So THAT’S how you make music fit your video. I always wondered about that. I’m just getting into video editing in a meaningful way, and I chose to go with FCP. I will be referencing your channel often. Thanks for a terrific video!
Thank you so much for this Dylan!! I watched this far 2 years too late!!! you have saved me so much time and effort manually adjusting my audio!!! I have saved this video to one of my personal must keep play lists for easy access and quick referral. You are becoming one of my favourite FCPX tutors.
Thank you for sharing this video. I see that you can add 1 important skill, I always use this in my productions. If you cut the audio, place the audio in a group. You can then, as you do now, make the cuts and lay them synchronously. The main advantage is that it remains 1 whole. The disadvantage of the method that you now show is that the audio shifts if you paste a scene in between, for example. You now prevent this by making a compound clip, but that is actually very inconvenient if you want to make adjustments later. Do you understand what I mean. If you want I can send you an example video of how it works.
@@TheFinalCutBro Hey man, my new video is up now! Head over to my channel to check it out!! Used your tutorial to create the intro music and extend the other tracks! ✌🏼
Great detailed tutorial Dylan 🙌🏼 Something I need to start doing more is creating compound clips with my audio clips. I also had no idea about that 'voice/music' effect. I've been manually changing my music levels with Channel EQ while editing. This will save me quite a bit of time. Thanks man!
Thanks other Dylan! The channel EQ filter definitely gives you a lot more control, but the voice music effect saves me so much time, when I just wanna get it done quick and dirty. Appreciate the support my dude!
Hi Dylan, I really enjoy your tutorials, and appreciate them. I have a question that you may know the answer to. Say you are working on one video and you have edited some clips, or footage. But then you start a new, different video. How can I take or copy some of the edited clips from the first video and use them in the second, so not to have to edit them again? Thanks)))
Hey Robert! Appreciate that so much. You should be able to just select the clips in your original timeline, and press CMD C to copy. Then go to the new timeline and press CMD V. You can also push Option V instead to paste it above the magnetic timeline if that’s what you’re after. If that’s not working, it might be worth restarting FCP!
The abrupt ducking and unducking of the music under the voice is very distracting, and I promise you would never hear such a thing in a professional production. (I'm an audio guy, and I know.) The EQ carving helps, for sure. (The human voice goes a bit higher than you described, though. And female voices go even higher still.) The part you're leaving out is the need to add some compression to the voice track. Not so much that it would sound squashed, mind you. But if the voice track is compressed enough -- and you roll off enough bottom end (below about 400 Hz) so that the voice cuts through the music -- you won't have to do so much ducking. Ideally, you don't want the fading out and fading in of the music to be noticeable at all. In this example, it's VERY noticeable, and hence, distracting. Otherwise, this is a pretty useful tutorial for most folks, and you shouldn't be apologizing for its length. If the information is good, people will be more than willing to sit through it.

Thanks so much for the good info! I'd never considered EQ carving as a way to bring extra clarity to voiceover.
Great tutorial Dylan. I learnt something new. Thank you, you now have a new subscriber 😀👍

Thank you for making this. Very much appreciated!! Sub’d & liked!
Appreciate that so much! 👊
I’d love to learn about color matching videos that don’t look similar, to make them more cohesive together.

Another idea : how to make an effect that only interacts with a set parameter, such as Brightness, or a selected color in the video.
