I love this tune and not only was John Renbourn a brilliant musician and composer he was a great human being with an overabundance of story to keep you entertained over too many pints! Clive you perform this beautifully.
Thanks Clive for your own beautiful music, and for playing this wonderful John Renbourn piece. He was and you are among the most lyrical guitarists in any genre.
Perfect setting to play this beautiful guitar piece. John's music is eternal and this would not have been out of place at the court of Elizabeth I. It must be wonderful to create music which will live on through the centuries. Your playing as always Clive is masterful and I don't think anyone else could have played it better. Thanks.
I saw Clive over 10 years ago at Bath Guitar Festival and have been wowed ever since. An absolute master! Great setting here and great playing, as ever!
Merci merci beaucoup Clive, votre talent est très profond et très touchant. Vous jouez du Renbourn comme à ma connaissance personne ne sait le faire. MERCI Philippe Armansin (petit compositeur)
Hi Clive, Absolutely beautiful. The pace and the sound of your interpretation really bring this masterpiece on the ancient music side. You make John’s guitar almost sounding like a lute! I wish so much that you would record an anthology of john’s music!! Keep posting videos, as we have already The Hermit and now the Unicorn… Brilliant as always. You keep john alive for the joy of plenty ! Thank you so much !!
@@CliveCarrollMusic This is fantastic news!! I can't wait to listening to this double album! If there is pre-funding, I am part of it right away!! John is terribly missed and you contribute to the rebirth of his music in a pure delightful way. Thanks again and long and happy life to you. Peace,
For anyone interested in learning from JR's own tab, Clive's performance is so well articulated and defined it can only be recommended. If I ever learn to play properly, this would define properly.
Clive I may be mistaken thinking all John's pieces can be found in tab - my guitar sheet music was mostly bought in the 1990s and John provided tab & score format for Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop series. I don't have the Oak publication which includes The Lady and The Unicorn - and in my Mel Bay book the third of book by John including The Hermit (again, Stefan's editing) doesn't include it either but all the JR pieces are tab. I do not play this and probably wouldn't try but there were all those acoustic guitar mags which published tab in the 1990s and wonder if I have seen it.
That is fabulous. I have always thought that those tunes were better played slower to fully reveal the harmonic beauty of the composition. I have the feeling that your performance is a heart felt tribute to the composer.
Absolutely beautiful! Hadn't heard this piece before either, so thanks for that! Great video too, serious vibes to compliment the music. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic version, such a great and delicate articulation ! It seems that the guitar is tuned a semi-tone below standard tuning. Sounds great but I wonder why you choose to play that way (sorry for my english).
Clive, how often do you change strings? I once heard Tommy Emmanuel say that he changes them before every show... which seems a little extreme.. but curious about your approach?
Hi G D. For gigs on my OM Bown over the years I also changed them for every show. You need that fresh feel for the calibration. On my recent UK tour I took out 3 guitars - OM, baritone, and nylon. I changed the OM every 3-ish gigs and didn't change the baritone or nylon at all. The older the strings on the baritone especially, the better the sound!
John was always the master of "touch and taste", but you have taken it just that little bit further. Well done Clive.
Calling all unicorns...blue Bells beautiful
This is the most wonderful of guitar peices ever, thanks for sharing

Well said. I think John's lyricism matches the best guitarists in genres like classical and jazz.
Beautiful `blue notes´ between the bluebells. I am longing fot the english countryside-feeling.
Thanks Clive for your own beautiful music, and for playing this wonderful John Renbourn piece. He was and you are among the most lyrical guitarists in any genre.

Wonderful.Thank you.
Amazing
Gorgeous
It's great that you are keeping Renbourns music and memory alive. Those pieces of music are difficult to play and you did a splendid job.
Merci merci beaucoup Clive, votre talent est très profond et très touchant. Vous jouez du Renbourn comme à ma connaissance personne ne sait le faire.

Wow! That was so moving! I still hear the afterglow. ❤️ A beautiful setting again. Thanks Maestro!
Thanks Bernd!
Beautifully played....Lovely video....
Clive you would of been in great demand as a traveling player in renaissance times I’m sure.
This sounds very bach inspired I think. Sublime.
Great, Clive

Thanks David. Which book would you recommend? I used the Oak publication but it's staff notation only. All the best, Clive

Yes, I quite like it a tad slower. It's a great piece and I have a few more on the way...
Fantastico! 👏👏👏

Hey Clive. Brilliant as always. Hope to see you on this side soon. Our friend Paul has moved south. Miss you both.
Heumiller?
Absolutely beautiful! Hadn't heard this piece before either, so thanks for that! Great video too, serious vibes to compliment the music. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Scott. I'm currently recording 3 pieces of JR's in this writing style. Check out Pavane d'Aragon and Lady Goes to Church. It's good stuff!
Oh Brother, that is so beautiful. The song, your playing, the location and filming. Top! I love it!
Thanks man. We just got the take in before the tractors started up in the next field!
Genius, who wrote it and who is playing it so beautiful 🙏🏻😍
Wonderful playing, a great rendition of John’s music, to tell the truth I prefere your playing, a little bit slower and meditative.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Stefano. Yeah, the writing is so good I felt I needed to give it a little more time so it could speak.
Fantastic version, such a great and delicate articulation !

Sounds great but I wonder why you choose to play that way (sorry for my english).
Thanks @Phil David. This guitar really sings when tuned a half step down. Clive
@@CliveCarrollMusic Thanks, Clive.
In a bluebell wood, even…

That looks very Tilty!....?
I know what you mean! It was filmed near Sudbourne, Suffolk tho. Serious bluebell territory around here...
