Dave, I don't post here much but I just want to say I'm always impressed by how thoughtful you are when it comes to lyrical breakdowns. You see things that I definitely don't see. Regardless of whether they are what the singer intended or not is kind of irrelevant - you see things and that's what it means to you. I appreciate the depth that you bring to the lyric side of these reactions. I also appreciate your ability to recognize the musical structures and what they bring to a song as well.

I'm a pretty big Metallica fan. There's really only one album I can truly say that I didn't like. That's the St. Anger album. I think there was only maybe one song on the whole album I liked. It's an album that just seemed like they lost their way and just tried too hard to be new or different. They just tried too hard and in my opinion failed. I liked pretty much everything else they have released. Even when people were talking crap about the Load and Reload albums, I really enjoyed them.
I believe they were super lost between the Reload and St. Anger years and the album takes the crap. The sound kinda sucks in the CD version but maybe it was intented to be that way just to move on and still being able to play music together
Hetfield didn't write all the lyrics, Kirk has given no solos, i don't think that Lars wanted to sound like that because he would never play again with snare on each song in the past years and Rob was the best of all playing the album rehearsals
