Really late to the party here, but I didn't see anyone mentioning this so... This is the 3rd song by Metallica on the Cthulhu mythos, created by the father of modern horror, H.P. Lovecraft. This song is specifically is about the _Hounds of Tindalos,_ a truly terrifying being, that I recommend you looking it up as it will bring some clarity to the lyrics. IMO the best song on the album as well. The four Cthulhu songs in order are, _Call of Ktulu, The Thing That Should Not Be, All Nightmare Long,_ and _Dream No More._
Ayyy someone who knows the deal haha! I actually didn't know about the 4th Cthulhu song! Was it off of Hardwired? I haven't listened to that album in full but I loved what I did hear
My initial favorite from this album was cyanide. It was super catchy and I couldn't stop jamming it lol. But this song and the official video are miles above awesome.
I remember James remarking about this song when Death Magnetic came out. He said “It wasn’t my favorite. It was too much stop and go.” Hey, I liked it, but at least he’s honest! 🍻
To me, MetallicA has evolved in many ways, one of the is that they've become a LOT better at using the visual medium to help tell their stories along side the music. Having said all that, if you want a deeper look into this song, watch their official video.
@@nachocheez9690 the song is about running away from something you can't run away from. The video is literally that, people trying to run away from what they created.
The song is based off of the story "The Hounds of Tindalos"; it's in the same vein as The Thing That Should Not Be which is based off of the Cthulhu mythos. Metallica has some deep meanings in their songs, but they also write songs based on other stories they've read, like how For Whom the Bell Tolls is written directly in reference to the book of the same title and One is based on the book/movie "Johnny Got His Gun"
Great reaction,Dave! This song has always been my fave and, I think anyways, the best song on the record. "That Was Just Your Life", "End of The Line" " The Day That Never Comes" and "Cyanide" are all worth checking out as well.
The snare really stands out. I haven't heard Metallica in like 20 year's. Did they start producing their own work? It all sounds divided and garage recorded. I'll need to listen to more. They still hit though. Imagine the breakdown and chorus while Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso fight each other in an all out karate brawl! 🔥🔥🔥
This song from Death Magnet (2008) is definitely a sign of their return to their roots in thrash metal! Although this album really suffered when it comes to production, I'd recommend listening to some remixes on youtube which make the song sound less like a wall of sound!
This sounds like they used the very original release for the vid instead of the almost-immediately remastered digital version. Check wikipedia for "Loudness Wars", this album was almost a total victim that was pulled back from the brink by the band right before pressing, but still took a hit.
Check out Suicide and Redemption from the same album, it's their most recent instrumental, and I swear, the stages of the song literally show the stages of depression, it's THAT intense.
Great reaction once again Dave. I'm not sure myself the true meaning behind the lyrics, the video is again about war, specifically the Cold War era. So I can't say what the song's really about, but I'm leaning towards drug abuse as well. Check out Suicide and Redemption from this album, another one of Metallicas Epic instrumentals, it's 10 minutes of awesomeness.
The song is about ktulu, a Celtic mythological creature and I think it's there third song about ktulu. The first one was Call of Ktulu from Ride the Lightning album and the second one is The Thing that Should Not Be from Master of Puppets album and this one.
Great reaction, I’d forgotten about this song. It was pretty big. I’m sure the WWE even used it. Very chaotic! if you want the best Metallica song in 30 years and I’m not kidding. Spit out the Bone from the last album WOW. Not the official video though too distracting.
Saw them in Denver about seven years ago. I wished they played all nightmare long. But either to weather delay or not on the Playlist it wasn't played. If it was I would of screaming out the lyrics
The song is based on interdimensional creatures that go from one parallel world to another hunting for you. There's more to it, but that's it in a nutshell
Dave, I know you like jazz and what not so you might want to see if you can react to material off the the new S&M2 album, its Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra--they basically work together to cover Metallica songs and there is one Metallica + Symphony for a classical song. I think you would dig it. I'd also recommend checking out tracks from the first one.
I will tell you this about the album Death Magnetic, it doesn't get the love it should IMO. It was the needed follow up to the disappointing St. Anger (IMO the worst Metallica album ever made(no Lulu doesn't count as it was with Lou Reed and not a true solo album. Also, IMO, St. Anger feels like it was the culmination of what ended up being that video Some Kind of Monster and while it had some good ideas and even partial songs, overall was subpar Metallica in a bad way. And especially the audio mixing.). I also liked its .5 sequel Beyond Magnetic, an album I didn't even know exited till like a year or after it actually came out. That was a nice little EP bonus to tack on to Death Magnetic. Actually Dave, if I were to suggest some good stuff of that album: Cyanide; Suicide and Redemption (instrumental),; My Apocalypse; Broken, Beat & Scarred, The End of the Line. Honorable mention to The Day That Never Comes. Unforgiven III isn't bad, but I am more a fan of the first one. If you checkout Beyond Magnetic hit up Hate Train. That said, the other three songs on the EP aren't bad.
Ah nice, I love drumming to this song because it's got so many change ups and the whole thing is at a fun pace This album had some really unfortunate mixing, the songwriting itself is pretty tight though
Alot people hated on this album when it came out. And up till this, I think a majority of material they put out after the black album was awful. But this was redemption
Death Magnetic is a masterpiece of an album, it never gets old!
Yes! Thank you
plus it's probably my favorite album cover

@@FandangoHoward Yup, it's on Hardwired. It's really good. That entire album is amazing.
James counted one, two.
You should see their live performance of this song. I suggest Mexico 2009. The crowd did the counting.
everytime i listen to this song i imagine this live performance counting moment! :D
@@adamkovac1991 Epic, isn't it?
James did say Mexico has the best crowds 😏
This was my favorite song from Death Magnetic.

Billy Bishop Cyanide’s bassline is fire
@@Mkll190 totally agree. Actually still love jammin cyanide. But this song is next level imo lol
'That was just your life', deserve a place along these
Yep, and the day that never comes and that was just your life for me also
It’s a furious and violence pursuit. You can run but you only die tired.
My favorite Metallica song in the last 30 years... definitely when back to their roots on this one
That pause reaction was exactly mine when I heard it in 2008. "Well, that... OH CRAP IT'S STILL GOING!"
If you ever ask James “what was that song about?” he will always reply “what was it about for you”?
Broken beat and scarred is another great
Track from this album.
Think you're ready for the solo on "Judas Kiss" on the same album? I think you're ready.
My favourite one. And then Rebel of Babylon from beyond magnetic :P
Live at Fan can
Fuck me that solo is good
👌🤘
I view the lyrics as personifications of Trauma.
Oh man , you have to react to The day that never comes or That was just your life off the same album. Killer tracks!
Yeahhh i love this song
My Apocalypse!
Watch the official video to this when you have a few free minutes. It is amazing!
YOU HAVE GOT SEE THEM LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love when it went quiet and you thought it had finished.... gold dust right there
I remember James remarking about this song when Death Magnetic came out. He said “It wasn’t my favorite. It was too much stop and go.”
Hey, I liked it, but at least he’s honest! 🍻
I know that you notice ,,your obsession" and realize the meaning!
You got the point again, nice!
I love that you’re genuinely diggin’ this shit. No one is safe when Metallica is laying down those galloping riffs!
The song that got me addicted to metallica when I was about 15years old and picked up a guitar and never looked back
Same
Death Magnetic is a criminally underrated album. You gotta do My Apocalypse and Judas Kiss.
One of my all-time favorites! Yes! Great to share the experience!
Love your reaction pal, metallica gives people different takes on songs I love it

No do not listen to Greg, the video has nothing to do with the song. Music videos take away from songs so much
@@nachocheez9690 the song is about running away from something you can't run away from. The video is literally that, people trying to run away from what they created.

What it do homie. Keep grinding. Great reactions.
Drum kit men! Awsome
Dude, i enjoy watching your videos, and how you visualize the songs 💯
My favourite song of death magnetic album
Been a subscriber for a while now I recommend you watch the live concert. See them in all their glory
I have a quite a few reactions to their live stuff. I went on a binge of those not to long ago.
Unreal bro
Check out Suicide and Redemption from the same album, it's their most recent instrumental, and I swear, the stages of the song literally show the stages of depression, it's THAT intense.
This song gives me like a chernobyl vibe always has done, and the aftermath of nuclear warfare but that's just me 🤘
