimps you idiot. We share a common ancestor though.
Then you don't know what proof means. Correlation =/= causation. Watermelons don't come from the ocean, despite being almost all water. They may share an ancestor. Your DNA claim is not proof of it.
They aren't actually asking for food that is a gesture most apes do and it means they are asking you to come in and hang out with them. It's a form of acceptance sometimes they do it to apologize to other apes and sometimes it's to welcome them back in the troop if they've been outed. I'd feel special if they were doing this to me I don't usually see chimps do this to tourist.
***** I'll pass. Chimps are unpredictable and ten times stronger than me. One wrong move and I'm dead.

I worked at a zoo for about 4 months and I learned and saw a lot of what goes on behind the scenes for the care of animals in a zoo. Most animals that live in zoos that are located in America are well feed and well looked after and some of the zoo keepers would even say spoiled rotten. Most have a very strict diet, and even though you may not be feeding them anything that seems harmful to them, it actually can be. Most food has to be grown by the zoo or goes through a sterilization process to remove any kinds of bacteria or pesticides. The food the zoo gives them, also has extra vitamins the animals need. This is how the keepers keep track of their wellness as well as a means to move the animals in and outside. If you are at a zoo DON'T feed the wildlife, and if you feel comfortable doing so, please tell others to not as well.
You talk waaay too much lol didn’t read any of it.

Great Video! Some of the gestures, body posture and such have been learned from interacting with humans. If they grew up in the wild they probably wouldn't use an open hand gesture in the same way as we do; I don't think it makes it any less amazing. Humans around the world use different gestures to communicate, and these monkeys are doing the same. Not just imitating, but communicating.
True, thanks man!

They're chimps not monkeys
Chimps aren't monkeys; They are APES.
Not true, They Use Some basic Hand Signs In Nature too. For example, extending a Hand is Greeting Among Chimpanzees.
Many people don't understand that, that's our cousins! And it feels so strange to me to have them locked up in a zoo.
I wish I could play with them without them killing me
watching animals like apes makes it really seem like they have thoughts and feelings just like us, but it's really hard for me to understand the idea of not having a language to think in. understand what I'm saying? how do you have thoughts without words? mind boggling.

@@wowalamoiz9489 I am dead serious. And they will have kids who will be authorative figures in society 20 years from now. But on this day, they urging other animals, more decent, whose kids will make their kids look like authorative figures.
@@vidantha Are you aware of the extent of chimp tribal conflicts, or how chimp tribal society is structured?
@@wowalamoiz9489 it is not structured. Chimps are too sensitive and all they are looking for a saviour to save them, atleast to give them a reflection that is solid, like they are fed up of proving that they are actually good beings and those stuffed emotions have been just come parallel with a diameter of a bucket, they have become hyper defensive. They are already at high positions, now there is nothing above it they can get the view of, it's scary and frustrative. All the hard works and money they earned so fast is not even working on their favour to give them a radiance of godly beings. What did they miss out while coming all away along. Did they forgot to spellcast like I do. They is always a fear, if someone gonna take that Godly image that they had strived for all these years. If there is that someone that reflects great image, it can't be possible because in the structure of chimps it's the chimps that are Godly, now one must do exactly how chimps do to build the majority of Gods.
That's my way of thinking about chimps structure, that's obviously a lot of words of comedy.

So cute. Until you see what they get up to in their natural habitat. Like hunting other species of monkey for fun and tearing them apart - certainly not to eat them. They also have a serious crime problem in and between their communities such as multiple murder. So yes, very human.

Adrenalin844 Lol.
I think they are mimicking the behaviour of humans they have seen on other days. Waving to get their attention, etc. Holding out their hand when receiving things from the keepers, rather than snatching them dangerously. They probably do want food, because they bare bored, and all facing the area where the humans are standing. They are definitely frustrated, bored and seeking stimulation from the visitors.

I swear to god, i think I must be watching planet of the Apes too much. But it really sparks the question: Is it really possible? Come on guys, think about it, I swear that these creatures, no, OUR COUSINS (in history, you better remember this parenthesized sentence for those who don't read the whole comment, or else you'll sound stupid) are just imprisoned in this zoo. Why can't everyone see that (rhetorical question unless you have the answer I'm looking for)? In my opinion, it's religion/money. Another thing is that they look very intimidating. But they are beautiful creatures once they see their own world. Mankind (well the twisted ones and the "blind ones" will) will soon regret keeping them in zoos. All the other animals too. Someones got to back me up on this! I bet all of you people have thought the same! This goes for all the other animals in the zoo! Just remember us and every other animal in the world came from one common ancestor! Kudos to Frederik in the comment section for this last part.

BonyBack Bailey Would you mind telling me who that common ancestor is?
Porfirio Aguayo Some species of primate that lived millions of years ago. I don't think we discovered it yet. It is generally accepted by most scientists that it looked more like a chimp than a human.
The one sitting on the rock has a question.
Set them freeeee!
Antonio Giorgi They might not immediately attack the humans, but given a few hours I bet they could find out that they could take what they want by force.
Guy Mcdude i guess you also are affriad of pitbulls than?? since some have been on the media for attacking people... just because they can does not mean they will... i have seen plenty of these guys that are just sweet .. they are one of the most gentle apes known to man... unless you get one being abused or beaten... then how can you blame them? other than that they are very gentle natured... even with humans..
No I am not afraid of any animals, least of all, pit bulls. This is because I know that most animals do not actively seek out humans as part of their nature. All I am saying is that animals are opprotunists and will just go with the most efficient way to get what they want. It is also entirely possible that the apes would just ignore the humans and do their own thing.
Guy Mcdude they aredeffinatly oppurtunistic... but if you think about it... when you have idiots that throw you food on a daily basis these people are only teaching them that people equal food... and they are the same people that will late have a fit if they saw one in the wild looking for food from them... its those kind of idiots that teach them then panic when they expect it again... its almost like pavalovs dog... if your dog gets used to eating everytime i bell rings... then the door bell rings and the dog comes running.. lol cant blame the dog... its the moron that teaches them this stuff.. then has a fit when they learned it... know what i mean?
Guy Mcdude
its like always feeding my dog in the morning... so he knows when i wake up he will get fed.. its routine... but i cant wake up one morning and say "how dare you expect me to feed you!" when in reality its my fault that he expects to eat at that exact time... the chimps just learn what they are taught... people dont realize they are smart enough to put 2 and 2 together than panick because they figured it out.
