as someone who's toddler is quickly pulling apart all his papercraft buildings, the idea of rugged/fast/cheap terrain speaks to me on a spiritual level great video, jeremy!
I found out if you do this with the paper left on, you can pull it off after and you are left with a rubberized piece of paper you can wrap around cylindrical shapes. Wizard tower bricks!
I literally just painted my first rubber battle mat and wondered how I could make some quick ruins... The timing is amazing. Edit: Yup, definitely going to make these!
So simple! Slapping on any extras can also adjust it to any theme! Little "metal" bits turns it modern like rebar sticking out, or even adding fake plants up the sides makes it look like forgotten ruins in a jungle or woods. Such an easy idea with so many uses
3 layers of foamcore is a neat idea. Normally I’d reach for a single sheet of insulating foam, but I found some old foamcore in the garage covered in dust and spider poop that can’t be used for much else, so this is a timely video.
I love all this calk ideas. I never would of thought of using it. I can imagine just finding textured rough rocks on a walk and just mashing the rock into the calk
Taking a few extra minutes to push some cut up paper clips as “rebar” and maybe cutting a doorway or two into some of the walls would really push this over the top without much extra effort.
LOVE this build. It's so simple. I don't build much terrain because of the time investment and seemingly not having the right tools to get a good time investment/results ratio, but this is SO doable with what I have. Thanks dude. For anybody thinking about the sponsor: Into the AM shirts are dope. I'm 6'6", 220 lbs, athletic build, I wear their large size. They're super comfortable and have great artwork. They shrunk somewhat lengthwise to be on the shorter side for me, but not too short. They also make your arms and shoulders look hella good if you lift at all. Highly recommend, worth every penny.
I like these a lot, you can do some 7 inch pieces and add corners halfway up for ruined two story buildings with ledges where you can hide chests and other kinda stuff
"I'm not dead, some of you are probably wondering if I was dead but I'm not I kind of feel like it though sometimes because I'm pretty tired" This hit me on a spiritual level
I was scrolling through my UA-cam subscriptions yesterday night and I was wondering if you were okay. Of course less than 12 hours later you upload this. Hope you enjoyed your family vacation. Well deserved. I may have to bang out some ruins fast and easy and this is a perfect solution (since I have everything for it lol). I would love to see more scatter terrain projects. Your Idols, Swamp and Campsite terrain inspired me and I would love to see another take on that.
The layering makes such an awesome, realistic look for the walls!!! And I’m sure that technique would work great for EVA as well, even though it’d definitely be way pricier than the foamcore.
You are a heavens sent!I am hostin a 10 person WH40k tournament and was dreading the proses to make terrain. this is something I can do in one weekend for the all 5 tables.I already have rolling pins also!
Yes! You certainly can. If, however, it becomes too big to support itself, you may have to brace it with a wooden frame; Use a variety pack of square wooden dowels (available from the craft aisle at Dollarama or whatever your local equivalent is) rather than balsa -- the dowels are stronger and more durable, and the variety pack has several different sizes that will serve different purposes.
As someone who hasn't crafted much yet these seem like a fantastic alternative for 3D printing all your terrain, especially for something simple like ruins or walls. Custom miniature makers has some fantastic 3D printable texture rollers as well.
Having modular ruined walls is a must for any war game. These look like they could easily fit into fantasy, modern, or grim dark future. I also liked that you used scrap foam board from painting projects.
Absolutely top notch video as always! Wanted to add one little tip - if you want/need bases to show the exact area of the terrain for wargaming (common for 40k), do NOT use foamcore. Its fantastic for stuff like these walls in the video, but especially in a club context foamcore used as a base will fall apart, get dented, fray, and look terrible really fast and its very likely to warp. Use Expanded PVC foam sheets. You can order these online, or buy from sign shops or if you are lucky enough to have a plastic supplier use that. Sometimes sign shops have them for cheap or free in a scrap bin in sizes too small for signs but great for hobby. The material is stiff and durable, but not too hard to cut at roughly the same thickness of foamcore. It is also extremely warp resistant. Its more expensive than foamcore, sure, but so so worth it. The material also opens up a lot of useful functionality - its got a sturdy enough integrity that you can pin into it or bevel the edges for example. Its basically a strictly better version of MDF or particle board type materials when used in this context. Its also pretty much exactly the right weight - just heavy enough to be substantial, but lighter than most wood based materials and a lot lighter than stuff like acrylic or plexi where the weight can actually be quite problematic.
Might have to make a few of these.... While watching, was thinking that you could use a piece of 1 1/2" to 2" wide foam in between two of these sheets to have a walkway. If you had a watch tower or something too, you could make a 90 degree corner piece to sit around the watch tower. Great video!
I'm just about to make some thin foam boards to use as battle map surfaces inside a carrying case. Some caulking would really help make them tougher and allow me to texture them without adding much bulk. Thanks for the idea!
Finally got to try this and the caulk was an absolute nightmare. Sticks to everything, really difficult to work with, wetting it too much helps with the sticking a little but causes the details to melt away. I tried letting it dry first before rolling, did some experiments both inside and in a cold garage letting test pieces dry in 15 minute intervals, and found it works best after letting dry 45min inside (at least in my climate). But in the end I still got a ton of sticking and ruined a lot of material. This was a total mess and not worth the work. Switched to air dry clay with a cooling rack to prevent cracks and got *way* better results *way* faster. Thanks for the interesting idea though!
I feel like for years you were known for black magic base coat or your tile terrain but recently you have been coming out with insane game changing projects on that level one after the other. Completely changing how I will craft.
Hell ya! I’ve got some hobby board terrain ruins I’ve assembled, but been unsure how to give them character - the caulk & rolling texture is absolutely brilliant and def the move for me now. Great stuff man! Huge fan of into the AM too
Being cheap, i'd sugest 3 and 5 inch (2.5 x2 ) strips and cut the 5 inch wavey to get 2 pieces at a time. Buy that's just me. Otherwise cool easy project (the non water soluble caulking just needs vinegar in the water instead of soap - it's on the back. This is for more the true silicone ones for tubs etc.)
Okay. With the texture roller, could you spread caulking on somthing like parchment paper and roll it then let it dry to make some pliable and easy to cut rolls
Somethings I would suggest if yer the rules lawyer type. 4 inches seems to be the sweet spot on terrain that most games use for stuff that forces you to go around or need special rules to go over, so thats a pretty easy adjustment. Also, im thinking instead of going foamcore all the way, maybe sandwitch insulation or styrofoam? If i can find any of my rollers I might be giving this a try
About an hour ago I was checking out how Foreign Legion forts were constructed. I was thinking of building one to use with my 1/72 minis. Now I have to decide whether to go with my Proxon or rolling pins!
40K 10th really benefits from terrain pieces having clear and concrete foundations/area templates. You could easily combine this method with your rubber mat tutorials to have well-weighted, super durable 40K friendly pieces. (Also adding some ladders and firing steps to support second-floor firing.)
Absolutely loving your videos! You’ve really helped this noob gain some confidence. I’d love to see your take on a Stone Henge-type scene that would be occupied by evil Druid/cultists.
Love the caulk and roller method!! Would definitely watch and like more videos on other ways to build with caulking! How would you make a snowy effect? Like for frostgrave terrain
Quick, functional, and looks really good on the table. Nice! Wish we would have known about the caulking trick a couple of years ago. Would've saved a lot of time, lol. Now I gotta get one of those rollers 😁😁
as someone who's toddler is quickly pulling apart all his papercraft buildings, the idea of rugged/fast/cheap terrain speaks to me on a spiritual level
great video, jeremy!
I would put those away from the child. Their actions are not justifiable just because they're a toddler. Show him, who's the boss
pro tip buy your toddler a ton of wooden blocks. In 2 years you're going to have a bunch of wooden blocks to add to your terrain.
This is the rubber mat revolution!!!!

Loving the simplicity of your most recent builds! Super pumped for Idols and excited for you to have made it!
3 layers of foamcore is a neat idea. Normally I’d reach for a single sheet of insulating foam, but I found some old foamcore in the garage covered in dust and spider poop that can’t be used for much else, so this is a timely video.
These turned out really good.
Amazing! Easy, cheap, modular, durable - all of the things I love!
I love all this calk ideas. I never would of thought of using it. I can imagine just finding textured rough rocks on a walk and just mashing the rock into the calk
I said it before and I’ll say it again: You’re such a wholesome person!

These are the the videos I love. Simple, easy terrain that doesn't require special tools or 3d printer
On the spray paint note; if you do end up with some melted areas because of overspraying, that's fine. It just lends more to the ruined look.
Wow, was a hobbiest 20 years ago and life sort of dragged me away. I'm hopping back, saw this .... wow. GREAT STUFF! Thanks!
The off cuts as corner stabilising is one of the best bits!
You can even make windows in the walls...torn out doorways...even partial upper floors. Nice.
my gaming group made these last weekend - fast, easy and the look great! Gave us so many more ideas. Thanks Jeremy!
Glad to know 3-1/2 inches is good enough
Quicj easy and still looks good on the table, will definitely give this a try.
"I'm not dead, some of you are probably wondering if I was dead but I'm not

This hit me on a spiritual level
As someone who just got into making terrain these videos are a great resource. Love it!
Love the vid!
Any tips or ideas for making large snow drifts? I'm a big fan of making artic terrain.
It is nice to see caulk be used as a short cut in crafting terrain. Carving the brick work by hand can be daunting. Cool build!
This caulking trick is really something! So versatile. Adds texture and seals at the same time. Big fan
Simple. Works. And a great base to build off. You can never have enough ruins!
What a fantastic method, I cannot wait to try this and get some terrain created for our games we run at our gamestore. Thank you!
Welcome back! Hope the family trip to Germany was a lot of fun, and it recharged your batteries.
Glad you were able to take some time off, but so great to have you, your super builds and energy back on YT!
8:35 "don't let your kids eat your terrain"
Solid advice
Bro, I love the lackadaisical attitude! I can so relate to a former Carpenter doing this genre of art. You’re the man! -Rick, USMC.
Great for making some quick ruins for Frostgrave.

Great VDO! I am going to make that terrain to be the border of a post apoc themed slot car track!
Back to the roots! Great vid. Makes me want to get back into making terrain.
Looks great! Regarding rolling pins, don't forget that if you have an FDM printer you can print a roller pretty easily! That's what I did!
Another fun project! And the silicon will be much easier on my teeth when I eat terrain! Congrats on the Idols of Torment progress!
These are great. This will definitely be a weekend project with the kids in the future
it's always a good day when a new BMC (black magic caulking) video comes out!
Simply great. I'll have to make some.
Oh I am definitely going to make these to fill in my wargaming terrain!
Welcome back. Such a simple idea yet it is an evolution to the whole caulking concept.
The layering makes such an awesome, realistic look for the walls!!! And I’m sure that technique would work great for EVA as well, even though it’d definitely be way pricier than the foamcore.

Could you do a full ruin castle in the foamcore and caulking? Maybe using a wire brush for a drawbridge! This video has my gears turning 😆
Yes! You certainly can. Welcome back. And now to worry I began rewatching some of your older builds
Good to see your face brother ! Glad to see everything is moving along and in production ! Cheers dude !
Envy you for the trip to Germany!
Get any new build ideas from all the castles and old buildings etc?.
Such a fab way of making terrain. Thank you for being inspiring:)
Next video tutorial should be about edible terrain, maybe some ruins made from gingerbread?
I know you're busy, but I just thought you should know there will always be subs! Thanks for the content! Appreciated so much my man.
Thank you for the Video, I need some Ruins for my 54mm Klingons and Jem'Hadar to fight over 😊
Having modular ruined walls is a must for any war game. These look like they could easily fit into fantasy, modern, or grim dark future.
I also liked that you used scrap foam board from painting projects.
I'm 100% doing this. Thank you!
These look great and also look quite fun to make. Thanks!
These look amazing. You truly are a hobby genius. Thanks for sharing!!!
Good video. A throwback to your early days!
Greetings from Germany. I hope you had a nice vacation here.
This is unreal as always my man. Straight knowledge drop
ABSOLUTELY A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!

Loved this project as always you never disappoint best to your family.
I hope you and your family enjoyed Germany very much!
Love this build!!! Glad to have you back making videos. I have literally watched all of your video’s several time over. Keep up the great work.
Looking forward to the next bimonthly video.
I'm just about to make some thin foam boards to use as battle map surfaces inside a carrying case. Some caulking would really help make them tougher and allow me to texture them without adding much bulk. Thanks for the idea!
love it! happy to have you back!
Awesome to see you, Jeremy. Was getting worried. Anyway, nice.
BMC must have sensed I was hankering for a video, cuz it can't be a coincidence that this was uploaded after so very long just a couple hours ago. 😊
Hope you enjoy your vacation.
Greetings from Germany. 😉
I would add a shelf in some of the corners giving elevation for the Goblins to attack from.
Thanks! Great idea! I've not seen rollers used in this way and looking forward to giving it a try.

This isn’t even my final form
I'll give this build a try on cardboard!
sweet builds for any table top gaming

Damn. I'm making this. Soo easy and soo quick. Thanks !
I love this build because I can´t get XPS on my country so everything I craft is made of foam core and I can vouch for the durability of it!!
Looks perfect for after school Dungeons and Dragons programs too!

Nice I'm thinking church/castle ruins maybe going taller on some pieces. Excellent
Good to see you again!

Jeremy's not dead? That's great news; though it does mean I've lost the Deadpool.
This is such a cool project.

Yessss I just got into 40k and I've followed you for your DND builds ages ago. Love to see more terrain!
Hope you enjoyed your time off! It's always important to relax and regroup. Thanks for the great videos!
Very nice. That is a really nice project
Love the caulk and roller method!! Would definitely watch and like more videos on other ways to build with caulking! How would you make a snowy effect? Like for frostgrave terrain
Absolutely going to make some of these this week for Frostgrave
Looks great! I wonder if something similar could be done with cut up strips of yoga mat?
Quick, functional, and looks really good on the table. Nice! Wish we would have known about the caulking trick a couple of years ago. Would've saved a lot of time, lol. Now I gotta get one of those rollers 😁😁
Again the simplicity with great effect combo!
