I actually didn’t know about stop cast to equip the shield macro. There have been times I get confused why I’m not equipping the shield and it’s because I was casting heroic strike lol great video like always
I fury prot tanked classic for 2-3 years and this video explains basically everything. I'm so glad I can just send people this video now instead of spending an hour answering the question " How do I fury prot tank?"
@ no worries it’s easier than you would think, all you need to do is type the time you want to link. You can put it in a comment or in description and it puts the timestamp in place of your _:__ Great video, your guides helped me lots. you’re a chad bro 💪 keep up the content love to see it
Great content, Dwarf. If possible, can you put timestamps / segment labels into the video? A video like this should really have that. For example, part 1 would be threat generation, part 2 would be taunt vs. fixate, part 3 would be glancing blow, etc. Again, nice work with this.
In the section of thunderfury, i feel like it would be worth mentioning the total threat and the proc rate (and a normalized value per swing) and also which abilities can/can't proc it. TF makes sunder vs battle shout a lot more muddy.
While that 110/130% thresholds in general are true for taking aggro, some mechanics are bound to the actual threat value not who's tanking the boss. I.e. if you're doing the Heigan dance, the game will protect the one with the highest threat value from being ported. I managed to get the MT being teleported by overtaking him the exact second the teleport took place and here unfortunately our tank then got teleported and wiped from the aggro table.
Thank you very much!! I just picked up tanking for the first time and feel lucky to have access to such a detailed guide! I can't wait for the UI video. My UI is so messy that I spend too much time looking at my abilities than the actual fight. And I end up clicking on half the stuff. Also, I hope you one day release a detailed video about choice of weapons for Fury Prot, like pre-naxx and non-thunderfury users. For example, when I tank, do always use 2 fast weapons? Or do I need a slow offhand? Or do I start with 2 fast weapons and switch mid-fight?
I dont have any good trinket from raids yet, but I've been using Mark of the Chosen a lot. It's procs fairly often and it buff you with +25 in all stats for 1 min (25 str, agi, sta !) You can proc it on trash and replace it with another trinket before boss without losing its effect, which is pretty nuts.
very nice guide. Do you think now at Fresh anniversary realm, with opening of dire maul, it makes sense to play fury prot? I read opinions/video where they say its not really a dungeon tanking build, but I play only dungeons now and as a warrior prefer to tank them - but prot is terrible with shield. Is fury prot OK to tank strath dm scholo ubrs with fresh character? or better to go fully prot? Ofc I wear shield when I tank bosses and I feel im dying, even now when im still just fury build
And How about pre raid bis for such tank? I am almost 60 at anniversary now and wanna fury prot tank, what are the recommendations? Many guides I find is having items that are not available at the game yet.
Its a nice guide for raid tanking with high gear but not too much info on how to dungeon tank with low gear, rotations for different situations and stuff
BT revenge are big threat, I think the threat generation section gives an idea on prio. if world buffed and tons of rage its spam HS, BT on CD, revenge on procs, sunder to fill GCD or battle shout
I'm just curious you said you use THC in main and thunder fury in the offhand, I found if I do that my procs are a lot infrequent, but I've only recently started playing classic era since I snapshotted my warrior before tbc so would be keen to learn more, I understand THC is a base higher dps weapon and faster but I just thought the additional TF procs would be better for threat. There's so much about wow classic era I do not know so happy to learn. Great video by the way!
I reccomend against furyprot to start off with. Fury has amazing scaling, but that also means that if you don't have gear (or wbuffs), your threat will be no better than that of a deep prot tank, while also missing all of the utility that tactical mastery enables (instant intercept/mocking blow). In dungeon gear, Shield slam does more threat than your offhand, flurry, and bloodthirst combined, and the shield allows more aggressive gearing elsewhere. Once you have something equivalent to the ZG set shown in the video, you should probably swap to furyprot though, in all but the most casual of dad guilds. That's gonna be hard to do fast in P1 though.
Great video man. I just found your channel today, and plan to watch your other videos. I agree on Shield Wall as an oh shit button. I typically use a Healthstone macro plus shield block as the 1st OSB, then Last Stand as 2nd OSB, and if those are all down, then I'll Shield Wall, but I usually try to save it for fights like Patch/Saph/KT (especially KT). Block sucks (agreed)! Block is only really good when you're using Shield Block as an OSB so you don't eat a crit or crush while waiting on a heal. I actually have been speccing out of Improved SB due to this, and picking up Anticipation instead. Extra Defense sucks too, but it lets you reach Defense cap while dual wielding on certain fights where threat isn't much of an issue (Patch/Thaddius). Why do you not use Buff Cap Tracker to remove buffs instead of macros? I have a video on how to set it up and use it, and wrote a Weak Aura that will change profiles based on the presence of world buffs. Has been working great for me and I don't run into the macro limit. I've never been a huge fan of the 2pc T3 setup. The bonus damage really isn't a lot of threat, so I'm either in a Threat set of gear or 4pc T3 set, and then change my "off" pieces to balance out threat stats vs. mitigation. Even my full mit set uses several threat pieces like Mentors, Steadies, etc. I never wear full T3.
ya I just never spent much time optimising BCT, like I have the addon but I dont use it lol. on an unrelated note last night in a raid the tank had full buffs and ppl kept pushing off his mongoose and stuff on purpose. waterbreathing, all sort of random useless buffs haha But I definitely should look into BCT optimasation. last time I opened the addon it was clunky and not very straight forward. Ill check you video on it as for 2pc t3 it definitely is not going to make or break your threat or mit.. but some times I will use chest+bracer if im putting steadfast+royal qiraji on for a tiny bit of extra mit while keeping 2.5 helm on and COAF
good question, if no one has thuderfury you might on some bosses have a dps warrior keep thunderclap up, or an offtank. but never the main tank. but usually you wouldnt bother
About to hit 60 on anniversary realms. Would you recommend a shield slam spec for a fresh 60 doing stuff like UBRS Scholo Strat or should i just go straight for fury prot
I think that fury prot is not great in dungeons, its ok. Arms/prot would be great for stance dance and sweeping strikes still as an option. or straight fury for stance dance. fury prot is a raid spec
tough for new player.... there is so much to know! a veteran of wow could tank no problem. but someone still learning movement and keybinds and boss fights could be rough
Dident they remove the buff/debuff cap ? I belive i heard you could play affliction as a warlock and acculy be able to use you’r dots now. But they still suck xD
It is mentioned when he mentions its not on the GCD its not drone over thank goodness! It’s unbelievable simple and whenever getting hit hard in raids, the rage is essentially irrelevant! I think this is a guide for people already max level, this heroic strike realization is obvious to most by lvl 25 and you fan adjust playstyle accordingly
@dwarflord we good bud I've raided all the raids as main tank for TL n home depot on HC easy. Just giving you advice man make it easier to understand an watch and you'll get more views an subs if you don't want to then don't I don't care either way

I watched a youtube video on how to do this, and a helpful viewer above made the timestamps for me
“Always blame the healer of you can…or the hunter.”

I really like binding numbers on numpad to different sets, directly in Itemrack. It's a bit out of the way, but gear switches are rarely that urgent.
I started using opie addon for itemrck

good idea!
for such a detailed and long video it would be nice to have timestamps

awesome, its great to know how to tank.. though the responsibility can be off putting
Is that value for revenge correct? I remember somebody saying it was some lower value, but 2,25x the damage (pluss stance modifier on top)
