If you find that the paint does not last, look for the black pipe fittings next time or make sure your paint can stick to galvanized. Many paints cannot stick to zinc because they react forming a slippery zinc compound between the metal and paint.
You could also remove the zinc, but the painted fittings are probably easier to begin with.

Very nice! Maybe installing a funnel at the top would capture more ? And a rain barrel below it to keep all the water off your porch?
