The mismatched brick sizes with planks and graffitis really bring out a whimsical and shoddy look that fits your channel, I love it! Also the octopus mug peering through the walls is amazingly ominous.
I've watched this video about 7 times now. I've just started my foam brick metamorphosis but alas I think without a proxon I will never achieve such transcendence..! Truly awesome how much effort you put into these.
"Ruins... have come to our family..." - Ancestor Each of your videos is really a perfect composed thing. Sound, video, speech. I cannot repeat it enough. Good work!
If You took the static grass tuffs of your old Ruins you could touch up the painted job, add the spackle and match them in with your new ones with minimal effort.
might do it with 1.5 mm gray cardboard instead of generic cardstock for sturdiness. also there's no xps foam in my country so i will be stuck cutting foamcore bricks for a while but i will try these
Nice work. If a part of the terrain seems a bit too prone to falling over, consider gluing a pile of loose bricks around the base of it. The faux rubble will provide more contact points, while also adding to the impression that it's a ruin that is actively falling apart. Plus, it's more playable space to work with.
This looks really awsome and motivates me to start working on some Frostgrave terrain now too after my Mordheim builds. They are quiet different from atmosphere.
None of my builds include grout for the stones... I kind of thought it looked nice and I could say the buildings are so old that the grout has worn down to where you can't see it. Now I want to do grout. Thanks for sharing your techniques!
That turned out fantastic! The different sized bricks was a really good idea - made it feel more realistic both with the planned layout and the more random variations. Also, this is a little thing, but the splotching on the wood turned out quite nicely - and I reckon I'll be adapting that to some other materials. It's a nice variation. That said, as great as these turned out, the originals will always hold a special place for me. Something about them oozes "difficult to explore overgrown ruins" which, apparently, is my vibe.
I love this. I’m going to try to see if the grout mix will allow for some darker paint to mixed in it. Just to mute it out a bit. I was hyped to see content pop up on my feed this morning.
I mean, if you wanna get spicy with it. You could also put a bunch of ancient graffiti on the ruins. Lots of ancient ruins have graffiti, most of it vulgar in the extreme! ;)
just saw this last night. im going to add it to my list of things to build for my test play set up for my game im developing, this is great!!! Awesome vid and tutorial!!
Really like the look of those. The extra height is great and the graffiti is a nice touch I wouldn't have thought of. Do you think there's a step in there to add a wash? The mortar just looks a bit too bright to me and I think a wash would tint it down some.
Glad you enjoy the build Todd! And the spackle maybe could use a light tint of color, but I have yet to find the perfect paint to spackle mixture. Definitely something to experiment with! I know just about every other terrain builder loves a good wash, but I've found it really mutes down the finished paint job, even with some quicks highlights after. Just my two cents.
Great video, very good balance on sound, I could always understand you over muzak! Did you sand down to prime colour or add more colour after Spackle? Thanks!
Thank you! Did no sanding, just wiped away any excess spackle quickly before it had time to dry. After, I airbrushed on some washes to add some more color.
these look great ^^ my biggest issue with ruins especially 40k is how boring they look and how lazy they look. these also are just more than corners and it looks you can make a fun building with it as i miss that in tabletop games is some good cqb fighting in destroyed ruins/ buildings ^^ making these without a foam cutter seems like a pain tough but def bookmarking this vid once i actually get my warcry terrain finished xD
SpooKimi! I agree 100% with everything you said. Glad you enjoyed the build, and this is definitely not a "beginner" build. Some extra equipment is a must.
OHOHOHO SPICY COMMENTS!? YOU WANT SPICY COMMENTS!!?? Well, you know I'll always oblige matey :D this was a joy to watch, have been saving it for a rainy day so I can enjoy uninterrupted, and man was that worth it. I built a bunch of ruins after your first vid, and gosh darn it, guess I'll have to go make a second batch now too! Cheers Donny, love your content and you as always dude!
I tried printing the templates, but they got mashed together on the print page instead of being spread out like they are supposed to be, anyone have a fix for that?
LOVE YOUR VIDS MAN! "SPICEY SPICE Spice spice." YA know? Learned how to play watching your content. And personally love Thoosdo-dalla (or how ever the hell ya spell that!)
I have a nice little closest underneath my basement stairs which is great for terrain. Though, I will need to go through it soon... It is starting to fill up.

"Whimsical and shoddy look..." I LOVE IT! And thanks Keggers, really liking that Kraken mug. It keeps my drinks warm!
OMG! So many years in this crafting journey and this ruins are so cool! So perfect... Congratulations!
Marcos! Thanks again my friend! 🤓

I know I just *WATCHED* the whole thing, but how the hell did you make this so epic?
A little bit of luck I am sure. 🧙♂️

Love the Darkest Dungeon reference! 🤓😬

A genius idea! 🧙♂️ Thank you!

Damn, too bad about the XPS. And not a bad idea!
Nice work.

They both have ruins! So that is a plus. And have fun with the terrain!
Good stuff mate! Really shows how simple terrain making can be if you think it through!
100%! Look at a bunch of historic reference photos and come up with a plan!
Brick by brick!!!!!!! You are a better man than me!!!!!!!!!
It was a long haul! 🤓

No problem! I will say, the first time I tried out spackle, I didn't like it right away. Though I warmed up to it. Have fun creating!
Brilliant thanks. Keep it up, I really appreciate it
This is equal parts madness and genius. Well done Maestro!
Hahahaha! I'll say it leans a bit more towards MADNESS!

Ahhhh, I see what you mean about the old ruins! An awesome visual! Don't worry, these will still get plenty of use.
I love this. I’m going to try to see if the grout mix will allow for some darker paint to mixed in it. Just to mute it out a bit. I was hyped to see content pop up on my feed this morning.
That isn't a bad idea at all! I've toyed with that idea off screen. I'd say less color is best!
Your videos are always as wonderful as you are very skilled in the craft. Thank you
LOOKS. FANTASTIC.
Thank you very much!
Excellent looking addition to the frozen city.
Muhahahahha! Looking forward to using these on the tabletop!
I can't wait to see those ruins in the campaign 3
Me tooooo! 😅 Still might be a minute before that happens though...
I mean, if you wanna get spicy with it. You could also put a bunch of ancient graffiti on the ruins. Lots of ancient ruins have graffiti, most of it vulgar in the extreme! ;)
Great result with the teal on the wood before contrast paint
Thanks a bunch Kim! Sometimes a good idea comes along!
Thank you for the feature you mad lad!!
Anytime 😉

Thanks ZombieApocalypse! Hope they work out for you!
@@DiceChatter ill for sure let you know!!
Looks DOPE dude
Thanks Baron! Appreciate it!
Damn dude, those look awesome. Your hard work absolutely paid off. Good stuff!
Thanks Ryan! Glad you enjoyed the build!
Hey! Thank you for the cutouts and great content, as always. 🎉
My pleasure Triplet T! Happy to help!

Builds like this are the reason 3D printing exists 😂 I admire your dedication my man, great job as always 👍
Dude!! That's hardcore, those took some effort and the results are outstanding!!
SPBurt! Thanks buddy, they were definitely a big project!
really nice work! I hadn't seen anyone use spackle like that before. Solid content. Thanks!
Glad you liked it! 😁
Looks great as usual!
Thank you! Cheers! 🤓
Amazing video !
Love your builds and performance as always❤
Thanks you very much!!! 🤓
Killed it once again.
David! Thanks buddy!
Looks like you're a real block head. Which is why this turned out so well. I want to make these but hot dog that's a lot of time...
Hot diggity dog! And thanks!
Very nicely done.
These are some great looking ruins. Well done!
Many thanks! 😁
Great stuff as always sir!
Anytime buddy!

These look awesome!
Glad you like them!
Love the paint job! Nicely done 😊😊😊
Thanks so much 😊
@@DiceChatter you are welcome 🤗
Last set after you do a set in the blue surely ;) these are beautiful. you should be rightfully proud
Hahahha of course! And thank a bunch, glad the build went well 😄
Part foam, part Donny. You shall now be known as Foamy.
Oh no... I should switch over to a different material...
I think if I were to try this i would tint the spackle a bit to make it darker.
Not a bad idea! I have toyed with this thought in the past, always difficult to find the perfect mix of spackle and ink/paint...

Hahaha! Robbie! Thanks for the comment buddy. And I’m sorry I have given you more ruins to build… 😅
Loving your work!
Much appreciated edchopp!
These look great. Did you water down the spackle? It looks like it spread very easily.
A wee bit here and there. I bought some cheap spackle, which might also help out the spreading as well!
I would love to play on these!
We are talking about miniatures games still, right?!?
@@DiceChatter could try drumming on them as well ;P
Thanks DC.
Of course! 😜
These are very good.
Thanks Sage!!!
I tried printing the templates, but they got mashed together on the print page instead of being spread out like they are supposed to be, anyone have a fix for that?
You have a ton of patience
Oh, I was on the struggle bus a couple times during the build...

Hahahaha! Best pronunciation I have ever seen!
How do you store your terrain so it doesn't get runied by children and pets? Or just visitors wanting to handle it and getting a little too careless?
I have a nice little closest underneath my basement stairs which is great for terrain. Though, I will need to go through it soon... It is starting to fill up.
Any chance you'd put some of the items up for Ebay/Etsy? 🙏@@DiceChatter
needs about 100% more black pepper #spicy
Haha! You’re not wrong!
Subbed so I can see him make more ruins later... :P
Hahahaha Thanks a bunch!
You prefer no bases?
Generally, yes. It allows me to place these ruins really on any table, though at the sacrifice of some stability.
How long did this take?
Can be a bit hard to gauge, but I'd say around 2-3 days.
@@DiceChatter Thanks!
good.
nice ruins, a little bit to light for my taste but they are fine
(i hope this won't be the last ;)
We shall see!!! Definitely not my last build though. Have tons of thoughts and ideas.
